       + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Report from the Tourney #2 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ +

Larkin here once again, with more interviews from the tourney. This time I'm
talking to a new manager, so new he doesn't even have a manager name. "Sir... what
would you like me to call you, by the way?"
"Why do you have to call me anything? I don't understand why you want to
interview me. There are lots of great managers here who could probably tell you
stuff--"
"I'm looking for a new perspective, the point of view of someone who is just
starting out with the gladiatorial games."
"Oh. Well, I guess that would be me."
"Absolutely right! Tell me, what do you think of the tourney? This is your
first, right?"
"Right, my first," the young man agreed. "And it's GREAT! Everyone is just
great here! I mean, most of these managers, they're, like, legends, you know?
Everybody's heard of them, and they have stables of HUNDREDS of gladiators, and
they've been polishing their tricks for YEARS, and I didn't figure I had much of a
chance, you know?"
"The popular view is that no matter how much you know, the arena can always
throw a surprise at you--"
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard that. I don't know if I believe it, but I've heard it.
But that isn't the best thing about this tourney. The best thing is that everyone
here has been GREAT. Or else I didn't meet them--the ones that might not have been.
But I think I met just about everyone, and--"
"And they were great. I'm glad. But perhaps you could tell our readers a
little more, maybe tell them how these experienced managers were great to you?"
"Well, yeah, okay. It's that everyone was so friendly and helpful, see? The
ENTIRE Consortium talked to me about warrior design, for instance. I learned a lot
there. And, well, there was Mannequin, and The Greek Guy, and I actually met
Manager, too! And they were all really helpful. Advice, you know, and charts, and
all that stuff that was so confusing. It was just the best experience! I'm going to
do it again, for sure!"

                                      SPY REPORT

Good day, in ROCANIS a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets poor.
So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. It seems the training can make the
difference, as INCONSISTENT FURY is pushed out of top team by MIDDLE WAY 20, who came
from 2nd with a 4-1-0 this turn. And let's see, ERBIN GOETZ fought CARTOGRAPHER and
gained 18 points and contributed to MIDDLE WAY 20's 4-1-0. CARTOGRAPHER has lost to
ERBIN GOETZ, falling 15 points, while helping make SEA DOGS a 2-3-0 turn. And all
eyes were on DEBRA FARIN this turn as she ascended to the throne of Duelmaster.
ROCANIS has a new victor! Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from
unimpeachable sources that The Grub & Rub Bar and Bistro uses trolls in their stew.
Talk about gristle!
Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.'
Inscrutable, but true. I also notice that the SEA DOGS stable was the most avoided
team this turn. Come on ROCANIS, what are you afraid of? And avoiding SEA DOGS more
than any other team we find INCONSISTENT FURY. ROCANIS, are we going to accept, or
respect this sort of thing? The most challenged warrior this turn was SEA DOGS'
warrior LOBSTER POT. More fighters challenged him than challenged the Duelmaster!
Tsk, tsk, tsk. BALZEC, does your manager know you're challenging down 23 points to
fight ABELINDA CHASE from MIDDLE WAY 20? It pains me to see warriors take advantage
of the system like this. BALZEC won victory over ABELINDA CHASE, as if it surprises
anyone. In a brave attempt, RYVAS VOLKMAURI from INCONSISTENT FURY challenged up 19
points to fight LOBSTER POT from the SEA DOGS stable. RYVAS VOLKMAURI perhaps got
his just desserts, seeing as he was defeated by LOBSTER POT and ended up with 17
recognition points. NICKOLI DRYBONE of INCONSISTENT FURY had better have a good
reason for challenging down 9 points in a challenge which he won. I thought NICKOLI
DRYBONE showed great skill and promise when he bested ANCHOR THROWER. All right, so
I slept through it! Big deal!
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies.
You know who you are; and it's considered rude.
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Always good to rest in ROCANIS, but never good to wear out my welcome.
Look for me in future turns. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--
Alarond the Scribe
