First to the dinner bowl again, and for the last time. This is it, Dayla Kiv, my last turn as your finicky champion. I know you'll miss my column as much as I miss writing it, but all fair-to-middling things must come to an end. There's not much to say about my fight last turn with Pelis the Old. Two swings and it was over. I don't know why they send retirees to fight Duelmasters in their prime, but that's the Commission for ya. They're sadistic in their desire to satiate the fans' cries for blood. By the time you read this, my elven buddy and teammate, Erebus Impact, may be the new and returning champion (he insists he was champion not too long ago, but I don't remember--hey, I'm a cat not an elephant; I can't remember these things). I can't think of anyone more deserving of the title. Here's to his fruitful reign. These weird guys wearing luminescent suits came by our guildhouse this week. They wanted to watch me train and wanted me to use every weapon in a gladiator's arsenal whilst doing so. They did a lot of mumbling and talking behind their hands. Then they had the unmitigated gall to tell me my favorite weapon is a dagger. I'm a universal warrior; I can use every weapon. But beware the guy in the green suit--he can't be trusted. Medea, my lovely and talented manager (she wanted me to say that), tells me I'm the first of her charges to graduate in the minimum 20 FE. No tourneys did I participate in. Just a pure 20 fights and that was it. Also, I was the only one of her long line of Lord Protectors to achieve an Advanced Master rating in only 20 FE. She says I'm "special" and I tell her, "I know." Hey, I'm a cat, of course I'm self- absorbed. What do you want from me? All right, I've made this, my last column, as long as I care to make it. Be well, Dayla Kiv. I will no longer be your champion, but I will always be... Katzenjammer of Nine Lives Matter (I thought this was so funny I'm using it two turns in a row. You can laugh now.) -- Regalus Fury SPY REPORT Welcome DAYLA KIV. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights have I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... What's with SHEWISH HORROR? He actually beat SAND DANCERS' RED KOGAN, and walked away with 8 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at DAYLA KIV while they watched DANGEROUS BON LOKAR clobber TIOGAN CROW. He lost 10 points and got bruised from objects thrown from the stands. Try as he might, TRAVELING TINKER wasn't good enough at persuading REGALUS FURY to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners. No matter the time or place, men will always duel. A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters don't accept this. The best do. How long have I been here? I got people to see, places to go... Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt. All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf. Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and good luck. THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN Revenge? PERSONAL ADS Pelis the Old -- Sorry about that, old boy. I did hear chants of "AARP, AARP" coming from the crowd during our fight, so you do have some fans. :) -- Regalus Fury Pelis the Old -- Don't you hate it when you nearly get killed by the Duelamaster, and the Commission picks you up, dusts you off, and tells you to get back out there and fight again? -- Erebus Impact Komar the Penniless -- Really, mate, someone should pay you for these beatings you're taking. Stingy Commission. -- Tane Traveling Tinker -- You again?! Arrghh. I get the one stand-in that can actually fight? It t'aint fair, and if there's one thing I believe in, it's being fair. It's in my name, even. -- Jakarta Fair Jakarta Fair -- I fought the Tinker and beat him. Consider beating him a right of passage to stay in the Champions section. -- Erebus Impact Red Kogan -- You're a tough hombre. Like bitter beer, you don't go down easy. -- S. Horror Peldan Djian -- ...and speaking of beer, of course you can buy me a cold one. The aforementioned stout (from last turn) sounds good. -- S. Horror Red Kogan -- Make it sausages (not ham). Sausages remind me of my thick, stubby, dwarven fingers. And for reasons I don't even know, that sounds more appetizing. -- Tane Hanval the Claw -- At least spell my name correctly, mister. I've only been DM for five turns. Geesh! -- RegAlus (with an "A") Fury Madame U Tana -- Hmm...I'm using my imagination... -- Jakarta Fair Traveling Tinker -- If it means my buddy, Jakarta Fair, doesn't fight you, I'll be happy to take you on. -- Tane Shewish Horror -- All shews are horrors. -- Red Kogan And two-two against standbys. That's ridiculous. -- Red Kogan Regulus Fury -- Sorry, no, if you put gold coins in my hand, I would be out of town SOOO fast, my head would spin. -- Komar the Penniless Jakarta Fair -- Khalhums is OUT. Totally passee, and any dwarf who hasn't left is an idiot. The town is dead. Probably plague. I hear a lot of corpses with green and purple polka dots are lying around in the street. -- Khad'drakh'n'dhaz of Khra, known as the Traveling Tinker, maker of superb blades Regulus Fury -- We congratulate you on your graduation, and I'll get in a keg of micro beer (rather than a micro keg). I'll be waiting for you. We'll sit out on the floating porch to fish until we get too cold, then go inside and eat whatever someone will deliver. I have good relations with a neighbor who roasts pigs. -- Baikal s'Kren LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS REGALUS FURY viciously subdued TRAVELING TINKER in a 1 minute master's fight.
