Elephest 2008--Next Summer's Blockbuster Hit
Master Darque
Master Darque is meeting with the top Shadowyspirewood producers and pitching
ideas for future movies. He had learned years ago that being an evil necromancer and
all-around diabolical half-demon did not pay very well, so he became an
Shadowyspirewood pitch man to help pay the bills and support his evil schemes.
"Okay ladies and gentlemen, picture this, we cast Pauly as a man's man with the
ego the size of a small city-state, he walks with a limp, and he has a monkey,"
Master Darque said. The Shadowyspirewood execs listened intently. "Vindictus was a
loving mother who died during the Chaos Wars while looking for the ghost of her
brother. They hook up, fight evil, and meddle with the space-time continuum."
"Interesting," one of the execs said slowly. "What else do you have?" Pages
turned on legal pads and quills scribbled across paper throughout the room. Whispers
could be heard among a few of the producers and the sound of someone vomiting could
be heard in the distance.
"Okay, that isn't your cup of tea. How about this," the necromancer pulled the
poster board from the easel and tossed it aside to present his next idea. "Okay, you
are going to love this. Nuln is a cop with a feeling that someone is watching him
and a strange, deadly disease that will kill him in 48 hours. Elephant is a
confused, smelly housewife who captains small boats for the Andorian navy and is
seeking a life partner. They meet, fall in love, and fight crime while meddling with
the space-time continuum."
One of the execs looked up from his writings and said, "Our last gay navy crime
fighter was a big flop. We just aren't ready to try it again so soon."
"Of course you are not," Master Darque sighed deeply. He only had a few ideas
left and they were not getting any better. He had come out strong with his best
proposals leading the way. It was only downhill from here on out he thought.
"All right then, let's take a look at this next one," the wizard pointed at the
poster board and it flew across the room. His agitation was apparent to all.
"Picture this with me if you would ladies and gentlemen," Master Darque spoke calmly
for dramatic emphasis. "Tripwire is a flame-haired soccer player with a love for
kayaking and the ability to bend spoons. He has a monkey with a limp that dreams of
being a cop someday. Otis the Drunk is a beautiful fashion model seeking the manatee
that killed his father. They meet, fight extra-dimensional invaders, look for love
in all the wrong places, and mess with the space-time continuum."
"Talcama Productions is just releasing an extra-dimensional monkey cop love
story. It will look like we can't come up with anything original if we go with this
one," a wormy looking executive squeaked from a dark corner.
"This is a soccer playing extra-dimensional action movie that just happens to
have a monkey cop. It is completely different!" Master Darque argued. The producers
were not convinced, so the half-demon went to his final idea.
"This is my last idea of the day gentlemen," Master Darque said crest-fallen.
"Hombre is a tall father of three with a phobia of Andorians and shins of steel.
Swinetiger is a homeless woman that won the Chaos Wars for Alastari and has a
yearning for tainted scrod. They travel to another world, produce fiscally
responsible off-spring, reduce third world debt and meddle with the time-space
continuum."
Murmurs could be heard across the room. Master Darque was unsure if they were
sad or angry, perhaps a little bit of both. He braced himself for cries of "Burn
Him!" as an executive stood.
"We love it! Production will start next week. Our people will be in touch with
your people for the screenplay," the executive was all smiles as his colleagues only
nodded their heads and congratulated one another. "There is just one last issue.
What are we going to call this movie?"
"A plot this good can only be called one thing--Elephest 2008," Darque knew it
was going to be the biggest flop in Alastarian movie history, but at least the title
could snazzy. The executives were elated at the suggestion.
Darque took his leave of the meeting room and exited the building. The half-
demon decided he did not understand Shadowyspirewood or its people. Perhaps it was
time for a career change. He heard Scrodbucks was hiring scrod jockeys.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings Shadowspire!!
I'm still here and I'm still honored. WOW. I tried to be humble last turn and
that's why there was no Column. Ok, the real story, I drank too much wine the night
before (true story). Four turns in a row is amazing and I'm setting the challenge
for future Duelmasters of Shadowspire to top it. With a little luck, I'll push that
number to five.
My memento for the throne room is a copy of City of Heroes for the PC. The
codex entry is "Don't drink too much wine on a work night."

before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, BIG LAKE OUTCASTS, since LA
PENTARCHIE took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. If The Warty
Toad is buying drinks for THE DRAUGS' good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry
before long. A 5-0-1 makes for a big thirst. With any luck, I can sneak into The
Warty Toad and join KNIGHTBLADE's celebration over their good record this turn. 3rd
place, not bad. If The Warty Toad is buying drinks for LITERATE LOONS' good turn,
I'm afraid the place will be dry before long. A 4-1-0 makes for a big thirst. Now
let's all watch OF WOLF AND MAN's heads swell from their 4-1-0 this turn. Haa ha ha
ha! Big shots, big talk, big deal. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see
MOUSE OF PAIN win a fight and gain 28 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, MOUSE OF PAIN beat
CHAKHARI and CHAKHARI lost 20 points. You're breakin' my heart. Going for broke or
broken, our Duelmaster HA-THRUST! challenged this turn. And if variety is the spice
of life, SHADOWSPIRE may be getting bland, as '76 GRAN TORINO stays top dog in the
city. I'm not in a very good mood today, but why am I telling you this? You want to
know what's new, don't you, SHADOWSPIRE?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? KELLUMBO'S KIDS was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice?
Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was CLAN IRONFIST. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm
frightfully impressed, SNAKE EYES was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. I notice FELIX challenging down 19 points to fight BUD
WISER, WARMASTERS doubtless has some rotten excuse for such an insult to honor. And
sorry to say, FELIX beat BUD WISER, leaving a bad feeling with the crowd. I think
exploitive snob is the term I'm looking for. Now here's guts and stupidity all
rolled into one, WHLOTTA ROSIE challenged up 26 to take on EDWARD GOREY of LITERATE
LOONS. But here's a pretty tale--WHLOTTA ROSIE did lose the fight, but gained 8
worth of recognition. Some long shots can pay off, I guess. I suspect either a 21
will or a 21 ego on this one, but ROUGE has challenged up by 28 in an attempt against
'70 SUPERBIRD. My sides still hurt from laughing about '70 SUPERBIRD losing and
giving ROUGE 26 points of recognition. Ha ha ha ha!! HELL'S HERALD was challenged
by one of BATTLE GRUNTS' warriors this turn, with GRANITE having a lead of 30 points
going into the fight. Question now is, will SHADOWSPIRE accept this sort of tacky
behavior? GRANITE beating HELL'S HERALD. The insult, the....yech!
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. I could say I saw this coming, but so
could anyone else. Anyway, this turn it came. TRAJEN's 4-13-1 has earned him the
Dark Arena. Bye bye, warrior, bye bye... DJAIK, a glorious 8-9-0 fighter, has
passed away. Gee, too bad THE MONGOLOIDS II. And what a stunning loss we have here,
boys and girls, BLING BLING CROSBY of HUCKLE'S CATS has added the final loss to its
6-9-0. Tee hee! A big yahoo goes out to KIRI FACADE this turn, for revenging
KATHOUSE's bloodfeud against ERRATA's warrior FOUNTAIN. Heh, heh, heh. It's about
time POWR GORESLINGER got beat for picking on warriors like HO! HA-HA! GUARD!.

There's got to be a better place in SHADOWSPIRE to get a drink than The Warty

ANNOUNCING ELEPHEST 2007!! YES, THAT'S RIGHT ELEPHEST 2007!!
Rules: Write a team spotlight detailing Elephest 2007 in Shadowspire.
The minimum length of a spotlight to be entered is 1/2 column in the newsletter which
is 31 lines, each line 85 characters across (yes, just like TOGS).
Shadowspire Residents and Non-residents are eligible to participate.
Spotlights must be submitted on Shadowspire (Arena 81) turns 18 or 19. Please
include your manager name in title. Enter as many times as you wish on turns 18
and/or 19.
Who ever best describes Elephest 2007 will be named "Promoter -- Elephest 2007". The
promoter (winner) will be announced on turn 20 with his/her winning spotlight.

15 managers have announced for the Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse!!!!!! There is still
time to join and make a name for yourself in one of Alastari's fiercest contests! I
must correct a mistake in the previous announcement. I incorrectly called it the
Slaughterhouse 2, but in reality, this will be the third installment of the
Slaughterhouse!
HOW TO JOIN
*Find a Partner
*Declare your intentions in the Stormcrowe newsletter to enter before the first turn
of the contest. You may also email or diplo Master Darque.
*Each manager entering the Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse must submit one (1) Team Roll-Up
Certificate. Only certificates will be accepted for entry. All certificates
submitted will be used during the course of the contest as prizes.
*RU certificates must be received on or before the first turn of the contest which is
Stormcrowe Turn 263 (running approximately November 27, 2007).
RULES and SCORING
Rules and Scoring information for the Slaughterhouse will be posted every turn in the
Stormcrowe newsletter beginning with Turn 260 and in a final all arena ad in
November.
PRIZES
ENDURANCE AWARD: One (1) +1 Bonus Potion will be given to every team that competes
in 60 of the 65 contest fights.
KILL MASTER AWARD: The individual manager with the most kills will receive a Limited
Immortality Potion. This potion may be applied to one (1) warrior. He/she will be
resurrected ONE-TIME if they are killed in Basic D2.
TOP TEAM AWARD: Each manager on the winning team will receive the following prize
pack for their Slaughterhouse Dominance:
*One (1) +1 Bonus Potion
*Favorites Knowledge for one (1) Warrior
*Undisclosed amount of Team RU Certificates
Special note from RSI on prizes: All contest prizes must be used within three
months. All contest prizes may only be used on a living warrior on the participating
contest team in DM 45. The immortality potion may resurrect a warrior one time,
after a death in DM 45 only, after which time the potion disappears.
