                             Notes from the arena champ.

Toot Toot! I just love the sound of my whistle. Maybe that's my ticket to success
on the Isle. I bet many of those warriors haven't heard the sound for years! Of
course, I gotta get there, first.

As far as Valamantis goes, last turn was pretty sad. Not for our stable, but if you
didn't fight one of us, you fought a stand by. We were fortunate that we got to
fight real warriors. We were even more fortunate to win both fights.

Yes, it looks as though Valamantis is having troubles. I heard a rumor (unconfirmed)
that the commission has pulled their entire staff out except for a single
representative to keep the arena alive. And Assur is throwing a fit because Nick's
Middle Way stable isn't even listed in the team rankings.

My break is over and I've gotta make another run. Until next time, I'm your favorite

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly VALAMANTIS games. DIED caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested ALTA CHESS and was awarded 14 points
in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, DIED put down ALTA CHESS,
causing her to lose 5 points of recognition in the process. The city has turned out
in honor of BET OR NOT DIE, for with his arena victory he may now lay claim to the
highest position in the city! Informants "close" to the city champion have told me
that he never fights without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. Loose talk at the arena has
reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after EB
GOLLU. Watch your back!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till we meet
again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a
lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Celestial Fury -- Assur says 8-0 is an elite mark. 7-0 is awesome, but getting to 8-
0 is a rare thing. Looks like I rained on your parade! -- Bus

Alta Chess -- No offense taken. Assur believes in the Delarquan way and if exhaust
fumes help me win, I'm gonna spurt 'em out! -- Bus

Train -- Cheese, you're the only managed warrior we fought! How come *I* had to get
the "honor" of it? Why couldn't Alta do it, since she likes you so much? -- Chip

And three-one against the standbys....

Ambitious Guard -- Whoever you are behind that full helm. What are you hiding,
anyway? Scars? A secret identity? I WILL find out who you are, you know. I don't
appreciate what you did to my social life, and I want to return the favor. In an
alley. -- Eb Gollu the terminally reckless (I am, after all, a Shew)

Hmm, the Commission SAYS the Fratsfa Slave is a Shagornan elf, which seems
contradictory. The Shagornans are southerners, after all, and the elves of Fratsfa
are Araoi. But I have done a careful study, and the truth is now revealed. This is
a Fratsfan, all right, at least mostly. Probably a Fratsfan mother, probably even an
Araoi. But a Shagornan father. After all, there are other slaves in the Delarquan
Federation. -- Doc Felle

Practically all the standbys seem to be Fratsfan, or Shagornan. The Captured Orc is
a Shagornan elf. And seriously ticked about it, too. I don't think he likes being
forced to dress up in an "orc mask." I bet he doesn't like those fake fangs. -- Alta
Chess, who is not thrilled with the fake fangs either

The arenamistress tells me that the Dangerous Criminal is a Fratsfan slave who
escaped and took to a life of crime out of revenge. It doesn't seem to have done him
much good. -- Bensi Durn

Assur -- (reeling back) No! When the fans start dancing, we're in serious trouble!
I blame the mimes. -- Alta Chess the very worried

Bus -- I knew this day would come and I dreaded it. You stole my Thunder. How am I
supposed to be tough with just lightning. -- Fury
P.S. That thing got a HEMI?!

Assur -- You still in Talcama? When's the next B.R. -- Buddy Lee

Nick -- I'm trying to get some more guys to this arena. They're Rookies also, but
unlike me, they will be running only once in a while. Better than nothing right?
And how do you have fun on maintenance. -- Buddy Lee

Alta -- Most popular huh? I wonder what you been up to. -- Fury

Bensi -- (French?) Anyway your shell is hard to crack but I need the attack skills.
Watch for me. I hope you can learn better this time (me too), even if I lose. But
don't hit me okay. I get angry. -- Fury

Train -- Next time tell Holly if she wants the throne she must close her legs. I
thought I smelled something "fishy" when she was D.M. and didn't defend it. I always
thought when you're D.M. you defend it. -- Fury

                                FACE-TO-FACE XXXIV

Our next Winter Face-to-Face will be held on Martin Luther King weekend, Friday
through Sunday, 14-16 January 2005, at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona (4400 S
Rural Rd--this is the same hotel as last year). Room rates are $139.00 per night,
1-4 occupancy, which includes breakfast. The rooms are blocked. The reservations
number is 480-897-7444; tell them you're with the "Reality Simulations Face to Face
Convention" block. Our room block will be released in mid-December, so please make
sure you reserve your room before then!
Room rates include a full cooked-to-order breakfast and a complimentary two-hour
manager's reception. There is a free shuttle to the airport, as well as free parking.
The hotel is located down the freeway in Tempe. All rooms have high speed internet
(for an extra charge). There is a fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool, and of course a
bar and Mexican restaurant inside the hotel. And there's Denny's right across the
street. Look for transportation info in the tournament information sheet.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
November/early December.
If you haven't been to a Face-to-Face before, you're overdue. If you have,
you'll be back. Don't miss this one, it'll be a blast! See you there!
