TEAM SPOTLIGHT
The Return
As the tall figure walked silently down the cobblestone street he noticed many
of the old guild houses were boarded up. He stopped in the middle of the dark road
and pulled out his flask of wine and proceeded to take a few healthy swigs out of it.
He continued on down towards the old part of the city where even more houses were
boarded up, some seemed longer abandoned than others. Among the empty houses, he
recognized many of his old rivals were gone! Dark were the houses of American
Muscle, Fuchi Owned, Ale House Mercs, Rodent Clan and even the hated Kellumbo's Kids!
The city still had a healthy group of competitive guilds but it still seemed a bit of
a shell of its previous self!
Continuing his walk down the dark city he noticed something else was odd, the
tavern was quiet! There wasn't anyone about. He knew it was late, but not so late
that there wouldn't be anyone out having a drink! He thought, "What is going on
here? This isn't the same city I left over 2 years ago! This will have to change!"
He finally reached his destination, guild house #4. It was dark, like most of
the others in this area and there was plenty of dust and cobwebs about. The old sign
was falling off the awning and he had to lift his light to read the weathered
letters, Cult of Bacchus! He felt a surge of pride and excitement! He felt
strangely at home. He stopped in front of the intricately carved front door and
admired the craftsmanship. Even with all the dirt and dust on it you could still see
the detail in the grape leaves and on the wine bottles that were carved on the door.
The door let out a loud pop as the hinges opened for the first time in many years.
Walking into the house, the dark shapes of covered furniture were easy to make
out and the smell of spices used to infuse the wine were still faintly in the air.
As he lit some mirrored lanterns in the main room the memories of wild parties and
fun times flooded his mind. Looking around the room he saw the Mannequin Chalice
sitting on the huge fireplace's mantle. "I'll have to commission some more of those
here soon", he thought.
"I need to get word to my warriors that the Cult is back in business. I hope
they haven't forgot how to fight," he said with a laugh. He made his way to the
wooden pyre that was stacked to resemble a large bull and poured some oil on it and
set it ablaze! It needs to stay lit for 7 days so the gladiators know to return!
Walking back into the house, he made his way upstairs to his bed chamber. The
large bed was undisturbed and the french doors that led to the deck were shut. He
threw the doors open and walked out onto the patio to watch the fire beacon grow. He
pulled the sheet off of his favorite, plush red chair and sat down. He took a few
more drinks from his flask and pulled out his pipe. Relaxing with his pipe and his
wine he said in loud voice, "That's right Shadowspire, DeGotti is BACK!"
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
And another Guildmember claims the throne!
It has been a while since one of us has claimed the title, but then we haven't
had champions since the last wave of Blue Marble, Attila Keenblade, Lord Exeter,
Azaghal, and Spirewolf graduated. Except for Jager, I guess, but despite numerous
challenges, he never got his shot at the big seat. And yet I did, despite my less
than remarkable record. I wonder how many Duelmasters we have had with a losing
record? (SYP, perhaps?) Not that I'm proud of that fact, mind you. I just can't do
anything about it at the moment, although I'm working on it. I tend to be streaky.
Lose 5, win 4, lose 5 win, 4. So hopefully this was the start of another hot string.
I was confident that I could beat Spork. I even wrote him a nice little
challenging email last turn, but of course it didn't print. Now I have to figure out
which of you I want to challenge. It would be nice to keep this nifty little title.
I'm getting close to being piker #2 from this arena. Darn you, Marco Polo, I was
supposed to be #1! But perhaps I shouldn't have lost all those fights if I wanted
that title?
For now, my aim is to simply keep the title. Keep fighting, Shadowspire!
-- Ziggy Pike, Duelmaster of Shadowspire
SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in
SHADOWSPIRE. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid!
Say good-bye to WARMASTERS, as they are pushed from the coveted top team spot by the
SUMMERBORN stable. It was a tough week for JUNGLELAND, to drop 6 places in the
rankings. Advancing in the rankings was SUMMERBORN who went from last turn's
158-134-17, to this week's record of 163-134-18. Hey everybody, watch out for ROSA
KLEBB, who flew up 25 points in the rankings after mashing BALTAIRE like a melon.
Keep your eye on this gal. And falling like a basher in the top ten was BALTAIRE,
who dropped 21 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with ROSA KLEBB.
JUNEBUG got through to the Duelmaster this turn. No doubt she was more than anxious
to kick ZIGGY PIKE's tail out of the throne! In front of all the crowds, JUNEBUG
took the Duelmaster's crown for hers own. I give the bum two weeks. 4 out of 5
gladiators surveyed protect the body, so try and avoid aiming at that location.
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Did you hear that FURRY FURY was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the
personal hygiene of FURRY FURY's warriors, I'm not surprised! For those of you who
like math, try this one: FURRY FURY + Weapons That go Boom = WARMASTERS + Avoid
City. Well just about everybody wants a piece of ARCHON, who was this week's most
challenged warrior. Was it guts or an overtaxed mental capacity that had SPORK
challenge up 43 points in the rankings to take on VICTOR? To the crowd's chants of
'Bo-zo bo-zo bo-zo', VICTOR was taken out by the lower-ranked SPORK. (Maybe it's
time to think Dark Arena?). In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, PURPLE
WORM went after BRUSSEL SPROUTS, who was higher by 25 points. Well, when the dust
settled, PURPLE WORM beat BRUSSEL SPROUTS.
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! CREIDDY LAD defied all odds and
slew ARENAMASTER in the Dark Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as
ARENAMASTER's meat is notoriously tough. Big deal, so SQUASHAPILLAR got mashed in
the Dark Arena. With his face he was more at home with the trolls than with us.
(Waka waka). Remember: alliances are great, but try and take your ally in the arena
with you and see what happens.
Well, there's the manager of the SHADOWSPIRE giving me the 'cut' sign (or is
that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Well, there goes another Spy
Report. Good luck in next week's fights. Hasta la bye-bye. (Loud choruses of 'Beat
it, ya bum!')-- The Unknown Spymaster
