Four shadowy shapes shuffled cautiously across the main room. They seemed humanoid; at least they moved like such as they slowly glided across the tiled floor. They slipped around dark blotches signifying furniture; they bumped into a few large pieces anyway. These were somewhat painful experiences, judging by their coarse, muffled expletives. Elbowing each other and whispering warnings and rebukes under their breaths, they navigated their way to the private stairway at the far end of the room. They paused at the foot of the narrow stairs, somehow in silent agreement, controlling their breathing and steadying their nerves. The smallest of them went first, her steps light and wary. Behind her came a slightly taller silhouette, though slimmer. Two tall figures followed, one broad and one thin; their footsteps were sure and heavy on the carpeted steps as they climbed. The group was swathed in cloying dark like night-born shades from hell. At the top of the stairs the four stopped and listened. They heard their hearts hammering against their chests. They heard the air slip agonizingly in and out of their lungs as they tried to melt into the very darkness itself. Finally, a faint, choking snort exploded into the forced quiet. A man coughed and wheezed and coughed some more. The four figures floated purposefully towards the sounds of coughing, coming to a stop at a heavily reinforced door. A thin sliver of wavering light glimmered at the foot of the door. The smallest shadow put her face to the light, attempting to peer into the room beyond. A slice of a narrow, freckled face came into being. A stray lock of dark hair curled down her left cheek as Hippodameia tilted her face against the floor. The glimmer lit up her hazel eye, which seemed to glow in response. There was another sudden eruption: coughing and hacking and wheezing. The crumpling of the sheets and groaning from the bedsprings could be heard. Hippodameia pulled her face away from the door and rose to her feet. She turned and headed for the stairs. After a brief moment, the others followed hesitantly. Once down the stairs Hippodameia led the troop back across the main room, quicker now and not as quietly as before. Once through the far door, dim candlelight showed their forms. Hippodameia-- small, slight, and quick as a snake, led. Pandera Pax -- slightly taller, sinewy and graceful, glided easily in her wake. Patroclus -- Thick-chested and frowning, tramped close on Pandera's heels. Polydamas -- The tallest, moving in a lanky, loose-jointed gait, kept pace behind the rest. "So what's the good word?" demanded Patroclus once they reached the kitchen. Hippodameia raised her hand and arched her eyebrows imperiously. Pandera grinned but spun fluidly aside to check the pantry. Patroclus glowered briefly, but checked the door to they weren't followed. Polydamas stood limply and ran his eye frankly over Hippodameia's taut form. She ignored him as the others quickly returned. They formed a knotted huddle. "Okay, I don't think we're fighting in this next round," Hippodameia whispered. "I couldn't see Havoc, but I got a look at his hand when he was coughing..." "Yeah, and from that you know we're not fighting this week?" Patroclus sneered. Pandera elbowed him neatly in the ribs, causing him to wince. "His skin is whiter than I've ever seen it!" Hippodameia declared. "And there's bottles all over the floor. Empty bottles." "What kind of bottles?" asked Patroclus. "Jhelum's Justice, I think. I dunno. There were a lot of 'em." "Well, he likes that Justice stuff," Pandera replied. "And the alcohol helps numb his cough response," Polydamas nodded. "Who the hell asked YOU, rookie?!" snarled Patroclus with an evil glare. Polydamas shrugged, but didn't look away. "Never mind, never mind," muttered Hippodameia. "Havoc's been sick for a while now; we haven't seen him at practice for the past few days and, well, I don't think he's been out of his room all that time." "I think you're right," nodded Pandera. "So no paperwork filed with the arena officials, I guess." "No glorious bloodfeuding!" growled Patroclus, shaking his unruly head in disappointment. "I was really looking forward to kicking some ass, too!" "Those Literate Loons are an old team. I doubt if they're all pushovers," Pandera pointed out. "Who cares?" Hippodameia blurted. "You don't kill my teammate and just waltz away!" "Yeah, yeah!" nodded Patroclus emphatically. "We take you in the arena! Then you limp out or someone else drags you out." "Or what's left of you!" muttered Pandera through gritted teeth. "You had a piece of him already, girl. Take a number and wait your turn," laughed Hippodameia. "Hey, that Tommy Wolfe and I still have another date!" protested Pandera. "I was planning on making that punk my personal eunuch." "Amen, sister!" nodded Polydamas. He looked down into Hippodameia's eyes and winked. "Huh! Why should you care, Rookie?" Patroclus smirked. "You're probably headed for the Dark Arena anyway, spud." Poydamas gave a loose-jointed shrug in reply. Patroclus ignored him, sighed heavily and hung his head. "I can't pay my tab if I don't fight this week... I guess I'll just go to bed..." Patroclus looked at his teammates. They each met his eyes, but said nothing. Polydamas shrugged again. "Enjoy your stay of execution!" growled Patroclus. He stomped away, headed for the door. He didn't see the crude gesture Polydamas made at his back as he left, but Pandera and Hippodameia did. They giggled briefly and then turned to follow Patroclus back to their barracks. "He's probably right, you know," said Hippodameia, smiling, as Polydamas stepped close behind her. He bent forward. "Doesn't a convicted man get one last wish?" he whispered into her ear. "Buy me a bottle of Justice and maybe we can talk about it," chuckled Hippodameia. DUELMASTER'S COLUMN Notes from the arena champ. Thank you, thank you everyone, it's great to be back on the throne. Wait, what's that... (brushes something off of his shoulder)... oh, it's just a little Briarsmile brain, I've been finding it everywhere... should have called The Wolf for a proper clean-up. Sorry, Philanthropists, but you're only going to get one shot at the Bloodfeud as I got my invite to the Isle of the Eye. I hope there's some good fishing there as I enjoy my retirement. I know everyone wants to see what got me here, so my stats are: 17-4(5)-16-15-17-4-11 blessed with Awesome Dam +4 Def, +2 Att, Favs ME, VH/LO so I guess the 10-4-7 I've been running was right. Learns Rip. Xorn got his invite this turn also. That brick house's stats as he leaves for retirement are: 18(20)-18(20)-10-5(7)-20(21)-8-5(7). Adept with the ME VL/VL uses RIP to good effect, learns ATT. For the Wall of Fame in the Duelmaster's box, I've decided to leave my Lucky Codpiece. I'm a little superstitious so I never washed it... ENJOY! SPY REPORT As always, this arena is enough to raise the spirits of any enthusiast for dueling. But since a number of other activities have taken up the afternoon, I will plunge straight into the spy report. Sixty-seven fights! This is really, really good. Only three standbys. Thirty- two challenges, five of them Dark Arena challenges. I don't care what the arenamaster says, the Dark Arena IS a trash can, and no two ways about it. I see by the notes given me that Capital Cartell, who went 3-2-0, dropped five places in the team ranking. Hard luck, but it happens. Especially where the competition is fierce--such as here. In contrast, Bubba's 66th Army, who also went 3-2-0, rose eight places in the rankings. This probably goes to show something or other. Of Wolf And Man went 4-1-0, and, as the clerk who handed me the notes said, "You never know where this kind of thing can lead." Virginia Woolf had the biggest personal point gain at twenty-five points. Kiss My Grits had the biggest loss, at fifteen points. The Duelmaster, Beserker, got the most challenges: seven in number. Being top dog, even top dog headed for the Isle, is always a risky proposition. Of Wolf And Man was most avoided. Conventional wisdom sayd that this means they are a team to beat. What *I* say is, it means they're a team hard to beat. The most avoiding, of that directed at the Wolf and Man team, came from Clan Longbeard. Not that there wasn't a LOT of avoiding going around. I make it fifty-seven avoids issued, in most cases the avoiders issued two each, but obviously someone slipped. Besides the Dark Arena deaths, I count two that are going to make waves, or at least cause bloodfeuds: El Cid at the hands of Pizzarrhea, and Bluebell Bunny at the hands of Creiddy Lad. Details to follow. Let's start by noting quickly the Dark Arena challenges: WILLIAM (81-1516) (0-0-0,0) of DETHKLOK DA challenged BLACK ORC (81-20) (0-0- 0,60) of DARK ARENA. WILLIAM was butchered by BLACK ORC in a 1 minute Dark Arena fight. The Black Orc was heard to make a very derisive comment after the fight, but Black Orcs are like that. KID SUPERIOMAGNE (81-1499) (0-1-0,1) of SUPERIOR FORCES NT DA challenged MOUNTAIN TROLL (81-18) (0-0-0,40) of DARK ARENA. KID SUPERIOMAGNE was slain by MOUNTAIN TROLL in a 2 minute bloody Dark Arena duel. Mountain Trolls are brutes, and if anyone tells me HE made a comment after the fight, derisive or otherwise, I won't believe it. ST JOE STRUMMER (81-1439) (2-5-0,17) of SUMMERBORN DA challenged SPYMASTER (81- 22) (0-0-0,70) of DARK ARENA. ST JOE STRUMMER was murdered by SPYMASTER in an exciting 1 minute Dark Arena melee. I've got a sort of a feeling about this fight. The kind of feeling that says things like, "Maybe that spymaster faked the kill to get Joe in his power, because spymasters like having people in their power." Could the spymaster here be UP to something? Time will perhaps tell. CEO (81-1040) (5-10-0,25) of CORPORATE IDIOTS DA challenged BANDIT PRINCE (81- 25) (0-0-0,60) of DARK ARENA. CEO was butchered by BANDIT PRINCE in a 1 minute Dark Arena duel. And he laughed. The Bandit Prince. He had to become a bandit because of downsizing, and he holds grudges. THE RIGHT HAND (81-1456) (2-4-1,33) of SUMMERBORN DA challenged ARENAMASTER (81- 23) (0-0-0,100) of DARK ARENA. THE RIGHT HAND was butchered by Arenamaster Jaime Rinvar in a 1 minute Dark Arena fight. Can it be that Rinvar is looking for a right- hand man? Hmm. The random matches: ANIMAL EDGE (81-1532) (0-0-0,0) of MMA WARRIORS fought CONVICTED THIEF (81-1) (0-0-0,5) of Loyal Standbys. ANIMAL EDGE overpowered CONVICTED THIEF in a 3 minute one-sided fight. Thieves, bah. They may be clever with their fingers, but fighting is not what they're good at... rather obviously. REIGNING CAIN (81-1530) (0-0-0,0) of MMA WARRIORS fought LIZZIE DUSK (81-1538) (0-0-0,0) of THE RED BLADES. REIGNING CAIN was overpowered by LIZZIE DUSK in a 1 minute one-sided match. I'd rather it rained cain than frogs, I suppose. I was in Talcama once when it rained frogs. The first day was... squishy, and for three days after that, the whole town smelled like rotting frogs. NATHAN (81-1519) (0-0-0,0) of DETHKLOK fought CYBORG SANTA (81-1529) (0-0-0,0) of MMA WARRIORS. NATHAN demolished CYBORG SANTA in a 1 minute mismatched duel. I salute Nathan. I've seen those cyborg santas around--they were everywhere a couple of months ago, and they're abominations. Smash! Kill! ANIMAL (81-1523) (0-1-0,1) of BUBBA'S 66TH ARMY fought TRIXIE BUNNY (81-1537) (0-0-0,0) of FUZZY BUNNIES. ANIMAL defeated TRIXIE BUNNY in a 1 minute amateur's fight. This was a weird match to watch. You don't often see that much fur-covered armor around. PURPLE DRO (81-1525) (0-1-0,1) of BUBBA'S 66TH ARMY fought SKWISGAAR (81-1515) (0-0-0,0) of DETHKLOK. PURPLE DRO lost to SKWISGAAR in an exciting 1 minute gruesome novice's match. Uh... I guess I just have to say that one left me confused. AK'S & CHEVROLETS (81-1527) (1-0-0,13) of BUBBA'S 66TH ARMY fought GEORGIA ST PIERRE (81-1531) (0-0-0,0) of MMA WARRIORS. AK'S & CHEVROLETS defeated GEORGIA ST PIERRE in a dull 4 minute novice's fight. A Chevy is always good. At least, that's what I've been told. But looking at Georgia's four-minute hold-out, you have to wonder what we may soon be seeing with her. A tough broad, for sure. LT SHINY SIDES (81-1524) (1-0-0,21) of BUBBA'S 66TH ARMY fought SPIDER SILVER (81-1533) (0-0-0,0) of MMA WARRIORS. LT SHINY SIDES subdued SPIDER SILVER in a 2 minute gory beginner's duel. Is this a plot of some kind, to pit these two teams against each other? There ARE other opponents here. Lots of 'em! GLOOM (81-1528) (1-0-0,11) of FUCHI OWNED fought TOKI (81-1517) (0-0-0,0) of DETHKLOK. GLOOM was defeated by TOKI in a 3 minute amateur's bout. I'm always glad to see gloom defeated, and at this time of year, it isn't easy. So congratulations to Toki on that one. As good as a ray of sunshine. OZYMADIAS NIX (81-1507) (1-1-0,4) of THE RED BLADES fought MURDERFACE (81-1518) (0-0-0,0) of DETHKLOK. OZYMADIAS NIX overcame MURDERFACE in a 2 minute amateur's bout. Good work. Who would NOT want to overcome a "murder-face"? Ugly dude. TIAMAT (81-1504) (3-0-0,19) of MONSTER MANUAL fought SAVIOR STRENGTH (81-1535) (0-0-0,0) of O' HOLY KNIGHTS. TIAMAT vanquished SAVIOR STRENGTH in a 3 minute brutal mismatched match. A cool name is not enough, obviously. ALP ARSLAN (81-1473) (3-1-0,21) of DARQUE AGES fought STALKING STUFFR (81-1493) (1-2-0,13) of O' HOLY KNIGHTS. ALP ARSLAN was beaten by STALKING STUFFR in a 2 minute novice's match. Huh, see if I ever let this Stuffr into MY stockings! Obviously, a trouble-maker. ZIGGY PIKE (81-1487) (0-4-0,4) of DRAGONBANE GUILD fought TALL FALL (81-1534) (0-0-0,0) of PHILANTHROPISTS. ZIGGY PIKE narrowly defeated TALL FALL in a crowd pleasing 5 minute amateur's fight. And if you ask yourself why the crowd was pleased with this match, bear in mind that it was during this fight that the venders brought in a new batch of sausages-in-a-bun. CREIDDY LAD (81-1484) (2-2-0,8) of SUMMERBORN fought BLUEBELL BUNNY (81-1536) (0-0-0,0) of FUZZY BUNNIES. CREIDDY LAD executed BLUEBELL BUNNY in a 1 minute bloody uneven bout. One of the two non-DA deaths. "Executed." Makes you wonder, doesn't it? What hidden secrets lurked here? SQUASHAPILLAR (81-1478) (2-3-1,12) of FURRY FURY fought 1010011010 (81-1526) (1- 0-1,14) of BUBBA'S 66TH ARMY. SQUASHAPILLAR bested 1010011010 in a 1 minute brawl. Good! I have no patience for those machine-language types. Are we machines? Do we have any desire to be machines? No. PORCUPAIN (81-1453) (2-5-1,17) of FURRY FURY fought WONDERFACE (81-1522) (1-0- 0,12) of LA PENTARCHIE. PORCUPAIN was devastated by WONDERFACE in a 1 minute one- sided match. Better a wonderface than a murderface, I suppose. But one does wonder about it all. CHARLES MARTEL (81-1346) (7-8-0,32) of DARQUE AGES fought WALKER PERCY (81-1474) (2-3-0,9) of LITERATE LOONS. CHARLES MARTEL savagely defeated WALKER PERCY in a crowd pleasing 4 minute battle. Does this mean that Charlie is not a reader? Of course, it is hard to read in the darque. PUNT (81-1366) (6-9-0,27) of CAPITAL CARTEL fought TYGER (81-1421) (3-7-0,16) of PAPER TIGERS. PUNT handily defeated TYGER in a 1 minute mismatched match. Looks like it was a toss-up who needed the win more. ROUNDUP (81-1388) (4-5-0,33) of THE MONSANTIS fought BENEDICT (81-1470) (2-3- 0,9) of OF WOLF AND MAN. ROUNDUP slimly lost to BENEDICT in a 3 minute contest. Roundup? Cattle? I'm not getting this. SILENT KNIGHT (81-1497) (2-1-0,28) of O' HOLY KNIGHTS fought EYE (81-1419) (2-8- 0,14) of PAPER TIGERS. SILENT KNIGHT savagely defeated EYE in a 2 minute novice vs. veteran upset battle. Amazingly, it was a totally silent battle. I didn't know that was possible. We could all SEE metal striking metal, but we didn't hear a thing. JOHN F QUEENY (81-1429) (3-2-0,25) of THE MONSANTIS fought GRAHAM GREENE (81- 1435) (4-4-0,16) of LITERATE LOONS. JOHN F QUEENY demolished GRAHAM GREENE in a 1 minute mismatched match. Not a good day for authors, apparently. BOWTIE BOB (81-930) (11-9-0,51) of FUCHI OWNED fought LIGDISH BANG (81-983) (11- 21-0,54) of PHILANTHROPISTS. BOWTIE BOB overpowered LIGDISH BANG in a crowd pleasing 1 minute one-sided fray. And to think I believed bowties were out! Just goes to show. GUTTER BALL (81-1361) (11-5-0,45) of CAPITAL CARTEL fought THE USEROUS MERCHANT (81-10) (0-0-0,45) of Loyal Standbys. GUTTER BALL outlasted THE USEROUS MERCHANT in a tiring 16 minute duel. SIXTEEN minutes? You should be darned glad, Gutter, that you had the Merchant to hide behind. The lions are trained not to bite him. PIZZARRHEA (81-1348) (10-7-0,42) of OTTO'S DINER fought EL CID (81-1443) (5-2- 1,33) of DARQUE AGES. PIZZARRHEA murdered EL CID in a 1 minute brutal one-sided match. An execution, and now a murder. What dark secrets lurk beneath the surface of this arena? MAGIC RAT (81-1317) (11-11-0,50) of JUNGLELAND fought ZOG CORNERSTONE (81-1319) (10-11-0,41) of LA PENTARCHIE. MAGIC RAT devastated ZOG CORNERSTONE in an action packed 1 minute mismatched match. That's rats for you. Always destroying things. SUPVSR (81-1083) (8-6-0,66) of CORPORATE IDIOTS fought MARCO POLO (81-1375) (10- 2-1,52) of DARQUE AGES. SUPVSR overcame MARCO POLO in a 2 minute fight. No surprise, when you consider that Marco was all set to take a very long junket on company time and at expense. One has to keep on top of these things in business. NARYAK (81-1296) (14-10-1,83) of CLAN LONGBEARD fought KUNG-FU MASTER (81-13) (0-0-0,70) of Loyal Standbys. NARYAK devastated KUNG-FU MASTER in an action packed 1 minute mismatched match. Devastation, okay, but try not to kill the standbys. They're hard to replace. THE SUPERIOR CAT (81-1230) (17-8-0,81) of SUPERIOR FORCES NT fought MADDENED MEERKAT (81-1134) (12-26-0,64) of FURRY FURY. THE SUPERIOR CAT subdued MADDENED MEERKAT in a 6 minute expert's duel. I thought all cats were superior, at least in their own minds? AUGUST (81-1212) (21-11-1,89) of SUMMERBORN fought CICERO (81-1266) (16-9-0,75) of WARMASTERS. AUGUST overcame CICERO in a 2 minute gory veteran's duel. No surprise here, August overcame me when the air conditioner broke. FIMNAR (81-1053) (19-27-1,86) of CLAN LONGBEARD fought SUPERIORBANE (81-1226) (15-10-0,63) of SUPERIOR FORCES NT. FIMNAR savagely defeated SUPERIORBANE in a crowd pleasing 8 minute veteran's duel. Eight minutes, you're pushing it, guys. It's too COLD for the fans to sit around that long. Even the most avid fan doesn't appreciate frostbitten toes. '68 ROAD RUNNER (81-747) (18-9-0,75) of AMERICAN MUSCLE fought ANGRY SALAD (81- 1432) (6-2-0,70) of OTTO'S DINER. '68 ROAD RUNNER subdued ANGRY SALAD in a popular 4 minute duel. You know, these reckless vehicles are a danger. BOBBY JEAN (81-1197) (19-16-0,91) of JUNGLELAND fought LIMP IN (81-1057) (24-19- 0,99) of CAPITAL CARTEL. BOBBY JEAN slimly lost to LIMP IN in a tiresome 10 minute bloody veteran's fight. So tell me, did it seem to you that all of the sudden Limpy wasn't limping... when the lion showed up at the entrance gate? That fight got wound up fast. ELTHOR (81-1237) (21-12-0,92) of CLAN LONGBEARD fought CHUPUCASUPERIOR (81-1229) (19-6-0,142) of SUPERIOR FORCES NT. ELTHOR was devastated by CHUPUCASUPERIOR in a 1 minute one-sided battle. Is "de-bearding" a valid tactic here? FAN ZHEN (81-1288) (14-7-1,111) of DARQUE AGES fought ZEVRAN (81-1258) (15-14- 1,83) of OF WOLF AND MAN. FAN ZHEN devastated ZEVRAN in a 1 minute one-sided duel. When the steward announced this fight, it sounded like a couple of bees. Maybe you guys should avoid each other to eliminate that problem. CARIEC TOM (81-984) (25-26-2,119) of LA PENTARCHIE fought VIRGINIA WOOLF (81- 1263) (8-19-1,67) of LITERATE LOONS. CARIEC TOM was savagely defeated by VIRGINIA WOOLF in a 4 minute veteran's bout. That's got to be embarrassing for Tom! PRONATE (81-1320) (14-7-1,91) of CAPITAL CARTEL fought ELILAD (81-1055) (17-9- 0,105) of PHILANTHROPISTS. PRONATE was subdued by ELILAD in a 2 minute veteran's fight. Doubtless this was a philanthropic act in some fashion not clear to me. Ah! The challenge matches! TITINIUS (81-1492) (0-3-0,3) of WARMASTERS challenged OAKHURST (81-1509) (2-0- 0,16) of THE MONSANTIS. Up 13. Looks like desperation to me. TITINIUS was handily defeated by OAKHURST in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. And Titinius reaps the usual reward for desperate actions in battle. He should be glad he survived. HAROLD ANGEL (81-1494) (0-3-0,3) of O' HOLY KNIGHTS challenged MR WIGGLES (81- 1477) (1-3-0,6) of FUZZY BUNNIES. Up 3. HAROLD ANGEL was defeated by MR WIGGLES in a 2 minute beginner's Challenge fight. Maybe not quite so desperate, and I will admit that I have to respect a major loser who keeps trying. The prospect of the Dark Arena can be a great motivator, too. TURIN (81-1486) (3-1-0,17) of DRAGONBANE GUILD challenged ANGEROO (81-1452) (5- 2-0,17) of FURRY FURY. Straight across. TURIN was overcome by ANGEROO in an exciting 5 minute Challenge duel. Though they were ranked the same, Angeroo had the edge in experience and used it. But the fact that Turin managed to hold out into the fifth minute speaks well of him. Watch this man. BANK SHOT (81-1471) (3-2-0,11) of CAPITAL CARTEL challenged WEE TREE KING (81- 1495) (2-1-0,12) of O' HOLY KNIGHTS. Up 1. BANK SHOT was viciously subdued by WEE TREE KING in a dull 5 minute Challenge bout. Tcha. Bank went in with the experience edge, and even in five minutes couldn't pull out a win? Tsk. TOM WOLFE (81-1467) (2-4-1,14) of LITERATE LOONS challenged VELVETEEN (81-1431) (3-3-0,15) of FUZZY BUNNIES. Up 1. TOM WOLFE won victory over VELVETEEN in a 2 minute gruesome Challenge bout. I bet it'll be a while before anyone ELSE tries to get Tom into velveteen breeches. ISIS BLOODSTONE (81-1475) (4-1-0,21) of THE RED BLADES challenged HOLY SHIITAKE (81-1433) (5-3-0,24) of OTTO'S DINER. Up 3. ISIS BLOODSTONE was overpowered by HOLY SHIITAKE in a 2 minute Challenge bout. Is Holy powered by a god? But isn't Isis a goddess? Will the tendrils of this battle echo through the world? Nah... probably not. So far. OFFICE BRWN NOSER (81-1114) (9-4-0,33) of CORPORATE IDIOTS challenged DOPPLEGANGER (81-1382) (8-6-0,46) of MONSTER MANUAL. Up 13. OFFICE BRWN NOSER unbelievably bested DOPPLEGANGER in a 4 minute Challenge match. Damn straight I don't believe this! Who'd've thought the Noser could put up a two-handed fight like that? Amazing. SNACKPACK (81-1466) (3-2-0,29) of FUCHI OWNED challenged LUHAN (81-1441) (6-2- 0,28) of OF WOLF AND MAN. Down 1. SNACKPACK was luckily beaten by LUHAN in a 2 minute gory Challenge fight. Ah, well, you know how it is with wolves, always hungry. What's a snack to a wolf? Just a fast mouthful. Okay, maybe two fast mouthfuls. BUNNY FOO FOO (81-1476) (2-2-0,24) of FUZZY BUNNIES challenged FLACCUS (81-1455) (2-5-0,25) of WARMASTERS. Up 1. BUNNY FOO FOO unbelievably bested FLACCUS in a 3 minute gory Challenge contest. I believe it. Flaccus was defeated as much by his own embarrassment at his opponent's name as anything. SISI BA-NETERU (81-1488) (3-1-1,38) of THE RED BLADES challenged JAKLAK (81- 1430) (5-4-0,40) of CLAN LONGBEARD. Up 2. SISI BA-NETERU was outlasted by JAKLAK in an action packed 7 minute Challenge fray. Seven minutes? Careful, you push it past ten minutes and the lions come out! ARCHON (81-1390) (9-4-0,54) of OF WOLF AND MAN challenged '66 CORVETTE (81-1036) (5-2-2,54) of AMERICAN MUSCLE. Straight across, and you KNOW there are no hidden tourney fights here. ARCHON defeated '66 CORVETTE in an exciting 5 minute Challenge duel. So, with the experience edge, what took you so long, Archon? PETRONIUS (81-1434) (5-3-2,34) of WARMASTERS challenged BIG BONES BILLIE (81- 1442) (5-3-0,44) of JUNGLELAND. Up 10. PETRONIUS was devastated by BIG BONES BILLIE in a 2 minute Challenge contest. Never under-estimate those bones. HEINRIK (81-1257) (12-18-1,56) of CLAN LONGBEARD challenged HR (81-1039) (8-6- 0,64) of CORPORATE IDIOTS. Up 8. HEINRIK overpowered HR in a popular 1 minute bloody one-sided Challenge bout. Note how the Unemployed Fans cheered? There's a message in that. MADAM MARIE (81-1356) (10-7-0,40) of JUNGLELAND challenged LIAM O'SUPERIOR (81- 1302) (10-6-0,42) of SUPERIOR FORCES NT. Up 2. MADAM MARIE slimly won victory over LIAM O'SUPERIOR in a 12 minute Challenge fight. And not only did the Madam beat Liam, she also held off the lions, who were sent out to, ah, "hurry things along." A talented woman. '71 MACH ONE (81-952) (10-3-0,62) of AMERICAN MUSCLE challenged JAGER VON DRACHEN (81-1341) (11-7-0,48) of DRAGONBANE GUILD. Down 14. '71 MACH ONE viciously subdued JAGER VON DRACHEN in a 4 minute Challenge bout. At four minutes, it can't be hit and run. '69 FAIRLANE COBRA (81-1007) (7-2-1,66) of AMERICAN MUSCLE challenged LIFE PATENT (81-1340) (7-7-0,54) of THE MONSANTIS. Down 12. '69 FAIRLANE COBRA overpowered LIFE PATENT in a 1 minute uneven Challenge struggle. This one might've been, though. MACEO (81-928) (10-10-1,77) of FUCHI OWNED challenged KISS MY GRITS (81-1252) (21-10-0,91) of OTTO'S DINER. Up 14. MACEO outwaited KISS MY GRITS in a 13 minute veteran's Challenge conflict. This is the fight for which Kiss lost points big time, besides being bitten by a lion. CYRIL WYRMSLAYER (81-1267) (14-12-1,82) of DRAGONBANE GUILD challenged OUTLAW PETE (81-1200) (24-11-0,84) of JUNGLELAND. Up 2. CYRIL WYRMSLAYER viciously subdued OUTLAW PETE in a 3 minute Challenge battle. Since Pete is not a wyrm, he survived, but you can see it might have gone otherwise. Cyril isn't playing games. VICTOR (81-1369) (9-6-0,67) of WARMASTERS challenged A.E. HOUSMAN (81-1306) (14- 8-1,105) of LITERATE LOONS. Up a lot; 38, I make it. VICTOR was bested by A.E. HOUSMAN in a 2 minute Challenge conflict. Well, that looks good for the writing trade. Although I will admit that with sixty-seven fights, it's hard to hold them all in my memory. CLASSIC NAPALM (81-1262) (13-14-0,67) of LA PENTARCHIE challenged PIT FIEND (81- 1344) (11-6-1,75) of MONSTER MANUAL. Up 8. CLASSIC NAPALM overpowered PIT FIEND in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge match. Odd, you'd think a pit fiend would have no problem with the fire. NYDERAWYN (81-1046) (13-14-0,80) of PHILANTHROPISTS challenged SHAVIOLA (81- 1322) (15-6-0,85) of OF WOLF AND MAN. Up 5. NYDERAWYN was beaten by SHAVIOLA in a 2 minute veteran's Challenge melee. Looks like this Shaviola is a tough nut to crack. SINISTER SNOOPY (81-1069) (18-23-0,110) of FURRY FURY challenged GOULASH (81- 1215) (22-13-0,135) of OTTO'S DINER. Up 25. SINISTER SNOOPY was vanquished by GOULASH in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. Hmm. Does this indicate that Snoopy got a big snoot full of paprika? XORN (81-1015) (24-21-0,93) of MONSTER MANUAL challenged TING-TING (81-776) (21- 9-0,113) of FUCHI OWNED. Up 20. XORN unbelievably bested TING-TING in a popular 5 minute expert's Challenge duel. Why is this hard to believe? Xorn is acknowledged good enough for the Isle, after all. BLUE MARBLE (81-1030) (24-23-0,95) of DRAGONBANE GUILD challenged '08 CHALLENGER (81-920) (10-5-1,102) of AMERICAN MUSCLE. Up 7. BLUE MARBLE overcame '08 CHALLENGER in a 4 minute uneven Challenge fight. I had a blue marble once, but I won more with the red-and-white one. SUICIDE SEED (81-1402) (4-4-2,30) of THE MONSANTIS bloodfeuded VACA (81-1210) (18-14-1,69) of SUMMERBORN. Up 39. SUICIDE SEED was bested by VACA in a 2 minute mismatched Bloodfeud match. What can you expect from soneone named "Suicide"? That challenge was just asking for it. And it doesn't settle the bloodfeud, either. SHILLELAGH TOR (81-1294) (12-12-0,53) of THE RED BLADES bloodfeuded FIDGET (81- 1403) (7-5-1,49) of LA PENTARCHIE. Down 4. SHILLELAGH TOR devastated FIDGET in a 1 minute one-sided Bloodfeud duel. This one DID settle the bloodfeud, and congratulations to Tor for that. For the title: ONYB ENGLVAR (81-903) (19-18-0,107) of PHILANTHROPISTS bloodfeuded BERSERKER (81-1047) (19-24-3,167) of MONSTER MANUAL. Up 60. ONYB ENGLVAR overpowered BERSERKER in a 1 minute mismatched Bloodfeud Title match. Amazing and worthy of a major party tonight. I'll buy the first round. Congratulations to Onyb and a farewell to Berserker. Hubba, hubba! -- Limp In Ting-Ting -- I wish you hadn't done that. I was looking for a long, quiet run. -- Pronate (injured again) Shucks! Another 2-3. Life is just not as fun as in the good old days. (wink) -- Agent Berserker -- Well done, Duelmaster. -- All The Capital Cartel All -- I am getting together as many Duelmaster players as possible to play in a game of Hyborian War as a change of pace. We already have 17 players that are interested and we are trying to get as many as possible involved before I submit the list to RSI. I am collecting the names and top 3 kingdoms that the players are interested in and submitting it myself so we can all play in the same game. If you are interested PM me in the DuelII Forums at Tripwire or email me at azaer123@comcast.net. -- Tripwire Maceo is a very good warrior! Now I'm going to try again with my awesome favorite weapon... the Large Shield! That was a joke... I challenged Berserker for a nice goodbye fight. Thrive and prosper, Shadoswpire! -- Cariec Tom the Very Old Ozymandias is always a pleasant name to read. -- LP Condolences for Luke Wayfare. It was a challenge, but Fidget was working for the team ratio, not for the Undertaker... -- LP Surprising fight, Walker Percy, I wish I could have read it line by line without knowing the result! -- LP Nicely done, Hot Stuff, I was pretty confident I could take the throne from the bloody hands of my friend... -- Zoum la Bouse Oops! Poor Mercenary... a guy should fight for fun or for glory, not for money! Fun and glory don't pay the bills, unfortunately. -- Vet. Merc. Snowball -- Let's not abuse of the good things (a gallicism I guess !)... -- Areopolite. Torturing Tulip -- Two told me you were welcome to the small cottage he bought for the delicious retired days ahead! -- LP Ah... maybe I should move a copy of the preceding two personals to Fratsfa? Vaca -- You treat me like a cub, but I learn so little! -- Roundup Velveteen -- You're awful. Go to the Dark Arena. -- Suicide Seed I could wish people did not view the Dark Arena as a trash can. We're professionals and deserving of respect. -- Arenamaster Jaime Rinvar Victor -- Far from over, you slippery buffoon. -- Life Patent Warmasters -- Do what you must. -- Roundup Polydumas -- Really? Your team seems to be full of excuses in every newsletter. -- Oakhurst Bankshot -- Uh... I think your helm was on backwards. Was that on purpose? -- Oakhurst So he could see anyone who was sneaking up behind him? Brown Noser -- How the devil? You can really take a licking. Very unexpected but nicely done. -- John F Queeny Shaviola -- It has been my goal to disappoint since round one, how am I doing? -- Meerkat Some people have a true gift that way. Berserker -- So, you wanted some of me? I challenged last turn, and I am coming back this turn. Grats on the graduation and bad luck if we meet on the sands. -- Snoopy Ben -- Don't keep challenging me or I will put that AB to rest. Two of my 3 lower guys are legit killers. -- Grimm Hey, Elephant, good to see you return. Our friend Kellumbo has not been back, I wonder where he is. -- Grimm Mazatlan? Hombre -- Did you go to Phoenix? -- Grimm Bank shot -- Sorry, Grimm liked the match up, plus he has to get you under .600 he says. Once upon a time Furry was well above .500, look at us now. 8( -- Angeroo P.S. Grimm says he should be back in Aruak by mid to late march. Fan Zhen -- I knew that was going to be bad when I saw your name. Not who I want to fight, for sure. -- Zevran Classic Napalm -- Oooh, I like that rhythm. I think I will try that one out for a bit see what happens. -- Shaviola Polydamas -- If I hadn't known better I would have thought you were trying to kill me! -- Benedict Doppleganger -- Well, I gotta fight someone! -- Archon Turin -- Jeez! I taught you a ton at least. -- Luhan Pandara Pax -- Maybe in the far far future! -- Archon Housman *- Not enough avoids. -- Blue Marble Charles Martel -- Perhaps the Franks are impressed, but those of us of a more Northern persuasion are not. -- Jager von Drachen Snoopy -- Oh, man! Taken out by a beagle with a really big nose! You may claim to be sinister, but I just can't see it. Snoozing away on top of the Guildhall looking so innocent! I'll bet you do it just to trick us! Consider me tricked. -- Cyril Luhan -- Nice challenge. Nice win. Ugly turn for us. -- Turin Hector -- I was struggling enough without running into someone with 5x as much experience. Ouch. -- Ziggy Pike Hail, Lord Protectors Berserker and Xorn of Monster Manual and LP Cariec Tom of the LP stable managed by LP! -- Bill the Bard and The Red Blades Gutter Ball -- Believe it or not, you looked like the best challenge. -- Sisi Snackpack -- Didn't even leave me a crumb. -- Ozy Never settle for crumbs. Take it all. Madam Marie -- Right in my wheelhouse, babe. Second nice matchup in a row for me, so you can be sure I'll get my comeuppance. Hopefully not this turn. -- Shillelagh Tor Eye -- In it for the thrill of the fight? -- Isis Fidget -- I've noticed that often happens to slashers. Good luck to you. -- Bill the Bard Ziggy -- Everybody gets theirs eventually, Zig. Not gonna lose any sleep. -- Ozy Welcome and Welcome Back -- To the old managers with old and new teams fighting in Shadowspire. -- The Red Blades Welcome back, Bubba! That was a pretty nice return. Three-2-1 and 50 points, not too shabby. -- Vanek, Manager of Warmasters The Right Hand -- I guess you proved your manager wrong with that fine performance last week. It's not easy coming back from the Dark Arena and I hope he gives you another chance. You certainly earned it. -- Vanek Mr Wiggles -- I've taken note of your 2 challenges in the last 3 turns. First fight went to you. Second fight went to me. I've changed my strategy and if there is a third fight, I'm going to try and end this little competition permanently. -- Flaccus Life Patient -- I admire your confidence and determination, but don't think this is going to be a fight you're going to be able to win long term. Oh, sure, you might get lucky once in a while and win (like our first fight when my weapon broke), but long term I think I'm going to beat you far more often than you beat me. If you disagree, though, I will certainly welcome more challenges from you with open arms. Good luck! -- Victor Berserker -- Congrats on two in a row! -- Vanek Trip -- Thanks for the respectful words a couple turns ago, but nah... Shaviola was better in every area. But I have grabbed 9 skills in the last 2 turns so maybe another attempt at some point... -- Maceo Cardiac Tom -- Uneven?? I don't see how getting you desperate and leaving you weaponless (yeah I know, for like a second...) is 'uneven'. Now if I can only find that reporter... -- Maceo Wasn't me! -- Larkin LP Berserker -- Congrats on holding the throne and getting the invite! Best of luck. -- O'Holy Knights LPs Xorn and Caric Tom -- Congrats on the invite good luck on the Isle. -- O'Holy Knights Creiddy Lad -- Sorry, I was feeling a bit Greedy, Lad. -- Wee Tree King Angeroo -- You are putting your anger to good use. -- Silent Knight Porcupain -- HARK! You have quills!!! -- Harold The better to write personals. Tiamat -- You quite the tough hide there, missy. -- Stalking Stuffr Winner of the "Name a Knight" contest goes to Deep Thought for coming up with Savior Strength. -- Gentleben who is still laughing I'm guessing these go here, rather than in Lapur? -- the editor Well, as CEOs go it is my time to resign from the Corporate Idiots. I have fulfilled my role as CEO in destroying the team record. Like I said, I come in make a mess of everything and then I leave, Job Done! Done well, I might add, though Owsly doesn't take it as good as I see it. He acts like he's some kind of share holder or something! He says I have to go to some "Dark Arena" or something. I have no idea what he's talking about but if that is where I have to go then that's where I have to go. -- CEO Having done a job well done. CEO -- Ye plan dannae work, CEO plans rarely work! Things always look good on paper ye arse, but til ye go oot and apply it, it means stale ale! Ye fired!!! Now go ta the Dark Arena like me told ya! Maybe they be higherin ye for a job. -- Owsly Me been looking for a drinkin spot when me come over ta Shadowspire to deal with these monkeys me have ta manage. Looks like ye Welcome Wench be ye place ta be! Gonna have ta check it oot! -- Owsly Would you guys take it amiss if I moved a just-out-of-Noblish Middle Way team in here?
