TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Players old and new!
Some of you may know that at one point last year, RSI tried to pull together an
arena in which role-playing in the personals and in spotlights would be a significant
(and rewarded) feature. Though it didn't work out, the idea remains an appealing
one. I would like to propose that we, the players, sponsor such an effort. No
rules, no prizes, just players getting into the spirit of role-play.
I suggest Telorinthe, arena 83, as a place to try this. Telorinthe is the slow
no-tourney arena, and it seems like a good place for this experiment. There is no
large body of entrenched players with other interests. Although some background work
has been done, there is no great, creaking, edifice of old spotlights to deal with.
Very little in the way of vested interests. Perhaps if all goes well, the idea might
catch on in other arenas.
In keeping with the "no rules" idea, I won't say, "Begins on turn ###!" Just
show up when you feel like it and jump in. We'll keep a seat ready for you.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Here I am, truly trying to embrace my nature and stop telling lies to myself and
those around me, and who enters the arena but a bunch of people who want to do
nothing but lie to those around them. I refuse to let this stop my progress in this
program. It is a tough program, no doubt. Being a bashaholic is a horrible disease
that requires diligence and persistence to overcome. But I know that I am a Basher
and will not let lies prevent me from overcoming!
Learned another skill, but again not one that the commission will recognize.
Assur says there is a slight possibility I get my invite this turn as I reach 30
arena fights, but he says to not get too excited and certainly not to have my
expectations too high. So I'm continuing to work in practice on the skills I need
for the commission to recognize my talents and give me the prize I seek.
I do have to welcome the Tall Tales here, though, because as Chagua so
eloquently put it, it is nice to have fights against warriors and not commission
slaves.

Good day, in ILLIS a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets poor. So
bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. And let's see, COCO NUTTAL fought
JOHNNY APPLESEED and gained 14 points and contributed to ISLANDERS' 2-3-0. JOHNNY
APPLESEED has lost to COCO NUTTAL, falling 9 points, while helping make TALL TALES a
3-2-0 turn. Defending his title for another turn, I'M A BASHER kept ISLANDERS'
warrior, SYLVESTER, from claiming the throne. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have
heard from unimpeachable sources that The Welcome Wench uses trolls in their stew.
Talk about gristle!
Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.'
Inscrutable, but true.
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. Is it really true that ILLIS has more dishwashers per capita that fighters?
Just thought I'd ask...
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Always good to rest in ILLIS, but never good to wear out my welcome. Look
