                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Rao of the Skull Squadron sat next to a large stack of wood, shaped into a square
several feet high, at the end of Spirit Ridge, where the Rocani people buried their
most honored dead. Watchers would light the bonfire in the event of an external
danger coming towards Rocanis. He watched Mytori Priest and Duelmaster of Rocanis
from some distance away kneeling at a grave.
Drinking from a half-empty wine skin, Rao scanned the empty landscape and sighed
heavily. He knew no Rirorni threat was coming from his older brother's army, unless
something happened to him in the arena.
He heard a slight jingle from behind. Something he had heard before, something
few others recalled, as death quickly followed its sound.
"Assassin? Surely my brother hasn't grown so tired of my little antics he'd seek
the end of my life," Rao asked without turning around.
A Rirorni woman stepped to his right. She had tan skin and long black hair tied
into a tight, single ponytail reaching the middle of her back. "Your latest venture
into the Alastarian Duelmaster's games does cause him great distress. However, today
Warlord Bannok only sends his greeting."
"Every time my older brother's name is mentioned aloud, you put me at risk,
assassin," Rao replied.
"It is not true that Bannok's little brother is renowned for his love of danger?"
"You risk my wrath if you call me 'little brother,'" Rao said.
"And you risk mine if you call me 'assassin.' It's Anusha: A'-new-sha.
Remember it," Anusha replied. She then took a few steps ahead of him to get a better
look at the Mytori Priest in the distance.
     "Is that him?" Anusha asked.
"Yes, the last of General Pol's men."
"He grieves the death of his friend on the arena sands; a harbinger."
"Why? The death of a harbinger of doom is a joyous occasion."
"I think he had feelings towards her."
"Ah, forbidden love. Wasted sentiment. I should just put him out of his
misery." Anusha took another step and her ankle bracelet made the same slight jingle
sound.
Rao looked down and saw the white-linked jewelry around her left ankle. "You
should get rid of that thing. It gives you away too easily."
"It reminds me of him," Anusha replied and from her tone, an end of the
discussion.
Rao looked her over in her simple, loose fitting clothes. "If you are going to
kill him, I'd suggest bringing your weapons next time," Rao said.
Anusha turned and grinned with a forced smile that disturbed him.
"My blades are not the only weapons at my disposal." She bent down and Rao
noticed her light shirt come partly open as she adjusted the tightness of her ankle
bracelet.
Anusha looked up and noticed him staring at her chest. He darted his eyes away.
She rose and drew close. Her sharpened nails lightly scratched either side of his
cheeks, as she curled her tongue and licked the tip of his nose. She whispered, "If I
had wanted, your torn groin would be in my hands, and I'd be watching you bleed out."
He didn't doubt it and took an unsettled step back.
"Why are you here? Bosh and Cosh are already here as my watch dogs."
"You realize you risk more than your own life playing gladiator," Anusha said.
     "Yes, yes I know."
"He will raze Rocanis to the ground in the event of your death."
"You mean my capture, if I'm found out?"
"Either way," Anusha waved in a dismissive gesture. "If necessary, he wants to
ensure I remove the Rocani leaders quickly prior to any assault. He doesn't want to
waste any soldier's lives removing the Rocani blight from the Rirorni plains."
"I've studied Rocanis' history. Five thousand Jhansenites soldiers couldn't take
Rocanis. Even General Pol leading ten thousand men, a portion of Great Khan Ze'Frax
Rirorni horde, did little to finish Rocanis. My brother might find this enemy more
resilient than he thinks," Rao said.
"Oh, on the contrary. Rocanis hasn't faced an enemy quite like this before."
"What enemy is that?" Rao asked.
     "One from within."

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Hail gladiators of Rocanis!

Where to begin? I might as well start off with the elephant in the room. My
bloodfeud with Locky is now over and One-Eye's and Harbinger's deaths have been
avenged. While I wasn't expecting his demise, I'm not surprised by it either as I was
seeking his death. Unfortunately, Ovechkin was a casualty I hadn't expected. It was
my error assuming my bloofeud would go through. For anyone else in Rocanis I meet on
the sands, I've changed my strategy back to normal and I'm not attempting to kill.

However, if their managers deemed them worthy, they would have a possibility of
winning the Halloween Tournament and granted life again. It would be amusing seeing
them bloodfeud their own death.

I actually expected my invite to the Isle of the Eye last turn for holding Duelmaster
for four turns, but who knows the will of the roll-up gods. If I had received my
invite, I would have gone to the Halloween Tournament to do Rocanis proud. However,
since I'm so close to my invite I didn't see a need to take the risk.

For likely my last turn as Duelmaster, I didn't make any challenges. While it would
seem obvious to challenge Sergeant 5, he didn't fight last turn and might be waiting
for me to leave. Besides, I believe I have a slight style advantage.

I'll bid you farewell as it's now time for the Duelmaster's feast at Mylar's, so I
will leave my fellow gladiators with some words of encouragement. Remember, each
defeat in the arena is only a delay on the long road to becoming the Duelmaster of the
city.

                                          Humbly,

                                          Mytori Priest of Skull Squadron
                                          Duelmaster of Rocanis
                                          Grimwood, manager

                                      SPY REPORT

Hail ROCANIS! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your
deeds. And let's see, ANUSHA fought MAGE'S APPRENTICE and gained 20 points and
contributed to SKULL SQUADRON's 5-0-0. SERGEANT 8 has lost to RAO, falling 5 points,
while helping make MEDAL OF HONOR A11 a 0-2-0 turn. The attempts to dethrone the
Duelmaster have failed, and MYTORI PRIEST remains ROCANIS' top warrior for another
turn. Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing
fighters do dishes at The Wanton Troll until they win. Maybe?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. I also notice that the MEDAL OF HONOR A11
stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on ROCANIS, what are you afraid of?
And avoiding MEDAL OF HONOR A11 more than any other team we find SKULL SQUADRON.
ROCANIS, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports fans,
take notice that SERGEANT 8 from MEDAL OF HONOR A11 was ROCANIS' most challenged
warrior this turn.
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. We'd like to remind certain teams
not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's considered
rude.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Well, I'm burning daylight here in ROCANIS and I've a long road
ahead of me. Happy Trails. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--
