Loose Ends
"Kid, I know the boss. He would not give you an order like this. Now stop
struggling and let go of your weapon."
She was not happy about it, but he knew she would comply. She seemed to enjoy
pleasing people, no matter what that took. How she could turn on a dime like she did
and suddenly hack a man to bits like this was hard to imagine. Yet here she was.
Picking her sword up, he tucked it under his belt, careful to avoid injuring
anything important. The blood that got on him, was unavoidable. Looking at the mess
in front of him, he knew that there was little hope of not getting messy.
An hour later, they had pushed the carcass into a large keg and brought fresh
sand from the other side of the tavern to cover the location where the body had lain.
In the torchlight, the bloodsoaked earth appeared no different than the sand around
it, but the experienced Barkeep made a mental note to check it in the morning.
Pulling a cart around, they loaded the keg on and headed out to a location which he
had heard about.
The trip was made in silence, with the girl staring around with a wide-eyed
innocence which did not seem to go with her actions from earlier that evening.
Finding the place was easy enough, even in the dark. The two of them had easily
removed the keg and set it up to roll down a small hill. The keg rolled off and
bounded down the rocks, before shattering against a particularly large outcropping.
Almost immediately, the band of wild dogs fell in on the still warm carcass. In
minutes the form was far from recognizable. Barkeep shuddered at the efficiency of
the half-starved mutts. He was not sure whether to be grateful for the conversation
which had referred him to this location or whether to curse the day he had ever seen
the three "regulars" first walk in.
Lost in thought, the return trip was even more quiet than the outward leg. Once
back at the tavern, Barkeep checked on the patrons and satisfied himself that no one
was asking any questions that they should not. Settling behind the bar, he eyed his
New Bounsa out of the corner of his eye as he began washing glasses.
Da Champeen looked up suddenly, and asked, "So where did you go girl? I saw you
and <hic> dat soldier boy go... <BURP> out wid dat otha guy behind yas and...."
"What other guy," Barkeep asked quietly.
Of course, the runner from the arena commission chose that moment to drop off
their fight notices. Champeen found enough wisdom to keep quiet while the kid was
there. And then the interest over the upcoming fights distracted them for a moment
or two.
"Champ, who was the other guy?"
"Uh, dat guy your fightin'. Ked-Ron Luke. He waited until da girl and sowdier
was owside and den he follered them."
Barkeep looked down at his fight notice and shook his head. If Kedron saw the
girl.... There was only really one choice.... If he could pull it off at least....

Notes from the arena champ.
O.K. O.K. I give. Don't know what happened last turn from us Magic Artists.
I find it hard to believe that our manager, Houdini, didn't send in some posts.
Hmmmmmmmmm. So, from this DM column you will get my comments, some of my teammate's
comments, and, of course, Houdini's comments. So here we are.
I a Duelmaster. I deserve it. Venemous Concubine had no chance. It will be
the same for Orgullo, if we match up next time. I am pretty good if I have to say so
myself.
"Nope; you do not have to say it yourself because I will say it also say it.
You are good!" interjected Houdini.
Well, Conjurer won a fight also this time and it was against someone who was 10-
12-2 and poor old (rather young) Conjurer was only 3-2-0 going in. I sure do not
think Conjurer made THAT challenge. A lucky match with a lucky win despite the great
experience difference.
"No way! It was my amazing managerial ability, not luck, which won Conjurer
that fight. You hear?" interjected Houdini.
Yeah sure. I guess the H-Guy will claim my hard fought win next. Managers can
be quite like that, you know?
Hey, did you read the neat spotlight from Master Beru? I think it was Greywand
who is the mistress. Or was it that horde of pygmy (read Death Stud/Sentinel)
Shewish Giants that flocking around here in Lin Tirian lately?
Well, tune in next time. I will probably be back, and maybe there will be some
more Magic Artists now that The Face is over. Hope you all did well there.

SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit
back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. It looks like
the guys(?) at THE LUNATIC FRINGE had a good week as they went 3-0-1 to put them in
5th place. I guess steroids help! Hey everybody, watch out for ROLLO THORFIN, who
flew up 19 points in the rankings after mashing CHALBAEG like a melon. Keep your eye
on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was OLAF THORFIN, who dropped
9 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with OOKLA THE MOK. In front
of all the crowds, ORGULLO DIFAMAR took the Duelmaster's crown for his own. I give
the bum two weeks. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps
T.P.s at bay.
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid DOMINATION, please raise you hand. Wow. Does LIN TIRIAN really have that many
liars? For those of you who like math, try this one: DOMINATION + Weapons That go
Boom = THE LUNATIC FRINGE + Avoid City. Well dang howdy, but if challenges were
votes, CHALBAEG would be president. Although it may be a contest he doesn't want to
win. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, DA OTHA BARKEEP went after MIRIAL
ADAMANT, who was higher by 23 points. Well, when the dust settled, DA OTHA BARKEEP
bested MIRIAL ADAMANT.
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! This week 8-8-3 ROGAR THORFIN
was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters with similar records who might
take notice of this. Yes, and another newbie bites the dust as DA CHAMPEEN goes down
under the sword of NECROMANCER. Thanks to this, NECROMANCER now has 53 recognition
points. Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly
buggers, eh?
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in LIN TIRIAN have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. And remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos),
