"A rescue? You're going to race up to a Dark Temple shouting about a rescue?"
Harkon asked. "Are you insane, or just crazy?"
The Black Orc paused and looked back over his shoulder. "That's so that any
other Good Guys around can hear and join in the rescue," he said.
Harkon ducked through the slit in the curtain and stared at the Dark Temple.
The building proclaimed its antiquity and its purpose with every time-stained stone,
every gruesome carving. "I have never seen that temple before," the arenamaster said
flatly, "and I know the city well. It hasn't BEEN here before. This alley..." he
narrowed his eyes in thought, "this alley used to end in a junk shop."
Jorge shrugged. "So? It's a Dark Temple now."
"This is a thing that is WRONG, Jorge, it's nefarious in some way we can't see
yet. So it has to be either Madame Lu's doing, or the Clishay Gang, and we--"
Another scream came from the gaping entrance to the temple. Very urgent it
sounded, but it ended abruptly with a choke and a gurgle.
Harkon nodded. "The Clishay Gang at work." He put his hands on his hips and
tipped his head back, staring at the upper parts of the buildings lining the alley.
The Black Orc bared his tusks. "Enough is enough, dammit. I'm not going to let
a woman scream her life out just because she had the bad luck to get involved with
the Clishay Gang." He raised his sword again and charged on down the alley, yelling
ferociously but wordlessly in the orcish manner.
Harkon shook his head, finished his scrutiny of the rooftops and balconies for
possible ambushers, and strolled after his companion.
The entrance to the Dark Temple, when he reached it, confirmed his guess that it
was affiliated with the Clishays. Which is to say, it was carved in the likeness of
a fanged maw, and the light within was reddish, hazy, and not very bright. Clouds of
some noxious incense filled the air, and there were guttural exclamations, grunts,
and the clang of steel on steel. Yes, he could see them, armored guards pressing
around the form of the Black Orc. Jorge was a blur, of course, for such a stocky
fellow, he was damned fast, Harkon knew. But not a heavy thinker. How many temples,
dark or otherwise, would have a bunch of armed and armored knights on hand in the
middle of a rainy night, just in case? To the best of Harkon's knowledge, dark
priests were even less like to spend money on such window-dressing than light ones.
Oh, well. It was probably a wrong move when dealing with the Clishays, but
Harkon's every instinct demanded that he aid a companion who was fighting an unequal
battle. He drew his own sword and then lunged forward, as fast and devastating as a
lightning strike. A dark guardsman went down, falling (of course) in such a way as
to slow two more just long enough for him to gut one on the follow-through and
hamstring the other with the backstroke. Jorge roared some more, hacking in all
directions. Harkon ducked under two of his strokes and stepped back. Yes, the Black
Orc should be able to handle the rest of these minions without difficulty. And he
would enjoy it. Black Orcs were naturally violent--it wasn't a clishay if it was
true, was it?--and Jorge hadn't had a good outlet for that lately. A good
arenamaster tried to keep his crew happy, that was the secret of running a good
arena. Well, one of the secrets.
Harkon strolled over to the altar, where a woman--young, beautiful, scantily and
immodestly clad, and miraculously uninjured--was tied up for the sacrifice. He cut
her loose, brushed off her thanks, and pointed out Jorge, now finishing off the last
of the guards, as the primary rescuer.
When she rushed over to thank him, Harkon reached into his belt pouch and pulled
out one of his most prized possessions: Nancy Drew's magnifying glass. The young
detectress had left it in his office by accident shortly before her death, and Harkon
had cherished it ever since. He held it up and looked through it at the woman, then
sighed. As he had feared, she was...not entirely real. This was easy to tell,
because through the glass, he could see that she had not been painted on this side,
she was, in fact, the hollow mask of a woman.

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings, warriors of ARADI! Once again I've been called out of retirement for
my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. Biff! Pow! ARADI watched with glee as
THIEVES GUILD got knocked off top spot by CRAZY CREEPS! Who can explain it? Not
you, not me, not ATLAS PARK's opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from
17th to 4th. You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge...
DILEN'S HORDE moved up 11 places, to 9th. Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not
THE BIZZLE's opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 24th to 11th.
You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge... CHEER-O-KEE'S
moved up 14 places, to 14th. 4000 BLOWS bit the big one as they could not win. They
dropped from 4th down to 15th! Are you guy giving lessons or what? Looking for a
good fight, confident, skilled, tough opponents. Well don't look at ARADI RESORT &
SPA, cause they dropped by 14. Ever take one of those association tests? You know,
he says black, you say white. Water-Lake, Sky-Blue. Try this: Flop. NATURAL
DISASTERS! It seems so recently people were saying CHILDHOOD TRAUMA was washed up,
finished. But 4-0-0 moved them up 7. I guess they're washed no more... Welcome to
ARADI, THE BUNKHOUSE! We need more teams who can get a 3-2-0 their first time out!
What's with WALMART GREETER? He actually beat METAL MELTDOWN's ACE OF SPADES, and
walked away with 23 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at ARADI while they
watched VIRGINAL GIGOLO clobber FLOWER. She lost 12 points and got bruised from
objects thrown from the stands. BALLROOM BLITZ was reminded on the sands why FALCON
XLI is Duelmaster. Advice to fighters with a 1 will--give up fighting!
No matter the time or place, men will always duel. How well I know the feeling
of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of practive, 4000 BLOWS! In my
day, no team with a 608-673-28 would scare me off! What's the problem, SILENT
WARRIORS? How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, PANTHER!
Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. NEZUMI of THIEVES GUILD
knows how to pick 'em. He challenged IN PARI DELICTO of LEGALESE who is up by 19.
Now was this a wise move? NEZUMI perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he was
beat by IN PARI DELICTO and ended up with 42 recognition points. I hate going to the
effort of writing about the kind of fights that SLIPKNOT gets in. He fights people
like JIM PANZI, 13 points below. I thought SLIPKNOT showed great skill and promise
when he won victory over JIM PANZI. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Warriors of ARADI unite. You have only your games to lose! FALCON XLI killed
BALLROOM BLITZ, and expects revenge from METAL MELTDOWN. The dead are better off
dead--they have no worries. DE NOVO was plum wore out after NIGHT HAG pounded 'im
silly in a Bloodfeud. LEGALESE'll have to get a little better before going after
NIGHT HAG again! CROW larned his lesson (KARMA CHAMELEON taught it well), and we
right likely won't be seein' 'im fight any ATLAS PARK members with the same gusto.
Here's some advice: study your opponent, master many skills, fight dirty.
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? The
end of another Spyreport! That's cause for celebration in my book! Time for my
medication, so I'll leave now. Practice, practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

Nuln -- No need to apologize. I am a little bummed though; Side-Bar was a 21 WT/15
WL underachieving Striker. I was more bummed about losing Bad Raith on the prior
turn. He was a 21 WT/17 Will Striker. No bloodfeud. I don't have anyone who can
beat your guy left in my stable. Good luck in the TOGS. -- Judge

Barnabas -- Yes, you recall me from Aruak City. I wish to remind you, however, that
I only made that promise for that city because I intended to prove a point to certain
nay-sayers there. I have not, nor will I, make any such promise again. My word is
good, when I give it. I have not promised to behave in the Andorian way here,
however. *grin* I'll consider running Free Blades style here. How's that?
*chuckle* Now, if I can only get somebody to EXPLAIN how Free Bladers think.
Getting two to agree would be damned near a miracle. -- Lord Xiang

Barnabas -- Sort of. Filling in blanks on Terrablood's Manager Census. -- Lord Xiang

RR -- I am well aware how easily killed Aimers are. Grrrrrr. -- Lord Xiang, AARP

4000 Blows -- Nope, I run AARP. I came up with the name at the Face, and had to run
it. I figured TOGS would be the best place to have this team show up. -- Lord Xiang
P.S. Although I talked with Soultaker for a few minutes on some appropriate names
for future warriors!

Sorry all, not sure why I didn't run last turn. I am starting to get frustrated. I
have had five teams not run so far, even though they had almost twice the time needed
to get to RSI, and showed up late. -- Lord Xiang

(Interpreted by The Crazy Creeps Scribe to mean, Death Studs had a mere 4-1-0, while
The crazy Creeps had a terrific 4-1-0. One has to understand Creepy's humor.)

Hombre -- Oh; are you in the FONZ? Why? -- The Crazy Creeps Scribe

Thalia -- You challenged like Dopey and fought like Bashful. -- Snow White

Nuln -- You have never been on the mailing list for the Award Winning Crazy Creeps
Free Press. The limited list has always been quite exclusive. Perhaps when you grow
up and make something significant of yourself? -- The Crazy Creeps Free Press Editor
(on severance pay)

Rocky Banks -- I loved tussling with you. Thank you for letting me come out on top.
-- Tiny Tim

Lady Elysian -- The games you of which you speak which keep Artemis up all night are
non participatory on his part. He can only watch nowadays. Would YOU like to
participate? -- Pandora Of The Pretty Legs

The Award Winning Aradi Free Press will again judge TOGS spotlights, offering the
following awards each round:
Blue Bonnet (first place) best spotlight
Red Scarf (second place) almost best spot
White Belt (third place) nearly almost best spot

Black Jock (used) (last place) worst spotlight
The awards will be based on whatever The Free Press so decides.
     Editor: Aradi Free press

Rascally Rabbit -- Normally I'd say nice to see ya around again, but sheesh! Take it
easy buddy, TOGS hasn't started yet. You don't get extra points for kills either, by
the way. I'm gonna start using you instead of the Dark Arena. :P But seriously,
nice to see ya back! -- Ganolus

Indimar and Elephant -- Welcome back, guys! -- Ganolus

Nulnita -- I know you were thinking "1-5 warrior, need an easy win, let's challenge
Ganolus!" Well think again! I'm not taking your crap this time around! j/k. --
Ganolus

Chim Richalds -- So that's how you use a longsword.... -- Mouse

Jamis -- Tough break. You had me worried when I couldn't riposte you. See ya
around. -- Panther

Barnabas -- You and Rascally should really consider starting something like Murder,
Inc., the Dark Arena alternative. You two would make a killing right before the TOGS
and all. No pun intended. Please stay away from us with your 'friendly' challenges.
-- Ganolus and the Silent Warriors

All -- Well I have finally returned to the sands after a long absence. I'm
especially eager to test my warriors against those of Barnabas, my brief one-time
ally who during my absence has apparently become some sort of mega manager. But the
main reason of my return is to seek vengeance on my so-called father, Indimar. After
years of counseling (not to mention reconstructive surgery) for all the physical and
emotional abuse I suffered at his hands as a small child, I'm finally ready to fight
back. Unfortunately, memories of my childhood will be forever tainted. Damn you,
Indimar! DAMN YOUUUUUU!!!!!!! -- Pauly
P.S. I swear, just ask Barnabas or Hombre or Elephant.

Death Stud -- To be mentioned in the personal ads by a Mega Manager such as yourself
gives me goosebumps. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you remember me because of
my mouth and not my playing ability. Not exactly Christmas, more like Hanukkah. The
Saint was the right path about Atlas Park. I'm an advisor to Atlas Park, I'd say
Consultant but no one is foolish enough to pay me for advice. Atlas Park is run by
Cyber Punk. I'll watch from a far, run my mouth from time to time but it's his show.
-- Elephant, King of Smack

I've made the change on my list. -- The Saint, keeper of lists

Barnabas -- Nice to see you again, old friend. With friends like you, Indimar won't
need enemies. Did you really have to kill the 21 wit striker whose stats you knew?
Does this rule out you and Indimar teaming up for TOGS? Aradi is a lot more brutal
than I remember. -- Elephant
P.S. I know you didn't mean it, but you really didn't think I'd let you slide on
this one did you?

Sandman -- Moo Moo Lover was my favorite pig--it's on now!!!!! -- Farmer boB

Death Stub -- When I say loser in regards to the FONZ, that includes my cousin the
Shaman. None of you with the exception of the great Nuln could make it a day on the
farm. -- Farmer boB

Nuln -- My BEEF with the Fonz is they are city slickers, ain't never knew a good city
slicker, can't trust um. Just ask the old gut Soultaker. -- boB

Snotman -- Are you back? Actually missed you, city slicker and all. -- boB

Nuln -- You have a free subscription to my local paper; we have cooler pictures,
unlike that other publication. -- boB

Farmer boB local paper headlines
FONZ -- Funny old nose picker Z-something
Free Press -- National Enquirer want-to-be
Papa Bear older than Creespster--is that possible?
Ed. -- Seen taking banned drug believed to be Valium
Cows team in Aradi -- boB in lust
   A-Sop & Lady Elysian -- WOO HOO!!!!!!!!
(This issue brought to you by the National Cattleman Ass.)

Don't you believe it. I have a prescription for that! -- Ed.

Talon -- Adios, amigo! -- Rip Rap

Jim Panzi -- There you go, living up to your name. Can't even beat a woman, what a
panzi, on your challenge even! -- Sandy Beach

Sal Monella -- Sorry bub, had my Sal Monella shot just a couple weeks ago. Your
nasty little bacteria doesn't work on me. -- Little Eddy

Tiny Tim -- Just couldn't stop laughin'. No, it's not the hair, the nose, anything
like that, it's just you! -- Rocky Banks

Death Stud -- You can fight my guys any time you want, during TOGS especially. --
Barnabas

Indimar Fallin' -- See, I told you those strategies work! -- Barnabas

Dillagaf Legion -- Congratulations on your 2-2 turn. I was worried after that 0-4
start that you might continue on in a winless manner throughout the TOGS and that
would have been just embarrassing. But I had faith in you. -- Death Stud

Superior Forces -- Chin up for you too, little buckaroo. You won't be winless
forever. -- Death Stud
P.S. Welcome back.

Asshe-Master -- We can't believe that you would avoid our team? I mean, we are
allies, aren't we? (Note that being allied is not the same as being part of an
alliance.) Death Stud is definitely amused by your challenges and avoids. It
doesn't even take the TOGS to get us to challenge and avoid one another, just the
mere presence of a FONZite warrior in challenging range is good enough to set off the
alarm bells. I'm pretty sure with most of the other "alliances" that it's nice to
have a group of warriors they can count on not getting challenges from and don't have
to worry about. With us, it's just the opposite. We worry MORE when one of you
bozos is in challenging range of us, Death Stud starts getting all twitchy, kill
desires go up, you know the drill. Anyway, thank you for accepting my challenge and
best of luck in ADM to you. -- Falcon

Crazy Creeps Free Press -- Oh, don't feel too much pity for Soultaker. He'd have
been more than happy to turn his own daggers on one of us had the roles been
reversed. Of course, some daggers are wielded with more precision and skill that
others.... <grin> -- Raven

Tiny Tim -- Oh, you're one to talk, junior! -- Chocolate Stud

Lord Nuln -- Sorry about that underchin thing. Bummer of a birthmark, Hal. -- Death
Stud
P.S. But, um, I hear chicks really dig underchins. Yeah.

Nuln -- What about a stuttering, old English/pig Latin cross with a lisp and bad
grammar? -- Death Stud

Indimar -- Wow, and I thought some of our little inter-FONZ things were mean, but we
can take treachery lessons from Barnabas, can't we? Ouch! -- Death Studs
P.S. I've heard that gasoline starts very nice house fires and you do know where
Barnabas lives....

Hombre -- What Creepster meant was that Sandman had the only FONZ TC by someone that
he LIKED. -- Helpful Stud

Maybe we could just get The Saint to post the manager names of each team that shows
up new between now and the beginning of TOGS? -- Death Stud
P.S. I was going to say between now and the end of eternity, but the beginning of
TOGS seemed like a much more achievable goal.

I don't know. It depends on what's in it for me. -- The Saint, keeper of lists

Nuln -- But the tradeoff is that she gets to help me with my strategies during the
TOGS. I'm hoping that will give my warriors a little boost. -- Death Stud

Lady Elysian and Nuln -- Well, if you're going to do the long, drawn-out personal ads
all in Pig Latin, but instead of emailing, sure to handwrite those in cursive with a
dull #2 soft pencil on 1/4" blue-line graph paper and snail mail them for last minute
delivery along with a post-it note asking "please try to be more careful with the
spelling this time, thanks." -- Death Stud

If you think I'm going to stick with taking out my ire on those who commit such
acts, you're wrong. Instigators will be punished as well. Of course, sending
stuff in that way may well mean ads don't run at all, which would be another
     problem entirely. -- Ed.

Lady A-Sop -- No rules bending, Li'l Miss Trouble. Good to have you here. -- Death
Stud

Barnabas -- Mighty strange way of welcoming Wing Hove back to Aradi. With a buddy
like you around, at least I don't need to go out and make new enemies. -- Indimar

Nuln -- WAGER SCRODBUCKS?!? Are you insane? Couldn't we bet something less
valuable? How about some nice gold or jewels? -- Indimar

Death Stud -- I know you joke to cover your deep fear of my managerial prowess. --
Indimar

One-Timer -- You always lie. You hit me lots and lots and lots of times, and for no
reason! I was being a Good Dog! I'm glad you didn't learn anything. -- Flower

Sehenstes -- (standing over him and licking his face) I love it when you scratch my
ears like that. Do it some more! -- Pretty Boy
P.S. "Very low/very low." Does that mean "time to take a nap"? Sounds good to me.

Nappy Dugout -- (sneezing repeatedly) Blanket fuzz. -- Stevie

Derald -- This is very strange. I seem to have some total parry's strategy! It
WORKED, but it just isn't ME. I think I'll ask Spot to get rid of it. It really
just isn't me. -- The Tail, born to wag
P.S. A-Sop, did you do that to me?

Karma Chameleon -- I ate a karma once, but it stuck to my teeth. People laughed.
Humans can be so insensitive. -- Bully Boy

Ed. -- (everybody perking up) A ball? Rolling down a hill! Lead us to it! -- Spot
and the Red Dog Gang

Not yet. In the interim, we could arrange something with a Frisbee though. --
     Ed.

Son of Bloodlust -- We dogs don't hold grudges, honest! We want to be your friend!
-- Flower

Inigo -- But sometimes it helps if you throw a frisbee for us. -- Bully Boy

Ed. or somebody -- When does TOGS actually start? How much longer have we to pursue
the nefarious Clishay Gang? -- Arenamaster Harkon

I believe it starts after the next tournament. That's when I'm planning on my
extended trip to anywhere without lightning pigeon access, at any rate. -- Ed.

Sorry, no story...just didn't get any inspiration or maybe it's just not getting
enough sleep...

Ahhh, another last minute ad writing frenzy....

Sonett -- Ahh, I didn't get a chance to use Thibault against your Capa Ferro. Damn.
But since you taught me Bonetti's Defense, I thank you. -- Inigo

Snow White -- Argh! I almost had you in minute two. Maybe next time I'll throw you
an apple. -- Thalia

Harriet -- I enjoyed our fight. Thanks for the skills too. -- Manda

Venrek -- My own fault for being tired even before we started fighting. No more full
days doing massages before the fights. -- Analise

Devourer -- No, I didn't need to see your special move again. Sheesh! -- Natasha

Keep creeping, Creepster. I am not so easy to appease. -- Lady Elysian

Lady Fern -- Thank you for introducing your establishment. I will be happy to refer
those who wish your types of services to your Flower Shoppe. -- Lady Elysian

Tiny Tim -- That may be true, but Death Stud has an insatiable appetite. I took him
to dinner once and it nearly bankrupted me. One chocolate kiss just won't be enough
for him. Ohhh, wait, you're talking about physical size.... Hmmm, I don't have a
ready answer for that one. -- Lady Elysian, still thinking....

Certain Consortium Folk -- So nice to hear from you all, and your very sweet remarks.
I'm fine, we're all fine here. How are you? -- Lady Elysian

What's with Nuln's underchin? Everyone has an underchin--for most people, it's that
area that gets flabbier and jowlier as we get older. However, at the Aradi Resort
and Spa, we do have some wonderful treatments and exercises which can help tone that
and other areas of your bodies! Mention Nuln's underchin and we'll give you 20% off
your first treatment!! -- Lady Elysian, taking advantage of a marketing opportunity

Death Stud -- I love your acronymic abilities. They're

Aradi's

TOGS is coming....
And I must admit, you are better than me...but I know something you don't know.... --
Lady Elysian

Death Stud -- No wonder I adore you. And so do my band of misfits. -- Lady Elysian

Nullllll -- Hmmm, I can see about looking for some Frafrejan Foot Greulay. Sounds,
um...interesting, but in the meantime, we do have a great Margarita pedicure. -- Lady
Elysian

Nuln -- I really don't think you'd look good as an elongated toe ball, so let's just
concentrate on story writing. -- Lady Elysian

Listen to the lovely lady. -- Ed.

Dr. Chim Richalds -- No, I didn't know Aradi was a side of hamhock. How, um,
interesting. A healer, eh? Well, I'm feeling just fine without your hands, so I'll
pass for now. -- Analise

My dear Aradi Managers -- May I get a short blurb and description of yourselves for
my story writing? I like to know who I'm including and how to write you in short
cameos or even longer ones. Maybe I can ask dear Saint to forward them to me by
email or you can mail them into the Commission who will forward them to me. I'd
really appreciate the opportunity to get to know you all. -- Lady Elysian

Dear Saint -- May I bribe you with garlic sauce and chicken shwarma or rich cookies
to forward the above? -- Lady Elysian

I'd take the garlic and chicken, but no rich cookies for me. -- The Saint,
keeper of lists and a low-cookie lifestyle

Mannequin -- So what would you like to play, my dear sir? I've never played with a
Mannequin before. -- Lady Elysian

Bully Boy -- (puzzled look as well) You keep using that word. I do not think it
means what you think it means. -- Inigo

Hombre -- Didn't you know that exercise increases one's energy? So exercise and
write more ads and you'll be more energetic for TOGS. -- Lady Elysian

Lady A-Sop -- Thanks so much for joining me for TOGS. It was getting a bit lonely
without another lady to tease the menfolk. -- Lady Elysian

Crow -- Thanks for killing my ambi, good damage, lunger who was bonused in at least
attack and int. I really didn't want to run her anyway. Word on the street is that
your manager has some pull with the RUGs. Think you can talk with her about throwing
me a bone? Thanks. -- Cyber Punk, manager Atlas Park

Bully Boy -- Twelve more fights than me and only three skills? You are a bully. --
Karma Chameleon

Saint -- Elephants aren't allowed in Atlas Park. Their crap is too big. Please
update your list as me as the manager of Atlas Park. -- Cyber Punk

'Tis done. -- The Saint, keeper of lists

Lady Elysian -- I look forward to your personal attention upon my visit to your
wonderful spa. -- Soultaker

Mannequin -- I heard that it is Samwise that is now playing with...Mannequin. --
Soultaker

Indimar -- I am glad to see you returned. May your blades be sharp. -- Soultaker

Lord Xiang -- Glad to see you make it here. Always remember while in Aradi to sleep
with one eye open and on your back. -- Soultaker

A-Sop -- My favorite fable is coming out of the closet. Long has she been a closet
Andorian and now she is spreading her plumage for all to see. I really think it
would have been easier to go to a Free Blades arena first but who am I to question
one so destined for Andorian values. -- Soultaker

     That's a nice trowel you've got there. -- Ed.

Nuln -- I look forward to raising the bar just a little and refrain from mentioning
animals and yourself in the same sentences. -- Soultaker
P.S. By the way have you had time to try the rabbit (rascally) yet?

Farmer boB -- Looks like you are going to have to go back to milking. -- Soultaker

Lady Elysian -- You can contact me at anytime. The games go on for hours and hours.
I can use the break. -- Soultaker

Death Stud -- Best of luck in the upcoming TOGS. -- Soultaker (slowly rubbing all the
scars on his back)

Manager -- Are you going to be here for the TOGS using your own name or are you
trying to hide behind the crazy guy? -- Soultaker

The Mordanti Olympics, having been gone for six years, have returned to the Mordanti
Alliance, sponsored by Amicitia Primoris. Teams have competed against each other for
recognition and notoriety four times in the past. It is far past time for the fifth
Mordanti Olympics to be held. The Mordanti Olympics shall be held in the Mordant
arena (DM-1) from May 1st (T544) through Oct 30 (T557). There will be a
'registration period' lasting until T543, where teams will be allowed to register by
