It's dark on the streets of the city. Night has fallen and with it many fine
warriors limp to their respective encampments and makeshift homes in defeat. We come
upon the "Starry Plough", a small tavern not to far from the traders quarter in the
south eastern area of town. A quiet tavern as taverns go, a rather small barkeep as
barkeeps go and almost standard tavern decor. A fireplace in the eastern wall looks
sturdy and very inviting on a night such as this when the winds are howling and
travelers are weary from a long trek. It is here in this ruddy cavern we find our
lot sharing the warmth of ales and tales, cheering each other after another long day
survived and glory hard fought and won on arena sands.
"Dirk! Another round fer mi crew ere." Krago bellowed to the bartender across
the table good naturedly. "We ave sorrows to drown and vic'trees to embellish
tonight eh? Ha heh heh." He looked across the oak table and wondered how many more
would be lost along the way and let out a guttural roar that slowly growled and
transformed into a great tumultuous song.
A greet buffoon,

As he sang the tavern at first grew quiet, then as he began to sing the chorus
others at his table joined in and others in the tavern as well who knew the song,
until the tavern was filled camaraderie and spilt mead. Whilst this was going on
Silver Moon skipped rather comedically over to a neighboring table where she
recognized a few of the warriors from the arena from the team called Sword Opera.
She curtsied, flopped to the floor and from the floor she winked. "I love your work,
your plays and such they really bring me quite a rush. I sodo enjoy your writers'
touch perhaps we can um...you know...ah....." she began to wave her hands about as if
moving the air about her head would recycle the words inside her head. "Would
anybody like a peanut?" she finally blurted.

Hail, Chavez Ravine!
The pudly ripper is once again your Duelmaster. Jaru, what can I say? My manager
was sending me out Ultra-conservative last time we fought. But the Sand Dancers
manager got him to thinking with a comment about "trying too hard" and he realized he
wasn't letting me try *hard enough*. Haven't lost since....
As expected, I'm on my way to the Isle. No surprises at all. For the curious: I'm
11-13-11-21-9-6-13 parry-riposte. +4 attack, with a favorite learn of initiative
routines and LO for weapon. Just made MA initiative, to go with MA attack and rip
and AE parry. It's been a wonderful time here and I will do my utmost to represent
you all with pride (should my manager deign to run me in the future).

SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of CHAVEZ RAVINE! Know me for who I am, Zontani
Sharp Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team 1988 DODGERS
was unseated this week as VUELTA PELETON moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top
spot with a 3-1-1 record for the round. Fortune did not smile upon RED STRIPE
ALL-STARS this time out who this turn suffered a fall into 8th position in the wake
of a 1-1-0 round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner!
Witness how this week FAULTY PREMISES went 4-1-1 to move up 5 in the rankings. Did
only my eyes note the 4-1-0 record which STORMTROOPERS managed to post this round? I
don't doubt that such a record will draw challengers! RIFF-RAFF caught the eye of
many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested TSIRELL and was awarded
22 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, NOVICES put down
JADOW, causing him to lose 17 points of recognition in the process. This time out
TONY TAVLER made his bid for the throne as he challenged ULTRA ENDEAVOR in an all out
contest of skill for possession of the title! Not for nothing has ULTRA ENDEAVOR in
the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week she's proven hers
combat skill yet again. Would you believe that over half of the old women in CHAVEZ
RAVINE seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. My inside sources tell me that the
team to beat in CHAVEZ RAVINE these days is SLYTHERIN HOUSE. At least, most blades
in town are looking to avoid them. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have
been hard pressed to find any of THE DREIHDENS last week. Busy avoiding SLYTHERIN
HOUSE? Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. PELAK TEN
ZORN take warning! You have more than a few enemies in CHAVEZ RAVINE. A match that
raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that TSALMOTH posted a
challenge against the more highly recognized KRAGO. The results, you ask? Well, the
firebrand TSALMOTH bested KRAGO. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? ANGEL EDO has sworn to take up religion upon living to tell of his
recent bout with the Dark Arena horrors. A rare thing indeed! This week marked the
last days of SANTIAGO who at 18-4-3 was dispatched to the Dark Arena by the command
of DARK TOADZ's demanding management. Some guilds are strict but few are as
heartless as DARK TOADZ. Witness, last turn they sent SANTIAGO, a 18-4-3 fighter, to
the Dark Arena! Look no more for JORU MANE in the arena or on the streets of CHAVEZ
RAVINE. His fate was sealed in the Dark Arena. Inevitable for one at 22-27-2. This
week marked the last days of FATHER WILLIAM who at 19-7-3 was dispatched to the Dark
Arena by the command of DARK TOADZ's demanding management. Was I the only one
shocked to see the well respected fighter FATHER WILLIAM (19-7-3) appear on the sands
of the Dark Arena? He is now dead. I must report the passing of NEKKID CHICK,
veteran of many duels. 10-17-0 final record Hers was not illustrious--but death
plays no favorites. Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One
thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in CHAVEZ RAVINE. Nice atmosphere you have here! Sadly warriors, now longer
can I keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon!

Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest

TOURNEY FREEZE CHANGE -- ADVANCE NOTICE
Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement
several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming
FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes.
First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes.
Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will
fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze
for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks
before the tournament.
In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered.
The new tourney classes will be as follows:

All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will
now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the
Freshmen class.
The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top
arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and
the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this
will be published in the newsletters for those arenas.
