Seeing the assassins spread out through the lumber yard galvanized Timmy Tango.
They were looking for HIM. He did not delude himself that being a gladiator gave him
much of an edge, if they cornered him in the dark. He counted six of them as they
moved through the night. They wouldn't be like the Convicted Assassin. They were
good enough they hadn't been caught, much less convicted. And they fought by no
rules. The elf had gone down so fast, they might have used poison. He had no defense
against poison except an orc's natural resistance. He was grateful for that, but he
didn't want to bet his life on it.
Timmy looked around quickly, making sure there were no other opponents headed his
way. He didn't see any. But what about the lumberyard watchmen? They weren't many
or alert. Who would try to steal a huge tree trunk? Some of them were two or three
feet thick. So no watchman was going to show up to help him out here. His teammates
didn't know where he was or what he was supposed to be doing. No help to be expected
from any quarter.
He was an adult, a trained fighter, which implied a certain amount of
intelligence, competence, and discipline. He could save himself. He would have to.

                             Notes from the arena champ.

A couple of references to LINK...

During The Big Boss's youngest daughter's growing-up years, the two of them spent
many hours together playing The legend of Zelda.
That daughter now has two cats -- Link, the orange tabby, and Zelda, the mostly
black calico.
Such is the life of two-time Duelmaster Link

                                      SPY REPORT

Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt LIN TIRIAN will ever be the same. It seems the training can make the
difference, as SAND DANCERS is pushed out of top team by FAMOUS ARCHERS, who came
from 2nd with a 3-1-1 this turn. The FURY'S EDGE guild has had a 4-1-1 turn and
deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can
lead. And let's see, L H OSWALD fought JUSTINE and gained 21 points and contributed
to FURY'S EDGE's 4-1-1. JUSTINE has lost to L H OSWALD, falling 18 points, while
helping make SAND DANCERS a 1-4-0 turn. And all eyes were on DALADMAR this turn as
he ascended to the throne of Duelmaster. LIN TIRIAN has a new victor! Tell me, is
nothing sacred? I have heard from unimpeachable sources that The Lost Hope Inn uses
trolls in their stew. Talk about gristle!
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. HOWLIN CASE has cause to stand tall, as
they were LIN TIRIAN's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And avoiding HOWLIN CASE more than any other team we find FAMOUS ARCHERS. LIN
TIRIAN, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing?
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. SAND DANCERS has lost EUGENE to the
arena in the sky, but they don't seem to be worried. What do you expect from 6-6-0?
A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or hide when the
fight is over. Consider well.
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Always good to rest in LIN TIRIAN, but never good to wear out my welcome.
Look for me in future turns. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--
Alarond the Scribe
