TEAM SPOTLIGHT
HOW TO GRADUATE A TEAM
Many years ago, Crip had a novel idea, wondering what it would be like to
graduate all five warriors from a team on a single turn. It would take some
planning, and duelling is never without the risk of death, but it didn't seem like
that difficult of a task, so he set about undertaking the task with two of his teams,
The Bulls and Worldwide Gore, who are both here in Erinika. He thought The Bulls
would be the first achieve the feat, as it was a fairly deep team with a lot of
experience under the belt of all five warriors. However, things did not go according
to plan. After going 1-3 and 2-3 in his last two challengers tournament, Bull Frog
went and pulled a rabbit out of his hat with a 12-3 TV, which gave him the political
points he was missing, and off to ADM he went the first turn after the tournament, to
be replaced by Stub Bull. Shortly thereafter, A Bomb In A Bull was re-killed (yes a
former Dead TV) in another Challengers tourney, and he was replaced by Dum Bull, and
that's where The Bulls stand today.
And the Worldwide Gore team had its struggles also. The team was well set, with
Red Hot Chile Papa (given the name way back when in honour of the occaision of one of
Mun's newborns), Mongol Horde, Cross Czech all sitting at 15-16 political points,
plenty of skills, and the talent to likely win a single fight to graduate. The team
also had Yankee Doodle, who also had 15 political points, but insufficient skills to
warrarnt an invitation with his 17th political points. He was also in a position
where he could lose (quite possible with his low skills) and fall to the Champions
class, so Crip had to run him in the Challengers tourney to gain a few more FE and
get another skill rating, which he eventually did after 7 challengers tourneys by
getting an expert rating in Riposte (which he turned out to be -2 in (also he should
have his Defence rating now, but he's -4 in that skill area). The 5th character on
the team was down in the rankings, but Apple Danish had some potential to move up
quick. But as he was approaching his invite (he had the political points, but not
the 20 arena fights), Crip made a strategic error, and Mongol Horde got killed in a
Challengers tourney, and he was replaced by American Idle. While the long road to
get Idle back up to the top started, Apple Danish pick up his 19th arena fight, and
got to take an extended vacation. But two dead tourneys after Mongol Horde was
killed, he came back to life with a Dead Challengers TV. In order to resurrect him,
the commission was asked to remove American Idle from the team, and fortunately, he
wasn't deemed skilled enough yet (despite learning extra skills in the dead tourneys)
to be moved automatically to ADM, so that meant the team was set. Unfortunately,
Crip wasn't, as his DM activity has been curtailed for a couple of years with a
family addition, but he's been trying to make his way back into the game this year,
and one of those steps was running all 5 Worldwide Gore warriors to try to graduate
them. The only risk was if one of the 5 were to get killed on their last turn, but
even if they combined for an 0-5 turn, they were all in a position to still graduate.
So now that that event has happened, here are the lucky 5.
Red Hot Chile Papa, 11(2)-13(1)-13-18(1)-18(1)-3-13 Wall of Steel, 23-14-1, with 110
skills learned, and Masters in Init, Attack (-3), Parry (+4), and Defence, AdEx in
Decise, and Expert Riposte. Commission faves are Battle Axe, Moderate/Very Low and
learns Defence.
Yankee Doodle 12(1)-20(19)-11-7(2)-17(1)-12-11(1) Total Parry, 22-20-1, with 68
skills learns and another 15 burned. AdEx Parry, Expert Riposte (-2), and -4 in
Defence without a rating. (If mode, he's also 1 skill from Experts in Decise and
Init too). The Commission faves are Medium Shield, Very Low/Low, leans Initiative.
Mongol Horde 13(3)-12(2)-7-16(1)-19(2)-10-15 Slasher, 16-8-4 with 107 learned skills,
and AdMaster Init (+1), Masters in Riposte, Attack, Decise, AdEx in Parry (+1), and
Expert in Defence (-3). Commission faves are Broadsword, Very High/Very Low, learns
Decise
Cross Czech 11(2)-15(2)-8-17-19(2)-9-11 Parry Strike, 16-14-3 with 117 learned
skills, and Masters in Init, Riposte, Attack (+1 due to Ambi), Decise (-1), and
AdEx's in Parry and Defence. The Commission favourites are Shortsword, Low/Very Low
Rhythm and learns Riposte.
Apple Danish 10-10-11-17-9-10-17 Striker, 18-3-1 (7 time DM) with 61 skills learned,
and a Master in Decise, and Advanced Experts in Init, Riposte and Attack. Commission
faves are Broadsword, High/Low Rhythm, and learns Riposte.

Notes from the arena champ.
I can't complain too much about Assur stealing my column last turn. I managed
to hold the throne and am now on the eve of immortality. And I'll be the first to
admit that while my time on the sands has been short, I also recognize Crip's crew's
feat as quite impressive.
I fully expect to fight Stub Bull this turn, as Assur and Crip have arranged the
fight. Assur believes that even a loss should ensure that I remain a challenger
champ and get the last couple of PPs I need to graduate. I am guessing I have the
advantage, but perhaps Stub Bull has much more experience than one would guess from
his record. And even if not, strikers are fast and there are certainly ways for him
to beat me, regardless of who has the advantage. By the time you all read this, all
will already be known.

Hail ERINIKA! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your
deeds. It seems the training can make the difference, as BASH BROS TELEPHONE is
pushed out of top team by SUPER STARS, who came from 2nd with a 5-0-0 this turn.
MONGOL HORDE stable has parlayed this turn's 2-1-0 into a 6 space move up the
rankings. This brings them up to 8th place. Good work, guys! The GASHOUSE GANG
guild has had a 4-0-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know
where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, SUN TZU fought BURIED TREASURE and
gained 19 points and contributed to SUPER STARS' 5-0-0. NEANDERTHAL has lost to
ROLEN, falling 10 points, while helping make THEY MIGHT BE ORCS a 0-1-0 turn. STUB
BULL challenged for the Duelmastership this turn, attempting to dethrone PALINDROMES'
warrior. The attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and BOOB remains
ERINIKA's top warrior for another turn. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I
saw last night, cramped under the table at The Dripping Blade?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. DUDS has cause to stand tall, as they were
ERINIKA's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat. And
avoiding DUDS more than any other team we find GASHOUSE GANG. ERINIKA, are we going
to accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports fans, take notice that
MRALISSA LOON from MIDDLE WAY 18 was ERINIKA's most challenged warrior this turn.
LAND-MINE HOPSCOTCH from POOR COMBINATIONS took a risk this turn by bravely
challenging up 29 points in a challenge against SARMINO TIELO. And crowds were on
their feet when LAND-MINE HOPSCOTCH claimed a victory from SARMINO TIELO, and now has
90 points for its efforts.
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? MIDDLE WAY 18 has lost SARMINO TIELO to the arena in the sky, but
they don't seem to be worried. What do you expect from 14-15-0? The bigger they
are, as they say. And what I say is that LAND-MINE HOPSCOTCH had better watch out
for MIDDLE WAY 18, seeing as SARMINO TIELO felled it this turn. Is it really true
that ERINIKA has more dishwashers per capita that fighters? Just thought I'd ask...
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Always good to rest in ERINIKA, but never good to wear out my welcome.
