                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Rao of Skull Squadron sat inside the Wanton Troll and looked up as he heard the
troll Beulah call out, "Welcome to the Wanton Troll!" The overzealous Beulah then
proceeded to shove in the latest round of customers inside and closed the door.
The bar was void of its usual customers, due to the celebration at Mylar's of the
Mytori Priest receiving his invite to the Isle of the Eye as a Lord Protector. The
barkeep stood behind the covered bar with mugs hanging overhead and cleaned one of the
glasses, each with a facial design of a troll.
At the end of the bar was a small, tapped keg. Larger, barrel sized kegs of ale
were stacked in one corner. Round wooden tables were scattered throughout the room. A
lone barmaid weaved throughout the room taking and delivering orders to the few
customers.
Rao then looked to the twins, Bosh and Cosh, sitting with him. They were lost in
their own drinks. Each had an arm in a sling. Bosh's left arm, while it was Cosh's
right. He then looked to his own knuckles heavily bandaged after beating his opponent
with his fist against their weapons and armor once his weapon broke. He was high
enough in the rankings where it's wise to now bring a back-up weapon. At least the
more refined Alastarian beverages were finally numbing the throbbing pain in his
hands.
"Shouldn't we be at Mylar's celebrating our stablemate's invite?" Bosh asked.
"Do either of you feel like celebrating that piece of bak-ta's good fortune?"
"No," the Rirorni twins answered in unison and returned to their beer.
Silence followed for several minutes when a commotion emanated from outside.
Everyone's head turned at the sound of a solid thud. Something heavy had hit the front
door, causing it to bulge slightly. As the patrons watched dust float down from the
doorframe, it opened. Rao saw the form of the oversized troll, Beulah on the ground.
A petite Rirorni woman hopped over the prone figure; it was their stablemate, Anusha.
Rao's eyes darted from Anusha to the downed Beulah and back to her.
Anusha also noticed everyone staring at her. She glanced behind her and acted
surprised at seeing the downed Beulah. She turned back and said, "The troll tripped."
A loud snoring sound then emanated from Beulah, as Anusha forced the door closed
against the weight of the creature's body.
Anusha stepped with purpose over to their table. Rao noticed she sat carefully.
Oddly, only her left cheek touched the edge of the chair. He smirked remembering
seeing the infirmary staff bandaging her right buttocks after her last match.
"Aren't you three a sorry lot," Anusha said snorting with derisive amusement.
"Why do you laugh?" Bosh asked.
"White bandages, fancy drinks, wallowing in your own pitiful sorrow. You are
soft. I thought you were Rirorni warriors, but now you look like these..Alastarians,"
Anusha said waving a dismissive gesture over all three of them.
"It seems your tongue forgot that you lost your match too," Cosh scoffed.
"Perhaps, but Mud King of Men of Steel was at least a worthy opponent, not unlike
what I see before me now."
"I won my match," Rao commented.
     "Barely."
     "Still, the fact remains."
A barmaid carefully approached their table and looked back to the barkeep whose
eyes urged her on. "Mam, may I take your order."
Anusha slowly turned towards the waitress, though Rao wasn't sure if it was due
to her trying to be intimidating, or due to her derriere injury. "I want the heaviest
drink you have."
     "Very good."
The waitress proceeded to leave when Anusha grabbed her arm. There was a pause
for a heartbeat. She continued, "I want to ensure you understand. I think you heard
that I want a strong drink. That is not the case."
     The waitress shook her head.
Anusha mimicked her. "No, I want a drink in the largest-sized mug you have. Do
you understand?"
She nodded and Anusha released her grip and gave her a gold piece.
     "Good."
"Why aren't you three at Mylar's?" Anusha asked.
"Why aren't you?" the twins retorted in unison.
"I just came from Mylar's, acknowledging our stablemate's accomplishment."
"Why do you honor one of General's Pol's men?" Rao asked.
"The Mytori Priest is a great man."
     "What makes him great?"
"He is the last of General Pol's army."
     "So?"
"Don't you understand? He is the last of ten thousand. He has seen ten thousand
friends and comrades die. Yet, he has survived everything and overcame every obstacle
before him. He is Rirorni and is the greatest gladiator in Rocanis at the moment,"
Anusha said.
     All three men fell silent.
The barmaid then approached and carried an enormous mug filled with beer in both
her hands and sat it down with a solid thump. "A small, Shewish ale, as you ordered."
Anusha eyed it and pushed it aside and rose to leave. "Finish up your drinks and
then I expect to see you three at Mylar's and pay respects where respect is due."
There was another commotion at the front door. It burst open and a fuming Beulah
entered and scanned the room. The troll breathed heavily and huffed in anger.
Rao was a little concerned as the enraged troll spotted their group and headed
their way. The floor creaked in protest under her heavy footsteps. "Why did you knock
Beulah out?" Rao asked.
     "At least she isn't dead."
"Don't you know the password?" the twins asked in unison backing away from the
table.
"Of course I do." Anusha turned to face Beulah as the troll raised her gargantuan
fists.
"Beulah going to pound little girl into floor like peg in dirt!"
"I want to pat your fanny," Anusha said calmly.
Beulah stopped mid-swing with a confused look on her face.
Anusha repeated. "I want to pat your fanny."
The female troll scratched the stubble on her chin and said, "That's da passwoid,
but Beulah still going to pound you like peg." She hesitantly turned around and stuck
out her bottom as far as she could.
Anusha seized the enormous, small Shewish ale from the table. Instead of
brandishing it over the troll's head, she carefully balanced it on the troll's
oversize rump. She then proceeded to pat Beulah's backside and then turned to leave
the bar.
"What da?" Beulah face scrunched in confusion. She began to rise, but the Shewish
ale began to tip. She stopped preventing the mug from spilling. She tried to grab
the handle, but it was out of reach. Beulah snorted in bewilderment as she remained
bent over.
Taking advantage of the situation, the remaining three members of Skull Squadron
quickly downed their drinks and hurriedly followed their companion out the door to
Mylar's.

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Hail gladiators of Rocanis!

Finally, my invite has arrived. I'm unsure if I'm more excited or the other
gladiators in Rocanis. It appeared the courier from the Isle of the Eye had to go
around a large number of Rirorni around Rocanis. It appears Warlord Bannok's men
haven't left, so there is something keeping him here. Just too bad I can't stay to
find out.

I finally learned my favorite weapon, the epee. While I knew I didn't have my
favorite, I had never tried it either due to my deftness. In a typical total parry
stereotype fashion my favorite rhythm was very low, very low, which I never tried and
probably never will.

My last match against Iota Draconis of Draco was interesting. I was a little
concerned when he broke my favorite shield in minute one. The same one I might add
that I used since my first turn. He almost paid for it with his life, but it was very
lucky for him I dialed back my kill desire since the bloodfeud.

For my last match in Rocanis, I always wanted to find out what was behind the door,
'Enter at Your Own Peril' in the gladiatorial arena. I'd say wish me lucky, but
everyone here is so quiet.

It'll be interesting to see who emerges as Duelmaster after I travel to the Isle of
the Eye. Each of the top three warriors, Sergeant 5, DA1, and Iota Draconis each have
a shot. However, I'll put my Lord Protector bonus on DA1. The reason is Sergeant 5
has to actually fight and Iota Draconis hasn't learned that he doesn't have to fight
with that horrible, horrible weapon. Good luck to each!

Ah, I see all of my stablemates from Skull Squadron have finally arrived. I'll bid
you farewell as it's now time for the Duelmaster's feast at Mylar's, so I will leave
my fellow gladiators with some words of encouragement. Remember, each defeat in the
arena is only a delay on the long road to becoming the Duelmaster of Rocanis.

Humbly,

Lord Protector Mytori Priest of Skull Squadron
Duelmaster of Rocanis

                                      SPY REPORT

It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! He who laughs last didn't get the joke. Speaking of laughing at jokes,
observe DRACO. Last week they got 0-1-0 to drop by 4! What's a move up by 3 you
ask? (alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for celebration, according to WEIRD
STUDENTS. DEMONIC DELICACIES had cause to celebrate, after VEALZEBUB got 23 points
by beating JOMMY. SERGEANT 8 certainly had a baffled expression on his face, after
losing to BROKEN BRIAN and losing 11 points in the process! Duelmaster MYTORI PRIEST
from SKULL SQUADRON is going for the gold, as he Dark Arena Challenged DARK ARENA's
MAINAKHA-TE MASTER. Ooh, the excitement! The crowds were amazed this turn, as
MAINAKHA-TE MASTER killed the Duelmaster, MYTORI PRIEST, leaving SKULL SQUADRON in
mourning. Even 75 points weren't good enough to save MYTORI PRIEST from DA1.
ROCANIS welcomes DA1 as the new Duelmaster! Word has it one team in ROCANIS is
taking speech lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
And how sociable are ROCANIS' warriors? Come, let us see. To quell some nasty
rumors, the guys in SKULL SQUADRON are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need
to avoid 'em. The warriors of SKULL SQUADRON found their efforts at combat
frustrated as GRIZZLED VETERANS! apparently had more important things to do than
fight. If challenges were horses, RICH RODDY could open up a fast food joint!
The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... Forgive and forget is
not my motto. Take heed, MISSING TEETH, as OVECHKIN's death remains unavenged. Ask
not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
Do not think spyreporting in ROCANIS is the highlight of my life. As the
seasons change, and the creatures of the wild change also, so do I feel a yearning to
leave this place. Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid ROCANIS
farewell-- Novgorodny Vir
