It is a distinctive sound, the deathblow. The unmistakeable crunching noise
made when a gladiator's weapon strikes unprotective flesh, shattering the bone.
Kayelbe had heard it many, many times before. He gazed out onto the sands from the
Manager's pavillion. He both dreaded and expected this very same outcome. He
watched as the warrior known as Kennastone weakly raised his hands up to his throat
where moments before the quarterstaff of the Daggers Deep warrior, Captain Scragg,
had impacted. Kennastone's eyes desperately darted between Scragg and the
Arenamaster as he slowly sank to his knees.
Scragg did not wait for the Arenamaster's signal that the duel was over. He too
knew the sound of the deathblow, having heard it just a few weeks before when
Kennastone had delivered it to the Caravan Guard. That was why he was out here again
this week. The manager of Daggers Deep had tried to persuade Scragg that the
Bloodfeud was honorably settled the last time he faced Kennastone, but to no avail.
Captain Scragg would not rest until his son's death was avenged, and Kayelbe knew it.
Scragg walked away, seemingly ignoring the roar of the crowd and the final
gurgles of life from his fallen foe. He brushed past his waiting teammates and
exited the arena but not before dropping his staff at his manager's feet. The
members of Daggers Deep joined their manager under the pavillion.
"So." began Raeg Trops. "Looks like Scragg just quit."
"Yes, it appears so," said the weary stablemaster. "Perhaps I should remind him
that there is only one way out of a gladiatorial stable, barring the call of the
Isle." Kayelbe followed after his warrior, his robes fluttering in his haste.
The warriors of Daggers Deep watched as their leader disappeared into the crowd.
Already, another fight was beginning out on the sands. The infirmary orderlies must
have quickly carted away the corpse of the young Kennastone. Theirs was a task of
practiced efficiency here in Shadowspire. The remaining warriors watched with muted
interest as the latest contest unfolded before them. Their own battles of the week
still lay ahead, and the behavior of their teammate did little to aid their
concentration.
Finally one of the newest members of Daggers Deep broke the silence. "What
happens now?" Argin Spyrl asked. The young rookie was full of questions since
arriving this past week. He had much to learn, raw recruit as he was. Apparently
the rules of the Bloodfeud were not yet part of his lessons. "Does this mean the
Bloodfeud between us and the Immortal Asylum is over?"
Yruf turned to face the lad. "No young one, it is not. I'm quite certain a new
Bloodfeud has begun."

Sadly, Kellumbo surveys his team. What was once a proud, well oiled machine, is
now a broken down husk of what it once was. While his warriors are supposed to be
training for the upcoming fights, this is what he sees:
Volbeat, sitting off in the corner of the arena, listening to Black Betty over
and over. Kellumbo screams at him, "Just because you are a scum, doesn't mean you
don't have to practice. You don't need more practice sitting there doing nothing!
Perhaps we can get Gentleben's lousy warrior to beat on your head again. Pathetic!"
Latrice keeps swinging and missing the target dummy. My oh my, Kellumbo
wonders, which is the dummy here?
Beauchamp at least seems to be trying. Kellumbo offers praise, only to have her
come up and whine about how the commission messed up her trains last turn. Oh my, if
it isn't one thing it is another. At least she shows promise.
Miss Bunny looks strong, jumping crisply from target dummy to target dummy.
Yes, Miss Bunny is one of the few bright spots on an otherwise putrid team.
Lastly, we see Devon tripping over his Longspear, and wheezing as he enters the
training grounds. Such a pathetic warrior. Kellumbo knew he wouldn't be great, but
maybe, just maybe he figured, he could squeeze a few wins in with him short term, to
help in the race to 200 wins. Sadly, Devon has hurt more than helped.
Kellumbo calls his "warriors" in, and has this to say:
"Once, Kellumbo's Kids was a team to be feared. Once, we had a solid lead on
the race to 200 wins. Now...look at you all. A disgrace! Listen up, and listen
well. We only have a few turns left to make a push for 200 wins. We have to stop La
Pentarchie! I'm sending all of you who are in range of his warriors on a double
challenge of them. The rest of you, have challenges you can win. It was tough, as
Consortium joined the arena early, so no more downchallenges for the next 26 turns,
but we'll make do with what we can. This.... This is our last stand to stop La
Pentarchie from reaching 200 wins before we do. You had better win this turn,
because if you don't, I can assure you, THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST STAND!"
With that, Kellumbo shoos his pathetic team away. As they leave, they can hear
him mutter to himself, "I can't wait for this race to 200 to be over one way or the
other. As soon as it is, at least three of those bozos will be getting the slip for
a little fighting under the light of torches at night."
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
It is a great honor to reign as your Duelmaster, if for only one turn. My manager
always had a great amount of faith in me and always told me he had no doubts I'd
reach the top here eventually. I know he is slightly disappointed I will sit here
for only a single turn, but in an arena where 35+ teams run regularly, it is a tall
mountain to climb to reach the top. One must simply appreciate both the opportunity
to be here and the great view it provides!
There is a lot of tough competition here at the top and many fine warriors. I have
no doubts that the warrior that gains the throne upon my departure will be a worthy
one! PO'd Panda laid a serious butt whopping on me several turns ago in a title
fight and made me appreciate just how tough it is to earn this title. I think he
helped put a little bit more fire in my belly to make sure that if I was lucky enough
to get one more title fight before graduation, to make the most of it and not let
another opportunity slip thru my fingers.
As to my challenges this turn, I elected to give the honor of trying to take the
title away from me to Kanodraug and Rat in the Hat. I challenged them both in an
attempt to prove I am not only a worthy Duelmaster, but the best Striker in the arena
at this time! I might have challenged Thag too, but his manager is unpredictable and
I wasn't sure if he'd even be fighting next turn. Rat in the Hat was a fine
competitor last turn and I was thrilled to be able to best him, thus he earns the
second challenge. I am certain we will see him on the throne again soon (hopefully
not next turn though!).

SPY REPORT
I can't believe the violence in SHADOWSPIRE! I still haven't told Mom I'm
writing Spyreports. She'd have a cow! Well, here we go... Like, DRAGONBANE GUILD
had to be so embarrassed when they got kicked off #1 spot by RODENT CLAN! Way to go
RODENT CLAN! I couldn't believe it. Did CAPITAL CARTEL really go up by 16? If only
those guys didn't have so may missing teeth... Gross! One team deserves special
mention 'cause they moved up 4 after going 4-1-1. Keep it up, CLAN LONGBEARD! I
talked to THE COCKTAILS' manager before the fights. He said, "We're gonna do good."
And look at this: 4-1-0! Psychic, or what! And I was just getting used to the
ex-Duelmaster's habit of...(!) Oh well, welcome KANODRAUG. Aren't THE DRAUGS proud.
(Oh, my.) Who was the wiseguy that said SHADOWSPIRE's Duelmaster was paying for
drinks at The Warty Toad? Don't look at me!
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. KELLUMBO'S KIDS was SHADOWSPIRE's most avoided team. Is there some
award for that? I don't know what DRAGONBANE GUILD's been doing. They certainly
haven't been accepting many fights from KELLUMBO'S KIDS, that's fer sher. Can
MONSTER MANUAL's CHIMERA be more popular than me? He was challenged the most, but is
that really the same? For sure, I was holding my breath when I found out CLARA
challenged TING-TING. After all, haven't HOUSE OF HEARTS and FUCHI OWNED had a long
standing duel in SHADOWSPIRE? It wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything, but
TING-TING wants me to write about it since she was overcame by CLARA. Satisfied?
OWL-EYES must not be a good enough fighter to get in fair fights. He challenged
ARIOCH. 14 is a big difference. (Well, that's what they tell me.) I thought
OWL-EYES showed great skill and promise when he bested ARIOCH. All right, so I slept
through it! Big deal!
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. Pinch me, I must be dreaming!!! LIBERIUS
returns from the Dark Arena, maybe a "little upset" at his WARMASTERS teammates...
D'ya think SPIKE is feeling guilty for killing LETHAL FORMULA's KYZERSOSAE, a mere
boy? Naah, I doubt it. It was kind of sad, seeing old H.P. LOVECRAFT stumbling
around the arena, before GRACCHUS finished him off. Oh well! What a bummer deal for
ZULLIE! She just barely was getting hers "fighter feet" but got kill by TITUS of
WARMASTERS! Those're the breaks, I guess. CORRIN of CLAN LONGBEARD wasn't planning
on killing MISS BUNNY, I bet. Now he has to worry about being Bloodfeuded, and
getting put on lists... OFFICE BRWN NOSER really fought hard against W.S. GILBERT.
That'll teach LITERATE LOONS not to go and kill any of CORPORATE IDIOTS' guys again,
huh! Like was that some Bloodfeud, or what? (OFFICE BRWN NOSER vs. W.S. GILBERT,
that is.) SPIKE bloodfeuded (is that a word?) KYZERSOSAE for revenge over some guy's
bad fortune. Was it really worth it? Fight, fight, fight. Is that all you guys can
do?
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I know how much you like reading this stuff, but I really
