DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I am back, by popular demand. Well, at least I did not fight a stand-by to keep
Jade Mountain's throne. Morganna, you never really got going. As you probably
noticed, I have improved. I do not think the Longsword is my favorite weapon, but it
does pretty well, particularly against Ringmail. Better luck next time. I am not
challenging anyone this cycle, so perhaps we will meet again. If I defend my throne,
I will probably receive my invite, and immortality. So hopefully no one will kill
me.
Jade Mountain appears to be one of those "dying arenas." Judge says that he may
even have to shut things down here after Habeas Corpus and I graduate. Hopefully,
this is not true. Speaking of Habeas Corpus, he has a date with Red Mosquito.
Jekyll, hopefully you are not having Red avoid, because Habeas Corpus has been
looking forward to this matchup for some time. By the way Jekyll, Elephant made some
pretty choice comments about you and the rest of the Midnight Foundation in the most
recent Aradi Newsletter in his TOGS IV spotlight. I will be curious to see if you
have a response to him.
As you may know, Judge is pretty busy with the TOGS IV Tournament in Aradi, so
he has not been focused as he would like here in Jade Mountain. Therefore, he told
me I have to keep this column short. Welcome to the new teams, we hope you stay for

SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! Like a young cub challenging a hoary bear, I AM SAM found themselves
outmatched: 0-3-0. Ouch! A certain someone should cut down on the drinking and
practice more, after losing 15 points to MORGANNA. (Discrete enough, LENTIRIA?)
ALLOCUTION successfully staved off a grab for the roses by HOLLY HEPATITIS of ONE
NIGHT STAND. Does JADE MOUNTAIN have no one talented enough to dethrone him? Word
has it one team in JADE MOUNTAIN is taking speech lessons to try to bore their
opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Perhaps the warriors of PARANOID
ASYLUM should take up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided team... The
warriors of PARANOID ASYLUM found their efforts at combat frustrated as DARK TOADS
apparently had more important things to do than fight. Everyone is famous for
fifteen minutes, and WOODY is it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't SAND
DANCERS proud! VIRGINITIPHOBIA challenged ESSINA TYL VERN! Who says FEARFUL are
just a bunch of wimps! VIRGINITIPHOBIA of FEARFUL kept hers wits as she overcame
ESSINA TYL VERN.
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
Do not think spyreporting in JADE MOUNTAIN is the highlight of my life. As if
buffeted by forces of nature beyond my control, I must take my leave of this place.

Restrictions: Zero FE at start of contest. Must announce warrior styles by second

Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest

TOURNEY FREEZE CHANGE -- ADVANCE NOTICE
Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement
several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming
FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes.
First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes.
Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will
fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze
for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks
before the tournament.
In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered.
The new tourney classes will be as follows:

All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will
now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the
Freshmen class.
The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top
arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and
the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this
will be published in the newsletters for those arenas.
