I am starting a new feature today called TEAM IN THE SPOTLIGHT. I am beginning to
personally interview managers in Shadowspire to learn more about them and their
dueling careers, as well as their team here in Shadowspire. There is no better place
to start than the top, so I have begun this new series with CULT OF BACCHUS, who are
managed by DeGotti. The CULT is our current top-ranked career team, as well as one of
the oldest teams in Shadowspire.
[SYP] Tell us a little about your overall dueling career. When did you start?
"I started very early on, Turn 3 of DM#4. I believe it was August or September of
1984. I had teams that started turn #1 in DM #8, 38, 46, 81 and 20 when it became the
"other" no-tourney arena."
[SYP] How active are you currently?
"I am only active in Shadowspire."
[SYP] What caused you to join the fun in Shadowspire?
"I don't participate in tourneys and wanted the old school feel of DM."
[SYP] What do you currently enjoy about the arena?
"I enjoy the competition and the challenge of running average or below average
warriors to graduation. I also enjoy the banter between managers in the PA's, although
it has been a little on the lite side the past 20-30 turns. I also like the live spy
report, the SYP and the warrior tracking that Visionist does for the arena."
[SYP] What is your favorite accomplishment you have achieved in this arena?
"I completed the round robin in the fewest turns. I also have the statistically best
PL graduate from Shadowspire. I almost overcame an 11 win head start to beat Otto in
the race to 600 wins."

CULT OF BACCHUS did indeed begin on turn 1 of Shadowspire as a founding team in the
arena. They currently have the lowest team number and one of the highest win totals.
Statistically, they have the highest win percentage over the course of a long career,
which is impressive with over 600 wins.
By the numbers, CULT OF BACCHUS has enjoyed quite a few more accomplishments than
DeGotti mentions in the interview.

Hail SHADOWSPIRE! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for
your deeds. It seems the training can make the difference, as WICKED MARTYRS is
pushed out of top team by CULT OF BACCHUS, who came from 5th with a 4-1-0 this turn.
Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for WICKED
MARTYRS, whose 1-3-0 this turn dropped them by 8 into 9th. THE COMMODORES stable has
parlayed this turn's 4-1-0 into a 8 space move up the rankings. This brings them up
to 2nd place. Good work, guys! The OTTO'S DINER guild has had a 4-1-1 turn and
deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can
lead. BENJAMIN has lost to THE LEPER'S HAND, falling 24 points, while helping make
WICKED MARTYRS a 1-3-0 turn. The attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed,
and MUTANT CAMEL remains SHADOWSPIRE's top warrior for another turn. Can someone
confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at
The Swinging Aardvark until they win. Maybe?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. I also notice that the KILL 'EM ALL stable
was the most avoided team this turn. Come on SHADOWSPIRE, what are you afraid of?
And avoiding KILL 'EM ALL more than any other team we find PRAY THE GODS.
SHADOWSPIRE, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? The most
challenged warrior this turn was FROM THE LEFT's warrior POETRY SLAM. More fighters
challenged him than challenged the Duelmaster! In a fit of brilliance or of
stupidity (hard to say sometimes), RUTU PARNA challenged AZABELLE today, facing a 33
difference in recognition. And though RUTU PARNA lost to AZABELLE, the valiant
attempt earned her 1 worth of recognition. Foolhardiness can sometimes pay. Tsk,
tsk, tsk. TOMAHAWK, does your manager know you're challenging down 18 points to
fight PRINCESS HOYT from BIG LAKE SOLUTION? I thought challenges were for warriors,
not cowards looking for easy wins. TOMAHAWK defeated PRINCESS HOYT, is nothing
sacred? In a brave attempt, GRAY GOOSE from INEBRIATION challenged up 24 points to
fight PESTO PETE from the OTTO'S DINER stable. GRAY GOOSE perhaps got its just
desserts, seeing as it subdued PESTO PETE and ended up with 63 recognition points.
SILPA of PRAY THE GODS had better have a good reason for challenging down 11 points
in a challenge which she was slain. I thought SILPA showed great skill and promise
when she was killed by STARVING ARTIST. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? A farewell moment, if you please, POITIERS of DARQUE AGES has been
sent to the Dark Arena, and was carried out on his shield. Hearty mugs of ale were
raised in SHADOWSPIRE today as XENOPHOBE was bid farewell to a 7-3-0 warrior, with
GLORYHOUND of WAR MACHINE standing silent and pensive. SILPA has departed
SHADOWSPIRE, leaving PRAY THE GODS without their 9-7-1 warrior. Question, just what
was hers team doing at the taverns last night? BIG LAKE SOLUTION has lost SPECIAL
PURPOSE to the arena in the sky, but they don't seem to be worried. What do you
expect from 6-12-1? Will OTTO'S DINER get away with PESTO PETE having killed MIKE
VADNER of OHS ALUMNI? One more turn, and the bloodfeud's over, at least officially.
A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or hide when the
fight is over. Consider well.
