"This is totally unfair, you know," Wallis Yent said. He handed his teammate
Barlo another pair of socks.
"It's life," Barlo said. "Get over it. I was primed to graduate, you weren't."
He fitted the socks into a corner of his pack. On a winter's journey, you couldn't
have too many warm, dry socks along. Well, okay, you probably could if they took up
space needed for other stuff, like food and matches, but still. He was Aruaki by
blood, and everyone knew cats liked their comfort, and dry feet ranked high.
     "But--"
"I'm tired of that complaint, Wallis. Think of something else to talk about."
There was a long, tense moment, and then Yent shrugged. Barlo relaxed a little.
Sometimes elves were just too damned touchy.
"You going to the Isle by way of Malcorn Pass?" Yent asked.
Damn. One tricky topic after another. But it wasn't in him to lie to a
teammate. "I'm not going to the Isle, Wallis. What'd be the point? I'm nothing
special, and the Isle is full of gladiators who are really good at it."
"Not GOING? But the honor--the Grey Witch's promises--the duty to defend
Alastari-- How can you not go?"
"It's easy. I'll just head south instead of southeast. Head for the sun, the
warmth... maybe Debby Tonte has some good ideas, eh?" He closed the flap on his pack
and buckled it securely. "I'm thinking... Ratan, maybe. See where my ancestors came
from."
     "The Ratani don't like werecats."
"I've never changed, so I'm probably not one. And even if I could change, I
wouldn't do it there. I'm not a total idiot."
     "That's debatable."

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

I salute Hugh Grant. It was a good thing he did, losing on his last fight.
That allowed me to take the title the RIGHT way, on a win. Mind you, if the only way
I could have gotten it was by default, I would have TAKEN it that way, but a win is
better.

                                    Wallis Yent

                                      SPY REPORT

Much has changed in JURINE since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. What's with DAVID TENNANT?
He actually beat MIDDLE WAY 16's VONNER WESS, and walked away with 14 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at MIDDLE WAY 16. VONNER WESS lost 6 points to DAVID
TENNANT. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe VONNER WESS will provide more easy
wins... I'm sure JURINE is excited about PETER DAVISON, the new Duelmaster from
DOCTORS. (remember?) But when you've seen as many as I have... Wouldn't it be nice
to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of
convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover stupor. You
young rapscallions, take note!
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. The end
of another Spyreport! That's cause for celebration in my book! Remember--a good
fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

All -- I am getting together as many Duelmaster players as possible to play in a game
of Hyborian War as a change of pace. We already have 17 players that are interested
and we are trying to get as many as possible involved before I submit the list to
RSI. I am collecting the names and top 3 kingdoms that the players are interested in
and submitting it myself so we can all play in the same game. If you are interested
