                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

I am 36-4-1 with 17 consecutive DM crowns, 75+ political points, almost 200
recognition, a master of one tactic -- and I cannot become a Lord Protector yet?
Shucks, I guess I will just keep hearing gossip, er, a, confessions, and run it on
out to 20 consecutive crowns. What the heck!
Meanwhile, I am proud of my two graduating teammates -- Custodian and Draggin'
Main -- so let me tell you all about them and their achievements.
     Lord Protector Custodian
     14-9-15-15-15-9-7 BA
Bonused +1 Init, +1 Attack, damage doing
Tremendous damage and normal endurance at birth
     Bumped to 15-9-15-15-16-10-7
     Skill learn rate -- a measly 1.28
His fave weapon may be the whiffle
        14-78-11 with WH
        2-21-6 with ML
        4-15-3 with WF
3 experts -- Init/Att/Dec, although probably adexed Init this last fight
Estimated faves Hi/Lo, WF, no tactic, no fave learn (Fave learn was zilch!)
And on to the second.
     Lord Protector Draggin' Main
     16-18-10-4-19-9-8 mode TP
Good Damage, Tremendous endurance at birth
Bumped to 19-21-10-7-21-10-11 (and awesome endurance)
Skill learn rate at 1.11is favorite weapon? Swung little, never critted
     Expert -- parry
     Estimated faves -- yeah, sure
So there you have it. We look forward to some newbie Oldies, and, meanwhile, come
and get me. I need more gossip and I would really love to have a 2nd death to my
credit.

                                      SPY REPORT

Much has changed in TELORINTHE since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. What's with STEEL MUSE?
She actually beat MIDDLE WAY 21's MORIS NAHR, and walked away with 20 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at NONSUCH HOUSE. SILVERBACK lost 12 points to
INDIANA JONES. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe SILVERBACK will provide more
easy wins... Apparently TELORINTHE isn't filled with as many gutless wonders as I
thought. The Dreaded Duelmaster got 4 challenges this turn! WASNIS was reminded on
the sands why CONFESSION is Duelmaster. Advice to fighters with a 1 will--give up
fighting!
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports.
TELORINTHE thinks OLLIS HEROES and their 95-103-3 is too much! If at first you don't
succeed, give up... The bums at OLDIES couldn't face the challenges from OLLIS
HEROES! No excuse for that! CORNELIUS didn't quite know what to make of a challenge
he received from EGOCENTRIC of ZEITGEIST, who is 24 points below him. EGOCENTRIC
perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he was subdued by CORNELIUS and ended up
with 7 recognition points.
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Who will dare fight CUSTODIAN, after he returned
from the Dark Arena? (For the record 22-12-1 is 116, and has he points) Is it my
imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so
gloriously!
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing.
TELORINTHE is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Time
for my medication, so I'll leave now. Practice, practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

Helga -- You thrashed and you bashed and you huffed and puffed and you could not blow
the confessional down. Per your penance, sing 3 Amazing Graces and dance 2 waltzes
to the accompaniment of an Accordion. (provided) -- Confession

Quite Remming -- I had a blast! I love winning! Quita show it was! -- Pep Rally

Vodi -- It took 26 the last time. I must be gaining or you must be slipping? --
Draggin' Main

Khalhum's Dwarf -- I feel good about that! I cleaned your clock instead of your
toilet. -- Custodian

Embezzling Scribe -- We made a fine duet. Thanks for yielding the crescendo to me.
-- Accordion

Orrie -- You are probably right. I think everyone has more skills than me. Most
have far better "numbers" too. BUT, I am now a Lord Protector and I am off to see the
wizard. Now where was that yellow brick road? -- Custodian

     It probably needs sweeping.

Well, I have to say "well done" to my team for their 5-0 and for the two announced
graduations. -- A proud Coach

Moris Nahr -- Well, of course our guildhouse is really there! Where else would we
be? The answer is, of course, closer to your second definition that, "no other is
like it." "Without peer" is another definition. But we are definitely there.
Although if people don't notice us and fail to use their avoids, that would be okay
as well. -- Dimetreus, manager in residence of the Nonsuch House

Yoda -- A little guy like you ought to be careful about getting picked up and hauled
away by a bird of prey. Kinda dangerous. -- Whitey d'Eagle

Sam Tall -- I must be getting better. Didn't I fail to do that just a few turns ago?
-- Steel Muse

Confession -- Let's give that another go 'round, ya tin can. -- Helga

Wasnis -- Tit for Tat, Orc. You'll live. -- Cyclidia

Karin Lo -- Ah well, you lose some, I lose some more. *sigh* -- Melancholia

Moris Nahr -- Eh? Screw an update, I need an UPGRADE! -- Twitter

Indiana Jones -- Hmmm... This whole gladiator thing does NOT seem to be working out
for me. -- Egocentric

Avatar -- Bold, aren't you? But not a god yet, so I get the win. Not that I'm a
god, either! Many people, beginning with my teammates, would rise up to assure us
all of that. Better luck next time, if luck enters into it much. -- Orrie Pollas

Melancholia -- Thanks but no thanks. What's the good of it? -- Karin Lo

Twitter -- Bird calls? Well... if that's what makes your socks roll up and down. --
Moris Nahr

Pep Rally -- I don't see how you can do that in this weather! When the temperature
and the humidity are both in the nineties, it's just too much. Although I do like
the moves you demonstrated, and as soon as I can get somewhere cool, I'm going to
practice them. -- Quita Remming

Steel Muse -- Would it do any good to say that I don't find steel amusing? No, I
didn't think so. I suppose that counts as a good fight, but the best good fights are
the ones I win. -- Sam Tall

Our congratulations to Custodian and Draggin' Main. -- Jorja and the Middle Way

Okay, we did have some tourney participants, but as they were graduated first, I
guess that works. We salute them. -- Jorja and the Middle Way

                                 *TURF WAR VII RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2010 (12 turns)
Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47) arena.

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork (DM 47)
newsletter.
        2. Indicate in the newsletter which Captain/alliance you will join.
        3. Announcements made on the D2 Forums or elsewhere will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying/authorizing, in the North Fork newsletter those who wish to
participate under the banner of their alliance. (Lack of participant indication of
joining and/or lack of lack of Captain confirmation will delay a team's participation
in the Turf War.)
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate. (Note: Captains
may, if they wish, submit certs for all potential members of their alliance.)

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate (Unless already
submitted by Captain. Note: extras will not be returned, but will go into the winning
pool of prizes.)
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter. Announcement made
on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until an RSI Gift Certificate is
received, and participant indication and captain confirmation are posted in the North
Fork newsletter. NO EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified in the newsletter
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate disqualification
(including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to take any multiple
teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other team warriors).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not
properly declare or get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by
Turn 1. In other words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the
Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn
3. All conditions must be met before scoring will begin--declaration, verification,
and Gift Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note:
the intent is to have a very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are
required from the moderators.)

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                                   Win Loss Kill Die
Up Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5

*After 2nd win in DA, warrior scores no additional points for wins,
** A Champion's double score applies to his score only -- not to the opponent.
*** No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death
or death in a tournament. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any point
and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -10 points.) Points awarded for
tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, 15 for a TV and 25 for a TC. Death in
a tournament negates any tournament points gained and results in a-5 score.
    ***** Halfway points scored are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
(etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must have fought 75% of its
possible fights.) Final 12 Round points scored are 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc)
for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must
have fought 75% of its possible fights.)

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
     1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Style Master +2
      1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must have fought at least one previous fight in the North Fork
(DM47 arena) to be able to be declared a champion.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 15 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) wins
such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) win
such status.
        4. Points awarded for tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, (15
total for a TV and 25 total for a TC.) However, death in a tournament will result in
a -5 score for that tournament. (If a warrior TV's and is subsequently killed in a
tournament the points scored are -5 for that tournament.)
        5. Points for TVs and TCs and tournament deaths will be applied the Turn
after RSI posts tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North Fork turn 276
to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with Alliance A.
If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of five (5) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War VII.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is normally a "winner take all" contest. However, for TWVII, a prize
will be awarded each of the twelve turns to the individual team/manager that fights
five fights and has the best w/l record that turn. (Tiebreakers are in order - kills,
recognition points earned.) All prizes and 100% of the Gift Certificates will be
awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance at the end of the competition. It is
the responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

All entry fees (rollup certs) are awarded to the winning alliance, except for
the twelve reserved for the individual winning manager each week.)
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of all Dark Arena Monsters (two for each manager in the winning
alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have at least one
DM47 arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each and every individual manager who
fights in all 12 rounds AND 54 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied
to a living warrior from (DM 47)
These RSI awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee)
within 4 turns of the end of TW VI. The certs will be mailed to the winning alliance
by the Moderators within two weeks of the end of the TW.

Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com or
wfms101 at aol dot com.

Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!

This contest will begin in November 2010 following the Fall Mail In.

                        BLOODGAMES at the SUMMER FACE-TO-FACE

Back by popular demand, we will be having Bloodgames at the Summer FTF! For those of
you who always wanted the chance to manage the last warrior standing alive upon the
arena sands, your day has come. At the end of the ten turns, even though several
warriors, bruised and scarred, MAY yet live, only one will be crowned Champion of the
Bloodgames. And in this game mere survival counts for little. A great general once
said, "The object of battle is not to die for your cause, but to make your enemy die
for his." This general would have greatly enjoyed the Duelmasters Bloodgames. There
will be two different arenas:

DM 98: for Face-to-Face attendees, with turn-by-turn strategies, and
DM 99: for all managers, with one strategy for all ten rounds

Gameplay proceeds according to standard DM rules, except for a few notable exceptions:

BLOODGAMES ROLLUP -- Your Bloodgames team is ten warriors, one of each fighting
style, each warrior designed from scratch! (All is 84 points, 3-21, as usual.)

DEATH -- As the name implies, the Bloodgames will leave the arena sands somewhat darker
before they're over. It's a dangerous sport intended only for the tough and spirited.
The Arenamaster will be less likely to intercede on behalf of a dying warrior. Even
at a 1 kill desire, kill attempts will occur.

REPLACEMENTS AND ROLLUPS -- There will be no replacement characters.

CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES -- In DM 98, there no regular challenges, only bloodfeuds.
For DM 99, warriors may not change their strategy from round to round (to make it fair
for those who could not attend the F-t-F). There will be no DA challenges.

TURN PROCESSING AND DUE DATES -- If you are not attending the FTF, we must have your
rollups and strategies by Wednesday, July 7, else they are due by 9pm on Friday, at
the hotel. The Bloodgames will process at the FTF with the regular tournament.

MISSED TURNS -- All warriors fight each round. Only the dead may rest.

ERRORS -- If we make an input error, that warrior will be awarded a win and kill.
Errors must be reported before the next turn processes.

NEWSLETTER -- Warriors are ranked according to their number of kills. Champions of
Bloodgames may write a column for the newsletter at the end of the games.

FEES -- A Bloodgames rollup costs a $10 set-up fee. Managers may roll up more than
one team but may run only one team in each arena. The fee for all ten rounds is $49.

AWARDS -- The Bloodgames last ten rounds. Only warriors who survive to the end of
Turn 10 will be eligible for an award. However, a consolation award of a Bloodgames
T-shirt will be awarded to the dead warrior with the most kills.

The living warrior with the greatest number of kills will be the Bloodgames Champion.
Bloodgames Victor titles, 2nd and 3rd place, and Bloodgames Runner-up titles, 4th
through 6th place, will be awarded to those living warriors with the greatest number
of kills at the end of Turn 10, with one other important consideration: Each of these
six warriors must be of a different fighting style. Win/loss records and, if
necessary, recognition points will only be used to determine awards if there is a tie.

A Bloodgames T-shirts will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most kills.

The Bloodgames Champion fights for free in Advanced Duelmasters, and all Champions and
Victors earn Tournament Victor status, which allows them to challenge once per turn
with increased priority. These awards last for six months. The manager of the
Bloodgames Champion, Victors, and Runners-up will receive Bloodgames T-shirts.

AFTERMATH -- Warriors from the Bloodgames may not transfer to any other arena. Once
the games are over, the arena and teams will be disbanded. The fighters have won
their freedom and will never more be seen in the gladiatorial games. A special bonus
will, however, be awarded to the 1st through 3rd place warriors. Lady Sheila
Greywand, of the Isle of the Eye, has consented to allow the top three surviving
gladiators in each Bloodgames admission to the Advanced Duelmasters Games. Any
special training required to qualify those three warriors for Advanced Duelmasters
combat will be conducted before transfer into A.D. Astute managers will note that
this means a slim, but possible chance that a warrior designed from scratch will
survive the Bloodgames, win one of the top three places, and go on to glory in A.D.
That warrior could be yours!

The challenge is yours to take. The final plans are yours to make.
When the dust settles, remember: To the victor goes the spoils!
