DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Once again I take the throne from a young upstart. This is the second time I
have become the greatest gladiator in Shadowspire. The penultimate. The omnibus.
The cream of the crop. The numero uno. The best of the best. And all those other
top of the line things. I have fought long and hard in Shadowspire and have become
my manager's first Wall of Steel to graduate in quite some time. I will probably be
the last in quite some time as well, as it is a frustrating style for him.
I leave this throne and go into retirement. My numbers were pretty much what
people expect out of me: 17(2)-19(2)-11-9-18(2)-5-11, Tremendous Endurance, Great
Damage, I leave with only 3 regular experts in Init, Attack and Parry. I learned
horribly even for a 9 witter. VH/MO, MS were my favorites and I will go out using
them, 10-6-10 next turn just for funsies. I will challenge the top two gladiators
regina spectre and midnight sun to see if they can stand the wrath of my face armor
until they tire out and I start to swinging.
Farewell, Shadowspire, it's been a blast!
Your humble DM, Arioch
SPY REPORT
Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well
fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for SHADOWSPIRE. Too bad, OF WOLF AND MAN,
but JUNGLELAND was just too good to be stopped. OTTO'S DINER had like a really
albendranius week! Those hunks got a 5-0-1 and wound up as 3rd team! Cut this out
and put it in your scrapbooks, MONSTER MANUAL! 'Cause they got 4-1-1 and moved up to
9th! MVP award for BERSERKER? MONSTER MANUAL's proud of him after beating BLUE
MARBLE and getting 23 points. Talk about yer big time losers! SERAFIN GAWAIN got
smashed by W.S. GILBERT, and lost 14 points! And I was just getting used to the
ex-Duelmaster's habit of...(!) Oh well, welcome ORNERY OCELOT. Aren't FURRY FURY
proud. (Oh, my.) I hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours
sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos.
Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? OF WOLF AND MAN was SHADOWSPIRE's
most avoided team. Is there some award for that? Is there some deep dark secret why
WARMASTERS' been avoiding OF WOLF AND MAN so much? Or is it just that they're too
scared? Like, is BLUE MARBLE popular, or what? He was challenged the most in all of
SHADOWSPIRE! He's got a 20-16-0, is that good? For sure, I was holding my breath
when I found out MADAM MARIE challenged LIAM O'SUPERIOR. After all, haven't
JUNGLELAND and SUPERIOR FORCES NT had a long standing duel in SHADOWSPIRE? It wasn't
a spectacular fight, or anything, but LIAM O'SUPERIOR wants me to write about it
since it was defeated by MADAM MARIE. Satisfied?
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? GOULASH bloodfeuded (is that a word?) SMACKY BUNNY for revenge over some
guy's bad fortune. Was it really worth it? Fight, fight, fight. Is that all you
guys can do?
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it
quits. Remember you guys, ease up sometimes! Chill out! Later, Debby Tonte

PERSONAL ADS
All -- Congrats to Duelmaster Arioch, top team Summerborn, and Lord Protectors
Serafin Gawain and Arioch. Kudos! The Capital Cartel deserves (and got) none of
this acclaim as ophers are down right despicable. -- Agent
P.S. Book Mark, Limp In, Pronate, Punt, and Gutter Ball -- you all let me down. I
need 20 percent to handle each of you now.
Vanek -- Thanks. Now put that hat back on and toast a bunch of Cartel flops. --
Agent, Capital Cartel
Hypogee Bleve -- I have those daily. Or is that different from gaz espulse? -- Life
Patent
Victor -- You have been charged with libeling yourself. How do you plead? -- Justice
Thomas
Cyril -- Who are you calling baldes? You better (spell) check yourself! -- Action
Cyril -- Your trial continues. The charge of drunk personal ad writing has been
filed against in addition to the currently standing charge of killing a promising
young lady. Show your evidence. I will wait, watch and then pass my you what. --
Justice Thomas
haunted mouse -- Fool. Sucker. Foolish. Foolish sucker. -- Roundup
Amulius -- Eh. I dunno. Maybe. -- Action
Rodent Clan -- More challenges please. -- The Monsantis
Cyril -- More thing say. promising youn gil.... you're gonna go sleepy. me too. --
Justice Thomas
Liam O'Superior -- What, exactly, makes you superior? Your ability to stand still
for long periods of time? Sure, it worked THIS time, but... -- Numitor
The Monsantis -- Condolences. Seemed like a good fighter, too. Ambidextrous, fast,
and now, dead. I await your blood feud. -- Amulius
Nicely done, Bartender! May Rosalita rest in peace.... Cariec Tom still has many
defeats coming his way to pay for his sins! -- Le Pentarque
I can't believe it. I actually beat one of the mighty Cartel. Wow. -- Zog
Cornerstone
All -- Turns out I could do worse than Jugger after all. Two 2-3-0 turns in a row.
Gonna lose my job here. -- Hummingbird
Book Mark -- You know... If you would have won that fight your team would have earned
Top Career Honors this turn instead of mine... That's gotta hurt. All your fault!
-- Midnight Sun
Arioch -- Really wanted to let August take one last shot at you before you left, but
I guess it wasn't to be. Even though my guys have ended up with the short end of the
stick against you more often than not I've enjoyed dukin' it out with you over your
career, and you've been a great adversary. 'Grats on title and graduation. Well
deserved. You're a worthy champ of this great arena. Best of luck to you on the
Isle. -- Jugger
Smacky Bunny -- With all the predictions and fortunetelling that is going on in this
arena I thought I'd go ahead and give it a try. Hmmmm, no matter how this
gladiatorial career pans out for you... I see absolutely no chance of you ever
having a successful career as a teacher. -- Vaca
Hana -- On top of the more obvious problems I had in that fight, I was also using
something called "the lunge tactic." Not really what I normally do. Not that you
don't deserve some credit. Honorable female opponent and all. -- Deadhead Sticker
Jungleland -- Turning things around nicely there. 11-4 last three turns, and almost
at 50% now! Those huge point gains tend to come back to bite you though. -- Jugger
Red Blades -- 'Nother loss against you guys. I'm thinking of making you a permanent
feature on my avoid list. -- Jugger
Shillelagh Tor--
Oh Shillelagh Tor, bravely lived for,
The glory of the battle.
When Shillelagh died, his woman cried,
"Just another nameless cattle.
For such is the way, that men must pay,
For the folly of their battles.
And non-such is the why, that a woman will cry,
For another nameless cattle."
-- A.E. Housman
Chupucasuperior -- Impressive win, well fought, and no offense meant: but there was a
managerial or input error there someplace. Bottom line, I wanna try that one again.
-- Evelyn Waugh
Medusa -- I am what my record says it is. Pretty dang awful. But after a while even
the worst of us can eke out enough skills to be dangerous. -- Virginia Woolf
Cicero -- Don't underestimate girls, whether they wear pink or embrace the way of the
bunny. It can be a difficult lesson, and I'm certain, if he thinks about it, Vanek
will understand. -- Pink Bunny
Pronate -- Thank you. That's how I prefer my fights: short and sweet, so I don't
have to get all sweaty and gross. I can think of better ways to do that. -- Pink
Bunny
Otto's Diner -- I won't apologize for killing Chop Suey, as he challenged me. I
await your revenge. -- Smacky Bunny
Pizzarrhea -- At least one of us learned some valuable lessons from our duel.
Congrats -- Piotr Cottontail
Ratling Gun -- Welcome to Shadowspire. May your blade chip and shatter. -- the ghost
of Vorpal Bunny
Congrats to the new graduates! -- Nomad and the Guild
NoTaxesTexas -- Congratulations on the Bloodfeud. I wasn't sure your team had anyone
who could do it. It is always good to see a team honor its dead, even if it is at my
expense. -- Cyril
Kid Charlemagne -- Seriously? I did not expect you to try that. And indeed you
should not have done so. -- Azaghal
Duchess -- A good plan. #20 -- Blue Marble
Anger Mouse -- Nomad was happy to see the Rodents return to Shadowspire. He seems to
think you are good for the arena. I just saw an opportunity. Now the key is to not
let you get the fight on your terms. -- Jager von Drachen
Chili Superior -- A good bowl of Chili is always better with a Bru on the side. A
fine start to my career. -- Irn Bru
Blue Marble -- The size and color of your manhood is nothing to brag about and you
got lucky my weapon broke, next time we meet I try my best to change your name to
Blue Powder. ;) -- Duchess of Erat
Fimnar -- Nice challenge on your part... watch your back... and your front. --
Ctuchik
Mice & Dice -- The dice were not kind to me last turn. -- Scrawnie Ronnie
Evender -- I realize that Ima has more FE than you yet you and your team's continued
use of the down challenge has been noted by me and your team is as of now put on
notice. -- Gentleben, mustering as much intimidation as possibe following an 0-5 and
dropping below 40% team W/L and wishing he had thought of this prior to posting the
challanges for this turn :(
Urmar -- I hope you decide to try that again or maybe another member of your team.
Your fellow member's death has been avenged but know that I will be trying to give
you cause to BF many more times in the future. -- Beastier Wee
Tripwire -- Five-0, DM, 3 awards and Arioch's graduation! Very nice turn for you,
congrats! -- Gentleben
All -- Anyone willing to give a couple of wins to Gentleben he has Ben crying a lot
lately. -- Unholy Knights
Azagahl -- Should have left the DA strat in the DA. Well fought. -- Kid Charlemagne
August -- It was nice to finally meet you. -- Selena
A.E. Housman -- Yup, that went a lot differently when I imagined it. -- Shillelagh
Tor
Gilbert -- Looks like swords were trump. -- Regina
PKD -- And that's why I was avoiding you. See you. -- Serafin
Arioch -- Congrats on the throne and the bid. I'm hoping to try my "fav" strat on
you or Viridio this turn. -- Serafin Gawain
Chupucasuperior -- Okay, Okay I learned my lesson. -- Fimnar
Shaviola -- Impressive dueling for one so young. -- Elthor
Scrawnie Ronnie -- Looks like we need a tie-breaker. -- Naryak
Pronate -- Till we meet again. -- Jehgan
Ctuchik -- What happen your manager sneeze when telling the commission what your name
is? -- Fimnar

POSTED: Arena recruitment effort, DM 32, Arvat -- seeing as our arena Participation
has dwindled in recent months, we're offering the following incentive to any new
teams looking for a new home arena. We will GIVE a Free Rollup to any manager
willing to agree to fight in Arvat for the next 10 turns. We have a number of VERY
solid arena teams stockpiled, and while we don't promise tournament godlings, we are
certain we can come up with teams with 3, 4 or even 5 solid arena warriors to start
out with.
In addition we'll honor any no-challenge requests by relatively new managers to
help you get off on the right foot.
If interested, please contact the Devil Advocates via Diplo or contact
theDarkOne via IM on the www DOT reality DOT com site. We will even give a choice of
teams available if requested.

THE TURF WAR IS HERE AGAIN!!!!!
*************************************************************************************
*TURF WAR VII RULES*
Starting Nov 2010 (12 turns)
Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47) arena.
Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
1. Announce the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork (DM 47)
newsletter.
2. Indicate in the newsletter which Captain/alliance you will join.
3. Announcements made on the D2 Forums or elsewhere will not be accepted.
Captains are responsible for:
1. Verifying/authorizing, in the North Fork newsletter those who wish to
participate under the banner of their alliance. (Lack of participant indication of
joining and/or lack of lack of Captain confirmation will delay a team's participation
in the Turf War.)
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate. (Note: Captains
may, if they wish, submit certs for all potential members of their alliance.)
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate (Unless already
submitted by Captain. Note: extras will not be returned, but will go into the winning
pool of prizes.)
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter. Announcement made
on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until an RSI Gift Certificate is
received, and participant indication and captain confirmation are posted in the North
Fork newsletter. NO EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified in the newsletter
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate disqualification
(including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to take any multiple
teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other team warriors).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not
properly declare or get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by
Turn 1. In other words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the
Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn
3. All conditions must be met before scoring will begin--declaration, verification,
and Gift Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note:
the intent is to have a very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are
required from the moderators.)
Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
Win Loss Kill Die
Up Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Down Challenge 0 -2 0 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud Challenge (Up or Down) +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion ** x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
Tournament Death*** -5
Halfway (6 round total) best alliance win/loss percentage ****
Final (12 round total) alliance w/l% percentage ****
*After 2nd win in DA, warrior scores no additional points for wins,
** A Champion's double score applies to his score only -- not to the opponent.
*** No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death
or death in a tournament. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any point
and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -10 points.) Points awarded for
tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, 15 for a TV and 25 for a TC. Death in
a tournament negates any tournament points gained and results in a-5 score.
***** Halfway points scored are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
(etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must have fought 75% of its
possible fights.) Final 12 Round points scored are 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc)
for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must
have fought 75% of its possible fights.)
Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Style Master +2
1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Duelmaster +2
Champions:
1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
4. Champions must have fought at least one previous fight in the North Fork
(DM47 arena) to be able to be declared a champion.
Bloodfeuds:
1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:
1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 15 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) wins
such status.
3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) win
such status.
4. Points awarded for tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, (15
total for a TV and 25 total for a TC.) However, death in a tournament will result in
a -5 score for that tournament. (If a warrior TV's and is subsequently killed in a
tournament the points scored are -5 for that tournament.)
5. Points for TVs and TCs and tournament deaths will be applied the Turn
after RSI posts tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North Fork turn 276
to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with Alliance A.
If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf War with Team A.
3. There will be a maximum of five (5) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War VII.
4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.
Prizes:
The Turf War is normally a "winner take all" contest. However, for TWVII, a prize
will be awarded each of the twelve turns to the individual team/manager that fights
five fights and has the best w/l record that turn. (Tiebreakers are in order --
kills,
recognition points earned.) All prizes and 100% of the Gift Certificates will be
awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance at the end of the competition. It is
the responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
All entry fees (rollup certs) are awarded to the winning alliance, except for
the twelve reserved for the individual winning manager each week.)
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of all Dark Arena Monsters (two for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have at least one
DM47 arena fight to receive this award).
4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each and every individual manager who
fights in all 12 rounds AND 54 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied
to a living warrior from (DM 47)
These RSI awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee)
within 4 turns of the end of TW VI. The certs will be mailed to the winning alliance
by the Moderators within two weeks of the end of the TW.
Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com or
wfms101 at aol dot com.
Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!
This contest will begin in November 2010 following the Fall Mail In.
