Bearing his jewel handled longsword on his right hip and a staff in his left hand the bearded manager began to walk down the line of new warriors for his guild. It had been years since females had been allowed into the combat on the sand, even though many of them went into the arena and fought without the "knowledge" of those who controlled the arena. Even though Wellington had had females fight for his stables, there had never been a full guild of women fighting. There had always been a male or a neuter within the guild to direct vile comments to, and there was no room for changing managerial styles all the sudden. In fact, it was his opinion the women would become disgusted with the smartly dressed manager. So he slowly strode in front of each warrior, inspecting them to make sure they would meet the requirements of the Femme Fatale guild. First in line was Lola, a shapely woman who looked as if she could move quickly around the ring. Lola winked at Wellington as he stared into her eyes saying, "Joe, you wanna take Lola some place tonight?" and his eyes became rigid. Taken aback, Lola glanced down at her sword and leaned upon the hilt in a leisurely stance. <Yes> Wellington thought to himself, <she will have the knack to distract the most hardened warrior in the right setting> Next was Lilith, who looked like she would be the most promising of all the conscripts. Seemingly innocent looking enough, she could tempt the most vile of demons into her control. Her gaze never met Wellington's, but the manager could sense a danger of interaction with this woman. She wore no armor nor handled a weapon in front of the manager, yet that did not mean she was not armed for battle. There were other weapons she possessed that a passer-by would not notice until it was too late. Estella Havisham was the third along the line Wellington walked within the fourth floor of the Lounge. Unusually, she had clad the armor she would wear within the arena, and still it did not detract from her beauty and appeal. Deception would be a trap for those who fought her in the arena. There was a sense of histories with her that encompassed a privileged life, but for some reason this woman choose the trappings of a warrior's life within Alastari. Clodia's eyes were always upon any man who was within her gaze, and the weathered manager was no exception as he stared at the warrior in front of him. Here was another woman who brought a bristle to Wellington's neck as he passed, even though he would never forgive the information. She also was without a weapon, and without armor, and only wore a toga while having her hair placed behind a band on her high-forehead. Her beauty was hypnotizing and it would play in her hands while on the sands. Delilah was the last on line and the most mysterious of all the ladies. There was a certain sense of intrigue within her beauty along with confusion that could be sensed as Wellington walked by. Somewhere in his head a feminine voice sang, "You're just a sucker for the ones who use you." The lyric was haunting and nearly made Wellington despondent and retract within his own mind, but the manager had dabbled with white magic hundreds of years ago and sensed this was a spell the last woman was trying to cast, which he was able to combat. Her magic was strong and would play well for her needs outside of the arena. Wellington would need to speak to her privately before allowing her to wonder upon the sands for he felt it was more upstanding for a warrior to defeat another on a physical basis and not the mental plane of magic. Those powers would come in handy in battle of other kinds. Once to the end of the line Wellington turned around and decreed, "training will start tomorrow at dawn at the facility outside of the city. You will come ready to fight the way you plan to fight in the arena. Good day to you ladies." <Well, there was an interesting morning within the lounge. Only time will tell if this will be a well-planned endeavor within ShadowSpire,> he thought to himself. Once the warriors had retired to their quarters, Wellington retired to his office and began to think about the way these ladies should be trained in battle. The glow of the portal cast the room in a purple tint, contrasting sharply with the bright green glow of the warding runes etched in walls, floor and ceiling. A thin figure in dark robes stepped through the portal and onto the protective circle carved into the floor. His staff tapped the ground as he took a few steps forward and then turned back to face the portal. The purple glow illuminated the man's beard and gave the skin of his hands an eerie, sickly pallor. The upper half of his face remained shadowed by the hood of his robe. He raised his free hand and performed a series of complex gestures while incanting words of power. After a few moments of nothing happening he grunted and repeated the process, this time louder. Again, there appeared to be no result. The man strode back toward the portal and examined it for a few moments. He leaned around the edge of the portal to look at the back side. He then stepped back and considered his options for a few moments while scratching his goatee. Then, with a shrug, he reached out with his right foot and kicked the edge of the shimmering portal. With a soft popping sound, the portal vanished. With the portal closed, the warding runes and protective circle both stopped glowing, letting the natural light of the afternoon sun through the skylight illuminate the room. With a sigh, the mage flipped back his hood, revealing him to be a man in his mid twenties. His grey eyes sat deeply under thick black eyebrows and his long dark goatee appeared almost out of place without an accompanying mustache. The man strode from the room, through what appeared to be a laboratory or workshop of some kind. He glanced once around the disorganized piles of paper and equipment and made yet another mental note that he needed to straighten this place out eventually. He made his way to a spiral staircase and started down. He passed another floor occupied by a large common room with several doors leading to individual sleeping quarters for the team of gladiators who lived there. Next, was a floor filled with crates, boxes and various other items in storage. Finally, he reached the ground floor and stepped off the staircase rather than proceeding down further into the basement. He walked out into the hallway and noticed the sounds of patrons in the store at the front of the building. He started to head in the opposite direction, past an open office door, when a high-pitched voice accosted him. "Oh no you don't! Yer not sneakin' by me that easy, Drake!" came the voice of the hardware store's manager. "You an' me gotta talk." "Hey, Joey," Drake said. Forcing a smile onto his face he stepped into the gremlin's office to hear the complaints he knew were coming. After all, that seemed to have become the normal routine since opening the store in Shadowspire to help off set the team's training expenses. "What's up?" "I'll tell you what ain't up. My hirin' budget! We're still short-staffed here." "Look, Joey, you know we don't have the budg--" "Don't you give me that budget excuse again!" Joey hopped down from his chair, walked out from behind his desk and straight up to Drake. Pulling himself up to his full height, he began poking the arena manager in the knee. "Have you taken a look at the back-log of orders we've got piled up? 'The Last Hope' 's lookin' for an extra oven, some place called 'The Gringolet Lounge' put in an order for several new cash drawers and a dishwasher, half the guildhouses are wantin' all kinds of lamps, computers, washer-drier combos and every frinkin' scum in the arena wants an automatic armor polisher. Plus forty-seven electrical generators to power it all. Forty-seven! Do you have any idea how long it takes to bind FORTY-SEVEN lighting elementals?! My boys are puttin' in 18 hour days down in the workshop and we still can't keep up. You've got to get me more help here." "Okay, okay! I'll take a look at the numbers," Drake said. "Is that it?" "Of course not! Not with *your* big mouth anyway." "What are you talking about?" "Oh, what am I talking about? Well, how about that manager of one o' the other teams, Dan, Don, Deirdre, whatever his name was? He comes around sayin' somethin' about slappin' you with a law suit because of what you said about him an' his buddies. Lucky for you he don't know jack about the law, which'll buy you a couple days, but you'll be needin' to get yourself a lawyer soon enough. (By the way, my nephew just graduated law school; I can get you a cheap rate.) Then, just a couple days ago this lady comes stormin' in here waivin' this honkin' great sword about and demandin' to see the owner of this establishment. I told 'er you wasn't here but she demanded to know where you were. I told her, 'Look he's out of town. Now put that over-sized letter-opener away and get out before I call the watch.' 'You can't call the watch on me,' she says, 'I'm a Lady Protector!' I tells her, 'I don't care if yer Sheila Frickin' Greywand, herself, yer in *my* store, scarin' *my* employees and disruptin' *my* business! Now get before I have t' call security.' Well, I did end up calling security t' toss her out. By the way, yer gonna need to hire a couple new security guys because those trolls you had up and quit. They said the job was too dangerous." "Great" Drake replied. "Where were Decker and Anvil during all this?" "Oh, don't think I didn't go have a word with *them* afterward. 'Drake just pays us t' trains his warriors, not act as bouncers' they said." "Oh, now that's gratitude for you. I buy them out of that Delarquan slave pen, give them their freedom, get them the training and equipment they need to win their way to the Isle and they can't help out when someone raises a ruckus in the store?" "You'd best take that up with them. Me, I don't care so long as you get me some new security and let me hire some more boys for the workshop." The gremlin glared up at Drake, tapping his foot expectantly. "Okay, fine," Drake said, giving in. "I'll up your hiring budget and I'll see about getting some new security. Maybe the Shewish Giant's got some free time when he's not working in the arena. Oh, speaking of the security incident, where can I find Decker and Anvil anyway?" "There out back puttin' the new recruit through her paces." "Okay. So, what do you think of the new one?" "What do *I* think? What, I don't have enough goin' on that you want me evaluatin' yer new recuits for ya? *You* don't pay me enough for the workload I got as it is and now yer wantin' me ta do *your* job?!" "Hey, sorry I asked. I'll go talk to Decker & Anvil." "Yeah, fine. Get out of my office so I can get some work done." The gremlin turned around and stalked back to his desk. Drake watched a moment while Joey climbed up the step-stool and plopped himself on top of the stack of phone books so he could reach the top of the desk while sitting in the office chair. Drake then turned and walked out of the office. He made his way toward the back of the guildhouse/hardware store. After a minute it occurred to him that, being the one signing the checks (not to mention being a good four and one-half feet taller than the gremlin), he probably shouldn't let Joey talk to him that way. He walked out onto the back porch. Once he got there the sounds of the store briefly mingled with the sounds of the training going on out in the back lot before finally being overcome with the noise of clashing metal and shouted instructions. "GET A MOVE ON YOU MAGGOTS! YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY BE TIRED YET! BACK IN MY DAY I WAS EXPECTED TO WORK OUT IN FULL KIT! I'M TALKIN' FULL PLATE ARMOR, FULL HELM AND SIX, THAT'S RIGHT *SIX* LARGE SHIELDS! AND I WAS EXPECTED TO GO FOR *TWENTY*PLUS*MINUTES*!!!! YOU PANZIES AREN'T WORTH THE SWEAT OFF MY BA--" "Hey, Anvil" Drake shouted to the Lord Protector leading the current team members on a run around the perimeter of the lot. Decker was in the central fighting pit running the new recruit through a series of weapon drills. Anvil turned at the PG-rating-required interruption to see his manager walking down the back steps. "Oh, hey Drake. NO ONE SAID YOU MAGGOTS COULD STOP! KEEP RUNNIN'! I'LL GET BACK TO YOU ONCE I'M DONE WITH THE *IMPORTANT* BUSINESS!" "Hey. How's the new one lookin'?" Drake asked as Anvil walked over. "Oh, she's not bad. Bit on the scrawny side but she's got some fight in her. With a little seasoning she could show the fans a thing or two." "Good. Hey, I heard there was a bit of trouble in the store a few days ago." "Oh," Anvil said, having the grace to look chagrinned, "You heard about that huh?" "Yeah. So why didn't you guys lend a hand?" "Hey, you didn't see this lady. She looked ready to kill someone." "Oh, sure. My first two graduates ever. Great big bad Lord Protectors can't help out with a little disruption in the store. Sure she's made it to the Isle herself but there were *two* of you. *You've* faced off against trolls, giants, brigands, Lake Monsters, Primus inductees, chaos monsters and who knows what else. Besides, if she did kill you, you'd get resurrected anyway." "Yeah, but this chick was *scary*." "Oh good grief." Drake rolled his eyes. "Fine, whatever. Just, when you're finished up with the training, come see me in my office upstairs. We need to discuss strategy on how we're going to handle avenging Gygg's death." "Yeah, sure, no problem." Anvil turned back to the team. "HEY, ANN, NO SLACKIN' OFF! YOU CARRY *MY* NAME, YOU TRAIN AND FIGHT TO *MY* STANDARDS!" Drake turned back to the guildhouse, taking a moment to look up at the two storey structure. He thought briefly about having an elevator installed rather than climb back up three flights of stairs, but getting an elevator shaft and all attendant equipment to cross into a pocket dimension would be trickier than doing it with the stairwells had been. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Life in the New City "Bricks are supposed to be red! Not--" exasperated, Master Beru searched the paper for the term used in the description. "Cerise!! What is the deal here?" The graying gentleman spun to face Isindra. Isindra Merrill radiantly overlooked the construction in a newly purchased blue silk dress which followed her body admirably. The dress revealed a fleshy woman with an ample bosom and a pleasantly slender waist. Her appearance staggered on the edge of conservative, pushed nearly to the breaking point with newly colored black hair and the latest face paints and eyebrow coloring. The transformation occurred over a two day period while Master Beru was traveling. Upon his return, he threatened to call the authorities when he found her flipping through the counting books. His concerns faded as she explained the changes. He soon discovered that her new appearance was tough on him. Her beauty confused his estimate of her intelligence, creating a constant war within him that he normally enjoyed evading when he traveled. Yet, while CHILDHOOD HEROES struggled to get a foothold in the new arena, Isindra's efforts flooded the counting house with coins each week. To her credit, he listed four merchants freshly set up, three local merchants partnered with, a burial service that had won a partial contract with the arena, two drinking establishments, a partner interest in two houses of 'loose morals', a horse farm, and more farms around the town than he could count on his fingers. As he acquainted himself with her new form, he added to the list two seamstress shops as well as four blacksmiths. Whatever her vices, the woman understood business. Now her stare calmly considered his reaction. Her hand reached over and took a grip on the paper firmly. He decided to let her have the paper rather than seeing it torn asunder. As the yellowed sheet slid free of his hand, Master Beru examined the sign above the doorway. The darkened wood swayed gently, "MBIM Counting" written in bold, block letters. "Sir, these are the best materials available at the prices you requested. I can get the color you prefer, but it will mean additional funds." Her face resolutely refused to show any weakness as she matched his stare. Her changes appeared to stretch beyond the physical. Letting out a breath, Master Beru conceded, "The color will do. You did your best." <Outside Gringolet s> "Come on, Papa! Let's get some brews!" "You go ahead. I think I'm going to stay out here with Snake." "Ah, come-on. Just a few drinks. He should come in also." "No. No, my mind is made up. None for me, Brother." "Okay, but you're missing out--" Big Brother headed for the door as Papa Smurf pointed to a small restaurant nearby with tables outside. As they took seats, the small blue fella ordered a couple of lemonades and watched the steady throng of people moving toward Gringolet's. Beside him, Snake Eyes watched in silence. Both quickly lost in their Thoughts. <In a small hut somewhere on the outskirts of town> A hand knocked on the battered wooden door. The door swung open revealing a form concealed in a cloak. The form looked up momentarily before stepping over the threshold. As the door shut, a voice was raised, "YOU STUPID--" + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + ALE HOUSE MERCS Pauly looked down on the sands from the managers box as Grolsch cleaned his weapon over the now still body of Grok. Death was one of the many unfortunate side effects of being a gladiator. As Pauly stood to leave, he saw Nomad in his box across the arena, staring down, as his lifeless warrior was carried from the arena. He looked up, locking eyes with Pauly, an unreadable expression on his face. Pauly nodded once, and exited the managers box. Pauly had never met Nomad, so he had no idea what to expect. However he reacted, a bloodfeud was assuredly coming and Pauly would be waiting. Pauly reflected on his third straight 2-3 turn. A mediocre start to be sure, but as long as he had any ocre at all, Pauly was a happy man. After all, it could be much worse. He could be having Indimar's luck, which is to say, none at all. As he walked down the now thriving streets of Shadowspire, Pauly looked above the hive of activity to look at the mountains that gave the city its name. For the most part, it was an unremarkable range, but one mountain climbed above the rest. As it rose higher and higher, it became narrower, until a single spire disappeared into the clouds. Even on a clear day, it was hard to discern where it ended. After more than two months in Shadowspire, it was still an awe inspiring site. Most say it was named Shadowspire because of the long shadows it would cast in the early morning and late afternoon. Others say it was named so, because of some fell power that resides in the peak, and all those who seek it out, are never seen again. Or some variation of the same story, as everyone who believed in an evil presence in the mountain had their own spin. Pauly wasn\'t sure what to believe, but he knew their was only one way to find out the truth, and before he could do that he needed to find someone. Pauly noticed a steady stream of people heading back toward the arena, which was strange since his warrior had fought the last fight of the day. Pauly found his answer when he came upon a boy selling the arena newsletter, hot off the presses. Pauly put his search on hold as he bought a copy and scanned through the pages. Suddenly, his eyes instinctively froze on two words: "Free Drink". Pauly quickly read the ad, and immediately headed back to the arena and the newly opened Gringolet Lounge. Shouldering his way through the throng of people, Pauly finally made it to the bar. Waving the ad he had ripped out of the newsletter at a bartender, Pauly yelled, "Hey, I'm here for the free drink!" The overwhelmed bartender poured an ale and handed it to Pauly, as more than fifty other patrons were yelling the same thing, waving newsletters around. Pauly lifted the mug and took a healthy pull. He was pleasantly surprised to find it was excellent ale. Usually, when free drinks are handed out, you got the cheap stuff. As Pauly glanced around, he could see that JGW was sparing no expense in getting his enterprise off the ground. The man himself was on the second floor, leaning on the railing, a pleased look on his face as he observed the action below. And though he was handing out free drinks at the moment, soon enough copper and silver and gold would begin to flow into his coffers as quick as the ale could be poured. Ale was much like a potato chip. You could never have just one. Pauly caught sight of Nuln, resplendent in his Chaos Armor (tm), approaching the other end of the bar. He had missed the second turn for mysterious reasons. Pauly just figured he was screwing around in the Chaos Plains. Nuln pulled out the ad for a free drink, when JGW's voice rang out over the noisy bar patrons. "Hey Nuln! You already got your freeby!" With a look of hurt innocence on his face, Nuln responded, "I haven't had one yet, I swear! It must of been some other guy that looked like me!" JGW laughed loudly, a look of amusement on his face. "Yeah right. It was some other guy wearing Pulsating Blood Red Chaos Armor (tm). We don't get too many Chaos Lords (tm) around here, so next time you try to pull a fast one, you might want to dress a little less conspicuous." Nuln's mouth curved into a sheepish grin as he shrugged his shoulders and spread his arms wide. "Hey, can't blame me for trying, can ya?" As Pauly laughed he saw another familiar face sitting in the corner. Despite being extremely busy, everyone seemed to be giving the solitary figure a wide berth. Most likely because no one wanted his bad luck to rub off on them. Pauly walked over and sat down across from the man he was looking for. Indimar Fallon. "Hey dad, um, how are you doing?", asked Pauly. Indimar raised his head with a look of disgust on his face, "How am I doing? How do you think I'm doing? I've got the worst record of all the teams that have been here all three turns! Now go bug someone else, or you'll wish I had never met your mother." "Hey," replied Pauly, "don't take it so hard. It's early. Three or four turns from now, you could have the best record. Now cheer up." "Bite me," answered Indimar, obviously a little drunk. "Nice dad, real mature," said Pauly, rolling his eyes, "Anyways, I'm about to embark on a fairly dangerous adventure, and thought you might like to come along. It would take your mind off your current problems, that's for sure." "How dangerous?", asked Indimar. "Well," thought Pauly, "I'm bringing along five random henchmen, none of which I expect to survive. *We* should make back alright though. I don't know why, but I just have this feeling that I'm totally in control of what happens to me. It's weird." "Well," said Indimar, "why not. I've got nothing to lose expect for a few tattered shreds of dignity and self respect. Where are we going?" Pauly leaned back in his chair and the picture zoomed in on his face, a look of total seriousness upon it, as he said, "To the top of Shadowspire Mountain." DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!! (This epic tale will be continued at irregular intervals, depending on if I have nothing better to do. Pauly.) + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + The storm raged around Shadowspire, thunderheads battering the city with a noise that could be felt as well as heard, massive strokes of lightning blazing across the sky, blinding in theirferocity as a small group of people slowly made their way through the downpour. The six figures progress drew the few eyes of the locals that were out this day as they were the only ones NOT hurrying and scurrying to get out of the storm as quickly as possible. The lone constable walking a beat in this section of town was about to ask them their business until he caught a glimpse of a crest on the chest of the largest figure, revealed as a gust of wind blew his cloak aside. Recognizing the flaming sowrd bisecting an ebon sphere as that of the manager of The Basik's Own, a team from the arena, he remembered that one of their warriors had been slain in the last cycle's fighting. Bowing his head in a small gesture of repect for their mourning, he let the group pass, again grateful he had chosen to enforce the law as opposed to earning his living in the arena. *** * *** Pushing the door shut with a heavy thump, Kendric turned to the rest of the group as he began gathering the cloaks and hanging them to dry. "Erkym, go stoke the fire, would you? Barry, would you and Callie go scrounge up some mulled wine or cider, please? The rest of us will meet you in the den." Motioning Airyc ahead of him, he draped an arm around his wife's shoulders and pulled her close as they followed behind the young man. "I knew it would happen sometime, I just hadn't expected it on our first cycle. I'd wanted them all to get comfortable in the arena before..." his voice trailed off in a deep, rumbling sigh. "I know, Ken," his wife responded. "We went a long time back when we first started before we lost our first." Dio's voice caught ever so slightly at the remembrance of her brother's death. "They'll pull through. I just hope we can keep them from doing anything stupid before they've adjusted to the loss of Chum." The conversation stilled as the pair entered the den, already warming as a large fire blazed on the hearth. Erkym and Airyc had taken seats on one of the somewhat shabby looking couches and were waiting, each lost in their own thoughts. Kendric and Dio found seats near each other as Barodan and Callina returned from the kitchen, each carrying e flagons of steaming mulled wine which they proceeded to distribute before finding their own seats. "To Chum, a more loyal friend I've never known," Rumbled Barodan, raising his flagon in toast. A soft echo followed his toast. "To absent friends," Dio said softly. The echo was even quieter as all remembered friends they'd lost over the years. "To revenge," declared Callina, her voice edged with hate. "I hope I get the chance to make that Vynar pay." + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + ****************************** * * * SHADOWSPIRE YELLOW PRESS * * * ****************************** A STUDY IN DEATH. It is so correct that I would have the unique honor to be the first ever Duelmaster in Shadowspire. A good friend of Mr. Freeze's who goes by the name of Webster defines an Alberta Clipper as "a storm that ushers in bitter outbreaks of polar air, which continue the storm's wrath for days after the low itself has moved off. Combine strong northerly winds and bitterly cold temperatures in the storm's wake, and you get severe ground blizzards, days of white-outs, and dangerous wind-chill factors." Sometimes a name says it all! I arrive like a force of nature and I can't be stopped until I decide to move on. So bring your swords and shields and mittens--if you've never fought in a snow storm you just don't know what you're missing. I want to thank all of you that bought me drinks in celebration--of course I only like those frozen drinks, you know the ones with the little Umbrellas. I also need to send a shout out to the rest of the team--I got the individual gold but without my partners we could not have the Top Team three turns running. Mr. Freeze has been so happy he even gave us all a bonus--three ice cubes (and none of them were mixed with yeloow snow). I hope the storm winds keep blowing --one way or another it has been a blast! -- Alberta (you can call me AL) Clipper SPY REPORT It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is LIFE IMPACTS, who swept up 14 places in the ranks. Take a look at CHILDHOOD HEROES' act, as they have a 2-3-0 week and gain 15 places in the team ranking. A seasoned team is steady in the lists. But to CLAN LONGBEARD, which fell to 23rd, it's what you soak in before going to the Dark Arena. Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is ETERNAL ABYSS, who swept up 11 places in the ranks. What goes up, must come down. Watch out SHADOWSPIRE! BATTLE GRUNTS may fall on you as it crushes past the teams below it to fall on the 31st spot. Suffering under a 1-4-0 record and dropping from 16th to 34th place were the DRAKE'S HARDWARE. Keep trying! Advancing in the rankings was CULT OF BACCHUS who went from last turn's 8-5-1, to this week's record of 12-6-1. OF WOLF AND MAN seems to have it's eye on the top team spot, and if they continue having 4-1-1 weeks they may get it! Hey everybody, watch out for GROND, who flew up 21 points in the rankings after mashing NIGHT FANG like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. KREK was overcame by EDWARD GOREY and drops 12 points. NAEL GHUN got through to the Duelmaster this turn. No doubt he was more than anxious to kick ALBERTA CLIPPER's tail out of the throne! Well, everybody's pal ALBERTA CLIPPER moved his record to 4-0-0 by defeating NAEL GHUN in the Duelmaster's Title Bout and gaining 5 recognition points. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger halberd! Here is other news that is of note. Did you hear that LA PENTARCHIE was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the personal hygiene of LA PENTARCHIE's warriors, I'm not surprised! And you guys like to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause VAMPIRATES beats feet every time LA PENTARCHIE smiles at them. Try farming, eh? Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, ALUMINUM WALKER would be president. Although it may be a contest it doesn't want to win. GRANITE of BATTLE GRUNTS had better have a good reason for challenging down 9 points in a challenge which he lost. I thought GRANITE showed great skill and promise when he was subdued by ERKYM POLL. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). We might as well mark the passing of KOQUISHA, who was relatively new to the arena at 3-1-0. Probably killed before hers first shave. Yes, and another newbie bites the dust as SERINA goes down under the sword of '69 CHARGER. Thanks to this, '69 CHARGER now has 33 recognition points. Well, just when you thought it was safe to put a new warrior in the arena. No no! NIGHT FANG, a mere boy, was slain by GROND this turn. Congrats to ANN VYL for revenging the death of hers teammate (but more importantly, feeding BARKILY a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, IMPORT-EXPORT was mashed by FULL MOON SWOON, who let IMPORT-EXPORT know that killing members of RAGNAROK'S WOLVES is a no-no. Congrats to FULL MOON SWOON for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding IMPORT-EXPORT a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, '69 MUSTANG BOSS was mashed by BRUTAL BOB, who let '69 MUSTANG BOSS know that killing members of KNIGHTBLADE is a no-no. Congrats to BOREC for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding SPONGE BATH a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, SPONGE BATH was mashed by BOREC, who let SPONGE BATH know that killing members of BLADESMEN is a no-no. Congrats to AIRYC ZYRR for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding VYNAR a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, WONDER WOMAN was mashed by BRENDAN BEHAN, who let WONDER WOMAN know that killing members of LITERATE LOONS is a no-no. Congrats to ANVIL IRONFIST for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding GROLSCH a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, CALYPSO TAN was mashed by MCBAIN, who let CALYPSO TAN know that killing members of FUCHI OWNED is a no-no. Remember: alliances are great, but try and take your ally in the arena with you and see what happens. Well, there's the manager of the SHADOWSPIRE giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Well, there goes another Spy Report. Good luck in next week's fights. A hearty congratulations to those who may have fared well--but those good feelings will be gone by the morrow. -- Kayelbe, mgr DAGGERS DEEP Damn... M. Freeze is stealing the show! Best team ok, but the duelmaster too, it's too much! Don't keep all the glory in a freezer. -- Le Pentarque Rhaaa -- I'm a killer! Kill! Kill! Kill! My manager says: aim for the arm, win but don't kill... aha ah ah I don't care I wanna kill! -- Import-Export I guess his name is stronger than me. I met a guy from Russia with a face from a B- movie, and when I asked him what he was doing, he said: "Import-export"... -- Le Pentarque Well, Smitty, I feel a little bad about my tribute: seems a little crappy... hum... we will see... -- La Pentarque Hammer, nobody can beat you on writing... -- Le P. Yep, Aldebaran, you hit hard... my manager put you on his little papers... Consortium? Your French is splendid, Seigneur Xiang! -- Le Pentarque Alberta Clipper -- Yuh brute! Ya skunkfacer! Congrats on yer bein first champeen. -- Smitty Pavlov -- You had me slobbering like those dogs, you cad! -- C.H.S. Consortium Old Folks Home Spot? LOVED it! Especially the games. Lots of chuckles. Well done! -- The Consortium Elders Apex -- Smitty truly thanks you for the bribe, er, a, contribution, but he is unwilling to commit his vote to you for Chairman at this time. Later perhaps? After the additional twenty good roll-up sheets arrive? -- The Life Impacts Scribe & Treasurer Yowser! Round three! Done! Kaput! Hain't likin it atal. Nope! -- Smitty Frosty -- Next time I shall bring my shawl. -- Mrs. Vaughn Djaimz -- I enjoyed melting you like that. -- Extrusion Plaguenog -- Can you be nicer to me? Lose? -- Purple Ace Brutal Bob -- I should have won that! How could you? I will have a load of bricks dumped on you, Bud! -- Cantex Angry Dawg, aka Angrendraud, eye cane spel -- Indede. -- Extrusion Lord X -- Whachewsay? -- Smitty Master Drake -- Yuh skunkfacer! Ya done ketched me. Wet muh britches! -- Smitty JGW -- Thank you for the very nice comments. -- The Consortium Folk 69 Charger! What a love! The very first new car Smitty (the real life Smitty) ever owned was a yellow with black bumblebee striped 69 Dodge Charger! Raw speed! Raw noise! True love! -- Wayne Smith All, please be nicer to The Life Impacts team. You must better learn to respect your elders! -- The Life Impacts Publicity Committee Grolsch -- Looked like a little unnecessary editing took place last turn but I get the point as wee anddragonbaneguild look forward to spillin a bit more of your puddleblood in the future. -- e.e. cummings Celegdraug -- Match-ups?! I had the most favorable match-up of all time round 3 and still ended up with my head up my [bleep]. -- Brendan Behan Wonder Woman -- There must've been some sort of super power on display for me to lose the jump in that one. I feel, strangely...compelled...to tell...the truth...I stink. -- Brendan Behan Powr Goreslinger -- Stout-hearted effort, but not quite Gorey enough. -- Edward Kiri Facade -- Congratulations, I think you've done it! I believe you've managed to draw out the most humiliating spy report reference in the short history of our beloved arena. Thank God for small blessings.... -- J.G. Ballard Colostomy Bag -- I think you need to empty your bag. -- Theta The Big Lie -- You should change your name to "The Big Empty." -- Full Moon Swoon Import-Export -- Now I owe you for two deaths! Fun times ahead. -- Var Boing!! -- Nice weapon. Even I could dodge that thing. -- Junkyard Dogma All -- I'm looking for a few good scum! Some warriors more interested in imitating pillars than actually fighting. I know there are plenty in this arena and I want to see who is the best. No armor or weapons, just a good ole fashioned stare-off. If you are interested in matching up against my guy or another person's guy please respond in the PA's next turn. I'd like to get it started asap before people start moving out of reach of each other in the rankings. I'd like to start around turn 8. More details later, when I see what the response is. Only the best need to apply! -- Var The Saint, Keeper of Lists -- I've noticed many managers have adjectives or titles as part of their name (Lord, General, Master, Detective, Philthy...) I was wondering if there were any good ideas for me. I enjoy athletic competitions, so maybe "Sporting" might be a good choice...then again maybe not. Anybody else have any ideas? -- Woody Once didn't mean much, twice--well maybe it was luck, three times top team--what can I say except my boys are just a bunch of fighting fools. I want to say thanks to all of our victims--we couldn't have done it without you. 12-3 for three rounds--I would take that anytime, any place! When you are on top of the mountain the air is so cold and pure--I just love it. I don't know how long this will last but I am going to enjoy the ride while I can and JUST keep on CHILLIN. -- Mr. Freeze Hammer -- The reason I "avoid" is for the benifit of the fans--I want to keep them from having ugly match-ups brought about by petty challenges. Right now my boy AC has the big target on his chest so there is no way to avoid all challengers--I am sure at least one will get through. -- Mr. Freeze Brendan Behan -- Hon, I hate to have to point this out, but if you are out of breath just by walking into the arena this is probably not the line of work for you. Or did I misunderstand the fact that your first action was to 'pause to regain his strength'? -- Wonder Woman 76' Gran Torino -- Thanks for the challenge. Feel free to invite yourself again. -- SGT. YORK Rain of Embers -- Well that made me blue... -- Papa Smurf TRG Chinsnapper -- You probably got your blade clean faster than I healed!! -- Papa Smurf Hook -- I knew that I would regret not stopping at Starbucks that morning! -- Big Brother Djohey DJR. -- Snake-Eyes was not very pleased with his performance against you. -- Master Beru The Baron -- Snake-Eyes was remarkably shocked by your recommendation. He has expressed though that there may be some truth in it. He indicated that the uniform might have a 'wardrobe malfunction'. -- Master Beru Blackstorm -- Lifespark looks like my favorite kinda LU. Of course, true to my fortunes, he also got the kinda luck my LUers tend to get. -- Master Beru Rillion -- Well I do strive to help any and all in whatever way possible. -- Master Beru Hammer -- All I can say about your supplies is that I have seen coin which can be traced back to you. Due to a request for Anonymity I am unable to say more. -- Master Beru P.S. Congrats on the 81 personals. Have you considered doing that for 81 turns in a row as another record to beat? No! -- Temp Ed. Lord Xiang -- The goose weren't but the eggs!! -- Master Beru Chaucer -- That's one. We will miss Zanzibar's witty comments around the guildhall, but at least we know his death has been avenged. Perhaps you can write a poem about your wounds? -- Aldebaran Grolsch -- Why? A 7' Aimer like Grok could have had some fun in this arena if he had simply been able to survive long enough to issue challenges. Now we will be forced to give you some sorrows to drown in your ale. -- Dragonbane Guild Hazer -- A challenge! Ooh...aren't those supposed to favor the challenger? Guess not. -- Anvil Ironfist Doris -- You looked dangerous when you walked out there, then, well, you started to swing and it all went South on you from that point. Maybe that train will help you hold up that weapon for a bit. -- The Baron JGW -- Always like to have a good time. I am sure you will see me at your fine establishment many many times. I hope you have a large selection of wines, because after all Bacchus is the God of Wine. -- DeGotti Fulton -- See karma will get ya every time! Now do I down challenge ya or skill rape ya? -- DeGotti Rillion, Hammer & Lord Xiang -- I am very glad to be here. I think this arena has a great mixture of managers and I look forward to crossing swords with them all. -- DeGotti Kat -- You are now the proud owner of the lowest dead ID number in the arena. Unfortunate for you! Make sure you giftwrap it for the next manager! -- DeGotti Bladesmen -- I see you sent Mariq after me again. The first fight didn't prove to you that it was a bad idea? Well, as the morgue can attest, my blade is still sharp enough to kill. I wonder who you shall send to the slaughter next? -- Sponge Bath Ghost of Mariq -- What was your boss thinking? I respect your wish to avenge your fallen comrade, but why would you come after me once again after I beat you so handedly the FIRST time? -- Sponge Bath Blackstorm -- Bloodfeuds are supposed to be nasty, my friend! Blood and revenge are an excellent combo. -- Lord Xiang, mgr AARP Consortium Elders -- 'Talk of the town?' Indeed, it IS the town. What else is there to talk about here? -- Lord Xiang, the curious P.S. A big welcome back at ya! Rillion -- I hope so, as well. Each turn, we seem to be increasing in numbers. Who knows? Perhaps we will have a team here from every active manager someday? :D -- Lord Xiang Ed. -- Just because the writing could be as disturbing as Aradi doesn't mean that it will be an Aradi knockoff. I would not be here if it were (one Aradi is enough, thank-you-very-much). Just remember, Nuln is in the arena already, and only the addition of Soultaker would cause this town to be as disturbing as Aradi. No writing required, IMO. -- Lord Xiang Um. Thank you for your opinion. -- Temp Ed. Rillion -- I use the Commissions golem for submitting ads almost exclusively. It is a great tool for the procrastinators among us! :D -- Lord Xiang Sleazy Susan -- It may very well be that I could not teach you anything. It is possible...probable, even. -- Long Nose Hairs Hammer -- Wouldn't have missed it for the world! *grin* -- Lord Xiang Ed. -- If you tell me that the only export from Aradi is Scrod, I'll find a way to swamp you in Scrod at the Commission HQ! -- Lord Xiang Ah, but Ed. does not operate out of HQ. -- Temp Ed. P.S. Neither do I. JGW -- Of COURSE I'm going to stay around! As for the winning ways, I'm planning on continuing them. My opponents, however, might have other ideas. -- Lord Xiang JGW -- The kudos are almost all Doc LeGrand's. I know, I know, a humble Delarquan. But I will not take credit for the final product. That is all Deke. I was the one whose idea flopped. -- Lord Xiang Myk -- I'm really a fragile warrior. Stop doing that! -- Long Nose Hairs Theta -- I hope you cleaned up right after our fight. You know what happens when you break open a... -- Colostomy Bag Snow Cone -- The one thing you need to remember is that frozen things melt when possessed by somebody in an... -- Aluminum Walker Lola -- An impressive fight, my dear. Perhaps we could visit the Gringolet Lounge together after this round of fights. -- 4' Thick Glasses P.S. What DO you look like, anyway??? Chayn Saugn -- One thing about us half-breeds is that we often don't know. Okay, maybe it is a Gladiator thing, General. How many here know who their fathers are? -- Borec Sponge Bath -- We agree and salute you. At this rate your entire career will be against us. -- Bladesmen P.S. I think you ought to take that blade to the weaponsmith. It seems to be getting dull. Never Scrub -- A moment of silence for you. -- Allana D'rav Lord Xiang -- Thank you for the welcome. My original arena was Simtakka. I was a gladiator fighting for Killjoy, mgr of Til Death Do Us Part. I went by the name Man- O-War there. We moved the team to Dal Shang when it closed (actually, I am still there on a mission). I'm glad to have my chance at actually running a team now. They're all from my home country of Kekoral, a kingdon North of Lirith Kai, by the Karian Sea. -- Aranthar Rillion -- That sounds fair to me. -- Allana D'rav P.S. Sorry that happened, for what it's worth. All -- Wow! This place is exciting. So, where is the party tonight? -- Alema D'rav Lord Xiang -- The sad thing is, that wasn't meant to be TOGS style. I'm just that weird. That's why I can't wait for the next TOGS. I wrote a spot this cycle, but I turned the TOGSitude down to low. -- Pauly TGG -- Mark my words, we *will* meet again... Probably not in a TC fight, but, you know, around. -- Pauly Nuln -- You're dead to me. -- Pauly JGW -- I hope you don't mind that I used the Gringolet Lounge in my spot, but hey, it's just the place to be. -- Pauly Indimar -- You are one pathetic loser. No offense. -- Pauly P.S. I fell off the jetway again. Nomad -- Grolsch awaits your bloodfeud. Um, I don't suppose I could ask you to go easy on him? -- Pauly Elephant -- Hey, it's probably better this way. Now you can start ripping on Indimar without fear of exposing yourself. -- Pauly Hombre -- Did you know Indimar called me laughing when he found out he killed your guy? What a cold hearted bastard. I would blood feud all four turns. -- Pauly Nuln -- Ahh, I can't stay mad at you. -- Pauly Does this mean he's alive to you again? Dark Enclave -- Next! -- Necromouser Vygotsky -- Mouse of Pain said it only takes two hits to drop you. Guess he was right. Next time you place a challenge, target somebody in your own league. May I suggest Lifespark? -- Cheshire Rat Celegdraug -- It literally hurts to be this popular. -- Micepick We heard there were rats at The Gringolet Lounge. A good infestation is hard to find, so we're excited to check the place out. I hope they serve a good Gin and Bubonic. -- Rodent Clan Vynar -- While Chum wasn't the best warrior we'd ever seen, we were hoping he'd hang around a bit longer. Best be prepared to meet at least one more of our warriors. -- Kendric and Dio, The Basik's Own Toby -- Geez...you sure are a lousy teacher. -- Callina Aillard Urik -- That was a well fought bout. Perhaps I'll get a chance to swing another time. -- Erkym Poll Lilith -- Well, it seems I'm a pretty damn good teacher. Too bad I wasn't paying attention to the things I SHOULD have been, I might have learned a bit more myself. -- Airyc Zyrr P.S. Can I buy you a drink at your preferred drinking establishment? *grin* McBain -- And didn't they tell me this as after being difficult? At least I was able to be making you work a bit for the victory. If we're to be meeting again in the future, I'll be after trying a wee bit harder. -- Barodan Hammer, MoW, SSS, FBM, etc, etc -- *grin* Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to continue writing entertaining stories. -- Kendric All -- I'm in the process of gathering data for publishing a Semester Report of the goings on here in arena 81 (due out on Turn 14). If you've never seen one, check out the North Fork (47) newsletter from turn 241 to see the latest installment for that arena. So far the data gathering is going smoothly, however one area that I'm lacking info on is current alliance affiliations. I have a few (mostly culled from Terrablood's census data) but I'm sure I'm missing quite a bit. So if anyone can fill me in on which teams are associated with what alliance, I'd greatly appreciate it. -- Drake Den -- I was simply making note of the turn 1 kills by your alliance. That's what I like about you AA folks, you're so easy to rile up. So long as you're actually participating, the personals are rarely boring. They may not qualifiy as fine literature, but they're not boring. -- Drake P.S. Slander is spoken. When something deliberately defamatory is written, it's called libel. You might want to make sure your own linguistics are perfect before you start taking shots at those of anyone else. P.P.S. Before you get too excited about legal action, however, consider the fact that absolutely no one would ever believe that the AA would make a friend. Thus it's self-evident that my post was satire; making it exempt from libel charges. Crambus -- There's more to making friends than speech. -- Drake Hammer -- Well, as you can see from last turn's personals, it didn't take much to get Den & crew going. -- Drake P.S. Sometimes they make it too easy. Hammer -- We shall see who proves to be ze greatest Hammer in ze arena in ze long run. -- Jaques Hammyr Hammer -- So, you're saying that he bribed his way to that award, then. Well, that at least makes some sense. -- Ann Vyl Kendric -- *I* didn't go there. I was just offering a friendly warning against *others* who might go there. -- Drake P.S. I don't even have a road map to there, so there's no possible way that I could go even if I wanted to. Dio Ridenow -- Immortal or not, being a manager, you're not likely to find me on the sands anyway. Physical combat's not exactly my primary profession. Besides, all I did was offer some friendly advice and this is the thanks I get? Less than veiled threats of violence upon my person? Referring to me as an inferer and gauche eater of *butter*? I don't believe I've *ever* been so insulted. Your lack of gratitude, refinement and peace-bonded weaponry, m'lady, is truly astonishing. -- Drake P.S. Of course you have to put my first name on your list. I don't have a last. Czechvar -- Defense, my friend, you need to think defense. -- Chayn Saugh Barkily -- Gygg may not have been the greatest warrior ever fielded, but she was still one of mine. I have a strict policy against letting this kind of thing slide. -- Drake Angus -- Well you are fazter zan I expected. -- Jaques Hammyr Slogg -- You don't seem to take it near as well as you dish it. -- Nael Ghun ShadowSpire SwordPlayers -- History is made Each Cycle and I Freely Add to the ShadowSpire Legacy with one of my Shortest Spots and a Mere Four P-ads to Commemorate the Fourth Historic Turn of this Great Arena! -- Hammer / Minister of War / ShadowSpire Scribe / Free Blades Mercenary TGG -- The Sands of Time are Running Short to File Another Blood Feud this Cycle! -- Hammer / Minister of War / ShadowSpire Scribe / Free Blades Mercenary Erudite Ed and Helpers -- Thanks for Providing the Manager & Stable List Last Cycle! -- Hammer / Minister of War / ShadowSpire Scribe / Free Blades Mercenary ShadowSpire SwordPlayers -- Cycle Three Newsletter has Yet to Arrive so Perhaps in a Future Newsletter any Responses to Those Pages will Be Written! -- Hammer / Minister of War / ShadowSpire Scribe / Free Blades Mercenary Frosty -- You are a slippery avoider I will give you that. I would go after you again but you are too much of a down challenge at this point. *smirk wink* -- The Countess Shadowspire -- How am I supposed to test my strategy out if none of you can stand up for a whole minute? 3 fights with 3 wins in 3 minutes. *knocks on wood 3 times* -- Hook Dracularr -- YOU IDIOT WASTE OF A GOOD NAME! 3 strikes and you are out! -- Apocalypse Yes Master. -- Dracularr Speaking of Idiots, what happened to you Lost Boy? -- Apocalypse Apocalypse -- Maybe you shouldn't have put the word 'Lost' in my name? Thanks alot... -- Lost Boy Bloodrunner -- Nice job! Guess that is why I didn't make Lost Boy a Basher! Heh! I still think he can take ya though, if only they hadn't typoed his original Turn 1 offensive effort from a one to a ten!!! Guess I will never know since I didn't choose to fight him the same way twice. My bad Lost Boy... The best lessons are learned from failure though, right? Heh. -- Apocalypse Apocalypse -- Thanks alot!!! -- Lost Boy Lost Boy -- Keep talking smart guy and see what happens to ya... -- Apocalypse The Countess -- So how did you beat Frosty? -- Bloodbeard Rillion -- All the above mate. Someday I will get around to spinning the origin yarn. Til then -- Apocalypse Hammer -- Salute -- Apocalypse Has anyone seen a greater bunch of cowards then Assassin Nation and their leader? I was really looking forward to a blood feud from those ladies. First avoiding Bloodfeuds and now skipping turns. Do us all a favor and don't come back. And take Dracularr with you! -- Apocalypse All -- My apologies for not getting more out this turn in the way of personals. Been a busy and stressful week but everything has now officially "closed" so I should have bit more time next turn. -- Rillion All -- I plan to be here with a yet un-named team by this turn. I meant to be here from the beginning, but didn't make it. So see you all soon!!! -- Dark Knight Toker 14 February 2007 RSI is now taking rollups for a slow version of the No-Tournament arena.
