                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly TELORINTHE games. Former top team INVIDIOTS was
unseated this week as BAD SIGNS moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with a
4-1-0 record for the round. There were bitter words at OLLIS HEROES' guildhouse
after a 1-4-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 7th. Dark Arena
anyone? GENERICKY caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he
skillfully bested MORWEL and was awarded 24 points in recognition. In one of the
week's more notable duels, GENERICKY put down MORWEL, causing her to lose 21 points
of recognition in the process. Not for nothing has CONFESSION in the past laid claim
to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week it's proven its combat skill yet again.
Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights without
pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In TELORINTHE "art" is a word that has
long since passed from the language! I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when
this week's challenge seeking began. ZEITGEIST is feared. This much I can say. If
you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of DEATH'S
CHOSEN last week. Busy avoiding ZEITGEIST? Loose talk at the arena has reached my
ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after OUT FOR A DUCK.
Watch your back! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems
that PRINS RIKARD posted a challenge against the more highly recognized TORPORTLY.
The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand PRINS RIKARD was killed by TORPORTLY.
Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! The warrior's path is harsh. For mediocrity there
is but one reward--death. This past week PRINS RIKARD, at 8-7-1, departed TELORINTHE
forever. Walk proud, warriors of BAD SIGNS! By striking down GOSSIPID you have
avenged the honor of your dead. Your virtue is known to all in TELORINTHE. Some say
a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in
hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in TELORINTHE as ever I remembered them....and the
fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I
keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till
next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often. The wise are
angered by the same thing only once. Zontani Sharp Eyes

Column will not be worse than yours was. -- Confession

Melancholia -- Cheer up. I won! -- Custodian

Fhume -- You surely put it to me. I salute you. Two bits; four bits; six bits; a
dollar; all for Fume, stand up and holler! -- Pep Rally

Foe -- It was my day. I have been needing one of those. -- Letter Sweater

     Don't we all, sometimes.

Rizzyn -- You needed that magic scimitar to shut down my engine. I am glad you
couldn't find it. -- Draggin' Main

Salgreid keeps a firm hand on those magic scimitars.

Dark Oracle -- Was that a little better for you? It sure was for me! Man, that
opher HURT! -- Coach

A salute to all you guys competing out there. This Bud's for you. -- Coach

Gossipid -- You failed to write a DM column, and as a result, lost throne. Lack of a
DM column is always a bad sign. -- Dark Oracle, purveyor of Bad Signs

Confession -- Congrats on the throne. Unlike your precedor, may we hear of your
misgivings in a verbose fashion. -- Steal Home

Paraldoxia -- I take it, the scarcity of my skills will be more valuable than the
quantity of yours. -- Steal Home

Vodi -- We knew facing the 19th hole in the middle of the adepts was a very bad sign.
-- Ghost of Quadruple Bogey

Eye -- Eew, lump in the eye? Most disconcerting. -- Lump

Gooml -- I'd rather not, in fact, I want a little more. -- Out For a Duck

Bongo -- Well, I feel you've beaten up on me a little more than was really required.
-- Yield

Lump -- I'm not so classy as you may think... a drink would do nicely :-) --
IITYWTMWYBMAD

Ambitious Guard -- I guess someone told you that team Acronym's had killed a few of
your colleagues.... Sadly for me you refused to give up then turned on me to send me
to Ahringol. A real pity that given my 10-10-5-21-9-18-11 stats and that I was
blessed in decise.... What's the rules for warriors from this arena fighting in
tourneys of the dead?? -- Ghost of WYSIWYG

Helga Hoarfrost -- Not only a better result than our last meeting, but great training
too! You're the kind of girl I could grow to like!! -- ROFLMAO

Yoda -- I had a think about how to cope with your slipperyness.... Looks like it
worked.... Until we meet again! -- IITYWTMWYBMAD

Out for a duck -- I'm going to have to try and avoid giving you a pair.... -- GOOML

Ileosa -- I'm not ready for the likes of you... yet.... -- BOGOF

Cofession -- Congrats on reaching the top spot, but isn't there something about
division of Church and State? I'm going to have to check with the Scribbler and do
some research! -- Azaziel

Pep Rally -- Those are some VERY small hot pants! Why don't you meet me at Eldritch
Concoctions for drinks, I'm buying! -- Morwel
P.S. Make sure you wear those hot pants! *wink*

Steal Home -- I'm glad I amuse somebody! Azaziel is not happy with some of my
performances. -- Rizzyn

All -- Maybe we should hold a contest of some kind, perhaps along the lines of a Turf
War? Rewards would be something along the lines of renaming title, arena, DA
fighters, etc.... It would have to be tempting to all managers due to the type of
arena this is. You would truly have bragging rights due to the lack of tournament
play. And afterwards, Michael can hand out his "mystery" cookie! -- Azaziel

All -- My warriors are taking a turn of silence for that awful turn they posted.
*wry grin* Meanwhile, I have a hypothetical idea for the arena as a whole. I'll
need some "insider" feedback as well on this.

If the true FE of any warrior in a "no tourney" arena was posted, perhaps in
parenthesis after the warrior's number, the hidden advantage of that FE would be
greatly diminished. Or if the moderator would post a short list in each newsletter
of the current "bonus FE" of any active warriors, the same result could be
accomplished.

I realize that RSI is unlikely to change code to account for FE, but it should be a
pretty easy mod. Anyone can technically track any warrior's FE if they observe every
arena newsletter, so I don't see why allowing teams to transfer in (tourney xp, or
not) would be a problem at that point.

As an incentive to remain tourney free, perhaps we could develop a tourney-free
contest for Telorinthe. Any warrior with tourney sp would be ineligible for such a
contest. Regardless, a posted FE level, by moderator (I know it's extra work for
you, so I'd understand a hesitancy to do this) or by an RSI exception to these sorts
of arenas, would seem to go a long way to appeasing both sides of the spectrum.

Let me know what you all think of this. If anybody has a contest idea for "pure"
warriors, spit it out and spread the word. I know TW is eating up attention right
now, but it won't last forever.

For those who remain, a salute. This is still OUR arena. -- Micahel Eldritch, mgr
Zeitgeist

Okay, I'm not running a team here, but I can't help having an opinion. Give it no
more weight than you would that of an ordinary player with years of observation,
okay?

Contests, as currently run, don't help an arena. In the short term--for the first
half or two thirds of the contest span, yes, they bring people in. But the people
they bring in do not seem to be the kind who are making a commitment to the arena,
and they don't stay. That's the key right there: They don't stay. And not only do
the players who come in for the contest not stay, often enough they seem to drive out
the steady core of the arena.

Think carefully before you bring a contest down on Telorinthe. -- Jorja
