Notes from the arena champ.
Rummer smiled over at her from his director's chair. Distractedly, she waved the
makeup assistant off and frowned at him. The daguerreotypist looked on expectantly
with equipment at the ready.
"You got this, Lisichka," Rummer assured her. "Nice and easy. Remember, this
has to convey all the dignity of the office of Duelmaster, the mighty heritage of
Shadowspire, and the gravitas of Pray The God's first ascension to the Throne. So
don't screw this up. Ok, on me in three... two... one, action!" Rummer barked.
"All right," Lisichka drawled. "Any of you suck holes wanna come up here and
knock me off?"
"Cut!!" Rummer was suddenly beet red. "Stick to the damn script! Now again!
Three... two... one, action!"
She tilted her head, nodded and raised one eyebrow. "Allo. My name is Lisichka.
You killed my teammate. Prepare to d-"
"CUT!!!" Rummer looked apoplectic. "No more ad libs, and I mean it!"
"Anyone want a peanut?" she asked, looking around at the crew.
"Action!"
Lisichka stared into the mirror. As if talking to herself, she began muttering.
"One bloodfeud and that's it," she said. "Don't be rude, kill Hakeem," she continued,
pausing to waggle a finger at herself in the mirror. "But do it quickly. Say
goodnight, and go home." She paused, looking down thoughtfully. Taking a deep
breath, which she let out forcefully, she turned to the other mirror. "You see, this
is a moral test of one's self. Whether or not you can maintain loyalty to your
teammates. Because being loyal is very important. So, you're going to go out there,
kill Hakeem, say 'I've had a very lovely fight', walk off the sands, get in the coach,
go home and rub one out. And that's all you gonna do!"
"CUT!" Rummer called, beaming. "Brilliant!"
SPY REPORT
Phineas is off this cycle as he travels to report on the upcoming Dead Tournament.
Morbid stuff that! So, until his return, you get me, Intern Abe for all your spy
reporting needs. I do not have the experience of that penny-pinching media mogul. I
am not as tall or wealthy as Phineas, nor do I have what others would consider good
hygiene. But I do have . . . a very short attention span because I forgot where I was
going with this. Nevermind! Lets just get to the news for Shadowspire!
We have a new top dog in town and his name is Stray Cat. Oh, what is that? He
prefers to be called Top Cat rather than top dog? Well, Stray, you can speak to the
Gladiatorial Copyright Office about that request. Until then, you're the top dog! JE
and Errata are proud of their newest Duelmaster, I assume. I never actually asked a
manager if they are proud of their warrior's accomplishments. I just assume success
brings pride. JE, are you proud of your warrior? The opposite of pride is humility,
and it looks as Lishchka, our former Duelmaster, ate a whole slice of humble pie this
turn. Stray Cat and Lishchka fought bravely for 2 turns, but in the end, we crown a
new Duelmaster.
Apart from a very busy Dark Arena this cycle, the deaths were relatively few. Swabbin
Steve has scrubbed his last poop deck for Shanghaied as he was executed by Heatwave.
Steve leaves behind a very sad mop and bucket. Also making a brief and final
appearance on Shadowspire's sands we have Neonicotinoid from The Monsantis. I have no
idea what a neonicotinioid is, but I have the sneaking suspicion I am going to need a
pipe and an alibi before the night ends. The other 8 deaths came via our Dark Arena.
Most were new, untested recruits, but Bone Munchers and Search the Sky sent a few
seasoned Initiates to try their luck Black Orc and Shewish Giant.
And here comes the Ad Nauseam Bit of Info for the Week, which is Big Lake Outcasts is
the most avoided team, while Cult of Bacchus was the busiest avoiding them. We have
narrowed it down to Big Lake Outcast's body odor or their constant down challenges as
the reason for all these avoids, but the jury is still out. And, the jury is scared.
A bit smelly from hanging around the Big Lake Outcasts' guild, but certainly
trembling. Mykul of The Mongoloids II was the most challenged warrior this turn.
Suicide Seed was unlucky enough to get the challenge through to Mykul. Mykul beat
Suicide Seed in 1 minute.
In the "Dude, What's Up with That?!" category this week we find Hateful Desire of Big
Lake Outcasts going down 19 points to fight Mt. Dew: Code Red of Scorpio Likes:. Big
Lake Outcasts also sent Dave Lebies down 11 points to face The Empress Wu of Darque
Ages. No surprises in these fights as the higher ranked warriors won. White
Lightning of Inebriation also sought to pick the low handing fruit by challenging down
9 to Pheare of Doom Brigade. Though Philthy Phil's math skills come into question as
we find Sailor Jeffry challenging up 25 points to Peeking Duck of Otto's Diner. Did
you know that was a 25 point upswing and not down?
Looking at the movers and shakers this turn in the team rankings finds Shanghaied
pushed out the number 1 spot by Cult of Bacchus. The Cult's 2 kills over the past 3
turns are good enough to beat out Inebriation for the top spot. Search the Sky and
Scorpio Likes: share the biggest leap award for the turn. Both teams rose 10 spots
with Search the Sky enjoying a 3-2-0 turn, while Scorpio sophomore turn brings a 3-1-0
for a jump to 16th in the ranks. Some Kinda Hate dropped 9 spots from 2nd down to
11th. However, the biggest drop of the turn belongs to Darque Ages. Their 1-4-0
cause them to plummet 10 spots to 13th.
Hopefully, I will still have a job come next cycle. Sidara, the reporter over in
Seam, keeps telling me about the end of the cosmos as we know it. She keeps spouting
off some non-sense about blood, moons, and bear cubs. It is all quite confusing for
my young mind. Oh well, if the worlds still exist next turn, I'll see you then!
