"It's a dark and stormy night," Jill Rustle noted anxiously. She glanced around
to make sure she could get under the bed in a hurry. "I don't like storms. Thunder,
you know, it hurts my ears."
Kotter bristled. "No thunder is going to hurt ME." Lightning flashed and
thunder cracked right overhead. He jumped and barked.
"I don't understand why we're having a storm." Jill pushed her nose out from
under the bed; she had broken her own record in diving into this shelter. "It isn't
the right TIME for storms, is it?"
Garm shrugged and stretched. Being officially retired, he had been enjoying a
nap by the fire. "Is there a time for storms? What you have to understand is that
this is Aradi. Things don't have to make sense."
"Well, couldn't they make sense without a storm?"
"Not if this was the handiest spotlight header. Maybe if the arena gets busy,
people who write spotlights--naming no names--will try harder for coherence. But
maybe not. It's Aradi, and it's people. Humans just don't think like us Dogs."
"It's because their noses don't work," Slippers said. "They just don't get the
whole bouquet of life."

Hail and well met warriors of ARADI! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. DONALD caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as it skillfully bested SLIPPERS and was awarded 22 points in
recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, DONALD put down SLIPPERS,
causing him to lose 14 points of recognition in the process. Our Duelmaster has
lost, folks, lost to KHALHUMS DWARF, BUT CATIPILLAR is still the Duelmaster because
he has the most recognition points! Would you believe that over half of the old
women in ARADI seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city ARADI.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in ARADI. Nice atmosphere you have here! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of
