DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings again Shadowspire!
I can now say from personal experience that winning to retain the throne is just as
exciting as winning to initially get it. After last turn, there was the buzz of
excitement in the air here in the Warmaster stable. After this turn, that buzz has
turned into a roar. Not only was I am to defend the throne and avenge the loss of a
fallen comrade, but both Felix and I received our graduation notices! When I ran
into Vanek earlier today, he was as giddy as a child on Christmas morning! Ahhh, it
is good to be on top!
I hope Vanek enjoys himself now, as the Warmasters will be under going a
transformation in the very near future. The 2 new recruits will be joining the other
2 Warmaster rookies, leaving Brutus as the team s new grizzled veteran and team
captain. To say that the team will be starting over is an understatement, but all
good things must eventually come to an end.
I have been told that Vanek has taken pity on Ryak Razorsaw and decided it would be
unfair to pursue massive down challenges on him any further. He will likely still
have to contend with Brutus, but he has other plans for me. As of the time this was
written, I knew my first challenge would again be issued to Sponge Bath. The second
challenge has yet to be determined. No matter the outcome of my next fight, the
arena shall be coronating a new Duelmaster next turn. Regardless of who it ends up
being, I want to congratulate them and remind them to enjoy the view from the top.
No matter how many turns you sit up here, the time flies too quickly and it's never
enough.
One last topic I wish to discuss before I depart for the Isle of the Eye. I don't
know what the rest of you think, but personally I have come to love this arena.
Despite the fact that I will no longer be here, it is my wish to see this arena
continue to thrive. It was nice to see 2 new teams join us last turn, but I couldn't
help but notice that despite the fact that we have had 77 teams join Shadowspire;
only 26 are still currently active. What has happened to the other 51? I urge you
all to encourage any managers you know that have left the arena to return. I know
from talking with Vanek that it is his hope to try and get 35-40 teams back here by
turn 50. He mentioned feeling so strongly about it, that he was considering sending
out an all arena newsletter post to help generate some new interest. Perhaps if
others feel as strongly as he and I do, they could do the same. I know it's an
ambitious goal, but it can be accomplished if every manager makes even a small
effort. Write an article, get a hold of an old Shadowspire manager and tell him to
get his butt back here, or recruit some fresh faces. Either way, let's keep
Shadowspire strong and thriving for many years to come!

SPY REPORT
Welcome SHADOWSPIRE. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights
have I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... Biff! Pow!
SHADOWSPIRE watched with glee as DRAGONBANE GUILD got knocked off top spot by LA
PENTARCHIE! Hmmmph! I always thought FURRY FURY was an over-rated team and they
proved it with a 0-0-0! Up 'n down. Up 'n down. Rankings always change. Up 'n
down. I think I'm gonna be... Well, THE DRAUGS' 15th moved them up to 3-1-0 place.
It seems so recently people were saying DARQUE AGES was washed up, finished. But
5-0-0 moved them up 5. I guess they're washed no more... What's with ANGEL HEART?
She actually beat AMERICAN MUSCLE's '67 FIREBIRD, and walked away with 22 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at WOODY'S WORKSHOP. PLASMA CUTTER lost 14 points to
KARCH. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe PLASMA CUTTER will provide more easy
wins... See how the Duelmaster challenged AARP's SPONGE BATH? That sort of
initiative is how he got where he is now. Try as it might, SPONGE BATH wasn't good
enough at persuading LUTHERIUS to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... Advice
to fighters with a 1 will--give up fighting!
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports.
SHADOWSPIRE thinks KELLUMBO'S KIDS and their 133-87-1 is too much! If at first you
don't succeed, give up... Management must be dealin', as the boys at CLAN LONGBEARD
ain't reelin'! KELLUMBO'S KIDS' mad! What do people see in VERMINDERELLA? Hers
7-2-0? RODENT CLAN ain't talkin', but she's got 37 points. Fighting is a better
craft than farming, INDIA, but you have to pay your dues. Being challenged by FELIX,
17 points above you, is dues. I have to get this off my chest. What a low dog,
FELIX! He can't set himself up in a real match. I was sorry to see INDIA lose.
Maybe FUCHI OWNED's ONYX is one of those gals who likes pain, or something. That's
what she'll get next week, after challenging up 27 to THE MAD RATTER. Who knows what
was running through ONYX's head, but THE MAD RATTER rearranged it for her. How soon
will ONYX make a challenge like that again? I hate going to the effort of writing
about the kind of fights that DESIREE gets in. She fights people like XINU, 9 points
below. I thought DESIREE showed great skill and promise when she defeated XINU. All
right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. ETHER BUNNY looked pretty sick and surprised when
she learned RODENT CLAN is sending her to the Dark Arena! Whadd'she expect with a
7-13-0? I like to see warriors put young whippersnappers in their place. I guess
you could say BIG LAKE OUTCASTS'THUNDERSAW did just that. Right ALE HOUSE MERCS?
SCRIMSHAW larned his lesson (THUNDERSAW taught it well), and we right likely won't be
seein' 'im fight any BIG LAKE OUTCASTS members with the same gusto. Many a warrior
has met his fate in a hungover stupor. You young rapscallions, take note!
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here?
SHADOWSPIRE is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places.

*TURF WAR VI RULES*
Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)
Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
(DM 47) newsletter.
2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
Captains are responsible for:
1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
alliance;
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
No EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
will be final.
Scoring will be as follows for Fights:

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2

Champions:
1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.
Bloodfeuds:
1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:
1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
warrior(s) wins such status.
3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
warrior(s) win such status.
4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
War with Team A.
3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War.
4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.
Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each manager who fights in all 10 rounds
AND 45 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied to a living
warrior from (DM 47)
These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.
Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com.
