Mr. Sherman Goes to Shadowspire

Long ago and far away in Sherman's kingdom by the sea, there was a calamity.
Politics precede common sense, and Sherman--in response to effective grandstanding by
politicos--outlawed all migrant workers. They were competent, strong, and hard-
working, but most importantly, not very popular with the public. So they were
banished. And in response to Sherman's decree the men and women and children and
even the babies were all dancing in the streets. But then Sherman observed that
dancing babies didn't make much sense at all, so the babies were sent home to do baby
things. And they were all so happy.
Sherman, fat and content in his public opinion polls, ate and drank, and drank
and ate. He ate the biggest beef and drank the juiciest wines and was praised far
and wide, so that he began to wonder why he hadn't been so bright way back when. But
his doubts left him when he granted himself the medal of the Utmost Perfect Citizen
Award. His parade for himself was grand and joyous, everything he would've hoped
for, except it wasn't as big as the banishment party. But he figured that was
because of no more dancing babies.
Then one day the fat meat that came to him wasn't so fat and the plump fruit
wasn't so plump. He called his number one lackey and yelled, "Why isn't my meat so
fat and my fruit so plump?" His lackey, Edward, whimpered and cried, "My liege,
there is no one left to care for the cows or pick the fruit, so the stock is
neglected and the fields untended [whimper, whimper]."
Sherman was outraged, "So tell the workers to work more and the overseers to
yell more!"
"But sir", Edward whined, "the workers have all been banished, and the
supervisors cashed in their retirement accounts and moved to the geriatric
communities down south."
"How can this be", Sherman sputtered, "who's to feed me, what shall eat, and
most importantly, what about the wine-cellar?"
"Well", leered Edward, "I have an idea. Ever since those babies stopped
dancing, I've noticed they've been the only ones getting fatter and fatter, while
poor us, we've been getting smaller and smaller. It just doesn't seem right that so
much fresh meat should go to waste."
     "You don't mean...."
"It's only a passing thought, a possibility while moving from here to there."
     "And the public...."
"The internal polls are done, we're all on board, we all understand the
neccessity."
And so a new decree was passed to all the masses, but unfortunately, the masses
weren't too happy with it. For some reason they liked their fat plump little babies,
even if they couldn't dance very well. And the people decided maybe they didn't like
Sherman so much after all. So in the not-so-dark of a traditional mid-morning siesta
Sherman, Edward, a flunkey, a lackey, a manservant, and a follower gathered up their
tunics, girdles, and assorted condiments and headed to Shadowspire. And the older
babies the ones with overly-developed calf muscles, were able to dance again.

>>Aradi, Awhile Ago>>

Nuln slouched in his office, casually thumbing through the past week's mail, the
coffee not quite having hit the brain. Outside, a chicken made a gobbling noise.
Grabbing his Letter Opener of Doom (tm) with a fatalistic grimace, the Chaos Lord
(tm) went to work with a sudden gusto on the sealed paper packages. First to face
the LOoD's wrath was a missive from the Gladiatorial Commission, containing
instructions in Chaos-Speaketh on how to properly fill out his warrior's order forms.
Nuln made use of his trash can. Next were several notices of FONZ non-meeting dates,
which had already not occurred three months ago. Nuln practiced his lefty sky-hook,
nailing one off the gothic chandelier overhead, nearly knocking one of the lamps off.
In a large, bulky envelope from his agent were some press clippings of his latest
autobiography "Chaotic Times," and--
Nuln looked up as Goose the goose waddled sloppily into his office without a
knock, slapping down a disorganized heap of paperwork as he reached the Chaos Lord's
(tm) already disorganized desk. Unfortunately, the gallons of Olde English perfume
did nothing to mask the odor of gallons of malt liquor recently drunk, only adding to
Nuln's desire to play "toss the fowl out the window." Nuln eyed the portly bird
expectantly, trying to will a cohesive answer from his beak.
"Eeeeeeeeeeh-hem." Goose cleared his throat after a slight pause, causing Nuln
to drop his face into his hands. For a moment he wobbled, though in a perfect
spiral, then gathered himself, placing one wing on the pile of papers he'd just
brought in to steady himself. This was followed by a pause that continued close to
interminably.
"Whicheth arenas??" Nuln said slowly, like talking to small child or a drunk
goose.
"62 and 66! Filed and completed, sir, Nuln, sir!" Goose said after another
dangerously long moment of silence, mock saluting the Chaos Lord (tm) and pounding
the papers for added emphasis. Pausing again because he was enjoying it now, Goose
did an abrupt about face and waddled unsteadily back from whence he'd come. [There
were those who might question the logic of a manager who placed administrative
responsibilities of his stables in the hands/wings of a goose who had every major
drug dependency and bad habit known to man (and goose). However, help was hard to
find these days, good or bad, and talking geese were a rare and thus valuable
commodity.] Outside, the sound of a goose vomiting could be heard.
Nuln shook his head for the millionth time and went back to the mail. Trying
for better luck, he grabbed a small, square envelope at the back of the pile from an
address he instantly recognized in Shadowspire. The sender, signed only "Garrett,"
used the Macanudo Street number that Nuln had sent his original inquiry. Brushing
his other paper work aside, Nuln opened the letter his pulse quickening a bit, and
read the following:

     Mr. Kinthedfell,
After reviewing several offers, I have decided to tender my business to you at
the terms we previously discussed. This includes in its entirety: (1) my
business name; (2) my property on Macanudo Street [with all furniture and
furnishings left within]; and (3) my journal of contacts as well as case files.
I want you to know that I did not make this decision lightly. More than
any of the other offers I was struck by the candor of your letter, when most in
your position and stature are made of facades and hidden agendas. There are few
guarantees in life, but knowing the truth of something can be a certain kind of
     peace of mind.
One last thing: as I mentioned in our first contact, the property on
Macanudo comes with a pre-existing tenant. While it's entirely up to you
whether to continue his lease or not, I think after the two of you have a chance
to speak, you'll be convinced to keep him on. He lives on the bottom floor,
down the hall, the only door on the left.

    Good luck,
          Garrett

There was also an attachment with instructions on payment, which Nuln made a note of
(all in silver bars). It looked as if a trip to Shadowspire was in his immediate
future.

>>Shadowspire, Awhile Ago, But a Little Later>>

The north end of Macanudo Street was not in the best part of Shadowspire, a
gritty jumble of one and two story houses, huts, bungalows and hovels, all in varying
states of disrepair. Not wishing to draw certain attentions to himself, Nuln had
shed his usual black mail and chain ensemble for a tattered brown and black cloak
along with a battered, wide-brimmed hat pulled down low. Though a tall man, he stood
less so now as he walked with a stoop and a slight limp, looking like an old roust-a-
bout from the lower end of the social spectrum. His waist was bare, and he appeared
to carry nothing, though his costume was plenty baggy.
It was quite early in the morning on a weekend, and the streets were mostly
empty, though Nuln spied a group of figures up ahead. As he got closer he saw it was
a small pack of ogre and half-ogre teens smoking weed, and judging by the size and
density of the cloud surrounding them doing quite an admirable job of it. Nuln heard
one of them say something as he passed them, then they all laughed. But he knew
little ogrish, and didn't have time to settle scores real or imaginary at the moment.
The sidewalk dipped and curved back up, Nuln noticed many tiny side-streets and what
would have to be crawl-ways that leaked onto Macanudo.
As he reached the front entrance, Nuln smiled. Just as he had pictured it from
the description: a somewhat dilapidated 2 story, though with a nice new coat of deep
red paint. Past a low wooden gate he reached the steps leading up to the landing on
the front porch. Two well-made imitation suits of armor which had been shellacked in
the same red paint stood at attention on either side of the front door, over which a
sign had been painted:

               Red Iron Knights
               Investigator & Confidential Agent

"'Mornin' boys," Nuln greeted the dusky sentries, pulling out his set of keys,
"Keep up the good work then."
The door swung open easily, and stepping inside Nuln could feel a presence
inside with him. He closed the door behind him and took in his surroundings. Off to
the right he could see the kitchen, and off to the side of that a closed door he
suspected might be the office. Directly before him were the stairs leading to the
second floor, while off to the left was a hallway that bent around a corner and out
of his sight. That was where he sensed something or someone. The "pre-existing
tenant" he suspected.
Nuln decided on the kitchen. To his pleasant surprise it was fully stocked and
equipped, and he grinned even wider when he saw a full keg of the famous "Weider's"
ale resting cold on tap. After helping himself to an overflowing mug, Nuln sat at
the large dining table.
Opening the shades, bright sunlight flooded the room. After a few more pulls on
the nectar of the gods, Nuln got up suddenly and went quickly back to the office.
Besides the desk, two chairs, and one other item, the room was bare. The one other
item was a leather bound, brass-spiral notebook, literally bursting with pages, and
tied together with a strap. Nuln grabbed it and returned to his seat at the kitchen
table.
Opening to the front of the notebook, Nuln found the list of contacts he was
looking for. There was quite a long list of entries, some with more detailed
descriptions than others. One drew a chuckle from him:
"Doris, Marsha & Dojango -- Triplets from three seperate fathers [??]" then
"...great hired muscle, but DO NOT leave unaccompanied in a bar with a weeks pay..."
Despite their names they were all guys too, apparently. Nuln shook his head, but a
smile had crossed his lips.
Finishing off the mug, he eyed the hallway on the far side of the building.
"For another day, whoev'reth thou'rt." Nuln said more to himself, standing up
and walking to the front door.
The yellow sun had come all the way up now, and hung low in the sky.
"I better get backeth to Aradi and check on Goose." Nuln thought absently to
himself, and locked the door behind him. "It may already be too late..."

>>Still Shadowspire, Still Later>>

Pauly was bent over in laughter at a private booth in the Gringolet lounge,
sharing a pitcher of suds with Nuln. The Chaos Lord (tm) had contacted him and told
him to meet there, after getting the ok from the proprietor, JGW, to hole up for a
while. Nuln was in the middle of recounting how he had walked in on Goose performing
a ritual sacrifice of 444 ducks (long story, but Goose and the duck species don't get
along). In Nuln's kitchen. After Nuln had assessed and done damage control, he had
ended up missing turns in both Shadowspire and Tarrgir. (Goose claimed weakly that
the paper had "eaten itself.") So now when he returned to Shadowspire, he had to
sneak past the Player Committee sentries by hiding inside a block of ice of an ice
merchant passing through. He was hoping Pauly would put him up until his lawyers
straightened everything with the Player Committee. (Beheadings were common
punishments for those who disobeyed the PC.)
"Yeah, you can snag the couch," Pauly reassured the Chaos Lord. As Nuln got up
to give a message for JGW to deliver, Pauly's gaze drifted to an open window across
the room, which conveniently enough framed perfectly the mountain after which the
town was named.
Instantly the camera zoomed into a close-up of Pauly "2-3" Fallon's face, a look
of utterly grim determination on his face.
"Oh, the secret of Shadowspire will be mine." Pauly whispered to himself, "Oh
yes, I can assure you."
"What was thateth?" said Nuln loudly, returing to the table. "Were you saying
somethingeth?"
"Oh nothing." said Pauly, flashing a smile, "Nothing at all."

>>Shadowspire Again, Last Turn>>

Nuln was in the kitchen on Macanudo, having breakfast with his attorney, Bernie,
celebrating their victory in court over the Player Committee.
"That was a brilliant defenseth, Bernie," Nuln said, gesturing with a wedge of
fried ham for emphasis, "I was obviously not competent to not not send a letter to
the PC if my incompentant and drug-addled assistant hadn't taken time off his job to
kill how many? 22 score of duck. You really confused 'em with the double and triple
negatives, I couldst tell."
"You got lucky wit dat jury, kid, I'm tellin' ya. But now you're free until
that damn goose pops a screw loose again. Would you put your team on maintenance for
my peace of mind? Would you just do that? Okay, I gotta run. I got a client who
missed his last fight because of severe bed-head, PC wants him aced."
As Bernie left, Nuln breathed a sigh of relief. Then he remembered all his
other legal troubles and cursed. And so it began...

Business was bustling within the lounge for two weeks, thanks to the
opening gambit of providing free drinks to the patrons and drawing the attention of
every manager, warrior, and inhabitant of ShadowSpire arena. The bar staff had to be
doubled after three days of non-stop business; much of it paid with astrums and
common eagles that would help the stable and the town. Wellington was always known
as a Delarquian, but was also known as a philanthropist who would give to the cities
his stables inhabited. It always helped to bring in talented conscripts who would
fight valiantly for the olden manager, and their loyalty was repaid tenfold.
DeGotti stood beside Wellington as they both admired the assortment of
bottles in the cellar of Gringolet Lounge, which had arrived earlier in the week
thanks to the manager of Cult of Bacchus. "Bacchus is smiling upon us. He is
pleased with the efforts you have given."
"I have you to thank," Wellington answered back, not acknowledging the
reference to the god, "for without you I would have never added this collection, nor
known where to call upon for the spirits." The duo began to walk past the wines,
some which came from DeGotti9s personal collection, which dwarfed the cellar9s
numbers nearly one-hundred fold.
"Make sure to follow the directions I have given and he will continue to
smile upon you." DeGotti began his ascent to the main level so he could enjoy the
wines now present at the lounge. Once past the stairwell, he began to overlook the
ladies of the lounge, finally settling on a beautiful creature that was dressed in a
white dress-like gown that was held together by an ornate jeweled belt. The two then
retreated to a booth to enjoy the new spirits the waitress brought them.
Wellington had followed DeGotti to the top of the stairs and headed toward
the bar to order a drink of his own while he watched the patrons enjoy the
atmosphere. After the barkeep returned with a glass of wine Wellington headed to the
stairwell that lead to the upper floors where the Allied Axis had requested the use
of the second floor conference room and overlook into the arena. The five members of
the alliance within ShadowSpire were engaged in a discussion about arena matters,
which Wellington overheard as he headed to the next flight of stairs.
"The Allied Axis will establish a hold upon Shadow Spire in haste. The
simpletons within the arena are no match to our power as the oldest alliance within
Alastari, and these little men will not control this city9s arena any longer," Den,
the High Priest of the Allied Axis was obviously displeased with the alliance9s
present rankings within the city and wanted the trend changed for the better. "Bar
hand, fetch us more ale immediately."
Wellington noticed the hand assigned to this floor rush toward the
stairwell and navigate around the stoic manager, taking the steps two at a time. Den
acknowledged Wellington9s presence with a respectful nod then turned back toward the
group to continue their plans for ShadowSpire. Wellington had no interest for
listening in to the conversation or the schemes in the making, nor would it show well
for the respect for privacy the patrons would need to make the Gringolet Lounge a
success in cycles to come, so he quickly made his way up the rest of the stairs to
his private office on the fifth floor and began plans for his own warriors so an
impression of his liking would be left upon ShadowSpire.

Here Ye! Here Ye!

Last cycle there was a misprint of the announcement of the wine cellar now present at
Gringolet Lounge. The announcement was to announce the opening for the beginning of
the sixth fighting cycle, now run. Those who made the day a success by attending
unwittingly are thanked. Any who missed the celebration are welcome to come down and
observe the festivities along with trying out the stellar selection given by DeGotti.
Our apologies to those confused about the announcement. The message runner for Femme
Fatale has been taken care of.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Greetings vermin and people of Shadowspire!

I wasn't planning on mentioning how I took Alberta Clipper out in the first swing of
our fight, but when he touted in his column that I would be his next victim, well,
all bets were off. In any case, for those who haven't been a DM in the 'Spire, one
of the perks is getting to contribute to the log book called the Shadowspire Codex.
Let me get you up to speed with the entries so far:

Entry I. This has Clipper rambling on about how he is named after some sort of wind
phenomenon, so I scribbled in a footnote that if you compare yourself to wind,
sometimes you blow. He can erase it next time he's here--well, make that Cold Steel.

Entry II. This was Clipper's grocery list and some doodles of what looks like Frosty
throwing snowballs at The Baroness; I think he was unclear on the purpose of the log.
Also, still trying to figure out why he was ordering frozen gopher spleens anyway?

Entry III. For my first entry, I did some shout outs to Elephant, Apocalypse and Mr.
Freeze for some great showings as under the radar managers. For the next DM I
stapled to the top of the page an expired coupon for half off of a chalice of wine
from the Gringolet Lounge.

For future DMs (assuming there are others), please let me know what you add to the
Shadowspire Codex and its display chamber. The Codex is currently located beneath
the black velvet painting of Managerr I put up. Not to creep anyone out, but the
eyes seem to follow you wherever you go...and I don't mean just in the same room.

                                      SPY REPORT

It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Say good-bye to CULT OF BACCHUS, as they are pushed from the coveted
top team spot by the LIFE IMPACTS stable. Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored
bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is DARQUE AGES, who swept up 11 places in the ranks.
Take a look at CLAN IRONFIST's act, as they have a 3-2-0 week and gain 23 places in
the team ranking. Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit
it's corny) is DARK ENCLAVE, who swept up 11 places in the ranks. Take a look at THE
DRAUGS' act, as they have a 3-2-0 week and gain 12 places in the team ranking.
Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is THE
BASIK'S OWN, who swept up 29 places in the ranks. Take a look at MIGHTY MEAD ORCS'
act, as they have a 4-1-1 week and gain 23 places in the team ranking. Rising in the
ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is WARMASTERS, who
swept up 13 places in the ranks. Suffering under a 2-3-0 record and dropping from
6th to 21st place were the RED IRON KNIGHTS. Keep trying! Take a look at HOUSE OF
HEARTS' act, as they have a 2-3-0 week and gain 17 places in the team ranking. What
goes up, must come down. Watch out SHADOWSPIRE! JUST CHILLIN may fall on you as it
crushes past the teams below it to fall on the 27th spot. A seasoned team is steady
in the lists. But to LUROCIAN SCHOLARS, which fell to 29th, it's what you soak in
before going to the Dark Arena. Suffering under a 2-3-1 record and dropping from
19th to 30th place were the ETERNAL ABYSS. Keep trying! Rising in the ranks like a
loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is OF WOLF AND MAN, who swept up 12
places in the ranks. What goes up, must come down. Watch out SHADOWSPIRE! AMERICAN
MUSCLE may fall on you as it crushes past the teams below it to fall on the 33rd
spot. Suffering under a 1-4-0 record and dropping from 8th to 35th place were the
KELLUMBO'S KIDS. Keep trying! A seasoned team is steady in the lists. But to
DRAKE'S HARDWARE, which fell to 36th, it's what you soak in before going to the Dark
Arena. Take a look at HUCKLE'S CATS' act, as they have a 3-2-0 week and gain 12
places in the team ranking. What goes up, must come down. Watch out SHADOWSPIRE!
DESOLATE ONES may fall on you as it crushes past the teams below it to fall on the
47th spot. Suffering under a 0-5-0 record and dropping from 31st to 48th place were
the BATTLE GRUNTS. Keep trying! DRAGONBANE GUILD is no joke as it posted a 4-1-0
week advancing from 10th place to 3rd place. Hey everybody, watch out for RED TAIL,
who flew up 21 points in the rankings after mashing ANGUS like a melon. Keep your
eye on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was ANGUS, who dropped 14
points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with RED TAIL. What does the
Duelmaster and Piltdown Man have in common? They are both the most challenged apes
in human history! Heyheyhey! COPERNICUS got through to the Duelmaster this turn.
No doubt he was more than anxious to kick MOUSE OF PAIN's tail out of the throne! In
front of all the crowds, COPERNICUS took the Duelmaster's crown for his own. I give
the bum two weeks. Can you believe they are paying me 10 gold to deliver this stuff?
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Here's a song for you: Who's afraid of the big, bad CULT OF BACCHUS? Big bad CULT
OF BACCHUS. Big bad CULT OF BACCHUS. SHADOWSPIRE's afraid of the big bad CULT OF
BACCHUS. Tra la la la la! Okay, so I may not be funny, but catch KNIGHTBLADE's act
in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running from CULT OF BACCHUS.
ANVIL IRONFIST of DRAGONBANE GUILD had better have a good reason for challenging down
14 points in a challenge which he won. I thought ANVIL IRONFIST showed great skill
and promise when he subdued GROLSCH. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! DA2 defied all odds and slew SHEWISH GIANT in the Dark
Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as SHEWISH GIANT's meat is
notoriously tough. Congrats to BLANDUS for revenging the death of his teammate (but
more importantly, feeding TINNIE TATE a bit of dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I
Done?' category, ALLANA D'RAV was mashed by DAGRDRAUG, who let ALLANA D'RAV know that
killing members of THE DRAUGS is a no-no. Here's some advice: warriors with little
wit and will may encounter problems on the trail to the Isle.
Well, there's the manager of the SHADOWSPIRE giving me the 'cut' sign (or is
that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. And remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos),
oh, you've heard that one already!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Hammer -- While I continue to disagree with the stance you took on the forums, I have
decided that I do have an obligation to you to appologize for not seeming to take
seriously the problem you incurred with your team not running. This was something
that should have been handled directly between yourself and me instead of being
brought out into the public spotlight. The entire situation was blown out of
proportion by both sides, and was something that did not need to be as heated as it
was. While I refuse to change the way I post, or comment on things, whether they are
here in the PAs or on the D2 forums, I will tell you here, in public, in advance that
I will avoid making any "offhand" or sarcastic remarks towards you in the future to
help us avoid this type of situation again. I respectfully ask you to come back to
this arena, and to which ever arenas you have vacated, and continue to make this game
the wonderful entity that it is. -- Apex, Mgr of Carolina Blue, PC Member

Hey, Y'all! Thankee fer hav'n thisn old coot on yer Committee thang. It be enda
March. I be done. Yahoo! -- Smitty

Dracularr -- I really wanted to kill you for what you did, but that isn't my style,
you know. So I AM sitting you in the corner with a dunce cap on. It looks so very
nice on you. -- Mrs. Vaughn

Sgt. York -- How kind of you to think of me. -- Extrusion

Powr Goreslinger -- Apparently my politics are better than yours. Go Bulldogs! --
C.H.S.

Papa Smurf -- Nasty, nasty, nasty, loser. -- Cantex

Beredraug -- I am soooooo lucky! -- Grandma Miller

Good luck to the Player Committee. We would encourage no secret ballots. There is
no owner to this arena other than the collective managers present. -- The Consortium
Elders

Mouse Of Pain -- We salute the Duelmaster! -- Life Impacts

AARP people -- How do you like the Home? Some day we will be moving in there with
you old folks. Until then, enjoy the bingo and don't forget to drink lots of prune
juice. -- Life Impacts

DeGotti Man -- Yer lowest dead ID number? Ya'll done finds yer dangest thangs! --
Smitty (Proud Of The Record)

Elephant -- Nuln's nutsack travels with him wherever he goes. Indeed, he keeps it on
display often in North Fork. Probably here in Shadowspire also. Bring a magnifying
glass. -- The Ever Helpful Consortium Folk

JGW -- Thankee. I be comin ta yer lounge. Yessireebob! I be wearin muh best sock
cap. Be fun, Yup. -- Smitty

Smitty and his team are thinking something is wrong here. Last turn's team listing--

     6. Life Impacts 16- 9-0-64.0
     7. La Pentarchie 15-10-3-60.0
How did Life Impacts get sandwiched between those "killers"? -- Concerned Consortium
Elders

To prevent them getting together and reaching critical mass.

All Hail Mouse of Pain, Duelmaster of Shadowspire! -- AARP

Philosophers and Putup or Shutup -- Welcome to Shadowspire! I'll buy the first round
for you and your teams down at Gringolet's Lounge. -- Lord Xiang, mgr AARP
P.S. (whispers behind his hand) Just hand me those useless coupons that the
Commission gave you...I need to use the, um, privy...yeah!

Rillion -- Granted, there are a lot of warriors dying by daylight, but even more so
by torchlight! Besides, poor warriors don't always die off on their own...you
obviously haven't seen my ADM roster! -- Lord Xiang

Den -- My what?!? Besides, if I were to apply, wouldn't the fact that Aluminum
Walker smote mightily, and permanently, upon TRG Chinsnapper be proof enough that I
am more than worthy enough to be begged to join? I realize that I am a highly sought
after commodity these days, and I have a heavy appointment schedule with many
alliances (and one non-alliance) to discuss what they might possibly (if anything)
offer me, so I may be induced to let them join me. Have your people contact my
people to set up a power lunch to discuss the possibility of getting such an
appointment. -- Lord Xiang, Delarquan Independent

Elephest 2007?!?!? Quick, Rodent Clan, you are needed to ward off these pachyderms!
-- AARP

Elephant -- You've done WHAT to lambs?!? Poor, wee beasties! -- Lord Xiang

Pauly -- I, too, am consistent. Four of 5 turns are but 3-2, with an occasional
kill. That single 4-1 I have received, however, proves that your consistency is
greater than mine. Congratulations! -- Lord Xiang

Wretch -- The effort is what matters, I think, for this arena. People who are
willing to make the arena a fun place. You are helping to make it happen. -- Lord
Xiang

Rillion -- Granted, but I still say that we can at least get the vast majority. --
Lord Xiang

Rillion -- Larger numbers of challenges vs random fights are more the norm in an
arena where you have active managers, regardless of arena size. However, getting all
these managers in one arena to be this active is a GREAT accomplishment! Everyone
here should be proud! -- Lord Xiang

Master Beru -- How dare you be almost silent!!! *slap* I challenge you to a
Personal Ads duel! Let's see who can write more for Turn 7!!! -- Lord Xiang

May you get crippling arthritis in your hands, dammit. Anyone can write large
NUMBERS of ads. Write ads with quality content. THERE is a challenge. -- Temp
     Ed.

JGW -- I really don't think SwineTiger's apparel (a TOGA, of all things!!!) was
appropriate for last cycle's festivities!! And Smitty!?! I don't think your staff
will EVER be able to get those 'tebacki' stains out of the rug! Next time, put some
thought before hand on who you invite. -- Lord Xiang

Tebacki discourages cockroaches. You should thank him.

Hombre -- Late is always better than never! Welcome! -- Lord Xiang

Red Iron Knights Scribe -- They ought to know better than to bathe in acid! -- Sponge
Bath

Big Lake Outcasts -- I await your Bloodfeud with zest! I can't let Sponge Bath have
ALL the fun! -- Aluminum Walker

Vynar -- This could be interesting. Come after me again, and I'll dance some more.
Remember what happened to Mariq the second time around? -- Sponge Bath
P.S. I drink Ensure before each fight, just for that extra amount of energy!

Bladesmen -- It might be healthier for your team to take your Bloodfeud victory from
Turn 4 and move on to other pastures. This could get VERY messy for you. On the
other hand, this certainly has the makings of a fun rivalry! So bring it on, if you
must! -- AARP

Bander Tyl -- I salute your efforts! Perhaps we will meet again in the future. --
Long Nose Hairs
P.S. Try pureed prunes. They work for me!

Good-bye, Cruel World! I was emptied for the last time. -- Colostomy Bag

Stump -- Bah! You got lucky, punk! --4' Thick Glasses
P.S. (turns around) Oh...THERE you are!

All -- My location is having mailroom difficulties. My turn was postmarked the 14th,
I did not receive my turn until the Wed. of the last week of Feb. I am addressing
this issue at this time. I would like a little leeway with the player committee with
running a warrior short, for 1 or 2 turns. -- D.K. Goat

D.K. Blackstorm -- Heil the Desolate Empire! We are the only representatives of the
greatest alliance (huff huff) ever. We must purchase and build a guildhouse. I have
already found that the warriors need some "Desolate Flowers" with their drink. Let
us expand the Desolate Empire and declare this Desolate ground. I will be sending a
team to the slow no Tournament arena also. Diplo on the way. -- D.K. Goat

Ditch (aka Apex) -- I know, there was dirt in your eyes. As a chairman, you should
get a booster seat to see the dirt clods before (throwing one) you (Ditch getting hit
square in the mouth) choke on them. -- D.K. Goat

Was that was clean dirt? duh! (Ditch chewing and wondering)

All -- Thanks to all the managers that have made this arena possible. The excitement
has returned; the true meaning of "managing" will one again be known. -- D.K. Goat
P.S. Thanks for the welcome, Hammer!

Micepick -- Not so popular now, are ya boy. I'd gloat and carry on but you filthy
rodents are nasty things. You've already got the missus up on the kitchen table.
The less said about that the better. -- Brendan Behan

Sadler--
There once was a boy called Sadler,
A eunuch who wished to be sir,
He took a hit to the groin
     Which chopped of his loins
So now all the boys call he, her.
--e.e. cummings, poet laureate of Shadowspire

Da Vinci -- You should have put me away when you had a chance. -- Freddy Ironfist

Nuyen Nick -- Well, I had fun... you probably didn't. -- Conrad Ironfist

Rawn -- You need to take a long hard look into a mirror and ask yourself, "Do I
really want to be doing this to myself?" -- Rupert Ironfist

Celegdraug -- Whoa! Sorry about that "nearly dies" thing. I hope you're feeling
better. -- Evan Ironfist

Dalek -- What kind of stupid challenge was that? -- Cedric Ironfist

Just the usual kind, I would suppose.

Cedric -- Uh, Ced... that was YOUR challenge. -- Your Clan Ironfist Teammates

Clan Ironfist Teammates -- Exactly!! What was I thinking? -- Cedric

Ced -- It\'s a mystery to us. -- Your Brethren

Woody -- We have been giving this whloe new title and name thing a lot of thought.
Sure, we should have been training, but we thought this was more important. We think
that you need an image. You need people to take notice of you. Let's start with
what you're wearing. You need to be dressed up. We think that a pirate look would
work for you. You could have a peg leg and then go by the name Peg Leg Woody. Or
maybe wear a patch, then you could be One-Eyed Woo... well you get the idea. -- Your
pals at Clan Ironfist

Anvil Ironfist -- Thank you, we are happy to be here. You do the Ironfist name proud
with your impressive record. Keep up the good work. -- Clan Ironfist

Garn Ironfist -- Yet another Ironfist joins the ranks of warriors at Shadowspire!
Congrats on your first fight win. Keep up the good work. -- Clan Ironfist

Spotlight writers -- Once again, excellent work! -- Clan Ironfist

Ahh good to see that this arena lives up to the hype, and here I thought I could get
away with teaching my warriors the finer points of the war flail. This should be
fun. -- Enin (Manager of The Philosophers)

Let death and exile, and all other things which appear terrible, be daily before your
eyes, but death chiefly; and you will never entertain any abject thought, not too
eagerly covet anything. -- Epictetus

Shadow Dancer -- The master said: The superior man acts before he speaks, and
afterwards speaks according to his action. Perhaps you have proven to be more than
the base man. -- Disciple of Confucius

Dagrdraug -- I don't know. Just what do you think makes you worthy of a second date?
-- Ann Vyl

Edward Gorey -- Preach it brother! It's obvious that the commission has it in for
certain types of warriors. Otherwise they'd offer the same rank award per win. It's
clear favoritism at its worst. -- Ann Vyl

Den -- Just because you need to have someone read the newsLETTER to you, don't think
that's true for the rest of us. Likewise, someone reading it aloud doesn't change
the fact that the original comment was written in a print medium. Keep trying to
make that Slander charge stick. It's always amusing to watch you run around, waving
your arms and crying like a petulant pre-schooler. -- Drake
P.S. Nice job on the execution attempt. Your boasting of being able to kill my
warriors at will is nearly as amusing as your tantrums. Maybe if you actually
challenged my team you'd have more luck. I doubt it, but it's something you might
try.

I'm really glad I'm not the one who's going to have to clean up after something
called "Elephest". -- Drake

Czechvar -- Hey, if you find any, don't go bogartin' it all for yourself. Pass some
over this way. -- Chayn Saugh

Barkily -- Well, you lasted longer, but you did even less damage. -- Ann Vyl

Lilith -- You're a boring teacher. I couldn't learn a stinkin' thing from you. --
Drylpres

Dagrdraug -- Obviously I can't last as long as my team mate. -- Chayn Saugh

Howling Hyena -- It's somehow appropriate that Jaques would fight a scavenger right
before being sent off to the DA. Not as appropriate as if you'd fought him after,
but still. -- Drake

Tinnie Tate -- Perhaps if you were Steely Tate, you'd have fared better. -- Nael Ghun

Titanium Tate? To keep the alliteration.

Lycanthropic Lynx -- You're such a good student. -- Wooden Hand

Elephant -- I assume that was a rhetorical question. :) -- Nuln

Pauly "2-3" Fallon -- <sound of "Taps" playing> Oh well, all things must come to an
end. -- Nuln

     Why?

Homeybre -- If I was really thinking, I'd a brought Alanz Bozleeyotches over from 46.
As I said, if I was really thinking. Good to see you here, my friend. -- Nuln
P.S. I believe the locals call themselves "Shadowspizznirians."

E.E. Cummings -- Words ain't no good on the sands. -- Sadler

Ha-Thrust! -- A very accurate name. Damn. -- Saucerhead Tharpe

Jack Daniels -- After that win I think I'll have one. -- Doris

Bloodbeard -- Gah, I'm still too old for this @#$%. -- barking dog amato

nael ghun -- Well fought. -- Tinnie Tate

Just to test the accuracy of voting via personal ads I will offer the following;

All Managers please send in a personal ad in this format:

[Manager Name] of Team [Team Name] commands Doc LeGrand to send [ LYCANTHROPIC
LYNX, SENSUAL SHREW, HOWLING HYENA, KING COBRA or SACRED SABLE ] to the Dark Arena.

If, on turn 7, more than 36 managers (two thirds) actually respond in the right
format, and there are more than 27 votes (half the arena) votes for 1 warrior I will
send that warrior to the Dark Arena on turn 8. -- Deke

Sorry all, I've been neglecting my duties here in Shadowspire....will try not to let
it happen again. -- Roadkill...(GREAT SPOTLIGHTS BY ALL)

Long Nose Hairs -- Seems it doesn't matter since my manager decided that I dance with
the devil in the poor moonlight. -- The LATE Sleazy Susan

Speaking of the DA, Chunky Brewster will also try a little night fighting, since she
got hosed in damage. She had 57% of tremendous, 43% of awesome, got stuck with great
damage...really getting tired of 5 deftness rollups with no will. (sigh) -- Roadkill

Impala -- I have no idea where the broadsword came from on that one...but can't
complain about the skills. -- Daisy Chains

Bloodrunner -- Well done, I made you bleed and you tried to run. -- Misty Meaner

Rupert Ironfist -- Thanks for both the skills and the win, I'd like to say I'd return
the favor, but why lie!!! -- Dirty Diana

Delilah -- Well done sister, even I'll admit I should have lost that one. -- Daisy
Chains

Tired? Tiny? Titan? -- Uhmmmmm, no, no and no. Dead? yes!! I drink mead for
breakfast and eat orcs for lunch...do your worst. -- Dirty Diana

What do you do for dinner, then? Bicarb?

Mahatma Gumby -- That was just plain embarrassing...I deserve to put on the night
goggles after that one. -- Chunky Brewster

Corvos -- Finally a man that can look me directly in the eye. Well fought young
sire. -- Misty Meaner (yeah I know...I didn't believe me either)

Mouse of Pain -- Congrats on being the first to de-throne the our first duelmaster.
-- Roadkill and the Street Walkers

Copernicus -- You've become quite the cat's claw in my team's side. If my challenge
goes through, we'll see which one of us gets stuck in the mouse trap. -- Cheshire Rat

Snake Eyes -- Well, I'm sure all of those skills will help you turn that record
around. -- Raeg Trops

Long Nose Hairs -- Perhaps I should have used tweesers, 'stead of a Halberd, to trim
you down a bit. -- Bander Tyl

Corfed Bruiser--What a name, darling! Too bad I did all the bruising. -- Gwynneth

Llud -- Seems we both have dislexic creators. -- Yruf

Rupert Ironfist -- Maybe I should change my name to 'Achilles'. -- Rawn, aka "Limpy"

Cantex -- Not very Smurfy of you. Not very smurfy at all. -- Papa Smurf

Extrusion -- Almost had you. I thought if I got the nozzles out of alignment I might
cause a bit of flashing that I could then allow to dry and slow you down, but durned
if you weren't too hot to get near. I'll have to poke with a longer stick next time.
Then again, maybe I'll just fiddle with your fill rates and see if that makes you
explode. -- SGT. York

Raeg Tropes -- -- Snake Eyes

Krek -- Vanquished? Do I have a ray gun or something? I thought I 'whooped' you? I
didn't realize I made you 'vanquish'. -- Big Brother

Chupacabron -- It was fun. -- Wonder Woman

Well, now that the bloodfeuds are almost done, maybe I can improve my record a bit.
-- Master Beru

Mouse of Pain -- Well done, I salute you. If fate allows I hope to get a rematch
someday in the future. I do thank you for helping me make more history--I was the
first Deulmaster, the first to defend the throne, and now the first to be kicked off
the throne--well it isn't glory but it is history. -- Alberta Clipper

JGW -- I am honored that you would name the wine cellar after Bacchus. Like I said
he is the god of wine and fertility, I guess the 2 of those could go hand in hand.
Heheh. -- DeGotti

Rillion & Lord Xiang -- I am always up for crossing blades it doesn't matter the
opponent. -- DeGotti

Fulton -- No! No! No! YOU were suppose to teach me a bunch of skills! -- Flor

JGW -- I do enjoy the new lounge it is a fabulous place to watch the fights but the
girls dancing on the poles are kind of a distraction! Maybe you should have them
dance before and after the fights only. -- DeGotti

Grolsch -- Impressed again, but Grok is revenged again. Enough? Not yet. -- Anvil
Ironfist

Chaucer -- Three. Although I must admit that one got dicey for a moment. Nice try.
Once more? -- Aldebaran

Shadow Crown -- Next time was mine. I was right, all I needed was to swing. A
frustratingly simple concept to have cost me a win in my first fight. Perhaps we
shall have to try and break the tie some time. -- Hardrada

Slotto -- A good bout, you looked dangerous when you walked in. -- Baron

To all -- At least one of our opponents has been misidentified on Terrablood. One of
my warriors was incorrectly deduced as well, although that has been corrected. Fair
warning that all is not as it appears. -- Nomad

Tinnie Tate -- You may have escaped justice last turn, but eventually we will find
you! -- Vanek, Manager of Warmasters

Of Wolf and Man -- I am sure I'll be seeing your warriors for the next 4 turns, but I
have to admit, I really don't feel too bad about killing your warrior since you
challenged me! I think you'll find me tougher than my current record indicates. See
you on the sands! -- Trajen

To All -- Since the birth of the SON OF APOCALYPSE, the WIFE OF APOCALYPSE has made
it clear to APOCALYPSE that dueling is a 'want' and not a 'need' and that if
APOCALYPSE 'wants' what he 'needs' from MRS. APOCALYPSE then he is going to have to
take a (hopefully) brief hiatus from the sands for a period of time until the
APOCALYPSE CLAN can reestablish themselves in a new city with a more lucrative paid
position. I regret having to make this choice but it is the right choice at the
right time and the bright side for most of you is that you will be moving up a spot
in the rankings (until the future RETURN OF VAMPIRATES!). Good Luck to you all, in
the arena and in your personal lives. -- APOCALYPSE

SwineTiger -- Come down and bring your newest Duelmaster to the Lounge. Lord Xiang
and I will be there to celebrate your success within ShadowSpire! -- JGW

All -- No spot this turn, Tuesday night sort of snuck up on me. -- Hombre

Rillion -- I'm sorry to hear about your resignation. I will miss all of the hard
work you did... Well, the hard work you were probably going to do... at least the
door plate with your name on it looked mighty fierce. I hope whoever replaces you
will be able to do nothing just as good as you and your former committee mates. --
Hombre

Nuln -- I was with Pauly before when he brought down the thunder... my eyes are
still watering. -- Hombre

Elephant -- Why was I get denied access to your stable? -- '74 Pacer
