Pip The Troll/Guardian of Hit Me With.../???
I still need team names from Street Legal, Tiburon, and Guardian. Eloquent
Knights and Lethal Anatomy II are the only two Non-TOGS teams registered to be
run by T#%S IV managers.
Soultaker, Rascally Rabbit, Sandman, Judge, Street Legal, Tiberon,
Elephant, Sir Indimar, Armalias, Anti, Snotman, The Greek Guy, Onedawg, Master
Darque, Pip The Troll, Guardian, and anyone else who joins before Aradi turn
#324 still need to pay their entry fees. For any T#%S IV correspondence, please
e-mail me at ganolus@aol.com. To pay T#$S entry fee, either A) send $10 to Andy
Salveson, 9175 Greenback Lane #111, Orangevale, CA 95662 (let me know which
manager it's from) or B) have RSI send me 2 team set-up GIFT CERTIFICATES (let
me know which manager they're from). The above entry fees are per manager not
per team. All entry fees must be paid by turn # 324 in Aradi. If you need an
exception to this, you must contact me at the above e-mail address or I will
assume you are not participating.
Seraphim, Berylstar, Mannequin, and Rude Buddha are all still looking for
T#%S IV partners. If any of you would like me to match you up with another
manager, please let me know.
T#$S IV Rules (Again):
1. Each T#$S IV team consists of two managers. After the tourney starts, there
will be no switching partners whatsoever, so choose your partner wisely. T#$S
IV will last for 13 turns starting on Aradi turn #324, so pick a partner you can
stand for 6 months or so.
2. The T#%S IV entry fees are 2 team set ups per manager. This means 4 team
set ups per T#$S IV team. Entry fees are required before the start of the
tourney. If you are unable to get your entry fee to me before the start of T#$S
IV, you need to get a hold of me. If I don't hear from you and your entry fee
is not paid, you will not be participating. See above for how to pay your entry
fees.
3. T#$S IV Points System:
10 points for winning on your upchallenge against another T#$S warrior.
7 points for winning on your even challenge of another T#$S warrior.
7 points for winning on another T#$S warrior's challenge.
7 points for winning a random matchup against another T#$S warrior.
4 points for winning on your down challenge of another T#$S warrior.
4 points for winning a random matchup against a non-T#$S warrior.
Do not fight your team mate, you will not get any points. Also, you will not
get any points if you challenge or get challenged by a non-T#$S team, so use
your avoids wisely if you think someone is out to get you.
10 points for being the Duelmaster.
This is in addition to all points listed above and will begin turn 1, so prep
accordingly.
5 points for every spotlight written by any team member, 1 per manager per turn.
The minimum length of a spotlight to receive points is 1/2 column in the
nesletter (that's 31 lines--each line 86 characters across) and I will be
completely firm on this. In addition to the length criteria, spotlights will
not be given any points if they are in any way plagiarized or if they are not
Duelmasters or fantasy related. I will be the sole judge on this. If you're
unsure if I will judge something to be Duelmasters or fantasy related, then e-
mail me before you write the spotlight and I'll let you know what I think.
-5 points per manager per turn every time a manager does not at least write 1
personal ad.
-5 points for being the team that avoided the most.
If you participated in TOGS III, you'll notice some slight changes in the points
structure. The main things are points for random matchups against non-T#$S
warriors, bonus points for being the Duelmaster, new spotlight criteria, and no
points given for being the most avoided team.
4. T#$S IV begins on turn # 324 of Aradi and will last 13 turns. There will
not be a Survivor format this time around, meaning no eliminations. I will
still be doing point multipliers at the end, however. This means that all
points accumulated by a team on turns 10 and 11 will be multiplied by 1.5 and
all points accumulated by a team on turns 12 and 13 will be multiplied by 2.
5. Prizes have been determined. If you did not get them when I posted them
last, just e-mail me and I'll send the prize breakdown to you again.
6. Death Stud and I will be the sole arbiters of any dispute that may arise.
7. I reserve the right to disallow entry into this tourney if you have a
previous history of being a big fat mouth about everything.
Good luck to everyone and don't forget to get those entry fees in. This
will be my last update before the actual start of T#$S IV. See ya on the sands,
or at Farmer Bob's, depending on the manager.

Manager Handicaps the TOGs:
---------------------------------------------
By popular demand! Ok, not really. But as a former TOGS winner and the all-
time high-scorer in TOGS history (at least I think I am), I thought it was only
right that I give my opinion of all of the TOGS teams. Yes, I realize that the
last year, the team I gave 500,000 to 1 odds of winning the TOGs actually won
it. That was a fluke. Remember, that in order to win the TOGS, it takes more
than managerial skill. You must also pay attention, write spotlights, and be
savvy.
If I gave you long odds to win, it's not necessarily indicative or your game
knowledge or managerial skill, but your reputation for not writing or generally
laissez faire attitude.
Here is my analysis of the teams. Overall, this may be the toughest TOGS we've
had yet.
Ganolus/Hombre - Longshots in TOGS III, these two came out of nowhere to win it
all. This team has probably done the most prep work in the TOGs competition
out of all the teams. Ganolus has had his team prepped over a year in advance,
and Hombre has been throwing fights like crazy. However, there has yet to be a
repeat TOGS winner, so this FONZ pairing will have their work cut out against
them.
Odds to Win: 5 to 2
Death Stud/Soultaker - Individually, members of this pairing have done
respectably in TOGS competition. Soultaker has finished as high as 2nd and
Death Stud as high as 3rd. However, this particular pairing together has never
been particular strong, even though Soultaker has been preparing well. They'll
probably do respectably, but the Death Stud's lack of desire to win may drag
them down.
Odds to Win: 15 to 1
Rascally Rabbit/Sandman - This team is sure to generate controversy. How will
the chemistry of this team remain intact with Sandman's announcement to ditch
Rascally Rabbit's alliance? Is Rascally Rabbit capable of writing his
spotlights without getting burned out? Still, this pairing has a history of
working well together and has always performed well above average.
Odds that Rascally Rabbit will be involved in controversy: 1 to 1
Odds to Win: 10 to 1
Shadowgate/Yukon - Shadowgate has been bitten by bad partners in previous TOGs
competitions, although he and Yukon will have the full resources of the DOA as
they carry their new alliance banner into the TOGs. Both have done well in
arena competitions in the past, although either have yet to score a major
victory. A dangerous team.
Odds to Win: 7 to 1
Wimpy/Judge - It has been fun to see these two managers progress in TOGs
contests over the years. However, their obvious lack of preparation for this
contest tells me that they still haven't developed the killer instinct necessary
to do well. Wimpy may be sitting on his TOGS II trophy and Judge's refusal to
run scum puts him at a disadvantage. However, expect these two TOGS veterans
to stick it out until the end.
Odds to Win: 50 to 1
Jack Wolfspider/CFH - Two Free Blade managers entering their first TOGs
competition. Minimal prep work by Jack Wolfspider, CFH isn't even in the arena
yet. The best part of this pairing will be Jack Wolfspider's excellent
spotlights. I used to read them in Lapur. However, competitively, they may be
in over their heads.
Odds to Win: 10 to 1
Dreidenflahg/Street Legal - Looks like a solid mid-level team to me. They won't
quit and might end up finishing higher than most expect. However, a lot of
enemies and poor preparation might do this team in. There is no excuse for a
10-5 record 3 turns before TOGS.
Odds to Win: 75 to 1
Ghoti/Armalias - After finishing 3rd in TOGS I, Ghoti is back, this time with
Armalias. I see this team as working well together as long as they are in the
top group, but the wheels could come off if they fall to the middle or have one
or two bad turns. Ghoti's rust and Armalias's busy schedule could play factors.
Odds to Win: 35 to 1
Nuln/Tiberon - In a surprise move, Nuln is not teaming with Snotman and opted
to go with Tiberon. Possibly a wise move, since in all three TOGs competitions,
a brand new pairing has won it all. Even if this team doesn't do well, I expect
Nuln to write some of the best spotlights around.
Odds to Win: 50 to 1.
Elephant/Indimar - A wildcard team with little prior history in basic arena
contests make them hard to gauge. Minimal preperation. A lack of the
intricacies of basic contests along with lack of resources could do this team
in. Can they also write spotlights every turn?
Odds to Win: 100 to 1
Anti/Snotman - I won't believe Anti is capable of finishing out a TOGs contest
until I actually see it.
Odds to win: 10,000,000 to 1
The Greek Guy/Rillion - Individually, this team has had success in basic
contests. Together, they are a shambles. Who can forget the disastrous 0-10
showing they pulled in the last turn of the TOGS, a turn which sent them out of
the money and plummeting down the rankings. Frankly, I'm expecting a similar
collapse here, both are known for slow finishes.
Odds to Win: 80 to 1
Onedawg/Master Darque - Two managers who seem to be more in it for the
experience rather than to actually win. Where is Captain K?
Odds to Win: 100 to 1
Pip the Troll/Guardian - Guardian says that he's changed and that he's ready to
micromanage again and kick butt. But based on the fact that he's already out of
the Morya Madness and the fact that he hasn't issued any challenges in the
Talcama Battle Royale in several turns now, I am extremely skeptical. Barring
Doc Mabuse coming in and killing some of Guardian's warriors, I won't expect
much out of these two.
Odds to Win: 75 to 1
DeGotti/The Rage Man - Another TOGS II winner DeGotti, and Kontest winner, The
Rage Man pairing up in an interesting combo. Both were considered the support
players on their respective teams. (to Destitute Noble and Lightbringer,
respectively) One or both of them will have to step up in order to make a run
at the top group.
Odds To Win: 75 to 1
Rude Buddha/Mannequin - Another interesting team that was thrown together at
the last minute. With Mannequin being out for so long and Rude Buddha still a
bit rough around the edges, this team should worry about starting the contest
slowly. However, if they stick with it until the end, they may finish in the
top half.
Odds to Win: 100 to 1

Istoreth, Skaithvarn:
The guards hustled them away from the waterfront and up a steep street to the
next level of buildings. They weren't hostile or aggressive toward their charges,
but it was plain that they meant to be obeyed.
Raoul cocked an eye at Berdan, who was walking next to him and breathing a
little heavily. "You know who this Lord Dankilvan is? What his position is here in
Istoreth?"
The ex-assassin shook his head. "Not to be sure of it. Istoreth is ruled by a
council of lords, and I suppose he's one of them, but...I don't know which one."
"Looks like we'll find out soon," Jeri remarked as the leading guards turned
through a gateway.
They passed through a courtyard lined with small evergreen trees that had been
pruned into the shapes of fantastic creatures. The building beyond was large and
foreign-looking. Windows and doors had pointed tops and elaborate fretwork filled
with sly faces around them, the columns of the portico were shaped like tree-trunks
and done with such care and detail that it was possible to identify the type of tree
used as a model. They were hurried through halls so filled with rich-colored carpets
and rich-colored tapestry wall hangings and richly inlaid furniture made of rich and
exotic woods that everything became a blur, a sort of visual indigestion. Only the
occasional detail penetrated the dazzle: an exquisitely curved vase the color of the
sky in a dream that stood quietly in a niche, a single white rose lying on a table, a
statue of a slim dog like a miniature greyhound that suddenly stood up and stepped
toward them, ears cocked curiously.
They came out on a terrace that looked over the harbor and the Trier Sea beyond.
There were trellises of roses, and overhead screens to make shade, a fountain
rippling and flinging rainbows into the air, and benches, a table, a decanter of wine
and several glasses, and Lord Dankilvan.
It was impossible to guess his age. For one thing, he looked like having a lot
of elven blood. High elven blood, the kind that was tall, thin, and blond, Araoi.
After the extreme richness of the furnishings in the house, he was dressed with
surprising plainness. Silk, of course, but subdued in color, maybe gray or some
grayed shade, it was hard to tell because it kept changing subtly in the changing
light, but plain.
Raoul noticed that the guards didn't follow them onto the terrace. Either this
man was very trusting, or he figured he could handle any trouble they made. It would
make a difference which.
"You declared yourselves Andorian when you docked," he said. "Very well. Tell
me about this man Peranis and what he is up to."
"You met him?" Berdan asked.
"He...approached me. With a book he wanted to sell. I have books of my own and
did not desire his. He became angry. Desperate, too, I think. What is he doing,
what is he likely to do if pushed to it?"
"He's making trouble," Raoul said flatly. "He's a renegade assassin--"
Dankilvan's expression chilled. "Any trouble Andoria gets into because of its
foul Assassins' Guild is well deserved. But I will not have you drawing Istoreth
into it."
"We're trying to prevent that," Raoul said quietly. Was there any point in
telling this man that King Mickeal had outlawed the Assassins' Guild? Probably not.
After all, it had been outlawed once before and had come back. "We want to catch
Peranis and destroy his book."
"Not keep it for your own use?"
"No."
Dankilvan was silent for a long moment, one hand resting lightly on the stopper
of the decanter. Raoul noted that the stopper was formed from some kind of crystal
as full of rainbows as the falling water and wondered if it had magical properties.
Finally the Istorthene said, "I turned this Peranis from my presence once he had said
his piece. The other Lords of Istoreth, advised by me, gave him no hearing at all.
Eventually he was ordered to leave the city as a pernicious nuisance. He did leave.
There was no boat departing for Alastari at that time, and a man answering his
description passed out through the south gate and took the road to Leemith." An
expression of distaste passed across the Istorthene's face. "They may have met his
demands in Leemith. The Leemin are capable of anything." With emphasis, he
repeated, "Anything."
Raoul sighed. "Then I guess we follow him to this Leemith place. Can you tell
us anything about it?"
"I can provide you with an escort who has some knowledge of the place,"
Dankilvan said. "We employ Alastarians here--gladiators--for special jobs. I offer
you a Delarquan woman, Hallie O'Dene. You will find her knowledgeable, and reliable.
If you can bring yourself to work with a Delarquan."
Before Berdan could utter the protest Raoul saw developing, the gladiator said,
"I'll work with anyone who can help me get the job done."

SPY REPORT
Hail ARADI! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your
deeds. Now, what did these guys have for breakfast this morning? DEATH STUDS VII
has turned a 3-2-0 into 20th place from 38th. Give me the recipe! It doesn't rain,
but it pours for RED DOG GANG this turn, a 0-5-0 causing a 21 flight drop in the team
rankings. Hand that team a dry towel. The SHADOW SIGNS guild has had a 3-1-0 turn
and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing
can lead. ARADI welcomes a new team to our ranks, unofficially of course, for now.
But welcome nonetheless to MY BEST BUDS 2. Let's see what you can do. PREJUDICE has
lost to GENEVIEVE, falling 18 points, while helping make LEGALESE a 2-3-0 turn. This
turn VERISIMILITUDE challenged BIGGLES in what was ARADI's Title bout. And not
without some honor, BIGGLES now claims the title and throne of Duelmaster of ARADI.
Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters
do dishes at The Blind Cyclops Inn until they win. Maybe?
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. CLUB CULTURE has cause to stand tall,
as they were ARADI's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And guess who avoided CLUB CULTURE stable the most? Believe it or not, it was
ELOQUENT KNIGHTS. Anyone surprised? The most challenged warrior this turn was WILD
CARDS' warrior NAPPY DUGOUT. More fighters challenged her than challenged the
Duelmaster! In a brave attempt, SYRINGE from BLOOD RELATED challenged up 22 points
to fight THE LIMELIGHT from the CLUB CULTURE stable. SYRINGE perhaps got his just
desserts, seeing as he beat THE LIMELIGHT and ended up with 109 recognition points.
SLACKJAW of I'M WITH STUPID had better have a good reason for challenging down 10
points in a challenge which it won. I thought SLACKJAW showed great skill and
promise when it beat DICHABOD. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? The Blind Cyclops Inn declares a free round for NEWCASTLE and all of
BEERBARIANS, for having revenged BLACK FRIARS' GUILDENSTERN for killing one of their
comrades. We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies.
You know who you are; and it's considered rude.
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your swords
sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in ARADI again, farewell--
Alarond the Scribe

Aradi -- Please enter me and DeGotti into the T@$S competition. (I have no idea why
it's called that) My team is Red Avengers and his team is Fa Ching. I don't usually
leave my slow arenas, so go easy on me. -- The Rage Man, Red Avengers
Barnabas -- Actually, I'm here; I merely chose not to post due to the fact that real
life issues necessitate my leaving Duelmasters for a time. Be well--I'll be back
eventually to make you eat those words. *grin* -- Ichabod "The Antichrist"
Frothingslosh, mgr. Nihilistic Endeavor
Raspberry Stoli -- A thrashing Stoli. Now that is quite a sight. -- Bupkes
Obed -- You remind me of an Irish place to sleep, O'Bed. I was lucky to win this
one. I was guessing when I challenged you. How is your arse? -- Freep
Helms -- I guess you must have been really tired from winning those five fights. At
least you don't have to worry about protecting your undefeated record anymore. --
Frub
Tog Stinker -- Your name says it all. -- Pipsqueak
Dumb -- You may be the fastest dummy I have ever seen. -- Snirp
I'm With Stupid -- Hey, now that's funny! I think I'm going to change my team name

Wimpy -- I think there must have been a misplaced roadsign or something because all
of those Wimpy fighters have been showing up at my place. -- Death Stud
Death and pestilence to the Postal Service!!!!! They damaged the envelope that had
all the turns for all the arenas that I was prepping for the tourney and held onto it
for a week before returning it to me. YOU EVIL BASTARDS!!!! Besides screwing
basically ALL of my tourney warriors, they put me in a whole for the TOGS, too. You
will all die.... -- Death Stud
P.S. To any Bush administration anti-terrorism watchdogs scouring the Internet or
snooping RSI, the above is merely a fictional extrapolation of my discontent over a
setback in a play-by-mail game. It is purely role-playing and in no way, shape, or
manner am I any sort of Taliban or Al-Qaeda member or sympathizer. I also do not
blaspheme God (well, not most of the time anyway), I do not perform partial birth
abortions, and I do not think that Dubya is a meat-headed monkey-humper who has sold
his soul to corporate interests and the religious right. Really, I don't. Please do
not arrest me and send me to Guantanomo to be savaged by sadistic jarheads while
never informing my family of my whereabouts or charging me with any crime. Thank
you.
Barnabas -- Master Evil was so afraid of Mithril Halo's 53-59 record that he had to
run in fear. He thought that being a loser might be contagious and didn't want it to
rub off on him. -- Death Stud
All -- Prepare yourself for the TOGS! -- Death Studs
Good luck to everybody in the T@#$. It'll be strange to have it be a Dwayne
Wayneless one, but it should be good competition nonetheless. Here's to a clean &
drama-free T@#$. -- Nuln
Transcendentalism -- What happened to hooking up a fellow FONZ *brother* with a
complimentary 5 skills? Soultaker isn't paying you to sit on your butt!!! -- Sir
Zestalot, who had big plans
Prime Minister -- Good challenge. And where were my skills? (have you noticed a
trend w/Nuln's warriors) I am not feeling the love. -- the Aylmer
Gazrekk -- *yawn* -- Sir Zestalot
Barnabie Bass -- I was ready before the guy who was ready was ready. And even before
that, I was still ready. As we speak, I'm ready, and I plan on being ready up until
about, oh, say anywhere between 1am--2am PST Nov. 8th. After that I'll go back to my
lazy ways. See ya in a bit. -- Nuln
Slipknot -- Bow before your master. Not me, but presumably you have one somewhere.
-- Son of Bloodlust
Thorne -- Nice one. I think if I used a shorter, slightly more pointy weapon I may
have had you. An A-bomb would have worked effectively too. I blame this one on
Nuln. -- Winker X
Murray -- Surely you don't expect to defeat the Dog Star? -- Sirius
Riff -- Oh, hey, I'm not a retriever or anything. You push me out into that swift
current, and all you get is a big wet dog that'll shake on you first chance. That's
after climbing up you to get out of the water. It isn't that I'm AFRAID of the
water, you understand, I just don't LIKE it. -- Lummox
P.S. After all, when it's smooth, it looks like it should be a floor you can walk
on, and when it isn't smooth, it's scary.
Blackburst -- (sneezes several times) Wad dad blag bebber? -- Bull Doggam
Bloody Hell -- Yes, indeed! I always suspected that Dwarves were anti-Dog. Now I
know it. -- Teacup Terrier
Putz'n Along -- Hey, I like a guy that's got time to stroll along and smell the fire
hydrants. How about if you and me go check out the street, eh? -- Boone
Ed. -- No, true dogs don't get splinters in their mouths from chewing on sticks.
It's our spit. It softens wood or something. I don't understand the technical
stuff, but I know it works. -- Lummox
P.S. Of course, we can get splinters in our feet. Then we either have to bite our
toes or get a human to help. Splinters in the feet are bad.
Ah, good thing you don't chew with your feet then. -- Ed.
