                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

last turn's column:

Hi there, gladiators!

Well, it's been a long time since the Darklings fought in this arena. Our team
is doing okay on the Isle, I hear, but here at home...I don't know. We'll see.
Having one person killed on the first turn back isn't a good sign though, is it?
Alarum was kind of a sweet young guy. I didn't know him well...but it's sobering.
That could have happened to me. Instead, I got my invite. Mysterious are the ways,
huh? There's a funeral service tomorrow.
Korba Klee, you fought well. Um, I don't mean to offend, but...are you part
Shewish Giant? Because I've heard that surname before and I think it was attached to
a Shew.
One fight, and I get my invitation to the Isle. I feel pretty nervous about
going, but excited too. I'll be heading to Free Blades, of course. Oh, and some
managers likes to know the numbers the Commission tells you when you get invited to
the Isle. Here are mine: 11-10-3-19-17-13-11. They say I'm best suited to the
Shortsword. Yuck!
I do have one more fight here in Daiyla Kiv, though. So we're having a party
after the fights next turn (this turn, I guess, when you read this). You're invited.
Come on over! Free punch and cookies.

Rem

this turn's column:

So, Rem, you're off to the Isle. Have fun. I'm going straight into retirement,
myself.

                                     Garmon Chang

                                      SPY REPORT

Much has changed in DAYLA KIV since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. SAND DANCERS showed DAYLA
KIV what they were made of as they fought with a vengeance to walk off with 4-1-0.
What's with KORBA KLEE? He actually beat DAYLA KIV's PELIS THE OLD, and walked away
with 13 more points from the fight. Major screwup at DARKLINGS. SANDMAN lost 5
points to TELGAN TEN VORH. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe SANDMAN will provide
more easy wins... SLEEPWALKER was reminded on the sands why GARMON CHANG is
Duelmaster. Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some
team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
No matter the time or place, men will always duel.
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover
stupor. You young rapscallions, take note!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
Are you as tired of reading this as I am of writing it? Actually, I guess I'm
writing it before you read it. Oh, well. Time for my medication, so I'll leave now.
Practice, practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

Korba Klee -- I'm sorry to take the title from you. I'm sure you're a good warrior,
though the style and speed matchup was very unfavorable to you. Good luck in the
future. I'm going to the Isle! (nervous)

Darsal the False -- Yes, I know you're a stand-in and aren't allowed to post an
answer, but you probably do read the arena news. I just want to say, I thought you
fought bravely and well, and if the fight had gone on another minute it might have
ended very differently. -- Spirit Hound

Darsal the False -- They shouldn't make you fight twice in one day. You were already
tired when you faced me. And I know they gave you a healing potion, but you probably
weren't fully recovered yet. That's a tough job you've got. -- Sleepwalker

Dirty Ruffian -- Obviously we can't bloodfeud since you're a stand-in. And obviously
Alarum wasn't that great a warrior since he was slain by you. But he was my friend.
If I see you on the street, I'm going to make you wish you hadn't done that. --
Spirit Hound

Telgan ten Vorh -- Good fight. And I'm embarrassed to say that, since I had ten
fights' experience to your four. Still, glad to get the win. -- Sandman

Sleepwalker -- What are you, nuts? Into the teva with you and start on those
weights! -- Korba Klee
P.S. And don't do it in your sleep, either.

Spirit Hound -- You dirty dog! -- Jujuble

And a couple of standbys. Small arena syndrome. Gotta...love it. -- Jorja
