                                     Departures

Da Otha Barkeep searched the bare walls reflecting on moments spent at almost
every point in the building. His eyes lingered on the spot where the shows had been
performed. The stage needed another layer of protection which it would do without
for quite a while. The floor required a good polish now as well.
With a sigh, he pulled his hat on and turned out of the building. Once outside,
he closed the doors and pulled the chain down around the handles. The freshly sawn
hardwood reminded him of his uncle's house in the mountains. The doors had been
constructed and installed specifically for this purpose.
Stepping back from the building, his gaze lingered for a moment longer.
Whirling about, he stepped to the side of the walkway and then stepped into the
stirrup of his horse. His leg swung over the rump of his mare and he settled himself
on the horse. A slight tap of his heels and Mist stepped forward obediently moving
the few feet to the wagon which was half full of gear and the other two members of
the Tavern who had stayed to the end, Da Dancin' Girl and Da Painted Lady.
"Everything together in there," asked Da Dancin' Girl.
"Yeah. We're done here. Let's move out."
Da Painted Lady held the reins in her hands and flicked them without a second
glance. For her the memories were mostly unpleasant, so leaving was not a problem.
She longed for another town, another opportunity.
Da Dancin' Girl held her youthful exuberance for her first job and watched it
dwindle into obscurity as the wagon moved. Da Otha Barkeep kept his face stoicly
ahead, but she spotted the traces of moisture on his cheeks. Both missed their home
already.

From the corner of some buildings opposite the Tavern, a figure sat in the
shadows watching. His height approached seven feet, but he blended with
the darkness like it belonged. As the creak of the axle on the wagon
pierced the still peaceful morning, he contemplated what he should do
next. Aargol knew his master well enough to know that scaring his enemies
or killing one or two were not enough. He contemplated what he could do
next for quite some time. Finally, his head moved forward, peeking out of
the alley.

As the twisted horns exited their hiding place a young voice gasped. The
head shot around, piercing the boy with his stare. From the alley next to
Earl s Tavern, a boy known as Bertril stood staring. His body reacted to
the sight by soiling his threadbare pants. In the next second a wave of
fire flashed from the form in the shadows across the street, striking the
lad and then ramming into the Tavern.

The creature paid no more attention to the fire which sprung up in the
tavern and on both sides. The heat soothed him. The charred remains of
the child lay before the intense heat of the fire, the boy s mouth open in
a scream which had never even reached his throat. Those were the screams
which Aargol relished. Leaning back, he squatted and then propelled
himself into the clouds above.

His laughter rebounded off walls as the first cries of alarm were raised.

                                      SPY REPORT

It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. We now have a new top team for all of you guys to dogpile on. MAGIC
ARTISTS now holds the crown and they are betting they can keep it. Hey everybody,
watch out for DEELAR MARION, who flew up 14 points in the rankings after mashing
CAPTURED ORC like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't
pay to walk out on the sands. CONJURER lost to SHANA THE KNIFE and drops 1 points.
Try as hard as the SUPER SCIENCE stable might, they were unable to find their warrior
(and ex-Duelmaster) OOKLA THE MOK before this week's fights. It's a proud day for
the SAND DANCERS stable, as their warrior, SHANA THE KNIFE, ascended the Duelmaster's
throne. Can you believe they are paying me 10 gold to deliver this stuff?
Here is other news that is of note. Here's a song for you: Who's afraid of the
big, bad DOMINATION? Big bad DOMINATION. Big bad DOMINATION. LIN TIRIAN's afraid
of the big bad DOMINATION. Tra la la la la! For those of you who like math, try
this one: DOMINATION + Weapons That go Boom = MAGIC ARTISTS + Avoid City.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Yesterday I talked to the EARL'S TAVERN's manager and
NECROMANCER, slayer of DA CHAMPEEN. The manager: 'I think I can, I think I can'.
NECROMANCER: 'I already did'. Remember: alliances are great, but try and take your
ally in the arena with you and see what happens.
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. Well, there goes another Spy Report. Good luck in
next week's fights. And remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick
your--(loud boos), oh, you've heard that one already!-- The Unknown Spymaster
