DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
"I HATE THIS BLISTERING HEAT!", yelled Mithril Hatchet, slamming his
practice steel helm to the ground. Unfortunately for the stableboy mopping
nearby, the helm ricocheted off of the ground and into his shin. He ran away
crying to his mother, but luckily for him there was no real oomph to Hatchet's
helmet slam -- the practice masters had drawn every ounce of strength from him
in the midday sun with a brutal workout. The child would be ok... this time.
Canifis Cannabis sat nearby. His soaked-through tunic indicated that he too had
just been put through the paces, but his casual manner rarely let on his emotional or
physical state. He glanced over to Rune Essence who was quietly learning how to carve
over in the corner.
Hatchet slumped into the nearby chair happy to be off his feet. "And why is it
that this hulking one over here gets a light workout, and then comes in to play with
his wood?"
Rune Essence darted to his feet incredibly quickly for a man of his size, at the
same time carefully placing the delicate carving he was working with on the table.
What he did NOT put down was the carving knife. Cannabis shot him a sidelong look
with raised eyebrows, almost daring him to advance on the newcomer to their stable.
Essence sat back down and continued carving.
"For someone who is supposed to be so quick to learn you are strangely daft.
Don't think because he is on your squad means he won't end you... I've seen it happen
before!"
Hatchet sat up a little straighter. "Really?" he asked.
Cannabis fixed his glance on Hatchet again, "Nah, but it made ya quit complaining
about our practice session today!"
Hatchet let out a sigh and flexed both arms many times, stretching them in all
different directions. "My arms feel like they are going to fall off," he stated.
Though Essence had continued carving, without looking up he chimed in, "What did
you think would happen when you go 0-3 in the tournament?"
"Pffaw," Hatchet waved his hand at Rune Essence, "it was all bad matchups, and
the fact that our -- manager -- wasn't there anyway. Truth be told we should all
defect to the guy who took us to the tournament... what was his name... Zoid?"
Cannabis chuckled, "Floyd" he said, "Floyd is his name".
"Whatever. I really think what I need is better quality hatchets! The hatchet I
used for the tourney would not penetrate plate armor at all, and the hilt was all
slick and turned in my hand", Hatchet exclaimed.
This caused Cannabis to chuckle again, "Now that you are here you can find a
weapon that suits you better, and you'll do better next time."
Hatchet relaxed into the chair and tilted his head towards the ceiling, obviously
consumed in thought. "Yeah, but from what I understand you don't get too many next
times around here", he stopped and shuddered. "I heard that guy Dragon Scale is on
his way out. I mean, the BIG out."
Cannabis slouched further into the chair getting comfortable, "Don't worry about
it so much, bro", he proclaimed with a smile on his face, "He's just headed back to
Runescape to drum up some more fighters for our squad. They never actually send them
to fight those creatures in the Dark Arena -- it's a stand-in".
"Oh", Hatchet said, seeming somewhat convinced. "I guess I am the last of the
original bunch, aren't I?"
Rune Essence looked up, "Which is why you finally got your chance -- we had no
other options!"
Hatchet stretched his back and his arms again, "So what's the deal with our
fighting names anyway?" he queried.
Cannabis looked over at Essence, "Do you want to tell him, or should I?" he asked
the tall fighter who now returned his glance.
"Go ahead", the tall fighter said returning to his carving.
Cannabis turns into the camera... "That's it for tonight, kiddies! If you want
to hear the rest of the story we'll need to have my opponent lose to me -- let's see
if we can make that happen!
SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly DWES EG games. I have begun to suspect trickery on
the part of FEELINGS. How else weeks like this one's 1-0-0? How else the sudden
move to 19th team? There were bitter words at THE MOTHERSHIP 9's guildhouse after a
0-0-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 35th. Dark Arena anyone?
SHAKEY caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested
ARCHAIC TRIAD and was awarded 19 points in recognition. In one of the week's more
notable duels, RUNE ESSENCE put down FLATLINER, causing him to lose 16 points of
recognition in the process. As is fitting, the most sought after warrior on the
challenge boards this week was none other than Duelmaster CANIFIS CANNABIS himself.
Who here was not present for the title fight this week as FANTASTIC boldly challenged
CANIFIS CANNABIS in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? This time victory
fell to the grasp of the usurper. All hail FANTASTIC, Duelmaster of DWES EG! Heed
this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city
shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In DWES EG "art" is a word that has
long since passed from the language! I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when
this week's challenge seeking began. IN SHINOLA is feared. This much I can say. If
you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of FEELINGS
last week. Busy avoiding IN SHINOLA?
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in DWES EG as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far
