It was an old habit. Never knew what might happen, and it was best to have a good knowledge of your surroundings. All in all, everything appeared 'ship-shape' and in order. Both captain and crew must have been "old salts." Upon reaching the Captain's Quarters, we were ushered in by a man who appeared more a sailor than the leader of the men about. He was swarthy of skin, wrinkled from sun and inclement weather alike, with a scarf of red cloth wrapped about his head and only a pair of leggings on his body to keep him from being completely naked. He was also tall and lanky with muscles that appeared like ropes. While he might appear the common sailor, when he began speaking, it was with the air of a man in authority and one not used to having orders questioned or receiving any sass. "Sir Chester arranged for you and five companions to sail with me," he informed me. "Your destination is known only to me. No one else on this barge is privy to it. In three days time, I will answer all you ask of me. For now, be patient, silent, and trust me. Or else jump ship now and leave in peace. For if you break this oath, I'll toss you overboard as quick as you please. Is that understood and agreed?" "Aye, Captain," I replied none-too-hesitantly for I did not wish to anger this man. "We receive your hospitality and thank your good graces for it." "Good," he grunted in satisfaction, "now be off to the galley and have yourself something to eat. Your men have clothing for you and a tub of water is in your quarters to clean yourself up. You look worse than a goblin tied at an orc's fest." Having said this, he guided us to the door, and we departed. Hugues showed me to the galley as if he'd been aboard this tub before. As we reached our destination, I expectantly saw that those about the table were dressed in similar attire. All having worn the white mantle with the red cross. This pleased me as these men were known to me and trusted without hesitation. Each not only dressed alike, but had the same blonde hair and blue eyes. Yet, only two were related by blood. These two were Hugues and Conan. The others called themselves brothers because of a common belief and life. I sat amongst them and each pressed a morsel of food in my direction. I suppose they were shocked to see me in such a state. Normally, clean and well-dressed, and jovial on most occasions. Now, I sat dirty, disheveled, and shrunken. And so, I ate heartily and drank until I was near to bursting and close to being drunk. Yet, I stopped in order to keep my wits about me. There was much to talk about and figure out amongst us six. Being inebriated would do none aught but ill. Jaque de Molay, the more worldly of the five, began to ask the questions that appeared to be on the minds of all. "What scrape did you need rescue from this time?" he asked with seemingly accurate knowledge of my character. "Well," I informed him and all sitting at the table, "it seems these days that it is not meet for a man to take pity of a poor, lonely damsel." "I can only imagine the lonely damsel!" Rex Mundi piped in jovially. "Probably some rich man's wife." "Nay, not his wife. His daughter!" I retorted laughing at his joke. "Well, that should teach you for tainting damsels," Conan said matter-of-factly and seeming to not get the joke. For he was not one to take such things lightly. Hugues remained quiet and subdued during the ensuing banter. From my glances, he appeared deep in thought. Which, by the way, was often. It was not that he did not enjoy life, but rather liked to weigh things out before jumping in head-first. As was usually my own custom and failure. After a while, Hugues interrupted. "Listen, my Brothers," Hugues began to speak eloquently and I knew he'd reached whatever decision had been plaguing him, "we know not where we are heading, but something on a grand scale is about to happen. We needs to be about our wits and our swords loose in their scabbards. Otherwise, we may be caught unawares. I think we should rest, sober ourselves and be prepared for ought that befalls us." "I agree," Conan added emphatically. Until now, Sir Lancelot had partaken in the laughter, yet did not say much. Yet, I also knew that he would eventually have his say. And, as a True Knight, it would be well spoken and kingly. As well as, kindly. "I also agree with you Sword-Brother, yet let us find out the remainder of the story before retiring," Sir Lancelot spoke with an unseemly twinkle in his eye. "Hear! Hear!" exclaimed Mundi. And, I believe at that very moment he'd had more than his fair share of drink. I told the Knights what had happened and spared not a detail. I told them in detail, hoping to embarrass them into leaving me be, all of the noble's daughter, my arrest, conviction, and the sentence to be hanged. Conan interrupted me. "Oh, the criminality of such evil! Had you been convicted and hanged for the sins you had committed, that would have been a horse of a different color. Yet, the trumped up charges should not go unavenged." "I could see the sense in that!" he finished. "Truer words never spoken," Jaque piped in. "Finish the tale," Rex said. He had been listening with rapt attention. That of a child listening to a ghost story by the fireside. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===DELARQUAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 1 MORDANT (turn 482): ABYSSINIAN of CAT'S MEOW (Poison Ivy, mgr.) DM 72 DRAGONHEAD (turn 139): SIR LANCELOT of KNIGHTS TEMPLAR (Baphomet, mgr.) SPY REPORT Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the clash and bustle of the weekly DRAGONHEAD games. There were bitter words at NIGHTMARE LOGIC's guildhouse after a 0-0-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 12th. Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how this week ANCIENT KNIGHTS went 3-2-0 to move up 8 in the rankings. A new guild, EPOCHOLYPSE, entered DRAGONHEAD with a clash this turn, showing off a 5-0-0 record. Indeed, a worthy addition to the city guilds. ELGINAWA caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and was awarded 21 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, ABBERAN put down RABID RABBIT, causing him to lose 3 points of recognition in the process. Due to hers absence and inability to defend the throne, CONSTANTINE has lost the title of Duelmaster. The city has turned out in honor of 2 PHAT, for with his arena victory he may now lay claim to the highest position in the city! Heed this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7! I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. FREELANCERS is feared. This much I can say. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of FAVORITE THINGS last week. Busy avoiding FREELANCERS? Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after ENGLISH LIT. Watch your back! As a gladiator gets older, the icy grip of fear lays hold of hers heart. True, EARLY MORNING? Who could miss your "brave" challenge of CALIBAN? Few would not have guessed the outcome of the bout as CALIBAN was bested by EARLY MORNING. Is this what passes for courage in DRAGONHEAD? A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that 2 PHAT TOO posted a challenge against the more highly recognized SIR LANCELOT. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand 2 PHAT TOO overcame SIR LANCELOT. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel. Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more than its fair share of red in recent times. I must report the passing of THE BAKER, veteran of many duels. 11-12-1 final record His was not illustrious--but death plays no favorites. This week's duel proved deadly to THE BAKER as he fell to the more renowned warrior, 2 PHAT. How will FEARSOME LEGENDS find revenge? Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this! If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times already in DRAGONHEAD. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME 2 PHAT 5064 13 3 1 98 VERMIN (165) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -CONSTANTINE 5361 11 3 1 115 AGELESS WONDER (584) -SOROKAN 5416 16 5 0 108 CRIMSON KILLERS (587) -CATER PILLAR 2304 10 0 2 104 VERMIN (165) 2 PHAT TOO 5063 12 7 1 97 VERMIN (165) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -SNIVELL 9 5382 11 8 0 69 SNIVELLS (585) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -BLAZE REGICIDE 1861 9 10 0 63 JUSTICE OF STEEL (173) REX MUNDI 4999 11 5 1 60 KNIGHTS TEMPLAR (542) -VENTALEN 5288 14 6 1 59 FREELANCERS (576) EAGLE KEYS 4585 8 14 0 58 ANCIENT KNIGHTS (507) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -WILLDRAS 5282 9 1 0 54 FREELANCERS (576) LORD EARL GREY 4546 9 10 1 52 FEARSOME LEGENDS (505) CYOLIS 5311 7 1 1 49 ANCIENT KNIGHTS (507) -HAFGAN 5355 8 6 1 48 AGELESS WONDER (584) -DUNAUT 5367 8 6 0 48 AGELESS WONDER (584) -ATOMIC PUNK 2 5344 5 5 0 46 ROCKERS OF RAGE (583) -E. I am not in fear of losing my life, winning or losing a fight, that's the chance you take every time you walk onto the sands. Soon, I'll do battle with you. Bloody Sands. -- Asmo Dius, TCB 13 November 2003 Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. -- Shocking Toad, The Manager 13 November 2003 All -- This is to announce that I am no longer a member of the Vendetta Cartel Alliance. The following warriors have traveled to ADVANCED DUELMASTERS after fighting this turn: SIR LANCELOT (72-4997) KNIGHTS TEMPLAR (542) TOURNEY FREEZE CHANGE -- ADVANCE NOTICE Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes. First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes. Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks before the tournament. In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered. The new tourney classes will be as follows: DM Tourney Classes ADM Tourney Classes ====================== ====================== 0 FE: Rookies Freshmen 1-4 FE: Apprentices ADM 5-10 FE: Initiates Eligibles 11-20 FE: Adepts ---induction--- 21-30 FE: Champions Contenders 31+ FE: Challengers Primus All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the Freshmen class. The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this will be published in the newsletters for those arenas. If you have any questions about the above changes, please contact Customer Service. Good luck in your games. -- Green Eyes and the RSI staff
