                             Notes from the arena champ.

The courier, accompanied by an impressive number of bodyguards and porters, made her
way up to the double doors. A quick glance above them at the chiseled stone building
confirmed this did, indeed, house the Administrative offices of the Jorja Academy of
Combat Knowledge. She paused for a moment to see if any of her guards were interested
in earning a bit more; sure enough, one quickly stepped up and opened the door for her
with a bow. She made a mental note to remember him as she passed within.

The clerk looked confused and then anxious as she approached the counter, as if there
were certainly some administrative policy being broken here but he couldn't quite
bring it to mind. At last, with a look that indicated he had, perhaps, swallowed a
bug with his sudden intake of breath, he coughed noisily for a few seconds until he
managed to rasp out, "How may I be of service to you?"

"I wish to make a deposit," she replied coolly and waited to see if he appreciated her
witticism. He did not, if his mouth opening and closing, like certain fish that were
sold at the Dayla Kiv dockside fishmongers stalls, was any indication. She sighed
inwardly and smiled outwardly. "My good man, I am here to register an endowment." As
his world collided with context that he could finally understand, he coughed one last
time and recovered what professionalism he could muster.

"Ah yes, excellent. Here is a form that must be filled out, in triplicate, to ensure
we have everything we need in order to research and approve the endowment."

"How, you won't just take my coinage?" She stared at him, incredulous. She
emphasized her tone by pushing the form back at the clerk.

"My good woman, the Jorja Academy of Combat Knowledge must maintain certain standards.
We can't just take ANY money. How much is the endowment you wish to register and for
what purpose?" He once again slid the form across the counter.

"Two thousand, five hundred kanolaran disks." She didn't even acknowledge the form
this time.

He stared at her waiting to see if she did him the honor of a jest. Then he eyed the
porters and the engraved chests they had initially held and then, as the debate raged
on, ultimately set on the office floor. "I see." He nonchalantly pulled the form
back and began filling it out for her. "Purpose of the endowment?"

"Statuary."

He looked up, trying not to appear annoyed. "I beg your pardon?"

She sighed. "I want a statue."

                                   ****************

Bartran appeared tall, even while seated. He rubbed his eyes and glanced longingly at
the door. "Why are you asking me these things again?"

The intern looked at his clipboard and shrugged. "I don't know. Something about
vetting your background before we can put up a statue. Apparently, in the current
environment, there is a risk of it just being torn down again, which wouldn't serve,
well, anyone really. So please just answer "yay" or "nay" to the following. Have
you... ever been convicted of a crime in Dayla Kiv?"

"Convicted? No."

The intern narrowed his eyes.

"Dated a Shew?"

"What?! I'm Palani!"

"Yes or no."

"No! What does that have to do with --"

"Do you cohabitate with any Orcs?"

"No."

"Karragit?"

"Bless you!"

"Answer the question!"

                                 ********************

The assemblage was august. The Dean of the Dayla Kiv campus of the Jorja Academy of
Combat Knowledge, awash in his own sweat, stood and called the ceremony to order.

"In recognition of the eminence, service and lifetime devotion to the teaching and
instruction of others during his years in Dayla Kiv, the Jorja Academy of Combat
Knowledge hereby bestows upon Bartran Klee the title of Professor Emiritus and
Associate Dean of the Academy!"

A signal given, a rope pulled and the impressive granite likeness of one Bartran Klee
towered over the assembly, looking at once patient, wise and kind. One hand was put
forth in a gesture of explanation while the other, a hand raised towards the sky,
indicated -- and the gallery was mixed on this -- either a gesture of success or an
impending about-to-be-delivered lesson in not paying attention to the instructor. A
sculpted, faceless warrior sat in rapt attention to both hands.

"It's beautiful," Sportacus whispered in awe. Towering beside him, Stomper could only
agree. Even Mr. Maurice, who only briefly interacted with JACK's star professor,
begrudgingly agreed.

"Gods, we'll miss him," added Stomper.

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
DAYLA KIV brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Of course, we're all terribly
impressed to see JOE SHROE win a fight and gain 13 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, JOE
SHROE beat LEO and LEO lost 6 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is
the spice of life, DAYLA KIV may be getting bland, as SPORTACUS stays top dog in the
city. The Crystal Wheel, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do
they get this stuff? From DAYLA KIV's trash dumps?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? HELL'S PACK was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice?
Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was SPROUT OF MY WAY!. Ha ha ha ha!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if
the fate catches up with you sooner that later?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Well, I've had enough of this
drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. I see
the crowds are getting restless, I must leave now-- Snide Clemens

                                    Just a note:

Our DM writers (both staff and players) put quite a bit of effort into writing content
for the newsletters: spy reports, spotlights, and personal ads; fiction and non-
fiction. If you enjoy these, if you want more, or even if they make you laugh, it
would be kind if you could drop a personal ad or even send them a note.

Assur and Consortium, especially, put tremendous effort in Noblish Island, writing new
content and tweaking/correcting older content to help new players learn the game.

A special shoutout should also go to our varied human spy reporters in the ADM arenas,
Seam, Chimlevtal, Shadowspire, Telorinthe, and occasionallly contest arenas.

Kudos and thank you to all of our writers! I'm sure we don't thank you enough.
