SPY REPORT
So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Don't these new hotshots make you sick (or, if
they fought you, hurt)? DISMAL ALLIANCE, on their very first turn, went 5-0-0. Hey
everybody, watch out for DEMENTIA, who flew up 20 points in the rankings after
mashing LALVO OF THE PEN like a melon. Keep your eye on this gal. Unlike most
arenas, LOQUE managed to get his challenge off against the 12-4-0 AULDRYMBREI. It's
a proud day for the GURTARG'S AXES stable, as their warrior, AULDRYMBREI, ascended
the Duelmaster's throne. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day
keeps T.P.s at bay.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the DAYLA KIV arena. And
hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid GURTARG'S AXES, please raise you hand.
Wow. Does DAYLA KIV really have that many liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but
catch FACING WORLDS' act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at
running from GURTARG'S AXES. And who is this AULDRYMBREI you ask, with 112 points
and a 13-4-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could tell!
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! Knowing when to use the right
tactics at the proper time is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in DAYLA KIV have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. Its been real, and its been fun, but it hasn't been real fun...-- The
Unknown Spymaster

Audrymbrei -- I hope I may count on you to provide a column? -- Ronsevan
Sympathetic Devil -- Sympathy always leads to trouble, in my experience. After all,
look at all the trouble you've been for me! -- Korba Klee
Glaerikim -- I just have this THING about dwarves, you know? So HAIRY. -- Chessara
Robert E. Lee -- Did you have bad luck on that match-up, or what? Better luck next
time. -- Garmon Chang
Well, what could I do? It wasn't MY fault, the Dirty Ruffian called on the gods for
help, and that always brings disaster. -- Mitrillao
Sir Chester -- Well, yes, graduation requires staying put and active in one arena for
a while. We'll be glad to see you here on a regular basis. -- Li Dan
P.S. I had a team once that was regularly avoided by the Dark Arena. Very odd.
Another effect of Small Arena Syndrome, presumably, but I have only seen it in that
one arena.
Harizon -- Well, yes, I think I WOULD like further details. Either the north or the
Ratani site for choice, although I've heard the Western Slope is a good place to
raise horses--and have them run off by the nomads. Anyway, further details, please.

HAMMER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Be it known from the highest mountains to the darkest alleys of Alastari that
the veteran manager known far and wide as Hammer has now officially retired from
sponsoring contests as of September 15, 2005.
What a long time ago was a fun motivated activity to help promote our common
DM/D2 gaming interest in an effort to promote the growth and competitiveness of
selected arenas has become a far from fun experience.
In other words Hammer has had it!
The combination of real life situations interfering with the time needed to
effectively sponsor a contest, plus the attitudes expressed during such sponsorship
interference has led to Hammer closing his personal coin coffers and retiring from
his planned sponsorship of any future contests.
There are others in our close knit gaming community who are well able to step up
to the plate and continue sponsoring contests that make the basic game a fun
experience for all those who choose to compete and interact in such future endeavors.
Hammer thanks all managers both active and inactive who helped to make the
Hammer sponsored contests a historical and entertaining experience well worth the
time, effort and money spent over the past several years.
May the Cheers and the Jeers of future contests build upon the legacies of those
who have paved the way in years gone by to help make this game what it is today.
Hammer has no regrets for the part he has played in that history.

I'd like to say hello to everyone I know that is still around after my being gone for
five years. Hope to see you all on the sands, and may your weapons strike true and
your shields protect you (except, of course, against MY warriors *grin*)!! -- Lord
Xiang, D2-101

Regarding the Regional News:
If any of y'all glance at it and find some arenas are behind, rest assured I'll
get them caught up next time around. I was trying to unsnarl the darned thing, but
it was just getting worse, so I decided gradual and partial was better than not at
all or ever. -- The Saint, keeper of lists
