Harbortown:

"Synthia!" Killjoy stood in the doorway of the warehouse and yelled into the
dark space. She could see that it was big, and there were boxes, bales, and barrels
stacked walls and ranges of hills in the darkness. She couldn't see anyone moving,
or hear anything but the echoes of her own voice. "Synthia!" she called again,
louder.
Man-O-War and Sitha were right behind her, Silver Bullet and Screwdriver behind
them. "Are you sure we have the right place?" Man-O-War asked.
Killjoy went in, walking down one aisle after another, the others on her heels.
"He said warehouse forty-two," Bullet confirmed. "This is it." He peered into
the tangle of beams overhead but saw nothing unusual. He looked at the floor, then
studied the crates beside them.
Killjoy moved faster, desperate to find her friend.
"Joy." Bullet's voice stopped her and she looked back. "Blood here."
She hurried over to him and looked where he pointed down a side-path through the
crates.
"Probably his, not hers," Screwdriver said, referring to the man who had brought
the warning at the cost of his life. There was blood on the floor, a lot of it,
smeared toward the doorway. It showed the mark of a man's large hand.
In the other direction, boxes had been tumbled, broken, and crushed. There was
a little blood, but not much. "They must have taken her," Screwdriver said after a
moment's study.
"But why would they take her? Why not just kill her like...." Bullet waved
toward the larger pool of blood.
"She must have seen something she should not have," Killjoy said slowly. "And
you can't kill a lord protector... not for long, anyway." Her voice trailed off.
"Where could they have taken her?" Screwdriver asked. He turned in place to
look around the warehouse.
"First, we need to find out who," Man-O-War said. "That may lead us to where."

Under the city:

Below Dal Shang was a maze that included natural caves and man-made tunnels.
Parts of it served as storm drains for the city. Parts of the twisting, turning
passages were used by the inevitable smugglers. Other parts were home to rats,
snakes, and other vermin.
Not so long ago, another vile creature had made it his home.
"Good morning." The voice of Hobgoblin woke Synthia, its demonic overtones
chilled her spirit.
She rolled over, hampered by chains that were clamped around her wrists and
ankles. The chains stretched out to two stout posts, each six feet high, standing
six feet apart. There were eye-bolts at the top and bottom of each post for the
chains to pass through and away to a wheel at the far side of the room. When the
chains were drawn tight by the wheel, she would be forced to stand up, arms and legs
spread wide.
Hobgoblin walked over and tossed down a bowl of something mushy. Some of it
sloshed out and onto her, cold and greasy. She lay unmoving, unresponding. "Eat
your food," he growled. "You will need your strength."
Synthia picked up the bowl and looked at it for a moment. Then she threw it at
him.
Hobgoblin smiled. "Very well." He crossed to the wheel and began to turn it.
The chains scraped across the floor and tightened dragging her to her feet until she
was firmly locked into place. Hobgoblin walked a complete circle around her,
inspecting his work.
"I'm going to ask you questions," he said. "And you will answer. Do you
understand?" He unsheathed his dagger and rubbed the flat of it across her face.
She tried to pull away, but there was no slack in the chains at all.
"How did you find me?" He leaned in close, glaring into her eyes.
     She said nothing.
Hobgoblin frowned. "Why were you in that warehouse?"
     Still she said nothing.
Hobgoblin drew back his hand and smacked her across the face. Her head jerked
back a little, and blood trickled from a split lip. "You will learn, lord protector.
When I ask questions, you answer." He ran the tip of his dagger down the front of
her shirt, then backup up, cutting the fabric. He removed all of her clothing except
for her underclothes and then reached for a whip that was hanging on the wall above
the wheel. "Soon you will learn to obey," he said, and cracked the whip in the air.

Til Death Do Us Part guildhouse:

Octavia tiptoed down the hall and slipped into a room. The room belonged to
Triss, a friend of the Til Death Do Us Part team.
"There's got to be something here, some proof," she muttered. She looked under
the bed and under the dresser. She had just opened the closet door when she heard
footsteps in the hall outside. Panicking, she jumped into the closet and hid.
Triss opened the door and walked in, frowning just a little. Not long ago,
several members of the team had run out the door, but she didn't know. They hadn't
trusted her enough to tell her... or maybe her skills, such as she had, were of no
use, or.... No, she wasn't going to brood about it. Whatever was going on was
surely none of her business. She sighed. It was late, time for bed. She sighed
again, changed into her nightclothes and climbed into bed. Leaned over to blow out
her candle. She needed to sleep, she could worry in the morning, if there turned out
to be a reason for worrying.
Octavia sat on the floor inside Triss's closet, shaking her head. "I can't
believe I'm stuck in here!" she mumbled to herself.

Harbortown:

"The owner of that warehouse was reported missing a few weeks ago," the chief of
the Harbortown Guard said to Killjoy. "No bodies have been found to indicate foul
play."
"Well, my friend was here, and now she is missing, too. That sounds like foul
play to me," Killjoy said. She was annoyed with the Guardsman and not trying to hide
it. Okay, she was annoyed with the situation, but this plodding Guardsman was not
helping any.
"How long has she been missing?" he asked.
     "A few hours."
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but you can't report an adult missing after only a few
hours."
"What about the blood?" Silver Bullet stepped closer to the Guard. "And the
dead man at my bar?"
"Rest assured that we will investigate everything. If your friend is in Dal
Shang, we will find her." The Guardsman didn't sound any more patient than Killjoy,
but he seemed to be trying a little harder to fake it. Silver Bullet felt like
hitting him. "Now, I must get back to work."
Killjoy might have posed for a Portrait of a Very Angry Woman. She turned on
her heel and walked back to her friends, muttering under her breath. Cursing under
her breath, from the sound of it. "Let's go back to the guildhouse," she said.
"Maybe Synthia will show up there." She looked over her shoulder at the warehouse
once more. "But I'm not going to sit back and do nothing, if she isn't there."

Under the city:

The chains loosened as Hobgoblin turned the wheel. Slowly, Synthia's body
folded down onto the ground. Her eyes were red and her cheeks wet from her tears.
When she reached the floor, she rolled onto her side and pulled her legs up to her
chest. Red welts crisscrossed her back.
Hobgoblin threw a blanket on top of her. "Get some sleep," he said. "You and
me have a big day tomorrow." He laughed and walked out of the chamber.
Synthia lay without moving for hours. Her mind was very nearly a blank. A rat
crept out of some corner, came closer, sniffing the air, until it reached her and her
spilled dinner. She watched it eat some of the mush and then scurry away.
She had never felt pain like this before, and she never wanted to again.

Til Death Do Us Part guildhouse:

Octavia opened the closet door no more than a finger's width and peered out.
Triss was sleeping. Good. She slipped out into the room and tiptoed across the
floor. It was a relief to reach the door to the hall, and she opened it... with a
creak. A loud creak. Damn.
     Triss stirred and blinked. "Octavia?"
"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Octavia prayed that would work. She did NOT want
to explain herself right now.
"It's okay. Can I help you?"
"Yes... I just couldn't sleep. Can we talk?" She was proud of herself for that
quick thinking.
"Of course we can." Triss sat up and lit the candle by her bed. "What do you
want to talk about?"
     "How did you meet Killjoy?"
"It's a long story. Are you up to it?" Triss asked, smiling a little.
Octavia smiled back and prepared to listen to Triss's story.

                                      SPY REPORT

Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well
fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for DAL SHANG. Uncool, KILLER TUNES. I mean
0-0-0 is bad. Will they will be allowed to fight? I say use 'em for training
practice! TIL DEATH DO US PART like really fought hard to move up to 3rd from 6th.
Way to go! Cut this out and put it in your scrapbooks, STUMBLIN' DRUNK! 'Cause they
got 4-0-0 and moved up to 4th! MVP award for CHIANA? TIL DEATH DO US PART's proud
of her after beating LISSANE TYL DRU and getting 17 points. Talk about yer big time
losers! LISSANE TYL DRU got smashed by CHIANA, and lost 14 points! The Duelmaster
isn't going to stop just cause he's Number One! GOBARL knows this. He was
challenged by the Duelmaster. This Duelmaster is like something else! UGLY DUCKING
stopped GOBARL dead in his tracks! I hear the top team insists all their warriors
get nine hours sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos.
AAARRGH!!! I HATE SPYREPORTING!!! Sorry. I just had to say it. Can REFUGEES'
SIGBAN be more popular than me? He was challenged the most, but is that really the
same?
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. What if they had a fight and nobody showed
up? I'd be out of a job, that's what!!!
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I gotta leave. DAL SHANG is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much!
Remember you guys, ease up sometimes! Chill out! Later, Debby Tonte

I am back in the arena and thinking back to those days in 1984 where I was a
novice and clueless manager.
Now, 22 years later it looks like I am an ancient and once again clueless
manager.
I am looking to recover some old warriors. Since none of them are Aimed Blows,
they are no threat to win anything. I just want to see how they turned out.

It is obvious that the Dark Knights wish to be shown the light. Allow me to step
forward and blind them with truth. YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!! The Dark Knights are so
afraid of the light that they hide behind their black armor and empty threats. It is
too bad they are unwilling to actually FIGHT us! I guess our natural light is too
bright for you all to face! Fear us, for we are here! -- Gemini Goldphoenix,

without having gone above the Adepts bracket at any time...including

Bloodfeuds:
     a. Bloodfeuds count for all four (4) turns. However, the same warrior may not
be used all four turns. 4 turns means 4 separate warriors. A penalty of

Special Note: A downchallenge is considered from a higher bracket to a lower
