Attention My Friends and Friendly Foes
Real life has crowded out my incentive for writing an elaborate Spotlight
because I have received notice that one of my closest friends outside the Duel
Community died of cancer last month in Brazil.
I just do not have the motivation to do any writing in light of this devastating
news!
Time will tell when I am stirred once again to write for your edification and
entertainment in our young arena!

Arena 83 Player Council
Hammer is serving as the Duel Moderator a.k.a. Duelerator until the five member
PC [Player Council] is officially in place.
During Turns 1-3 any prospective PC candidates may be added to the following
list of PC candidates who have already declared their candidacy on either the DM/D2
Forums or on Baphomet's website Forums [www.freepowerboards.com/baphometd2]

Any other interested PC candidates may openly declare their nomination for
consideration in the voting process by posting a P-ad in the Arena 83 newsletter on
either T-2 or T-3 and it will be up to the arena managers to choose which five
candidates will serve on the five-member Players Council.
All DM 83 managers are requested to submit their votes for Five (5) candidates
either by Diplo Note to Baphomet manager of Circus Maximus (29) in Arena 83 or
SnailMail your votes to the following address:

SnailMailing your votes may prove to be a quicker option rather than the Diplo
because Arena 83 is a Slow Arena and the Diplos have to arrive at RSI in plenty of
time to place in Baphomet's Arena 83 newsletter.
Another quicker option is to log on at Baphomet's website and submit your votes
to him via a Friendly PM [Personal Message].
Baphomet has proven himself to be a man of integrity as witnessed in the DM/D2
Community by his honest and straightforward hosting of the past two Turf War contests
in DM 47.
Baphomet will post a current voting list in the T-4 newsletter [and probably on
one of his website Forums] and the Final Votes will be Tabulated up to and including
Saturday September 8, which gives Baphomet enough time to Post the Official Results
of the Player Council membership vote in the T-5 newsletter due dated September 17.
Player Council members will serve for a term of fifteen (15) turns beginning on
T-6 and concluding on T-20.
Plans are for a vote to take place around T-15 to determine the need for an
additional term of service for an extended Player Council to be voted upon in like
manner as the first term members were voted. However, this vote will include the
option of appointing someone to oversee the integrity of the No Tourney Slow Arena
beyond T-20 which would dissolve the Players Council at that time.
The P-ad nomination declarations for Players Council membership and the
subsequent voting process is to both accommodate and include those Slow Arena
managers who do NOT have online internet access to either the DM/D2 Forums or to
Baphomet's website Forums and who choose to actively participate in this process.
A Pledge was signed by all participating managers stipulating that a Player
Committee to oversee the arena would be implemented to help assure that the arena
would remain free of any tourney experienced or any tourney prize-enhanced warriors.
This is the agreement that Deke negotiated with RSI to open the No Tourney Arena
and we are obligated to honor that agreement to get this Great Arena Experience
Underway!
Although some managers have understandably questioned the necessity for having
such a committee, we are abiding by our Pledges to get the arena underway as was
negotiated in good faith by Deke with RSI.
Initially the Player Council members will monitor the Tournament Violations [if
any] and serve as a sounding board for any managers who are beset by real life
circumstances that prohibit them from running a full stable in Arena 83.
This also includes but is not limited to monitoring managers dodging Blood Feuds
by deactivating their stable or warrior(s) after a Kill. The Player Council will
alert RSI about any discovered Tourney Offenses for the Immediate Deletion of any
warriors who fight in a Tourney and also to Delete Any Replacement Warriors that are
Created from a Tournament Replacement Sheet if the offender Died in a Tournament.
As for stables dodging Blood Feuds or going inactive for a period of three (3)
consecutive turns without any communication from the inactive manager(s) with the
Player Council members to explain such actions, the PC members will contact RSI to
recommend the offending stable(s) be Banished from Arena 83 to DragonHead Arena DM 72
and that the offending manager not be allowed to enter another stable and Pledge in
Arena 83 for a period of three (3) months from the date of transfer of his/her
stable.

Arenamaster Salgreid watched the gladiators shoving and laughing as they took
their positions in the wide passage that led to the arena proper. He had been
concerned about the possibility for discontent, with the Gladiatorial Commission's
summer tourney being held near by. Well, near was perhaps not the word for the
Blackstone site down on the coast of the Storm Sea, but it was nearer than Alastari.
By the vows their managers had taken, these gladiators were barred from
participation, from the chance for skills, victories, and glory. But they seemed not
to care. In fact, what comments he could hear seemed to be of pity for the tourney
contestants rather than envy!
Odd, that. What was their reasoning? He moved closer, though remaining in the
shadowy side corridor. More phrases came clear through the jostle of voices.
"--poor fools'll never know what it is to fight EQUALS--"
"--only let out onto the sands four times a year--"
"--may never see the same opponent twice in their entire LIVES--"
Ah. Salgreid retreated again, nodding. This is what the Commission agent who
had recruited him--Carriath, his name had been, and he'd been the arenamaster in a
place called Vithicar--had said. That some gladiators and managers desired a return
to the pure form of the sport, undistorted by the hidden effects and magical
enhancements of the tourneys. Well and good. Only let these gladiators and their
managers remain content with Telorinthe and its ways, and he, Salgreid, would also be
content.
Horns blared in the sunlight beyond the gateway. He turned and hurried to his
official position on the arenamaster's dais overlooking the sands, taking his place
just before the first of the long line of gladiators stepped out. Raising his sword
in salute to those who would risk their lives on the sands today, as, full of life
and courage, they paraded once around the arena before the crowd.
SPY REPORT
Busy, busy, busy, lots of things happening in TOURNEY ARENA this turn, and let's
start with a look at some of the teams. It seems the training can make the
difference, as OLDIES is pushed out of top team by PUNY ORC PELOTON, who came from
2nd with a 4-1-0 this turn. Now, what did these guys have for breakfast this
morning? ZEITGEIST has turned a 3-2-0 into 13th place from 24th. Give me the
recipe! The OLLIS HEROES guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in
the future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, GOLDEN
SOMBRERO fought GENERICKY and gained 16 points and contributed to BAD SIGNS' 4-1-0.
JUBILEE has lost to TWO-TONE STONE, falling 11 points, while helping make WETWORKS a
2-3-1 turn. Due to hers absence and inability to defend the throne, TREVOR'S STAR
has lost the title of Duelmaster. We should ask ROID FLOYD about the thrill of
victory, and what being the new Duelmaster does for a warrior, he's now the one to
ask. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from unimpeachable sources that The
Dripping Blade uses trolls in their stew. Talk about gristle!
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. AAAARRGH HAMMERZ has cause to stand tall, as
they were TOURNEY ARENA's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And avoiding AAAARRGH HAMMERZ more than any other team we find AQUA TEENS.
TOURNEY ARENA, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? The most
challenged warrior this turn was PUNY ORC PELOTON's warrior ROID FLOYD. More
fighters challenged him than challenged the Duelmaster!
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. Whatever bright future EUCHRE may
have had, it's all history now. The manager of OLDIES has lost a promising 2-0-0
warrior. The Dripping Blade declares a free round for TORPORTLY and all of
INVIDIOTS, for having revenged AAAARRGH HAMMERZ's MUTAGENIC HAMMER for killing one of
their comrades. Congratulations go out to OLLIS HEROES, with VODI revenging a
bloodfeud against STEAL HOME of BAD SIGNS. We'd like to remind certain teams not to
rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's considered rude.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare

SUMMER FACE-TO-FACE IN ATLANTA!
Our next summer FTF will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, July 27-29, 2007. It will be
held at the Sheraton Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta, on 3405 Lenox Road NE (404-261-9250).
Room rates are $95.00 per night, 1-4 occupancy. There is a free shuttle from the
MARTA station two blocks away and free parking, high speed internet (for extra charge),
fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--ask for the Reality
Simulations room block. Look for transportation info in the tournament information
