I am Duelmaster. I am The Boss. I run things in this godforsaken fonzhole and
rathole.
The Avenging Scrod, perhaps you (or your manager) should have "shut up" in the
last D.M. Column. You looked rather silly, but normal, calling me out and
exacerbating the simplicity of your easy victory. How sweet. I kicked your loud-
mouthed, fonz-freaking, non-white butterooski!
And since I am The Boss, I say "You're Fired!"

SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! 4000 BLOWS? Who? WILD OATS is the top team these days, buddies!
Those betting on HEDONISTS lost their shirt, as HEDONISTS lost their fighting
abilities: 0-0-0. GOIN' TUBIN' had cause to celebrate, after VAS DEFERENS got 18
points by beating TIGER TY. ZIGGERZAG certainly had a baffled expression on his
face, after losing to BURNT OFFERINGS and losing 15 points in the process! WHITE
WITCH found out being ARADI's Duelmaster isn't all nuts and berries, receiving 4
challenges! The arena was more crowded than usual this time, as RICKY J faced
ARADI's Duelmaster. Now I can't insult RICKY J, as he has gloriously dueled to the
top. Oh great new Duelmaster!!! (Stop me if I lay it on too thick) Word has it one
team in ARADI is using psychics to predict wins. They lead a charmed life!
And how sociable are ARADI's warriors? Come, let us see. Like the noble eagle
soaring amongst the mountaintops, so stand the warriors of 4000 BLOWS, alone and
unchallenged. As a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of WILD OATS, so did
that sorry team shy from 4000 BLOWS
Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! Ask not a
spymaster for counsel, for he will pontificate long after you have fallen into an
unconscious stupor.

Our turn envelope burst open in the post office (or so I'm told, I wasn't there), and
a lot of turns fell out. Some--not all--of the fights and other pages showed up at
the guildhouse about five days later. If there's something missing from our

Hmm, okay, today's initiating sentence is "The battle begins amid the crowd's
approval." Every fight starts with that line, at least, every one of ours. Probably
be something different next time. While I have to admit that I'd rather begin amid
the crowd's approval than amid a slashing hailstorm or amid a barrage of rocks and
rotten fish from the crowd (dogs have no use for rocks and rotten fish, fish aren't
even good to roll on), still, what about having the fight begin amid a reverent hush
