DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Good day duelers! It is I, your Duelmaster, Chartered Recognition Leader and
Weekly favorite, Slaycia. I grace you all again, as predicted.
Powder Monkey -- I thoroughly enjoyed our last fight, and so did the fans! I
carved you up with my scimitar despite all of your efforts to hide your shortcomings
by covering yourself in that plate armor!
By the looks of things just below me in the CC's, my challenges are looking
pretty slim, One who Prays and two Shanghaied who I just fought back-to-back. Maybe
if Plug In Car looked up in the rankings to make a challenge, he'd be in the CC's, but
that is a huge "if"!
I know it's the Holiday Season and all, but we are about to be down to 12 teams
if Dragonbane and Monsantis don't fight this turn! This is very disappointing as
Shadowspire is the premiere Non-Tourney arena! So get out and recruit your friends,
people!

SPY REPORT
Good afternoon! Arena day has arrived and you look excited to be here. Well,
most of you look excited to be here. For some of you, it is probably best if I do not
comment on how you look. You know, my mother said, "If you don't have anything nice
to say, it is best to be quiet." Of course, I have never followed that advice! Okay,
let's get to the fights before I get into trouble!
Slaycia made a pretty bold boast last turn. She said she intended to keep the
throne until she graduated. So, we have to take a look and see if she was just puffed
up a bit or prophetic. Slaycia faced Powder Monkey in a random match up for the
Duelmaster's throne. Annnd... we have a new Duelmaster! Congrats to Powder Monkey,
who also received his invitation to the Isle of the Eye. It will be a short reign,
but a reign nonetheless. Slaycia remains in the Challenger Champions, so perhaps we
will see a rematch next turn. Powder Monkey is part of the Shanghaied guild, and he is
managed by Blackhart.
The most avoided team was Kill Em All, and they were most avoided by Cult of
Bacchus. The most challenged warrior for the turn was Fear of Uyphy Asylum. He was
challenged by a much higher Choke of Kill Em All. No shocker in the outcome as 30+
fight experience USUALLY beats 5 fight experience. I say usually, but we will talk
about that more later.
There is some movement in the 3 Turn Rankings. Kill Em All remained on top with
a 10-5-1 record. Otto's Diner moved into 2nd place from 3rd after posting a 3-1-1
turn. Uyphy Asylum lept into the to 5, going from 7th to 3rd. Cult of Bacchus kept
steady at 4th despite losing the throne. And although they won the Duelmaster's
throne, Shanghaied dropped from 2nd to 5th. Monster Manual's 4-spot drop was the
biggest of the turn, and the aforementioned Uyphy Asylum's 4-rank climb was the best.
Now onto the turn's deaths! It was a bloody turn as many teams continue to use
the Dark Arena. Of the 9 deaths, 7 of them came via the Dark Arena with many teams,
such as Darque Ages, From the Left, and Pray the Gods, sending multiple warriors. The
two regular deaths were noteworthy for various reasons. War Machine makes their
return to the sands and back on the dead list. Mensk matched up with Grease Trap of
Otto's Diner. All the artery-clogging goodness was too much for Mensk and he died.
The other death was a total mismatch between Orin Scrivello (8-7-0, 42) and Groucho
Serf (1-0-1, 33). Everyone had this one written off as an easy win for Orin and no
one was paying much attention. At least, no one was paying attention until Groucho
killed Orin. Groucho doesn't appear to be playing well with others. He emerged,
somewhat angry, from the Dark Arena last week after killing Black Orc. It appears the
rage hasn't yet subsided!
I'll close by congratulating our two newest Lord Protectors from Shadowspire.
Powder Monkey and Two-Ton Timmons are off to the Isle and immortality. Congrats to
them and their manager, Blackhart, on reaching this milestone.
Time for me to shove off for brighter pastures. This place has "shadow" in the
name, so brighter pastures could be virtually anywhere! Oh, well, I'll see you guys
and gals next turn, or better yet, you get the privilege of seeing me!
