"It's about our Lord Protector lands," Ronsevan said. "They're up north of Dal
Shang, on the border up there, and, well, we don't know that country at all, but...."
He shrugged and looked at Lady Protector Rebina, the first graduate from their team,
hopefully.
Rebina returned his look blandly. "But?" she prompted, glancing from Ronsevan
to Tsirell.
Tsirell looked down at his hands, then back up. "The only land that is given to
Lord Protectors is land with problems. Usually fighting problems. But in the Dal
Shang area, we're strangers--"
     "So am I."
"Yeah, well, we knew that," Ronsevan began.
"No, we didn't." Tsirell glared at his friend. "But it doesn't matter. You're
Jade Eye," he said, indicating the pin she wore which marked her as a temple knight.
"That gives you a standing anywhere. We're just a couple of guys. Nobody over that
way is going to trust us, or tell us anything, or be very helpful, but we thought,
well, with a Jade Eye knight along, that might make a difference."
Rebina leaned back in her chair. "What kind of difference? Have you seen the
land, or heard what the problem is there? Any facts at all?"
"Make us more impressive," Tsirell said. "Make people take us more seriously."
"Just for a while," Ronsevan said. "Till they get to know us and realize we're
the good guys."
Rebina was tempted to laugh but resisted. Temple knights, what the Andorians
called "paladins," were supposed to be tactful when possible. But the idea of
Ronsevan as a "good guy" was.... Well, okay, he wasn't, so far as she knew--and she
WOULD know--a bad guy. But between his ego and his attractiveness to the opposite
sex, there could be problems. Especially in a rural area that saw few strangers,
which is what most "gladiator lands" were like.
"We've got a map," Tsirell said. He pulled the small fold of paper out of a
pocket and spread it out on the table, pushing the plates and mugs out of the way.
She looked at the map and stifled a groan. The land these two were getting was
marked in red, and she could see that it was right on the northern border, on the
coast, and...she leaned closer and did groan out loud, near a location that she knew
to be extremely dangers. It was unfortunate that map-making was so good in Lirith
Kai, because she had no doubt as to the location of the land. And she could not let
a couple of green knights go there on their own. If it had been just smuggling and
skirmishes with the nearest elf-hold over the border, she might have done that. But
this place, no.
"I'll go with you," she said.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Here I sit and it's because of my hard training and my will to survive. I see
that Logue and I will finally get to duel, and what an excited dwarf I am about that!
Let the fights begin and good luck to all!

                                                  Glaerikim 3515

                                      SPY REPORT

So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Hey everybody, watch out for COACH, who flew up
13 points in the rankings after mashing TERRILIS like a melon. Keep your eye on this
guy. LOQUE got through to the Duelmaster this turn. No doubt he was more than
anxious to kick GLAERIKIM's tail out of the throne! It's a proud day for the FACING
WORLDS stable, as their warrior, LOQUE, ascended the Duelmaster's throne. Advice to
bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger halberd!
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the DAYLA KIV arena. Did you
hear that GURTARG'S AXES was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the personal
hygiene of GURTARG'S AXES' warriors, I'm not surprised! Okay, so I may not be funny,
but catch FACING WORLDS' act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at
running from GURTARG'S AXES. Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, TERRILIS
would be president. Although it may be a contest she doesn't want to win.
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Remember: alliances are great, but try and
take your ally in the arena with you and see what happens.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in DAYLA KIV have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. Okay, so I may not be the
world's best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. See ya
next time I'm on this circuit!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Glaerikim -- Well, all *I* can say is that you're a FIEND in dwarven form, and I hope
all your friends get eaten by MONSTERS on their Lord Protector Lands. -- Ghost of
Mitrillao

Loque -- Yes, okay, but what kind of world ARE you? This whole business of your team
name is a subject for hot debate back at our place, and if I can come in with the
answer, nobody will care that I lost. -- Garmon Chang

Malakai -- Nah, you guys should tell ME, not Garmon. I can get you a free pass to
the Tiger's Shadow for the rest of the year. -- Korba Klee

Spalding -- (shaking the sand out of her hair) Where'd you come from? I don't
recall that we've seen you Corps guys around in a while. Welcome back. -- Terrilis

Sand Dancers -- My deepest sympathy for the death of Mitrillao. I pray to the rollup
gods that you receive a very good replacement rollup. Well, I just hope that old
Glaerikim can make it out of here without facing the same fate. -- Sir Chester

Li Dan -- Yeah...there are many standbys in this arena, but what can one do? Just
keep fighting and hope for the best. Hey! Corps and Facing Worlds just because
active...now we have others to fight besides those standbys. Smile! I will also try
to get at least one person here in the near future. -- Sir Chester

Ghost of Mitrillao -- I would love to join you for the drinks DOWN there, but I'll
take a rain check on that for right now or at least until I too meet my fate. Sorry
about that, pal. And yes, we dwarfs are a little odd to some. I won't put dead
flowers over you, only fresh ones. -- Glaerikim

Harizon, Arena Steward -- Thank you for the offer of land and a place to call my very
own. I accept. Thank you very much. -- Auldrymbrei (ADM Bound)

Ed. -- How come we have not seen any results from the last mail in? Just wondering.
-- Sir Chester

Your guess is as good as mine. Sometimes the people in charge of that sort of
     thing are a little...forgetful. -- Ed.

All -- Happy Holidays to each and every one of you good managers. -- Sir Chester,
feeling kind of jolly (grin)

Logue -- Let it be known that I am going to give you a try to see what you're made
of. Nothing personal, of course. It's just time to duel. -- Glaerikim--the great
hot shot!
