"Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is," Master Beru yelled at Da Otha
Barkeep.
His head down, Da Otha Barkeep mumbled something incomprehensible, hoping to
divert the tide of wrath being directed at him. Normally not a fearful man, his
embarrassment about forgetting such a simple task was overwhelming. He did not like
the idea of his boss being mad at him on top of it.
"Sir, I know I did wrong. I...I merely...."
His eyes looked at Master Beru again and he shook his head and bowed it again.
He had heard others talk of winning their manager's displeasure and knew what the
sentence was. With a deep breath, he forced out, "I will sign the orders myself to
fight at night."
"YOU WILL DO NO SUCH THING!!"
Popping his head up, Da Otha Barkeep eyed his boss warily. He had been sure
that was the necessary action. He had been positive that Master Beru wanted blood,
but his expression had lightened and frustration filled his features now. His boss
grabbed a chair and sat down facing the nervous man.
"Come on, I don't DA someone just for screwing up. If I did, I would have no
teams out there. This is just frustrating. I mean, you have more than enough to pay
the entrance fees as well as running the tavern, and yet you FORGET to send the fight
confirmations and challenges to the commission!! And there I am, sitting in the
stands with two nobles telling them how I expect to see at least three victories.
And as the initiate fights conclude I have to sputter my way through an explanation
of something I don't comprehend. I had thought to enlist those two to secure our
position here, but I doubt I can sway them now. Especially bad since one of them I
needed badly on my side. Now I think I must arrange an accident.
"Geez, and then there is Bounsa. You did not even stop him from going to the
holding area for the night fights. He was in tears! Even knowing that I would bring
him back, he felt the fears of anyone going to their death. And now he has to
rebuild his life until the next night fights. Not to mention that I have to adjust
my schedule to be sure I am here to show you how to revive him afterward."
Shaking his head, Master Beru began smoothing his face to calmness. Losing his
temper felt good occasionally, but he knew it had to be seldom and in the right
company or it did too much damage. He could not allow his team to suffer because of
a foolish error. Not if he could help it at least.
"Okay. You see to Bounsa. Don't make this mistake again, for his sake if no
other reason. We lost some momentum due to this, so you will have extra work on your
plate as a result. Our next fights will be determined by the commission, which we
get no say over, so make sure everyone is ready. With some luck, the matches will be
in our favor, but if not, everyone must be prepared to defend themselves as best as
possible...."
Barkeep listened attentively as his boss laid out directions for their training
before the next fights. A double load of physical training for him was the only
punishment he heard in the instructions. He still did not understand his boss, but
he was definitely grateful for another chance.
                                   ****
<Two days later>

A boy slammed through the swinging doors into the bar and stopped. His blonde
hair and blue eyes surveyed the patrons, before locking onto a table in the back. He
immediately sprinted to the table with three men sitting at it. One of the three men
was noticeably older than the other two and into this man's ear did the youth
whisper.
The older man listened quietly, nodded, and pulled a silver coin out of his
belt. The boy grinned broadly, revealing a gap toothed grin. Turning, he made the
coin disappear as he walked out the door, smiling at Da Dancin Girl on his way out.
At the table, the two other men watched the boy leave before turning to Master
Beru questioningly. He waved their attention away. They did not need to know yet
about the accident that the Netarin family was about to learn of. And they
definitely did not need to know about his "small" band of assassins and spies.

                                      SPY REPORT

Much has changed in LIN TIRIAN since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. What's with OLAF THORFIN?
He actually beat SAND DANCERS' SHANA THE KNIFE, and walked away with 17 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at SAND DANCERS. SHANA THE KNIFE lost 15 points to
OLAF THORFIN. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe SHANA THE KNIFE will provide more
easy wins... I can barely restrain my enthusiam for MAGIC ARTISTS' outstanding
member, Duelmaster ILLUSIONIST. Advice to fighters with a 1 will--give up fighting!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... The most avoided team
was DOMINATION. The bums at EARL'S TAVERN couldn't face the challenges from
DOMINATION! No excuse for that! How well I know the feeling of being the most
challenged warrior, CHALBAEG! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt
you. Keep challenging up 26 points, SOLDIER 1, and I won't have to write about you
much longer. NIOBE NEPENTHE always accepts those kind of challenges... SOLDIER 1
bested NIOBE NEPENTHE (SOLDIER 1 getting 18 points, too!)--Ooh baby! Now dat I
likes!
Warriors of LIN TIRIAN unite. You have only your games to lose! Hmm... More
surprises must remain in store for me, if ROGAR THORFIN can return from the Dark
Arena. Who will dare fight ENID STYRACOS, after she returned from the Dark Arena?
(For the record 4-2-1 is 33, and has she points) Is it my imagination, or are
fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so gloriously!
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. LIN
TIRIAN is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Remember--a
good fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

NEED A TURF WAR ALLIANCE?? Master Beru, Wretch, Reaper, and Xoan have come together
to form an Alliance for the TURF WAR in DM47 with no regards for experience in
competitions or even the game. If you want to enjoy the thrills of the competition,
we have space for up to three more managers. Contact Master Beru at
d_spinella@msn.com for more information or send a note to Master Beru at DM 29--Army
of Darkness. If you are interested, we need to move quickly, since the contest
starts in January and there are a few requirements to meet to participate. May your
blades find the chinks in your enemy's armor. -- Master Beru

6 December 2006
ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)

As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:

* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.

The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
    this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
    warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.

The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
   Arena.

The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of
November 2007.
The player with the second most votes overall will fill slot 4 and that term expires
end of September 2007.
The player with the third most votes overall will fill slot 3 and that term expires
end of November 2007.
The player with the fourth most votes overall will fill slot 2 and that term expires
end of May 2007.

During the month that the chairperson's term expires the Player Committee will select
one of the remaining 4 players to be the next chairperson. During the month that any
member's term expires the arena will vote for a different player to join the Players'
Committee.

If you want to be a candidate for the player committee:
1. Post a message in the Duel2 Forum at
    http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums
2. E-Mail Deke at DekeYoung@Comcast.NET
3. Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab [ARENA 81]

There are 4 steps to joining this arena
1) Send in a new team rollup to RSI with the following pledge taped/stapled to the
rollup sheet, or transfer a ZERO FIGHT EQUIVALENT TEAM to Arena 81 and send RSI the
following form.

No-Tournament Arena (81)
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this team to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this team.

2) [Optional] post a message on the Duel 2 Forums in the Creating a No-Tournament
   Arena thread
   http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2296&sid=
   94ebf69603ccaf5c7dbf1b19da799732
3) [Optional] send an e-mail to DekeYoung@Comcast.NET with your team name
4) [Optional] Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab in Arena 81 with your team
name and intent to join Arena 81 and abide by the Arena rules.

RSI will be processing overviews for this arena as soon as you send them into
RSI.
The first turn will run in January 2007. This will be a normal speed arena.
While I am encouraging everyone to use TEAM MAINTENANCE it is not mandatory.
The intent is that players that run turns will run a full team. One warrior teams
are discouraged and will a topic for the Player Committee to resolve.
I also encourage players to join the Duel2 Yahoo Group for faster updates and
feedback. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/duel/
