TEAM SPOTLIGHT
"Why is it such a weird stage name?" he asked the diminutive manager sitting
across from him. Otto's Diner was not busy at the moment, but it would not be long
before the lunch crowd rushed in from the arena.
Darque let out a deep breath and gathered his thoughts. "Well, I don't exactly
know how to say this. I never expected you to make it out of the Dark Arena, so I
didn't bother to put much effort into your stage name."
Groucho Serf pondered those words for a moment. "Wait, so you expected me to die
in there? Why would you even hire me if you were only going to send me to die?"
"First, I didn't hire you. I bought you from the prison in Chimlevtal. Second,
I didn't buy you with the intent of sending you to die, but after watching you on the
practice field... Well, let's just say I didn't really think gladiatorial combat was
your calling in life." Darque sipped from his wine glass as he waited for the
information to sink into Norket's head. Norket Sal was his real name, but few people
use their real names in the games. Darque had a list of pre-approved names his
warriors could use when they registered to fight. But, as with Norket, he never
thought the lout would make it through the Dark Arena, so he slapped a throw-away
moniker on him.
The wheels were turning slowly, but they eventually reached their destination.
Groucho, or Norket, looked over at Darque with understanding and even a deflated hope.
"So, I'm stuck with this dumb name forever?"
"Lucky for you, the Commission is having a name change event. You can choose a
new stage name from this list." Darque slid a small scroll over to the gladiator.
Norket opened it and nodded as his head bobbed from line to line. He did this for
quite a while until Darque had his own revelation. "You can't read can you?"
"Nope, not at all. How about this one, I like the way it looks and I think I can
learn to scribble it," Norket pointed to a name near the top of the scroll--DANTE.
Darque took note of the name, nodded, and rolled up the scroll. The meeting was now
finished.
"I have used that name several times before," the half-demon mentioned as they
were leaving Otto's Diner. "Others have selected it and all of them have died in the
arena. I think it is cursed." Norket bit his bottom lip and nodded his head at the
news. As they reached the door of the diner, he said, "I'll take my chances. After
all, you sent many warriors before me to the Dark Arena and they didn't come back. I
did. Maybe I'm... uhh, what's the opposite of cursed?"
"Blissfully ignorant," Darque said as they exited.

Sorry Kill Em All, about last turn, but brevity is the soul of wit. Anyways, yes
I'm taking the copout way by Bfing Kaze Again. If anyone cares, this is what I look
like: 9-14-9-17-17-5-13 TP. Good/normal, ex in init, att, ae in defense, master in
parry. Unsure about faves, as newsletter from last turn isn't here, and Philthy isn't
waiting amy longer!

SPY REPORT
Welcome to Shadowspire, duel fans! It is your mostest favoritest spy reporter,
Huard DePriest, here to bring you all the great arena action! What can I say about
this turn except, "WOW!" We had a doozy for turn 292. Revenge, death, more revenge,
more death, tacos, and Duelmaster's column! It was amazing! Let's not waste any more
time with the build up and jump right into this turn's action!
Barstool Brad received his invitation to the Isle last turn, so his reign was
coming to an end this turn. He was still our reigning champ and deserves all the
attention the position affords. He bloodfeuded Kamikaze again this turn. BB
apparently did not want to leave any loose ends in Shadowspire before his departure.
He proceeds to kill Kamikaze in a 4 minute fight. This would normally open the door
for more feuds, but since Lord Protector Barstool Brad is off to the Isle, that door
is effectively slammed shut. With BB on the move, the throne was vacant and waiting
for a new occupant. The title match came down to a fight between another newly minted
Lord Protector, Sphinx, and arena veteran Moduin. It was a brief one, duel fans!
Moduin came out on top in a quick 1 minute match. Congrats to our new Duelmaster
Moduin from the Darque Ages guild, who is managed by Master Darque.
We have a number of warriors leaving for the Isle of the Eye. Here is a quick
Duel-Fact for you: 3 out of 4 recent graduates have held the Duelmaster's title in
Shadowspire! Congrats to each of the new Lord Protectors: Barstool Brad of
Inebriation, Sir Racha of Otto's Diner, and Sphinx of Monster Manual fought their last
bouts this turn. Local drunkard, Three Sheets, got his invite this turn and will have
his final fight next turn.
The most avoided team for turn 292 is Kill Em All. Avoiding them the most we
have War Machine! The most challenged warrior for the turn is Silpa from Pray the
Gods. All those suitors, but it was priority challenge, a bloodfeud more
specifically, that got through from Dante of Darque Ages. Dante moved quickly and the
match was a 1 minute, one-sided bout in favor of the aggressor. I could not care any
less about down challenges in the arena, but Phineas insists that I report upon them.
There were a lot. There, I've done my due diligence as a reporter!
In the death department, we have a few departures to report. Is there really a
death department? If so, that is pretty morbid. I thought the idea of an arena with
people stabbing, bashing, and slashing one another was for family entertainment!
Anyway, it looks like we had 6 deaths this turn. Three of them were in the Dark Arena
as Darque Ages, Dyslexic Music, and Scorpio Likes: sent some hapless warriors to fight
by torchlight. The other 3 deaths are what makes the arena interesting. We have
already talked about the first one, but it bears mentioning again. Our departing Lord
Protector Barstool Brad killed Kamikaze in a bloodfeud match. The golems did not
bother to list that one in the newsletter dead list, but it happened! The second
death came when Choke bloodfeuded Curtis Turner of War Machine. Choke killed Curtis
and continues the long line of death and revenge between these two teams. The last
death was a random match up between Brackish and Child Smasher. I'm not sure if
Brackish is considered a child, but Child Smasher lived up to his name and squashed
him. Condolences to the dead, and good luck next turn if you choose to seek revenge
for your fallen.
Shanghaied takes over the top spot, moving up from 2nd place. From the Left made
a huge climb from 8th into 2nd. Cult of Bacchus and Big Lake Solution had small gains
to take over 3rd and 4th, respectively. In a much larger jump in the ranks,
Inebriation goes from 11th to 5th. Our former number 1 team, Monster Manual,
plummeted from the top spot to 8th. I want to say welcome back to Scorpio, who
returns to us after a lengthy break. Also, we welcome Dyslexic Music to the arena.

Alright, time for me to get out of here. Never underestimate the power of a
balanced sword in the arena, or a balanced diet. I prefer a mace, so not sure how
that translates into smashing things. Whatever, I will see you next turn. Can Moduin

The prize for this most recent tournament was a Clone / Twin prize:
One potion, which when applied on any Natural Warrior, dead or alive, which will
either make a Clone or Twin of that warrior at birth. A clone is one exact copy of
the warrior; a Twin may be a different style and will be rolled ten times and the best
shall be chosen. The new warrior may be added to any team. A Natural Warrior is
defined as a warrior that was not created with the use or a prize, nor has ever had a
prize used on it at any time in the past. Warriors may be cloned only once by their
own manager, and once by another. The owner of the warrior that is cloned or twinned
must give permission. Please remember, you must use all prizes within six months of
the tourney when they were won.
