                                       Part IV

I took notice of rigging, decking, crew, and assorted cargo. It was an old
habit. Never knew what might happen, and it was best to have a good knowledge of
your surroundings. All in all, everything appeared 'ship-shape' and in order. Both
captain and crew must have been "old salts."
Upon reaching the Captain's Quarters, we were ushered in by a man who appeared
more a sailor than the leader of the men about. He was swarthy of skin, wrinkled
from sun and inclement weather alike, with a scarf of red cloth wrapped about his
head and only a pair of leggings on his body to keep him from being completely naked.
He was also tall and lanky with muscles that appeared like ropes.
While he might appear the common sailor, when he began speaking, it was with the
air of a man in authority and one not used to having orders questioned or receiving
any sass.
"Sir Chester arranged for you and five companions to sail with me," he informed
me. "Your destination is known only to me. No one else on this barge is privy to
it. In three days time, I will answer all you ask of me. For now, be patient,
silent, and trust me. Or else jump ship now and leave in peace. For if you break
this oath, I'll toss you overboard as quick as you please. Is that understood and
"Aye, Captain," I replied none-too-hesitantly for I did not wish to anger this
man. "We receive your hospitality and thank your good graces for it."
"Good," he grunted in satisfaction, "now be off to the galley and have yourself
something to eat. Your men have clothing for you and a tub of water is in your
quarters to clean yourself up. You look worse than a goblin tied at an orc's fest."
Having said this, he guided us to the door, and we departed.
Hugues showed me to the galley as if he'd been aboard this tub before. As we
reached our destination, I expectantly saw that those about the table were dressed in
similar attire. All having worn the white mantle with the red cross. This pleased
me as these men were known to me and trusted without hesitation. Each not only
dressed alike, but had the same blonde hair and blue eyes. Yet, only two were
related by blood. These two were Hugues and Conan. The others called themselves
brothers because of a common belief and life.
I sat amongst them and each pressed a morsel of food in my direction. I suppose
they were shocked to see me in such a state. Normally, clean and well-dressed, and
jovial on most occasions. Now, I sat dirty, disheveled, and shrunken. And so, I ate
heartily and drank until I was near to bursting and close to being drunk. Yet, I
stopped in order to keep my wits about me. There was much to talk about and figure
out amongst us six. Being inebriated would do none aught but ill.
Jaque de Molay, the more worldly of the five, began to ask the questions that
appeared to be on the minds of all.
"What scrape did you need rescue from this time?" he asked with seemingly
accurate knowledge of my character.
"Well," I informed him and all sitting at the table, "it seems these days that
it is not meet for a man to take pity of a poor, lonely damsel."
"I can only imagine the lonely damsel!" Rex Mundi piped in jovially. "Probably
some rich man's wife."
"Nay, not his wife. His daughter!" I retorted laughing at his joke.
"Well, that should teach you for tainting damsels," Conan said matter-of-factly
and seeming to not get the joke. For he was not one to take such things lightly.
Hugues remained quiet and subdued during the ensuing banter. From my glances,
he appeared deep in thought. Which, by the way, was often. It was not that he did
not enjoy life, but rather liked to weigh things out before jumping in head-first.
As was usually my own custom and failure.
After a while, Hugues interrupted. "Listen, my Brothers," Hugues began to speak
eloquently and I knew he'd reached whatever decision had been plaguing him, "we know
not where we are heading, but something on a grand scale is about to happen. We
needs to be about our wits and our swords loose in their scabbards. Otherwise, we
may be caught unawares. I think we should rest, sober ourselves and be prepared for
ought that befalls us."
     "I agree," Conan added emphatically.
Until now, Sir Lancelot had partaken in the laughter, yet did not say much.
Yet, I also knew that he would eventually have his say. And, as a True Knight, it
would be well spoken and kingly. As well as, kindly.
"I also agree with you Sword-Brother, yet let us find out the remainder of the
story before retiring," Sir Lancelot spoke with an unseemly twinkle in his eye.
"Hear! Hear!" exclaimed Mundi. And, I believe at that very moment he'd had
more than his fair share of drink.
I told the Knights what had happened and spared not a detail. I told them in
detail, hoping to embarrass them into leaving me be, all of the noble's daughter, my
arrest, conviction, and the sentence to be hanged.
Conan interrupted me. "Oh, the criminality of such evil! Had you been
convicted and hanged for the sins you had committed, that would have been a horse of
a different color. Yet, the trumped up charges should not go unavenged."
"I could see the sense in that!" he finished.
"Truer words never spoken," Jaque piped in.
"Finish the tale," Rex said. He had been listening with rapt attention. That
of a child listening to a ghost story by the fireside.

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly DRAGONHEAD games. There were bitter words at
NIGHTMARE LOGIC's guildhouse after a 0-0-0 showing this week which dropped the stable
into 12th. Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the
corner! Witness how this week ANCIENT KNIGHTS went 3-2-0 to move up 8 in the
rankings. A new guild, EPOCHOLYPSE, entered DRAGONHEAD with a clash this turn,
showing off a 5-0-0 record. Indeed, a worthy addition to the city guilds. ELGINAWA
caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested
EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and was awarded 21 points in recognition. In one of the week's
more notable duels, ABBERAN put down RABID RABBIT, causing him to lose 3 points of
recognition in the process. Due to hers absence and inability to defend the throne,
CONSTANTINE has lost the title of Duelmaster. The city has turned out in honor of 2
PHAT, for with his arena victory he may now lay claim to the highest position in the
city! Heed this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the
whole city shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. I saw one fighter that warriors
avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. FREELANCERS is feared. This much
I can say. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find
any of FAVORITE THINGS last week. Busy avoiding FREELANCERS? Loose talk at the
arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are
after ENGLISH LIT. Watch your back! As a gladiator gets older, the icy grip of fear
lays hold of hers heart. True, EARLY MORNING? Who could miss your "brave" challenge
of CALIBAN? Few would not have guessed the outcome of the bout as CALIBAN was bested
by EARLY MORNING. Is this what passes for courage in DRAGONHEAD? A match that
raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that 2 PHAT TOO posted a
challenge against the more highly recognized SIR LANCELOT. The results, you ask?
Well, the firebrand 2 PHAT TOO overcame SIR LANCELOT. Remember warriors, this is the
discipline of steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. I must report the passing of THE BAKER,
veteran of many duels. 11-12-1 final record His was not illustrious--but death plays
no favorites. This week's duel proved deadly to THE BAKER as he fell to the more
renowned warrior, 2 PHAT. How will FEARSOME LEGENDS find revenge? Fate is a fickle
mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the
victorious. Remember this!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in DRAGONHEAD. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I
keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari
await me! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a
maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

The Baker -- Actually, that's not even my favorite weapon, tactic, or rhythm.
Although the crits were sweet to see! Thank you for the win and insuring my invite
to The Isle. -- Lord Protector Sir Lancelot

All -- This is my VERY FIRST ADM warrior! Three years in the making! I am extremely
proud of Lancelot, although he is nothing more than mediocre. (11(1)-10-12-14-15-12-
11; +2 Ini, +1 Dec) Yet, I grew to love both his style (SL) and this warrior in
particular. While not that good, he will fight in ADM anyway. Hope to see you all
there. -- Baphomet (Lancelot has NO! tourney experience!)
P.S. For the remaining RAGE Alliance members...Lancelot survived your "hit" and also
held the DM spot another 4 turns!!!

Lord Earl Grey -- Amazing. Simply amazing! -- A.J. Roj

Caliban -- These are a few of my favorite things. -- Early Morning

Azis -- I was not able to keep up the level of action. I just plain run out of....
-- Money

Sentinel-1 -- Soultaker told me some things about you. Could they possibly be true?
-- Pistachio (A nut)

Ba Boom? I know a vah voom, cuz that's what I think of Brittney Snow! -- American

Hi, Baphomet -- What do you mean by a "true Delarquan"? -- Favorite Things

Favorite Things -- Happy to be of service. -- Caliban

Early Morning -- I guess that makes up for your ruined dreams. -- Caliban

Lancelot -- Congrats on your invite. It is good to see you get your chance. -- Willy

Baphomet -- Good to see you back. I will be back after the tourney sometime. You
and me will have our chance soon. Congrats on getting your boy out of here. Maybe
Big-Red and Lancelot will meet in ADM. -- Unforgiven

2 Phat -- I guess you will get your D.M. this time. You tried. But I was better
this time. Good fight though, really. I mean it. -- Constantine

Tiny Turk -- Did you like what I did? I did. It don't matter. I will talk smack
till I die. And it won't be much longer at all. -- Soon To DA You are a good

2-Phat Too -- I don't like you. You hurt me. But that's okay. You owed me that. --
Crazy Train

All -- Welcome Darryl, my latest member to my stable. He will be coming soon. His
demise is in his own hands. -- Belyn, mgr. Ageless Wonder

Consentine -- It's funny that you're the Duelmaster. It is said that, you were heard
saying that you wanted to challenge some of the other gladiators, but you didn't
think you had the Ini. to outjump anyone. If you said this then you better go back
and do some MORE reading and find out where your "outjumping" ability comes from. I
know as well as you do that the real problem lies with your manager. Talks all that
jazz, but, when it comes to backing up this talk...well you know how it is. Don't
you worry your pretty little head...I will be fighting soon and will challenge you
and anyone in this arena without any fear. I am not in fear of losing my life,
winning or losing a fight, that's the chance you take every time you walk onto the
sands. Soon, I'll do battle with you. Keep your head up and try to continue to be
the Duelmaster of Dragonhead. -- Good luck...Bandit of (HOG WARS)

Baphomet -- Very good to see you have re-started one of your stables. It has been
sometime since you were seen in town along with myself. I should be fighting soon...
if things work out...I will join you and do battle with your gladiators...it's been
many a moons since my boys have seen any action. They may be rusty? I did send some
gladiators to the mail in tourney. Hope I can join all of you soon. Good luck. --
Sir Chester

Hammer -- Did you receive that package in the U.S. MAIL? Please let me know when you
get that. Hope you're doing well and in good health. Godspeed.... -- Sir Chester,
a.k.a. Mike A. Clough #00164488

All -- Fight the good fight, keep the edges sharp, and win if possible. Soon I hope
to join all of you here in the Great City of Dragonhead. Wishing all of you good
luck and sand in your sandals. -- Sir Chester

All -- I have been out of town for some time now, I'm back and should be on the sands
soon...can't wait to fight...and Consentine...I hope you are able to graduate very
soon...I would very much like to cross blades with you before you go!!! Like to hit
you so freaking hard that your eyes would cross...heeee heeeeheeeeeee haaaaa haaa! --
George Delk (CRIME WAVE)

Bapohmet -- Can I tell you a secret...well...("I SEE DEAD PEOPLE!") and I soon will
see some of your fighters dead!!! Haaaa haaaa haaa! -- CYSPAR...the GREAT!!!

Ed. -- Could you please tell us or introduce us to all the active managers here in
Dragonhead? Thank you for your time. -- Don King

easy that was? No blood even! -- Vermin

Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up
for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this
fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get
me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive,
if I do say so myself. -- Shocking Toad, The Manager

All -- This is to announce that I am no longer a member of the Vendetta Cartel
Alliance. I have enjoyed my time there, and I've made some great friends. Their
company will be missed, but they will endure. I wish them well. -- Apex

The following warriors have traveled to ADVANCED DUELMASTERS after fighting this turn:

Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement
several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming
FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes.
First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes.
Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will
fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze
for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks
before the tournament.
In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered.
The new tourney classes will be as follows:

DM Tourney Classes ADM Tourney Classes
              ======================              ======================
                  0 FE: Rookies Freshmen
                1-4 FE: Apprentices ADM
               5-10 FE: Initiates Eligibles
              11-20 FE: Adepts ---induction---
              21-30 FE: Champions Contenders
                31+ FE: Challengers Primus

All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will
now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the
Freshmen class.
The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top
arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and
the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this
will be published in the newsletters for those arenas.
If you have any questions about the above changes, please contact Customer
Service. Good luck in your games.
