TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Tripwire arrived at the arena just as the day's fights were about to begin.
Watching his warriors with interest he kept notes, watching as each of them fought.
Looking to his left he saw a few of his alliance mates off in the distance. Nodding
to Kellumbo and the others he raised his glass and turned his attention back to the
arena. His warriors were terrible. They looked to be in good physical form but they
just weren't cutting it. It was time to clean house. Writing quickly on a scroll he
rolled it up and gave it to the servant at his side.
Later that day at the guildhouse he opened the door with a thought and stepped
through to the practice floor. Two of the warriors were practicing while the other
three lay around joking with the trainer. All went silent as the tall thin man
entered the room. "My name is Tripwire. I am your employer. You are sorely
lacking. For that you will pay." The trainer snorted and opened his mouth to reply.
His mouth continued to open. Wider.... Wider.... The gladiators gasped in horror
as the man's jaw broke loose from his head and blood burst across the arena floor.
Tripwire hadn't even looked towards the man and he eyed each of the gladiators with
disgust. A dark dwarven frame entered the door behind him and bowed. "This is your
new trainer. His name is Simback, one of my warriors that now fights in Primus. He
is retired and I brought him here to start the training of those I decide to keep
alive."
Tripwire walked towards each of the gladiators in turn and began to stare deep
into their eyes. The ones with the greatest willpower would leave this room alive.
The others, would not.... The door to the guildhall slammed shut and the screaming
began.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.

Shadowspire, take note of the following for they are the words of your Duelmaster.
After great peril I finally sit upon the throne that I most covet. I, your
Duelmaster, Stylemaster of a forgotten style raise my scimitar to the night sky and
scream a roar of rage to the fathers above and I spit upon the arena sands in
challenge to the fathers below. This is my throne and I intend to hold it for
another 2 turns until the Lady calls me away from this place.

When our team was formed and cast out from regular tourney play, Den had confidence
in me, but I was second to the Goreslinger. We were constantly told of the power the
Goreslinger would unleash upon the arena upon our arrival. I guess even the master
Den can make a mistake occasionally. It is I, Burm Wolfsnarl, son to an angry night
that has met success at each turn while the Goreslinger struggles to achieve
mediocrity. Perhaps I am bitter, but standing upon the top calms even the strongest
of grudges.

This week the challenge goes back to Rouge, for he struck me last turn, and that
should not be. I am still angered over the insolence. Also, Den says the throne
will remain in the hands of the Allied Axis, and thus you will fight for title and
land once again my friend. And this time, the desire to kill will remain, for we
must be tested my young friend, we must be tested each time. If Rouge does not meet
me on the sands the second challenge goes to Consortium? for he has a fine record and
deserves the shot. We have met before and I pray the outcome the same, but be
prepared for blood, for this is how I will play from this point forward. I want to
leave my mark before I travel from here, and that mark will be made in death.

Next week my subjects, next week we shall talk again.

SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly SHADOWSPIRE games. Former top team WARMASTERS was
unseated this week as LA PENTARCHIE moved up from 4th ranking to take the top spot
with a 4-1-0 record for the round. I have begun to suspect trickery on the part of
ERRATA. How else weeks like this one's 5-0-0? How else the sudden move to 2nd team?
The proverbial rising comet can only hope to compare with DARQUE AGES' team record!
A 5-0-0 week and now a firm grasp on a 5th place ranking. My praise to 4-LETTER
CAVEMEN for their 4-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round
deserving of notice! CYRUS IRONFIST caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as he skillfully bested GROLSCH and was awarded 27 points in recognition.
In one of the week's more notable duels, MCBAIN put down KREK, causing him to lose 28
points of recognition in the process. As is fitting, the most sought after warrior
on the challenge boards this week was none other than Duelmaster BURM WOLFSNARL
himself. Who here was not present for the title fight this week as BRENDAN BEHAN
boldly challenged BURM WOLFSNARL in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? Not
for nothing has BURM WOLFSNARL in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and
this week he's proven his combat skill yet again. Heed this! A seer has warned that
if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city shall perish! Just remember...5
or 7!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city SHADOWSPIRE. My inside sources tell me that the team to beat in
SHADOWSPIRE these days is KELLUMBO'S KIDS. At least, most blades in town are looking
to avoid them. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent
the better part of last week avoiding KELLUMBO'S KIDS. Indeed it was CLAN LONGBEARD.
At the gambling halls I have started to bet money on THE BIG CAT. He has got the
courage it takes. Witness his challenge this turn against BREGDRAUG! The LA
PENTARCHIE stable will be up late tonight, for indeed it was THE BIG CAT who claimed
victory in the contest, ascending 17 in recognition! As a gladiator gets older, the
icy grip of fear lays hold of hers heart. True, LIATH? Who could miss your "brave"
challenge of SPONGE BATH? Few would not have guessed the outcome of the bout as
SPONGE BATH was defeated by LIATH. Is this what passes for courage in SHADOWSPIRE?
I cannot but express pride for the fearlessness of IRON MASK who cast caution to the
winds and challenged DJAIMZ, a fighter 30 points higher. Do not the gods reward
courage? IRON MASK it was that claimed victory in the bout, while also rising 21
points in recognition. I can not but mention with disdain the name of DURG who this
week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 11 points below in the rankings. I
thought DURG showed great skill and promise when he bested DESIREE. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. This week marked the last days of
SANGLANT who at 7-11-0 was dispatched to the Dark Arena by the command of OF WOLF AND
MAN's demanding management. Look no more for HERIBERT in the arena or on the streets
of SHADOWSPIRE. His fate was sealed in the Dark Arena. Inevitable for one at
7-11-2. This week marked the last days of BLAIR HAMMERTOE who at 9-12-2 was
dispatched to the Dark Arena by the command of BIG LAKE OUTCASTS' demanding
management. Look no more for ADICA in the arena or on the streets of SHADOWSPIRE.
Hers fate was sealed in the Dark Arena. Inevitable for one at 6-12-0. The warrior's
path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week
GROLSCH, at 13-10-1, departed SHADOWSPIRE forever. Perhaps even the strong cannot
escape the vagaries of this world. This week arena veteran SARNDRAUG was slain,
despite a 9-4-0 record. I must report the passing of HARDOR, veteran of many duels.
6-7-1 final record His was not illustrious--but death plays no favorites. The
warrior's path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past
week GK CHESTERTON, at 3-18-0, departed SHADOWSPIRE forever. This week's duel proved
deadly to HARDOR as he fell to the more renowned warrior, '70 SUPERBIRD. How will
CULT OF BACCHUS find revenge? Cruelly, ANGUS of CLAN LONGBEARD has slain the lesser
ranked GK CHESTERTON. Word already flies around town that LITERATE LOONS plans a
bloodfeud! My hearty congratulations MOUSE OF PAIN, for thy revenge upon KIRI
FACADE, slayer of thy fallen comrade. Next time she will know better, eh? Many
townsmen have begin to remark over the fact that after one more round of duels FUCHI
OWNED's Bloodfeud against ROUGE will have expired. Dark alleys may hide both secrets
and assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil
always!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in SHADOWSPIRE. Nice atmosphere you have here! Ahh, but I can hear the
spires of a far off city calling to me. I must away! Till we meet again, remember:
a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a lion runs to slay its

*Each manager entering the Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse must submit one (1) Team Roll-Up
Certificate. Only certificates will be accepted for entry. All certificates
submitted will be used during the course of the contest as prizes.

*RU certificates must be received on or before the first turn of the contest which is
Stormcrowe Turn 263 (running approximately December 4, 2007).

RULES and SCORING

Rules and Scoring information for the Slaughterhouse will be posted every turn in the
Stormcrowe newsletter beginning with Turn 260 and in a final all arena ad in
November.

PRIZES

ENDURANCE AWARD: One (1) +1 Bonus Potion will be given to every team that competes
in 60 of the 65 contest fights.

KILL MASTER AWARD: The individual manager with the most kills will receive a Limited
Immortality Potion. This potion may be applied to one (1) warrior. He/she will be
resurrected ONE-TIME if they are killed in Basic D2.

TOP TEAM AWARD: Each manager on the winning team will receive the following prize
pack for their Slaughterhouse Dominance:

*One (1) +1 Bonus Potion
*Favorites Knowledge for one (1) Warrior
*Undisclosed amount of Team RU Certificates

Special note from RSI on prizes: All contest prizes must be used within three
months. All contest prizes may only be used on a living warrior on the participating
contest team in DM 45. The immortality potion may resurrect a warrior one time,
after a death in DM 45 only, after which time the potion disappears.
