TEAM SPOTLIGHT
So, you wanna write like Den, huh?
Last turn you were tricked into believing that you can all be witty and clever; well
it just is not that easy. Maybe there are 10 simple steps, but maybe there is more,
so much more. In my over 30 years of managing teams and authoring some of the game's
most interesting personal ads and spotlights I have needed certainly more than 10
simple little steps. It is not as simple as what you read last week, you see,
experiences will teach you much. My stuff is so wonderful that I guess even the good
folks at Batman are evidently using my missives to sell interesting movies, who knew?
I don't ask for any royalties, I just hope that the people are entertained, for that
is what we are here for. Over the years I have been impacted by many managers and
their unique styles of writing, please let me share a few with you today.
The E.F. Hutton Style -- Managers that use this style for their correspondence don't
say much, pretty quiet dudes all-in-all. They watch, they learn, they don't ask
questions. We don't see many PA's from this group, but when we do see one we all stop
what we are doing and take note, we sit on the edge of our seats waiting to see what
they are going to tell us. An example of this style is Otto, or Ah Toe as he likes to
be called. Oh yea, Ah Toe still gets his laundry done by his mom and his toes are
really huge!
The White Knight -- This weirdo's need to be relevant in the game drives everything he
does, everything! He so badly wants all other managers to like and recognize him that
he even creates drama in order to look like the champion. This sad little freak
openly lies in the PA's about personal attacks and will actually intentionally enter
the incorrect warrior styles into TB in order to create the drama that he alone hopes
he can solve. Someday he will be gone, and at some point someone will recognize the
void that is left and wonder what used to be there. There is not much to learn from
little stick, but I guess we can learn what not to do.
The Word Salad -- Sometimes you just have to ramble and hope that something comes out,
and sometimes it actually works out. This guy shows up every week, but we learned
that quantity does not always match quality, but at least he plays the game. We know
that Bashur means well, he just cannot explain it in complete sentences.
The Crybaby -- This guy will drive you crazy with all his whining and complaining. He
will selectively pick topics and then cry about them turn after turn. Nobody really
likes this guy, he was probably the last picked at recess and that is what drives his
PA's in the game, thinking that incessant wailing will get him his way. Yeah, Gentile
Ben can teach us all a few things about low self-esteem.
The Hypocrite -- This lowlife does not understand how to practice what you preach.
While portraying himself as this great advocate for all things great and wonderful in
Alastari he is pretty much a sad hypocrite. This guy is the only person ever to grab
someone at a F2F and scream to the entire room a profane comment. Hypocrites are
unfortunate people, but so much to learn from their skill and we thank the Consortium
for teaching us how to devalue relationships.
The Back-Patter -- The degenerate has such a strong need to excel and be welcomed at
the mega-manager's table at a F2F that it drives everything he does. He cannot
understand why he is not part of that elite club and even though he will never
succeed, he keeps on sucking until he actually feels he has succeeded. He does not
spend much time writing PA's in the arena as it would only bring attention to his
arena teams, which are nearly as bad as his tourney teams. He is at least intelligent
enough to understand that out of sight and out of mind is a good management strategy,
he just hopes nobody notices his team ranked on page two. Instead of getting noticed
in the PA's he writes long drawn out tourney recaps on the forums where he highlights
the following; 1) his career and how important he believes he is, 2) sad little self-
fulfilling references noting his travel schedule, 3) lists some warriors he "just
threw in" trying to get us to believe they are his average guys when they are probably
the best he has, 4) several quotes from history's greatest literal architects that he
finds in his set of encyclopedias, yeah this guy actually still has a set of
encyclopedias that have great sentimental value to him, they are blue in color, 5)
several kiss-ups to the mega mangers in hopes they will stop and ask him about his
amazing travels at the next F2F, 6) several facts twisted to make it look like he
knows what he is doing, and of course he finishes with 7) a haiku because anyone can
write a haiku. Yeah, we all recognize the talent of Vlad here and how he has taught
the rest of us to write poetry.
The Profane -- We learned in the Highlander that there could be only one. This dude
just throws caution to the wind and sends the granddaddy of all profane words in a PA
and soils our good newsletter with it. Yes, even I can learn from Deeders.
You see kiddies, where you see my style as brilliant and unmatched, where would I be
without learning so much from my peers over the years? Who knows, but I am so
fortunate to spend my time with such wonderful managers. I look forward to how the
next few years will shape our lives. Remember little fellas, write early and often,
you will only be judged by how we interpret it.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, well, well, look at little old me finally bringing some class to the throne.
After some of the meatheads that have held this title, I almost feel like the leper
with the most fingers sitting up here all my myself. There are some interesting
challenge opportunities for me, but little Hotter Pocket will get the shot and we'll
see how hot she actually is. My guess is that her pocket will be filled with losses
after the fight.
I also want to brag a little about how young I am and how quickly I shot to the top.
I guess many of you need to pad your records with tourney experience and when you
can't, we see how the real warriors are and where the real talent is. I hate to just
sit here and snarl at you, but that is how I received my name after all.
See you next week,
Imtep Snarljaw
SPY REPORT
Welcome back to Shadowspire! This foul weather has me in a rather foul mood. I
should probably say fouler mood. Eh, It is good to see you bums back in the arena. I
do hope most of you know that I use bums in the most endearing way possible. I mean,
endearing to me, as in I think you're a bunch of bums and I only talk to you because I
am paid to do so! Hey, hey, chins up! Go get a few more arena cakes and eat through
your disappointments. That is how I cope! You aren't here to listen to me question
your life choices, but you are here for . . . eh, I'm going to do this report whether
you are here or not, so let's skip the nonsense!
Imtep Snarljaw defended the throne this turn against the newly minted Lord Protector
Slack Babbath. You would think the wealth of information available to new LPs
including all the updated training regimens would give Slack a leg up on the
competition. Well, like with most of your decisions, you'd be wrong! Imtep
challenged Slack and it only lasted a minute. My golem says it was pretty one-sided
too. Imtep holds the throne for another turn. He is managed by Den.
The most avoided team is Big Lake Solution. They were mostly avoided by Darque Ages.
They seem to be getting mouthy in the personal ads too, so maybe this will turn into
something good. Or, maybe you all will continue to disappoint me. Yeah, I thought
so! Leeroy Jenkins was this turn's most challenged warrior. He randomly matched up
with Cotton Mouth. These two have met before and if my records are right, Cotton
Mouth is in the lead. Cotton Mouth won again in a 5-minute fight. Not a ton of
deaths this turn, but it looks like Drake and his new team lost 2 on their inaugural
turn. Uhm, welcome back and sorry, I guess. Shanghaied and Dyslexic Music, is this
how we treat new teams? Arena regular Rain Drop also exits the arena and life with an
8-8 record as Terminator adds the 3rd kill to his record.
Clan Longbeard takes over the top team from 4th place. Big Lake Solution slips into
2nd. Literate Loons makes a big leap in the rankings moving up 5 spots to 3rd.
Shanghaied had an equally good gain to move from 9th to 4th. Kill 'Em All slips by 2
and finishes out our top 5. Literate Loons and Shanghaied share the glory for the
biggest gain, while Pray the Gods gets the notoriety of dropping the most. They fell
from 2nd place to 10th. Welcome to Drake and his team Memory. We would also like to
welcome back Mordraith and his Some Kinda Hate guild.
Alright bums (see above), get ready for the next turn! Imtep is still on the throne
and without an invite, he gets to defend it and vie for a 3rd consecutive title.
There are lots of Challenger Champions that have an opportunity to take their shot at
greatness, but if arena history has shown us anything, I'd wager the Duelmaster will
not even be the most challenged warrior next turn. Come back next turn, or don't, I
still get paid to pontificate!

Darque -- I understand that most of your experience is in those first rate Andorian
arenas, but in DM-33, we call that a down challenge. I feel no shame for looking down
in the rankings to challenge a warrior. Really, I feel no shame. Honestly, I feel
nothing for you and yours, but that is another post in another arena. -- Weirdo
Drake -- Well met. My warriors are looking forward to crossing blades with yours in
fair and honorable combat. -- Weirdo
Tomahawk hit on head during battle. Tomahawk have terrible vision. Tomahawk see
oozing image of Darque's torso in pool of flesh. Tomahawk think Darque is spineless.
Ozarks -- Good challenge! May we both match with an AB this turn! -- Rainbow Byte
Rasam -- Seems a bit of a let down to throw that many crits and end up losing. Don't
get me wrong, I'm happy I won, but I can recognize how that would be frustrating. --
Poison IV
All -- Another promising new recruit of Clan Longbeard is killed, Zachariah ST 11-5-
15-17-9-12-15. -- Visionist
Ritesh -- Tell your guild mates what happens when you kill a Longbeard. -- Qwinn
Helen Blade -- I was having a bad day, sorry I took it out on you. -- Walken
Brian Lock -- Guess I wasn't smart enough to fall over from exhaustion. -- Ghost of
Zachariah
Girly Deckhand -- Damnit I thought I had you! -- Ulrich
Convicted Thief -- You sure do teach well. Thanks! -- Xobias
All -- The Shadowspire Hall of Fame and Arena Archives will be updated after turn 360.
-- Visionist
Congrats to Slack Babbath on your invite to the Isle. -- Clan Longbeard
Den -- I put my pants on just like you, one leg at a time. Except, once my pants are
on, I run mediocre warriors to winning records! Right now I "gotti" a fever and the
only "cure" is more cowbell! Never question what I "gotti" because you will never
"getti" it! -- DeGotti
Drake -- Once you remember where you left your warriors, welcome to the best non-
tourney arena in the land! -- DeGotti
BlackHart -- Kind of sucks when some young team comes in and takes the Top Chartered
spot and free fight away, doesn't it? -- DeGotti
I'm not sure I trust the spotlight formula, but here goes:
A Little Dense -- I wondered about your breath until I heard your mom was still
feeding you like that Game Of Thrones kid. Lord knows what else you two have going on.
Anywho, Disvenya boned Bicurious Aggression like she owned him. This is my shocked
face. And I'm still wayyyyy above you in the rankings. Like usual. Hey, speaking of
boned, is your Uncle Toof still under that restraining order? On my worst day I am
two times the manager that you are on your best day. So you're basically a half man,
like John Bobbit. I am confident I am the greatest manager that ever lived and I will
soon be on top of the arena rankings. -- Vlad, Manager of Pray The Gods and Giver of
Teabags
Hey!.... It worked! Thanks, anonymous spotlight writer!
Longbeards -- "Another promising member of the Longbeards cut down in his prime."
Yeah, you're right. At 1-1, he was probably as good as he was gonna get under your
management. I used Agrippa on the Xippa! Keep them 4 skill turns coming for me! --
Ritesh
Wrothgar -- Thanks! -- Ridwan
Darque -- My guess is that you feel shame when you look into the mirror and find
yourself staring into the eyes of an idiot. -- Den
Bouvines -- Who are you again? Hard to see you all the way down there. -- Imtep
Snarljaw
Blackheart -- Be careful that I don't take notice of you and wreck your record even
more. Also, try scrubbing harder and maybe that heart can get clean. -- Den
Drake -- If you want to be successful always challenge Dyslexic Music and Pray the
Gods, they give it up really easily, something they learned from their sisters. If
you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out, everyone knows I am super helpful to
new managers. I'm kind of a big deal around here so I know what is going on. Enjoy
your stay, sincerely. -- Den, manager of the Big Lake Solution and High Priest of the
Allied Axis
Blitz Wolfer -- I could not resist pointing out that you only have 2 wins in the last
3 turns. Wow, even little Vlad is doing better than that. -- Den
D'Mobster and Oakleaf -- Far be it from me to call it out when someone is not playing
by the rules, but you promised to fight all 5 warriors every turn, it is about time
you start doing that. -- Den
Sherman -- Other than Darque and Otto you have the most losses. And, we would always
expect Darque and Otto to lead in losses, so be careful you don't pass them up. -- Den
Boss Rat -- I thought long and hard about drawing any attention to you, but then I
figured you are just a sniveling rat so why not. We have taken notice of your sad
little team at the top, it won't be there for long. -- Den
