DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I'm back to write another column! As expected, the Kellumbo scum appeared to have
used their avoids. Unfortunate, but not unexpected. Those avoids opened the door
for Horse to get his challenge in on me. I guess he saw the style matchup and
thought he could take me. Ha! Think again! For I, having learned from watching
others do crazy things, have learned to think outside the box! And thus the style
matchup worked in my favor! Last turn anyway. Nice try Horse, perhaps the next
Duelmaster will let you try again.
I would like to offer some encouragement to Sponge Bath. Although your record is not
great, you deserve the durability award as the last remaining warrior to have fought
every turn this arena has been in existence. How long can it last? At this point
you are picking up political points. It won't be long until everyone is second
generation. I myself am second generation as I was the replacement when one of the
original Guild members, Anvil Ironfist, graduated. Let the third generation begin
under Sponge Bath's watchful eye! Hmmm... that sounds a bit creepy, doesn't it?
And finally, what to leave as memento of my final turn? A bit of horse hair seems
too obvious. Plus, it wouldn't actually come from Horse as the commission doesn't
let you take a piece of your fallen opponent. That might get a bit gruesome.
Perhaps a dagger--a symbol of the need for speed, dexterity and pin-point accuracy?
I have a nice one that has a moon rising over a mountain (think Spire) engraved on
the hilt. That should do nicely.

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly SHADOWSPIRE games. Former top team CLAN LONGBEARD was
unseated this week as WARMASTERS moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with
a 3-2-0 record for the round. I have begun to suspect trickery on the part of THE
MONGOLOIDS II. How else weeks like this one's 4-1-0? How else the sudden move to
7th team? The proverbial rising comet can only hope to compare with AGGRESSION INC's
team record! A 4-1-0 week and now a firm grasp on a 8th place ranking. My tutors
were fond of telling me that the higher you rise the harder you fall. This week
FURRY FURY went 1-4-0 and fell 11 notches into 16th! My praise to RODENT CLAN for
their 3-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving
of notice! WILHELM caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he
skillfully bested PLASMA CUTTER and was awarded 20 points in recognition. In one of
the week's more notable duels, WILHELM put down PLASMA CUTTER, causing him to lose 17
points of recognition in the process. This time out DJAIMZ made its bid for the
throne as it challenged BALLIOL BLACKMOON in an all out contest of skill for
possession of the title! The city has turned out in honor of DJAIMZ, for with its
arena victory it may now lay claim to the highest position in the city! Heed this!
A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city shall
perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In SHADOWSPIRE "art" is a word that
has long since passed from the language! SHADOWSPIRE, city of gladiators! Mighty
among the names of thy guilds is KELLUMBO'S KIDS, a guild shunned and avoided by many
in the weekly duels. Apparently the stalwarts of LA PENTARCHIE are catching the bulk
of jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty
fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. '69 STINGRAY take warning!
You have more than a few enemies in SHADOWSPIRE. Give '68 ROAD RUNNER credit for his
courage. Did you note how he challenged GRATH despite the 30 point difference in
their rankings? 6 points of newly earned recognition and a dose of my admiration is
what '68 ROAD RUNNER must now weigh against the defeat which resulted. For some
warriors honor is not important--only empty victory. See, gladiators, how GROWLER of
BATTLE GRUNTS challenged down 18 points to CROQUE_MORT. Surprising everyone,
CROQUE_MORT subdued GROWLER, earning 20 points of recognition in the process! A
knave's just desserts are the sweetest victory. A match that raised a few eyebrows
at the games this week, it seems that HORSE posted a challenge against the more
highly recognized '69 STINGRAY. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand HORSE was
bested by '69 STINGRAY. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel. I can
not but mention with disdain the name of DEADTEAR who this week posted a challenge to
a warrior a full 9 points below in the rankings. I thought DEADTEAR showed great
skill and promise when he bested GRACCHUS. All right, so I slept through it! Big
deal!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? DOMINATRIX must hold silent, for this week she was humbled in the
arena by a successful Bloodfeud won by GIGI DIVINE of CULT OF BACCHUS. Hail GIGI
DIVINE for thy victory! Many townsmen have begin to remark over the fact that after
one more round of duels THE DRAUGS' Bloodfeud against WIMPY will have expired. Dark
alleys may hide both secrets and assassins. In the arena there is only the
brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
The girls are as pretty in SHADOWSPIRE as ever I remembered them....and the
fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I
keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till
