DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
There standing on the DM throne was the scrawny AB from Tripwire's stable,
Zevran. His hair was slicked back and he was standing there singing into a short
spear, and gyrating his body in horrid ways. "Weeeeeee are the champions my
freinddsssssss, and weeeeell keep on fighting till the enddddd!"
Trying to keep his head from exploding from the sound, Tripwire raised his hand
and the singing abruptly ended with a gasp as the DM from his stable was lifted from
his chair and he bodily started floating towards the psionic.
Staring into the warrior's eyes as he gasped for breath Tripwire began to speak
calmly. "You do realize that you will now be bloodfueded, correct? You do realize
that you have about a 1% change of winning that Bloodfued, correct? And here you
are, instead of practicing, singing some ridiculous song!"
Now turning purple the AB's eyes were beginning to water from lack of air, he
was struggling to get a breath and kept clawing at his throat. "I have told you all
time and again that I care not for anything except winning. I don't care about the
throne. I don't care about sending you to tournaments or winning prizes here. I am
here for one reason. To make this city mine. In the arena and out. And if you
don't WIN, I can't move my stable higher in the rankings and have more power. I have
plans for Shadowspire."
Tripwire's thoughts moved away a moment before he realized that his AB was limp
and unconscious. Waving his hand he released the warrior into a heap on the ground
and after ensuring the idiot was still breathing he turned and walked out of the
room. "Plans indeed...."
SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly SHADOWSPIRE games. Former top team RODENT CLAN was
unseated this week as LITERATE LOONS moved up from 3rd ranking to take the top spot
with a 5-0-0 record for the round. The proverbial rising comet can only hope to
compare with PHILANTHROPISTS' team record! A 4-1-0 week and now a firm grasp on a
4th place ranking. LA PENTARCHIE bore the brunt of major assault on their standings
this week as they dropped to 18th position as the result of going 1-4-0! Did only my
eyes note the 4-1-0 record which OF WOLF AND MAN managed to post this round? I don't
doubt that such a record will draw challengers! ELTHOR caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested BRICK MOUSE and was awarded 23 points
in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, ELTHOR put down BRICK
MOUSE, causing it to lose 14 points of recognition in the process. Who here was not
present for the title fight this week as MIDNIGHT SUN boldly challenged ZEVRAN in
order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? The city has turned out in honor of
MIDNIGHT SUN, for with hers arena victory she may now lay claim to the highest
position in the city! Heed this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels
this week, the whole city shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In SHADOWSPIRE "art" is a word that
has long since passed from the language! My inside sources tell me that the team to
beat in SHADOWSPIRE these days is CAPITAL CARTEL. At least, most blades in town are
looking to avoid them. Apparently the stalwarts of DARQUE AGES are catching the bulk
of jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Loose
talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many
fighters are after AZAGHAL. Watch your back! A match that raised a few eyebrows at
the games this week, it seems that BERSERKER posted a challenge against the more
highly recognized KID CHARLEMAGNE. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand
BERSERKER was defeated by KID CHARLEMAGNE. Remember warriors, this is the discipline
of steel.
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? My hearty congratulations DOPPLEGANGER, for thy revenge upon
ALEKSANDR, slayer of thy fallen comrade. Next time he will know better, eh? Some
say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger
in hand then a sword on the belt!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in SHADOWSPIRE. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I
keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari
