Notes from the arena champ.
When I heard I was fighting Burning Rubber, it really didn't faze me. I've had
plenty of losses over the years and I just assumed this would be another one. We got
out on the sands and when the Arenamaster started the fight, I was shocked that
Burning Rubber didn't spring into action. I knew better than to wait for him, so I
brought my maul down on his wheel and while it did not puncture, it was not going to
be moving, let alone burning rubber off. Breaking a window was enough for the fight
to be called over and here I am, victorious in a fight I had no business winning.
Thank you, Stormlord or whoever in the stands distracted Burning Rubber long enough
for me to be the Duelmaster.
Before I go any further, I need to tell everyone about the first step in the
Bashaholics Anonymous program, for which I was named and represent. The first step
is to admit that you are powerless over Bashers, that their attraction and allure has
made your life unmanageable. Yes, it is a sad place to be and that is what makes it
such a hard step. To admit that the bashing style has made you powerless.
So I am finally a Lord Protector. My final fight will likely mark my fourth
resurrection. I have seen enough Dark Arena creatures to know that I will need more
than a little luck to last long enough to take one down. I will do my best, though.
After all, I wasn't supposed to take Burning Rubber down, either.

This is one of my favorite team names ever, so it is likely I will recycle it.
My young lungers will fight as Apprentices in January and we'll see after that. I'm
Powerless may one day see action again, but for now, he is retired. For anyone
interested, his normal strategy was: 9-6-x Decise tactic. ML vs. light armor, BS
vs. medium-heavy. It was the best balance I could find between speed, endurance
conservation, and damage. Obviously there were exceptions, but that was his strat,
more often than not.
SPY REPORT
Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt ILLIS will ever be the same. It seems the training can make the difference,
as ISLANDERS is pushed out of top team by IMPROVED ILLUSION, who came from 3rd with a
4-1-0 this turn. The BLOODGUARD guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be
watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's
see, URMUNG COSBU fought JOHNNY APPLESEED and gained 16 points and contributed to
BLOODGUARD's 4-1-0. JOHN WAYNE has lost to HAPPY DRUNKARD, falling 13 points, while
helping make TALL TALES a 2-3-0 turn. This week's Duelmaster bout was between HIGH
ELF and our Duelmaster I'M POWERLESS, making a Dark Arena Challenge. The crowds were
amazed this turn, as HIGH ELF killed the Duelmaster, I'M POWERLESS, leaving
BASHAHOLICS ANON in mourning. This incredible death has allowed, I might add,
FAIRYFIRE from IMPROVED ILLUSION to ascend to the throne of Duelmaster, and I hear
DARK ARENA is not happy. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from
unimpeachable sources that The Dripping Blade uses trolls in their stew. Talk about
gristle!
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. I also notice that the BLOODGUARD
stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on ILLIS, what are you afraid of?
And avoiding BLOODGUARD more than any other team we find IMPROVED ILLUSION. ILLIS,
are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? In a brave attempt, ELMINSTER
from IMPROVED ILLUSION challenged up 21 points to fight G W BUSH from the TALL TALES
stable. ELMINSTER perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he was bested by G W BUSH
and ended up with 59 recognition points. HARVEY of IMPROVED ILLUSION had better have
a good reason for challenging down 14 points in a challenge which he won. I thought
HARVEY showed great skill and promise when he subdued UNCLE FESTER. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. We'd like to remind certain teams
not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's considered
rude.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Always good to rest in ILLIS, but never good to wear out my

WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!
Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 13-15, 2012. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-897-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $134.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception, free airport
shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 15
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and people have been
unable to book rooms because they waited too long.) Look for the tournament info
sheet and minioverviews some time in December. We hope you're all looking forward to
