SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly TELORINTHE games. My praise to OLDIES for their 4-1-1
week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of notice!
VENGEANCE HAMMER caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he
skillfully bested EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and was awarded 15 points in recognition. In one
of the week's more notable duels, OUTLANDER HAMMER put down ESTELLA HAVISHAM, causing
her to lose 13 points of recognition in the process. Not for nothing has GOSSIPID in
the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week she's proven hers
combat skill yet again. Would you believe that over half of the old women in
TELORINTHE seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city TELORINTHE. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's
challenge seeking began. ZEITGEIST is feared. This much I can say. Methinks more
than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the better part of last week
avoiding ZEITGEIST. Indeed it was DEATH'S CHOSEN. Mighty fighters cannot but expect
competition from those below. LILITH take warning! You have more than a few enemies
in TELORINTHE. LILITH must really be harboring a grudge against the OLLIS HEROES
guild! Merciless, 18 challenged down BUZZ points this week to duel with she. The
weight of the challenge fell hard upon BUZZ and predictably he was defeated by
LILITH. This is how to arouse the anger of an entire guild!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? The warrior's path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one
reward--death. This past week KAS OF YS, at 5-7-0, departed TELORINTHE forever. My
hearty congratulations KALLOR, for thy revenge upon LOTUS-EATER, slayer of thy fallen
comrade. Next time she will know better, eh? Some say a warrior is judged by the
way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the
belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far off
city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a
rage quickly and often. The wise are angered by the same thing only once. Zontani

PERSONAL ADS
Gossipid -- Now I must admit that I liked your column again! However, Mrs. Vaughn,
English and Literature (and Latin) teacher that she was, is not giving it any rave
reviews. Keep up the good work. -- Coach
Fener -- Your Manager fell asleep? If he doesn't go for long, patient, and great
style, then don't let him try to read Tolstoy's War And Peace! -- Confession
Toa Jaller -- I guess that was a good try. Just don't bloody my prized sweater. -- Letter Sweater
All -- Coach's Letter Sweater was heavy black wool, with a big gold "C" on the front.
The C had a small football, basketball, baseball, and track (mercury emblem) on it.
On the sleeve was a big gold star, for having served as captain, and 4 gold chevrons
beneath it for each year of lettering. -- The 1963 Cannelton Bulldog Almanac
Fi -- I don't think of you as Foe, and I nearly Fum bled that win. -- Draggin' Main
Paraldoxia -- Lucky? After all you revealed to me, there can surely be no good gods
on your team? -- Confession
Vengeance Hammer -- Clean up that mess! -- Custodian
Fener? I didn't want you! You are too much for me! -- Pep Rally
Azaziel -- You can check with the Gladiatorial Commission, but this team is my team
from 81, which I had more fun with. They have a waiver for no tourney experience, so
you can request to have them checked at any time and have a warrior DA'ed that falls
under the violation of any rules. Truth is, the old team got boring and this team
sat for financial reasons.
Now managers that know me will tell you I'm above reproach on issues and while I
will bend rules as they can be bent, I will not break them. If you do have a problem
with what has been done, then either step up and do something about it or stop
whining and being a brat. I'm sure you can handle that challenge. -- JGW
Hammer -- If you would please inquire about the status of Femme Fatale II and ensure
that any warrior with tourney experience be Dark Arena'd immediately for violation of
the rules and spirit of this arena. Boy, I wish there was a stipulation that anyone
willing to throw that accusation around without any basis and were wrong would have
any warrior DA'ed by the manager who was accused, at his discretion. Oh, well.
Hindsight is what it is. -- JGW
Gossipid -- Keep it up. Keep it up. Some quite interesting, if not completely
grammatical ads. Love it. -- Coach
Fener -- Stay awake? Where's NO-DOZ when you need it? -- Coach
P.S. They still make that stuff?
Toa Jaller -- The feud was fun. Now don't get hurt. -- Letter Sweater
72 Over Par -- A long slow dance, just how I like them. Thanks. -- Treach
Pep Rally -- Lots of Pep not much Rally. -- Fener
Foe -- A nice even matchup for once and I think the better man won. -- Kallor
Prins Rikard -- Well I see you made good use of your team mate's defeat. Maybe I can
return the favor later on. -- Togg
Torportly -- Interesting challenge. I am pretty sure you didn't intend it to go the
way it went though. Maybe next time. -- Trake
Lotus-Eater -- I seem to have missed you this turn because I was a lazy manager.
Hope to catch up with you next turn. -- Wretch
Lyrial -- Have to try that at least one more time. -- Golden Sombrero
Kas of Ys -- Way to use and abuse Gushan to ensure your win. -- Bloody Stool
Lola -- Are you a showgirl? -- Steal Home
Genericky -- I count that as 2-1 my favour. Any bets on how many times we meet up
before leaving this town? -- Detour
Treach -- Er, y? -- 72 over Par
Valentine Hammer -- Not my weapon of choice, but it served its purpose. -- Helga
Revenant -- I am told we are not supposed to fight each other's team.... My
apologies. -- Bushan
Bloody Stool -- Tough one, ain't ya? -- Kas of Ys
Delialah -- Nothin' personal sis, but you need to hit the weights. -- Cyclidia
Confession -- Do you really need one to determine my motives? -- Paraldoxia
The Scribe -- I truly hope that "things" are doing better! :) -- Azaziel
Bad Signs -- Congratulations on your revenge. We will be watching you. -- Azaziel
Unify with a Spade -- I don't know who "Dawn" is, but perhaps you should find her!
All this "waiting" you're doing doesn't seem healthy! -- Rizzyn
Outlander Hammer -- I think next time, I prefer you to stand. -- Morwel
Simple Tongue -- Your tongue may be simple, but my injuries are complex! Nice fight!
-- Ishtar
Golden Sombrero -- Good job! Maybe next time you'll let me give you a nice caress,
they you'll be screaming. -- Lyrial
Gossipid -- Congrats on remaining Duelmaster! I'm certain that Michael will try to
get you drunk again! -- Azaziel

THE STOMPING GROUNDS
The new all-basher arena will be in Seam, DM 20. Only new teams (0FE) may
participate. The only rule is that all of your warriors must be bashers.
The first turn of the contest will be due on Monday, April 28. It will be a slow
turn-around arena. If you wish to enter a team, please submit your new team and first
turn strategies before then. Only one team per manager, please.
This arena will stay open indefinitely, providing there is interest (i.e., this is not
a contest that runs a set number of turns, although there are prizes scheduled after
the first 15 rounds). For more information, see details in the first newsletter or on
the forums.

Zeb Karan looked around the table at the rest of Dwes Eg's staff. Arenamasters,
standby and Dark Arena warriors, stewards and infirmarians, even the maintenance crew.
There was wine and beer on the side-table, even sandwiches, but no one was partaking.
"Stop looking like your dog died," Lew Voth said. He had once been the
arenamaster of Sentern and had taken his turns overseeing the fights in Dwes Eg. "We
all knew this day would come. When are they closing us down?"
"Immediately after the tourney, according to the information I was given."
"Short notice," Jame Rinvar, another arenamaster commented.
"No offense intended, these things just creep up on people. Tourneys make it
worse, I suppose, all the new teams being entered." Zeb grimaced. "Some of the file
cabinets have exploded from over-stuffing, you know, and it takes so long to run
through all the registered gladiators to find those who are planning to fight on any
given day that the day is OVER by the time we're ready to start."
"Which is why they closed down Sentern, Cimmeriac, and Firehold," Lew pointed
out. "This is the same thing all over again."
"Cycles," Jame said. "Things happen, and then later they happen again. We live
with it. And Dwes Eg did last for, what, eight and a half years before it reached the
explosion point. That isn't bad. That's forever, speaking practically."
"Eight or nine years is not forever--"
"The only thing that's real is today, and maybe, up to a point, tomorrow. I
don't see a problem with this. What are the new parameters, Zeb?"
"Dwes Eg remains open, existing teams can run and can recruit new members. BUT,
no new teams will be accepted. New teams will go into a new arena, DM 84, running its
first turn on the seventh of May. A regular two-week cycle."
"So Dwes Eg isn't actually being closed, just closed to new teams. Okay. This
works," Jame said again. "Number 84... does this mean it'll be out at that Blackstone
place? Rotten weather half the year, but I suppose you could say that about any site.
What about regional allegiance?"
"None specified in the data I received. Probably a personal-choice situation,"
Zeb said.
"Transfers?" Lew asked.
"I don't know about transfers IN," Zeb said, "but I'd guess yes, they would be
allowed. No transfers OUT, though. None out of DM 82, for that matter. Once you're
in 82 or 84, the only way out is death or graduation."
"That fairly describes most arenas," Jame said. "Anyone who takes up the
gladiatorial life has already accepted that."
