As he'd predicted, Cyclidia and Paraldoxia had managed to earn a victory, while Two-Tone Stone and Kornoth had not. He'd hoped that Kas of Ys would eke out a win, but such was not to be. She'd given it a valiant effort though. Setting Kas' fight to loop, he turned to speak with his guest, "I'm simply not well versed enough in Chaos Theory to give you a precise answer, Azaziel," Michael shrugged and gestured to the brutal struggle playing out behind him, "her fight is a perfect example." Azaziel's shadowy form seemed pensive, "Then your numerous compilations are for naught, yes?" Michael frowned, "Far from it," his mercurial right hand shifted in a swift fluid motion, "my expertise lies in contingency and the dedicated application of thorough research," he place his silvery palm on the control plate for Morngrym's ingenious projector! As he did so, the room's lighting dimmed and a complex mathematical diagram spun into being. It portrayed a stripped down three-dimensional androgynous figure at its sore, with odd symbols and formulae in electric blue at various points. He glanced back at Azaziel, "The symbology is S--" "Sumerian," Azaziel chuckled, "I am familiar with it Michael, alien to this world though it is." Michael nodded, "Of course," turning back to the display he began to highlight specific portions of the array, "the soul you've presented has potential, but without the inclusion of luck," at this point numerous points flared brilliant red, "it doesn't safely allow for any 'extraordinary' ability." With that, the display shifted radically to portray a far more intricate design. The female figure at the center of this tangled web was far more fully recognizable, with far less scarlet notation, "Once you finalize your decision I'll be able to fill in a lot of those questionable points," he gestured to the visual, "like Paraldoxia here. I would never have been able to predict all the variables," dozens of points lit up at this, "now, I only have a handful left to decipher," all but a few of the points winked out. He brought Azaziel's prospect back up, and then turned to face him, "If Blackstorm comes through with the information I've requested, I'll be able to isolate even more positions," he sighed and rubbed his temples, "life can never be crystallized, Azaziel. Chaos is change, it's the power of creation. Death is the entropy of final law, where all factors finalize, as you well know," he stared into the simulated image for a moment before continuing, "I can evaluate your prospect, Azaziel, but the moment you quicken this soul," he gestured to the complex array, "it enters the realm of Chaos." Azaziel silently studied the intricate diagram Michael had complied. Finally, he nodded, "It will do," he turned, and just as swiftly was gone. Michael glanced at the diagram one last time before bringing Kas' fight back up. There was much left to do, and though he'd meant what he'd told Azaziel about life being to erratic to statistically lock, it didn't mean he'd quit trying to do just that.... As wisps of shadow betwixt light Wrap 'round my battered shell, I glance again toward endless night And hear Death's tolling bell... ~M. L. He too had heard the whispered tales of the part Hammer and GrimmDorr had played in the Great InterDimensional Elven Wars. "What an honor it is to finally meet the owner of the Aaaarrgh Arcade and newest member of the Council of the Four Estates!" boomed the Orc as he quaffed another Bloody Elven Tonic for good measure. Hammer raised his left eyebrow in a curious response to what the ArenaMaster had just announced. GrimmDorr grunted in response, but years of experience had steeled them both to expect the unexpected when it came to Elven matters, whether from along the corridors of the Time/Space/Dimensions continuum or here in the regions of Alastari. There was something oddly familiar about all this construction and Hammer had guessed that the whereabouts of his missing companions would no longer be hidden. After all, there were the telltale signs of the gaming establishments in this "Gladiatorial Mall" and a Weapons Factory and Flower Shoppe that somehow all belonged to the veteran manager and pointed to only one possible culprit behind this enterprise. Someone with enough stealth and influence to oversee the construction of this Aaaarrgh Arcade while the veteran manager's attention was diverted to other matters and Someone with the connections to make sure that Hammer had a seat on the Council of Four Estates because of his legendary affiliation with the Great InterDimensional Elven Wars that had brought the veteran manager to Alastari as the Guardian of the Elven Treasure Trove. Then there were the curious paintings hanging in the secret conclave that could only have been created by a certain Elven woman that Hammer had last seen in Morya, longer than the veteran manager had cared to remember for the pain her absence had brought. ArenaMaster Salgreid slammed his tankard to the table and let out a belch that the serving wench received as a compliment as a friendly pinch on her behind signaled yet another order of a Bloody Elven Tonic for himself and a Minted Elven Tonic for Hammer and a Ginger Elven Tonic for GrimmDorr the Warrior Dwarf. "Now there is the matter of instituting a Players Council for the integrity of Telorinthe Arena!" bellowed the uncharacteristically joyful Orc. But then again, an arena full of warriors meant plenty of potential blood to be shed by the ArenaMaster and his minions in the Dark Arena of the New No Tourney Slow Arena! No wonder the Warrior Orc was in such a jovial mood with the prospect of slaying some non-tourney enhanced warriors! "Hammer the WordSmith will find a suitable printing facility here within the Aaaarrgh Arcade establishment from whence an announcement can be circulated in the Telorinthe Arena newsletter to alert the assembled managers regarding the required nominating and voting process for the Arena 83 Player Council," bellowed ArenaMaster Salgreid as he struggled to his feet and tucked the AAAARRGH HAMMERZ signed registration papers into his official Gladiatorial Commission pouch. Hammer and GrimmDorr exchanged knowing glances as they bid ArenaMaster Salgreid a courteous retreat for the night, before a pair of young lovelies took the friends by the arm for a personal escort to view the new enterprise that bore the Hammer signature. [TIME JUMP] The opening round of the New Slow Arena No Tourney Arena had indeed produced some surprising results. The legendary Coach of The Consortium family had been thwarted in seizing the Top Team Honors for his Oldies stable by the manager of the Puny Orc Peloton stable as each had garnered 5-0 records. Phantasm of Pantheon proved to be managing the deadliest stable with 3 kills out of 4 wins. Not that the manager of Just Chillin had not tried his best to take the honor with 2 Kills and 4 wins! The manager of Bad Signs had also logged a Kill with 4 wins! Hammer was quite content to open with 4 wins, because the Kills would certainly follow! A total of 24 stables had made it to the opening round in Telorinthe Arena, but at least 5 managers had failed to arrive with their stables: Teams 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11 were unaccounted for and there may well have been others registered with numbers above 30 that had also failed to arrive in time! Congratulations were in order for Kendrick StormBlade who managed to guide his gladiator Marcus Rushlock of The War God's Own to the DuelMasters Throne in spite of his stable's 1-4 record for the opening cycle! A total of Seven Warriors were Slain in the opening round and nary a one to the Dark Arena! That would soon change beginning with the results of Round Two! [TIME JUMP] The young lovelies had escorted Hammer and GrimmDorr to the spacious living quarters prepared for the unsuspecting owner of the Aaaarrgh Arcade. Generous portions of flavored foods and more generous tankards of Elven Ale were presented by beautiful serving girls with their generous attributes that brought comfort to the weary travelers. Before long the veteran manager was aware of a familiar presence that had crept into the room mere moments ago! It had been too long since the companions had greeted one another and swapped tales of the Great InterDimensional Elven Wars and countless other adventures from years gone by! Why bore you with the details of the reunion of Hammer, GrimmDorr and ElGon the Warrior Elf who had masterminded the building and construction of the Aaaarrgh Arcade. Suffice it to say that the trio fellowshipped late into the night and laid their plans for further adventures in and around The City of Bells! [TIME JUMP] SomeWhere Deep within the Forests Pine, Hammer located the Shrine in the Forest where the loveliest of young elves was occupied with her paintings and reflections of meditations under the canopy of the Rivelmir Mountains and the song of nearby plunging waterfalls. It was here that Hammer was reunited with the lovely GimLee who owed her life to the veteran manager for a FarAway and LongAgo rescue! There are reunions public and reunions private! This reunion was the latter kind as GimLee threw her arms around the veteran manager's neck and smothered Hammer with kisses as she clung to him as though she would never let go ever again! [TIME JUMP] It was another reunion to behold in private as Hammer and GrimmDorr made their way to Mahalummah's Weapons Shoppe. They were pleasantly surprised to learn that Mishbawth was sailing the shipments up and down the Nhirivin River and out across the Storm Sea. Among his crew were Mappates, Madkawraw's Law, Makkeh Killer, Holy Mackerel, Great Barracuda, Bubba Bluegill and Tiger Shark. ElGon the Warrior Elf had summoned all of Hammer's Lord Protectors to help employ the poor and needy in the various enterprises of the Aaaarrgh Arcade empire! Daisy, Poppy and Tiger Lily were assigned to Hammerz Flower Shoppe and were producing a healthy profit on a daily basis! As for the gladiatorial training facilities it was evident that Mahatsawd, Lucky Lady and Wild Card were proving to be more than adequate teachers until GrimmDorr was able to assume the reigns of training! There were others whose whereabouts were presently unknown, but Telorinthe the City of Bells would soon prove to be a haven and a stronghold for those pledged to the cause that had brought Hammer and his friends to the realm of Alastari and WhereEver and WhenEver in the days of future to be! [TIME JUMP] SomeWhere BeNeath the City of Bells far below the ruins and decay lies a network of sewers that wind endlessly and connect to the Nhirivin River. There are secret places in that network of sewers where secrets long dead and secrets yet alive await discovery! There are some strange goings on beneath the City of Bells! Dark Secrets about to be.... **** Special Announcement **** Arena 83 Player Council Hammer is serving as the Duel Moderator aka Duelerator until the five member PC [Player Council] is officially in place. During Turns 1-3 any prospective PC candidates may be added to the following list of PC candidates who have already declared their candidacy on either the DM / D2 Forums or on Baphomet's website Forums [www.freepowerboards.com/baphometd2] Current Candidates include Hammer BlackStorm Wretch Baphomet JGWellington Any other interested PC candidates may openly declare their nomination for consideration in the voting process by posting a P-ad in the Arena 83 newsletter on either T-2 or T-3 and it will be up to the arena managers to choose which five candidates will serve on the five-member Players Council. All DM 83 managers are requested to submit their votes for Five (5) candidates either by Diplo Note to Baphomet manager of Circus Maximus (29) in Arena 83 or SnailMail your votes to the following address: Rick Stringer 13 St Michaels Ct Elkton, MD 21921 USA SnailMailing your votes may prove to be a quicker option rather than the Diplo because Arena 83 is a Slow Arena and the Diplos have to arrive at RSI in plenty of time to place in Baphomet's Arena 83 newsletter. Another quicker option is to log on at Baphomet's website and submit your votes to him via a Friendly PM [Personal Message] Baphomet has proven himself to be a man of integrity as witnessed in the DM/D2 Community by his honest and straightforward hosting of the past two Turf War contests in DM 47 Baphomet will post a current voting list in the T-4 newsletter [and probably on one of his website Forums] and the Final Votes will be Tabulated up to and including Saturday September 8, which gives Baphomet enough time to Post the Official Results of the Player Council membership vote in the T-5 newsletter due dated September 17. Player Council members will serve for a term of fifteen (15) turns beginning on T-6 and concluding on T-20. Plans are for a vote to take place around T-15 to determine the need for an additional term of service for an extended Player Council to be voted upon in like manner as the first term members were voted. However, this vote will include the option of appointing someone to oversee the integrity of the No Tourney Slow Arena beyond T-20 which would dissolve the Players Council at that time. The P-ad nomination declarations for Players Council membership and the subsequent voting process is to both accommodate and include those Slow Arena managers who do NOT have online internet access to either the DM/D2 Forums or to Baphomet's website Forums and who choose to actively participate in this process. A Pledge was signed by all participating managers stipulating that a Player Committee to oversee the arena would be implemented to help assure that the arena would remain free of any tourney experienced or any tourney prize-enhanced warriors. This is the agreement that Deke negotiated with RSI to open the No Tourney Arena and we are obligated to honor that agreement to get this Great Arena Experience Underway! Although some managers have understandably questioned the necessity for having such a committee, we are abiding by our Pledges to get the arena underway as was negotiated in good faith by Deke with RSI. Initially the Player Council members will monitor the Tournament Violations [if any] and serve as a sounding board for any managers who are beset by real life circumstances that prohibit them from running a full stable in Arena 83. This also includes but is not limited to monitoring managers dodging Blood Feuds by deactivating their stable or warrior(s) after a Kill. The Player Council will alert RSI about any discovered Tourney Offenses for the Immediate Deletion of any warriors who fight in a Tourney and also to Delete Any Replacement Warriors that are Created from a Tournament Replacement Sheet if the offender Died in a Tournament. As for stables dodging Blood Feuds or going inactive for a period of three (3) consecutive turns without any communication from the inactive manager(s) with the Player Council members to explain such actions, the PC members will contact RSI to recommend the offending stable(s) be Banished from Arena 83 to DragonHead Arena DM 72 and that the offending manager not be allowed to enter another stable and Pledge in Arena 83 for a period of three (3) months from the date of transfer of his/her stable. "May Your Blades Be Sharp and Your Wits Sharper!" Hammer Minister of War Arena 83 Duelerator + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Telorinthe ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + The first cycle of fights had gone well. Arenamaster Salgreid took pleasure in that, though he knew it was not his own doing. At least, not wholly so. The managers and gladiators, though mostly foreign, had been courteous, enthusiastic, and above all open-handed in their spending. This pleased the local population, especially in contrast to the debacle of the latest caravan from Serevada. By what authority did the Sultan make such demands of a free city? Salgreid took a deep breath and let it out slowly, willing his anger to go with it. The matter of the Sultan was King Jesselorne's business. His worry, his decision. He, all of them here, had hesitated over forging an alliance of sorts with the Grey Witch of Alastari. That was apparently the heart of the Sultan's aggressive stance, too; Serevada didn't like that alliance so near its border. Not to be wondered at, since the Grey Witch tolerated the worship of the demon Kjarran, long outlawed in Serevada. Salgreid grinned, baring the tusks of his orcish heritage. It would do Telorinthe no harm in days to come to have all these new and restless warriors around. A few more brawls in the Low Town was a small price to pay for an added sword--or a hundred swords--in defense So let the Sultan take his demand for tribute and hostages and eat it! The arenamaster swept a last critical glance over his small domain and nodded. Fresh sand, raked into subtle patterns. Seats clean, the stands spotless. Special boxes for the locally rich and important, for the managers, for the king's guests, all furbished with cushions and sunshades and little tables to hold drinks and snacks. Servants of the arena in their livery ready to serve. All was prepared for the second cycle of fights. All would be well. SPY REPORT Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for TOURNEY ARENA. The guys at FEMME FATALE like really pulled together to get a 3-2-0 this turn, moving up by 9. What was the name of that team who got 5-0-0 this turn for a total 7-3-0 you ask? (Sure) WORLDS OF HONOR's their name, and fighting's their game! I talked to DARK CARNIVAL's manager before the fights. He said, "We're gonna do good." And look at this: 4-1-0! Psychic, or what! MVP award for BRITTNEY SKYE? FEMME FATALE's proud of him after beating TYLER'S EVIL TWIN and getting 14 points. Talk about yer major upsets! SCREWBALL HAMMER's match with MEATWAD cost her a loss of 6 points! What a putz! MARCUS RUSHLOCK fights so hard to be Duelmaster, then quits fighting and loses the title. No one said he was a genius... Was that a tear I saw in TREVOR'S STAR's eye, as she took over Duelmastership? And wasn't GOLDEN SOMBRERO fit to be tied! I hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos. AAARRGH!!! I HATE SPYREPORTING!!! Sorry. I just had to say it. The warriors of ZEITGEIST must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something that I don't? I don't know what DEATH'S CHOSEN's been doing. They certainly haven't been accepting many fights from ZEITGEIST, that's fer sher. Can WORLDS OF HONOR's TREVOR'S STAR be more popular than me? She was challenged the most, but is that really the same? ROYAL RAGE HAMMER must not be a good enough fighter to get in fair fights. She challenged BAD THINGS. 9 is a big difference. (Well, that's what they tell me.) I thought ROYAL RAGE HAMMER showed great skill and promise when she defeated BAD THINGS. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone gets killed. Not after four more fights. Like was that some Bloodfeud, or what? (RIZZYN vs. FI, that is.) IRONHEAD bloodfeuded (is that a word?) ANUBIS for revenge over some guy's bad fortune. Was it really worth it? Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.) I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be a famous Spyreporter? I gotta leave. TOURNEY ARENA is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much! Goooooooo Oldies! -- Pep Rally Greetings all you fellow Telorintheans! We are glad to be here, and really pleased to have you guys as company. My Oldies are comprised of thoughts of yesteryear-- specifically the late 50's and early 60's and my youth at Cannelton High School in deep Southern Indiana. The team.... Draggin' Main - what we all did in our cars those days Euchre - the card game of favor in that part of the world Confession - Catholic life and living right next to the priest's house Letter Sweater - cool in those days; Coach's is in the Cannelton museum Pep Rally - Small town Indiana is all about sports (Watch Hoosiers!) -- Coach Darque Pantheon -- Hey, guy, ease up on us all! (wink) You have us fearing for our lives! Great turn. Salute. -- Coach Marcus Rushlock -- Many congratulations must be flowing your way, as the first Duelmaster of Telorinthe! We would wager all we own that you will be receiving many MORE challenges on the next round! -- Worlds of Honor Amun -- I am much improved since we've met. Should we meet again, I would expect similar results, even if not similar improvements. -- Trevor's Star Genericky -- I wish to convey my congratulations on your victory. Look for me again in the future. -- Seaford 9 Vodi -- I yield to your superior scumminess. You will be harder to defeat in our next bout, so be prepared for a change of strategy! -- Basilisk Kallor -- Not bad. Not bad at all. Not pretty. -- Golden Sombrero Euchre -- May you never draw the right bower. -- Detour Chaos Rune -- Offside on the offence, 10 yards. -- 3rd and 98 Kearitha -- May you continue to glance blows off the armor. -- Bloody Stool Tyler's Evil Twin -- Persistent sucker, ain't ya? *wince* -- Kornoth Jubilee -- I tried to come back. *sigh* Hope you appreciated the lessons. -- Kas of Ys Fener -- No offense, but I hate match-ups like that. -- Two-Tone Stone Torportly -- If I claim the lead, the dance is mine! Till next time, I salute your effort. -- Cyclidia Morbid Angel -- Interesting name...enjoy your lessons because I think I might come try you later. I've got some issues to work out in the meanwhile. Salute! -- Paraldoxia Hammer -- I am sending my votes to Baphomet, and would also like to nominate myself for the Player Council...as long as my lack of online access won't prove detrimental. I'd like to believe I am a fair-minded individual, and I am quick to utilize good ol' "snail-mail" in response to requests or observations. So, there you go. Michael Eldritch is posting his nomination. -- Michael Eldritch, mgr. Zeitgeist The Scribe -- Listings of the DM 83 standby's? Anything for you, but could you do me a favor? I take it the portal I opened for you wasn't too unpleasant? -- Dark Angel Azaziel P.S. You really should be more careful with your quest, a certain, "frigid" woman, by the name of Hel, was in my realm looking for you!
