TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Good evening, Shadowspire.
This is Stephen B. Smith, reporting on behalf of DSPN. You may be asking
yourself, "Why would this very talented and charismatic reporter be visiting the
likes of Shadowspire?" Well, let me cut to the chase, on turn #169, we had a fight
here that just might go down in the annals of Duelmasters or Duel2 lore, which ever
you call it! "What fight was that?" Well, none other than the successful defense of
a bloodfeud, by the legendary Furio 5 of Cult of Bacchus versus Agorix of Warmasters!
This magnificent warrior was out experienced by 29 fe and a staggering 70
recognition points. That's twenty-nine fe and seventy recognition, people! The
battle was a spectacle or utter brilliance! Furio's manager got it right! He knew
what to expect and nailed the counter strategy to a T! Furio, even though he was out
experienced, showed his mettle and was able to take down the much more seasoned
Agorix!
After the fight, Vanek, the manager of Warmasters, was overheard saying that his
current roster, minus a single warrior was a "total disappointment"! I can't argue
with that!
On the other hand, DeGotti, Furio's manager, was delighted with the victory, as
well he should be, but disappointed with the overall turn as bad match ups and a
couple of poor performances lead to a 2-3 for the Cult!
Now, I've been covering the gladiatoral fights for DSPN for the last 6 years or
so, and I can honestly say, this has been the biggest upset I've heard of, ever! I
have a question for the commission though. How... How, can you have the audacity to
award that stellar performance with a measly 10 recognition, and drop Agorix by 19?
I don't want to debate where I think Agorix should have dropped, but 10 points for
such a huge experience gap is down right criminal!
This week could very well be a different story for Furio 5, but let it be known
throughout the lands that, on turn 169, he fought the good fight and overcame his
opponent with style and an uncanny ability that shall forever be remembered!
For DSPN, this has been Stephen B. Smith. God speed to you all!

Lutherius knew this was going to be an unpleasant meeting the moment he received
the summons. Rumor had reached the ludus far before the gladiators had returned from
the arena after the fights. The bloodfeud had gone poorly. No, that was an
understatement. The bloodfeud had been a disaster and Vanek was furious! As Doctore
for the Warmaster stable, it was his responsibility to make sure the gladiators were
all well trained and properly prepared for their bouts. Agorix had seemed supremely
confident and Lutherius had had complete faith in his readiness. With a massive
bloodfeud down challenge that was not only meant to avenge the stable's fallen
warrior, but to make a statement to the Cult of Bacchus stable, failure was not an
option. You have to be realistic about these things after all and this failure was
likely to result in somebody's head rolling. Lutherius swallowed hard and hoped it
wouldn't be his.
Lutherius' mind raced within his skull for the entire walk to Vanek's office.
What would he say? What would he do? He was uncertain, even now as he approached
the door. As the guard outside the door announced his presence, he sucked in a large
sigh and slowly expelled the air. "Here goes nothing," he thought to himself.
As he stepped past the guard, the complete destruction of the office left him
momentarily taken aback. The desk was overturned with large chunks hacked out of it.
Scrolls and sheets of paper lay scattered throughout the room. Broken shards of a
crystal wine carafe and glasses lay glittering on the floor near the base of the far
wall like a handful of precious stones in the light. And in the midst of all the
carnage Vanek sat in his chair with a look completely at odds from the room. A small
smile at the corner of his mouth gave him the appearance of a young boy who knew a
secret that nobody else knew. Lutherius didn't know if the small smile on Vanek's
face or the longsword he had laying across his lap unsettled him more.
"Lutherius, my friend, how are you? A true pleasure to see you again! Please,
take a seat," Vanek stated as he gestured to the only other piece of undamaged
furniture left in the room.
Lutherius' mind screamed for him to run, but he knew there was nowhere to go.
He wouldn't even make it to the front gates before the guards would have captured him
and dragged him back to the office. With a nervous swallow, he moved slowly to the
chair and sat down. Vanek sat across from him in what seemed like deafening silence
for many moments as he unconsciously fiddled with the sword in his lap.
"Did you have a chance to enjoy the games earlier today?" Vanek asked in the
most pleasant voice. Almost as if he had not a care in the world.
"Yes, Dominus." His voice emerged from his throat in more of a croak than he
intended. He cleared his throat and repeated more firmly "Yes, Dominus."
"Good. Then maybe you can shed some light on today's results for me for I find
myself unable to make much sense of them." Vanek said in little more than a whisper.
Lutherius opened his mouth to speak, but found he was unable to immediately form
a response. After a moment, he was able to state "The men fared poorly today."
Vanek chuckled quietly to himself. "I suppose that's one way of describing it.
I would describe it another way, I suppose. Complete and utter embarrassment for
example. Or maybe complete failure. Either seems appropriate. What do you think?"
Vanek's calm demeanor was more nerve racking to Lutherius than if Vanek had
simply yelled in his face as he ranted and raved about the fights. His calm voice
and small smileseemed more ominous in some way. "I'd agree," Lutherius stated as he
leaned back in his chair, "this is definitely a low point for the ludus."
"So it is." Vanek paused briefly as the composure on his face began to slowly
slip. His ears and cheeks began to flush into a brilliant red as he stood up and
began to pace the room, voice beginning to tremble ever so slightly as his tone began
in a whisper and continued to rise. As if on cue with Lutherius' inner thoughts,
Vanek erupted. "I was forced to sit in shame as all of Shadowspire witnessed that
debacle! As all the guests in the private box shot glances my way as they whispered
their jokes and comments under their breath thinking I wouldn't notice!! This is an
outrage and it is the last time I will suffer it! This will never happen again or
somebody's head will sit upon a spike, so help me! NEVER AGAIN!" Vanek screamed as
he took another massive chop at the desk with the sword and cleanly lopped a table
leg off. "Here is how we will proceed," he continued in his calm voice once again.
"Agorix will re-challenge Furio again. If he fails I will send him to the Dark Arena
and I will have the flesh stripped from your bones as I have you hung from the outer
walls. One way or the other I will have blood. It will either be Furio's sprayed
across the sand or whoever fails me again. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Dominus, very clear."
"Good. I want all the men prepped and ready, not just Agorix. I may call upon
any one of them in the upcoming turns and I will not be disappointed again. As
incentive, I want you to notify the men that the one that can remove Furio's head
from his shoulders will be granted the same privileges as if they had attained the
Duelmaster throne. I want that little bastard dead!"
"I'll inform the men, sir. They will be ready and won't fail you again,"
Lutherius said.
"Good. Now get the f@$! out of my office and get those worthless slugs prepped
for the next fights!" yelled Vanek as he threw the sword against the wall with a loud
clatter.
As Lutherius stood and left the office, he sighed an inner sigh of relief.
Truth be told, he hadn't anticipated leaving that office alive when he first stepped
into it. He had just one final chance to correct the situation or he had no doubts
that his own head would be on a spike. No pressure, he thought to himself as he
strode towards the barracks to get the men ready. It's do or die time now. The only
question was who'd be the unfortunate corpse?
SPY REPORT
Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well
fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for SHADOWSPIRE. Too bad, DRAGONBANE GUILD,
but DARQUE AGES was just too good to be stopped. I don't wanna hurt anybody's
feelings or anything, but PHILANTHROPISTS really goofed with their 0-0-0. 7TH
SANCTUM like really fought hard to move up to 8th from 14th. Way to go! One team
deserves special mention 'cause they moved up 2 after going 4-1-0. Keep it up,
DARQUE AGES! MVP award for GARBAGE TRUCK? ROGUES DEN's proud of it after beating
DESTROYER OF WORLDS and getting 20 points. Talk about yer major upsets! SYFTAR
TRAFF's match with HOMONCULOUS cost him a loss of 19 points! Like DARK ARENA's DARK
CHAMPION is sweating since he got Dark Arena Challenged by Duelmaster FAILED DOG
TRICK! Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think FAILED DOG TRICK
should let DARK CHAMPION be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. I
hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours sleep. They want
photogenic fighters for PR photos.
So just why would someone becomes a warrior anyway? It can't be for these
really neat Spyreports can it? The warriors of FURRY FURY must be getting lonely.
They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something that I don't? I don't
know what WARMASTERS' been doing. They certainly haven't been accepting many fights
from FURRY FURY, that's fer sher. Like, is EDNA MILLAY popular, or what? She was
challenged the most in all of SHADOWSPIRE! She's got a 14-23-0, is that good? I'm
not so sure GLABRIO knew all the facts when he challenged GREMLIN STEW of OTTO'S
DINER. I saw GLABRIO stumbling and dribbling at The Warty Toad last week... GLABRIO
lost to GREMLIN STEW, but he got 4 points. GREMLIN STEW won, and got 3 points. I
don't get it. People were asking me did TREMERUS REALLY challenge HENRY MILLER?
(all right, maybe they didn't, but it sounded good!) It wasn't a spectacular fight,
or anything, but HENRY MILLER wants me to write about it since he won victory over
TREMERUS. Satisfied?
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? Like, who is this guy??? FAILED DOG TRICK gets sent to the Dark Arena,
battles DARK CHAMPION, and returns to tell of it!!! I bet FURRY FURY manager is
surprised! It was so gross when NIGHTLEAF of ROGUES DEN killed ELVIS PARSLEY. They
should start making warriors use safer weapons, or more shields, or something...
AGORIX really fought hard against FURIO 5. That'll teach CULT OF BACCHUS not to go
and kill any of WARMASTERS' guys again, huh! Fight, fight, fight. Is that all you
guys can do?
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I gotta leave. SHADOWSPIRE is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much!
Its been really albendranius! Later, guys-- Debby Tonte

Otto's Diner bids farewell to our long-time warrior and thorn in the side of
Shadowspire, Gremlin Stew: 15(2)-21(2)-10-7-21(1)-4-11 TP, trem end, good dmg, adex
parry. 36-14-0 record and a record eight straight turns as duelmaster. Turns out he
was running three out of four favorites for most of his career. Breathe easy,
Shadowspire, your long nightmare is over!
Al Zheimer -- You, sir, are off my challenge list. You couldn't even teach me 1
lousy skill? Maybe, my French isn't as good as I thought it was? -- Grimstones
Sabel -- I was just on the receiving end of a couple QS whacks last turn, myself! --
Grimstones
Whiplash -- Usually, I tend not to do so well vs your style, on a random. Glad I was
able to complete the job! -- Adissa

Santa Claus -- Not very jolly, if you ask me. A tad aggressive, really. *sigh* We
don't have many options for Bloodfeuding, but of course we'll do our best. Prepare
yourself. -- Kid Arcane
Bad Borscht -- Not bad for a random matchup. Thanks for the skills. -- Blue Nova
Gorshok -- Gotta know when to zig and when to zag. I miscalculated that one. --

Qahrie -- You're just trying too hard. Did my natural beauty befuddle you? I get a
lot of that. -- Cassiopeia
Verres -- If you lost your first fight against another noob like me, you're doomed.
(No offense intended.) -- Monoceros
Shadowspire -- Please welcome our latest recruit/replacement: Caelum. You'll have
to speak up; he's a little bit deaf. -- Kid Arcane
7th Sanctum -- It's good for morale when there's another team below us in the career
win/loss standings. Keep up the good work! -- Kid Arcane
Larkin -- The writing golem was overheated, or was that you? Exactly how does that
relationship work? -- Kid Arcane
It's complicated. At least *I* can sweat.
