TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Quita Remming turned first to the editorial page of the Telorinthe Times,
scanned the weather column, and hissed.
Her teammate Sam Tall jumped and cursed his spilled soup. "Don't DO that,
Quita! What's up?" He licked soup off his hand and took a seat at the table.
"The weather forteller," she growled. "I figured we were far enough inland here
for it not to COUNT that we're near the Storm Sea--"
"Lessee," Orrie Pollas said, plucking the paper from her hands. The pages
crackled as he flipped through them. "Oh, for--! Yeah, I see what you mean." He
glanced at his teammates. "You thought we left the bad weather behind when we left
Noblish Island, didn't you? Nope. The foreteller is seeing lots and lots of snow,
with strong winds, the working definition of a blizzard. What fun, eh?"
"Well, we ARE right under a mountain," Sam said.
"Speaking of which," Karin Lo cut in, "I've invited the Dwarf over for a drink
and maybe dinner."
"Karin!" Quita leaped to her feet. "We're just having stew and bread! We
haven't scrubbed the floors in a month! We aren't READY for company--"
"And I'm going to invite Sanger from Suddenly the Van," Moris added.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Number 25! TWENTY-FIVE Duelmaster Crowns! A lot is a lot is a lot. One would
think, then, that the DM Column should be all about me. Yes? But, no; I shall take
this opportunity to talk about the whole team.
The team name LIFE IMPACTS was chosen by the Big Boss and the team members would
all be someone or something that had a big impact on his life. So, what impact have
these guys been on The Boss's life?
CONFESSION, which is me. The boss lived next door to the large, old, beautiful
Gothic Catholic church (St. Michael's) and next door to the Catholic grade school and
Nun's home. He spent many years as an altar boy, especially serving most 6:30AM
Communions in the summer. One of his jobs, as his family did a lot for the church,
was to clean and spiffy the confessionals.
ACCORDION was his favorite musical instrument. He had many years of lessons on
it and the piano, and played first seat alto saxophone in the band and orchestra. He
used to get out his chair, his stand, his music, and his accordion and, dressed in
shorts and tee shirt with no shoes, would play music on the sidewalk in his small
town. When the priest (Father Bankowski), just up the hill came out, he would always
request "Lady Of Spain".
CRACKER JACKS was THE favorite snack food, especially with the prize inside.
When his favorite uncle (Leroy) visited, which was not often as he was a career Air
Force man, he always brought the boss Cracker Jacks.
CONTRACT BRIDGE was a game he learned at a very young age. He was excited when
he watched Goran On Bridge on television, went to the library and got some books on
bridge, and learned. This "talent" served him well in college as bridge was a source
of income. He earned enough points in duplicate tournaments to become a Master while
in college, and he and his best partner (Bill Brooks) played for the small college
championship in the early 60s. (and lost)
LIFE SCOUT. Boy Scouts, and Explorer Scouts were a way of life in his small
town, and he put many fun years into the organizations. His father became the "Fruit
and Nut" merit badge counselor via being the only one in the area with an orchard.
Well, there are my teammates. Decent sort, they all are. Be easy on them.

SPY REPORT
Welcome TELORINTHE. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights
have I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... What's with MATS? He
actually beat OLDIES' LIFE SCOUT, and walked away with 17 more points from the fight.
Laughs were big at SUDDENLY, THE VAN while they watched SVEN clobber CONTRACT BRIDGE.
It lost 4 points and got bruised from objects thrown from the stands. I can barely
restrain my enthusiam for MIDDLE WAY 21's outstanding member, Duelmaster KARIN LO. I
suppose you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters?
Tough!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... TELORINTHE thinks OLDIES
and their 172-73-6 is too much! If at first you don't succeed, give up... The bums
at SUDDENLY, THE VAN couldn't face the challenges from OLDIES! No excuse for that!
How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, MORIS NAHR! Don't
make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you.
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover
stupor. You young rapscallions, take note!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Time for my medication, so I'll leave now. Practice,
practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

Sven -- Ya. I blink. I plink. Ve play? -- Accordion (in his best bass voice)
Quita Remming -- I guess that means more spilt milk? -- Confession
Sanger -- Wow! That Toy I pulled out of the box sure worked wonders for me! I think
I will try it again. -- Cracker Jacks
Moris Nahl -- I saw the match. I saw the experience. I chalked it up as a probable
loss. I pumped some air; I hit a chord; I ran a scale; and SOMEHOW, I pulled that
off. Lucky, lucky me. -- Accordion (ripping off a quick version of The Victor's
March)
Mats -- It was my lucky day. I finessed you for the contract. -- Contract Bridge
Eric -- I am feeling good. I think I earned that Endurance Merit Badge. -- Life
Scout
The Life Impacts team did well. I will take a 5-0 anyday. Perhaps I will get a
contract extension? -- Coach
All -- I am getting together as many Duelmaster players as possible to play in a game
of Hyborian War as a change of pace. We already have 17 players that are interested
and we are trying to get as many as possible involved before I submit the list to
RSI. I am collecting the names and top 3 kingdoms that the players are interested in
and submitting it myself so we can all play in the same game. If you are interested
PM me in the DuelII Forums at Tripwire or email me at azaer123@comcast.net. --

Confession -- Like I'm going to give a Shewish midget any information with which to
blackmail me? Or even to practice "gentle suasion"? Not a chance. But thanks for
the skills. -- Quita Remming
Berthold -- So, you're up for this weather, are you? I figure it's rotten, myself,
but you've been through Noblish, too, and if there's one thing that island teaches,
it's patience with rotten weather. -- Sam Tall
This dwarf says he is Kaor Steelbone, Not From Khalhums. But he was polite about it.
And really, since we have dwarves here under OUR mountain, why import one from
Khalhums? Maybe I'll ask him over to the guildhouse for a convivial hot toddy. --
Karin Lo
I s'pose the Kung-Fu Master was doing his best, but it wasn't good enough--not ONE
skill for me!--and I'm not inviting him over. -- Orrie Pollas
Accordion -- Gods, don't DO that! My hearing may never recover. -- Moris Nahr
Confession -- Perhaps next time you could LOSE THE FIGHT? -- Quita Remming
P.S. Or graduate.
Sam Tall -- I bow in respect to a masterful instructor! -- Berthold
Life Scout -- What amazing endurance you have! My hat's off to you. -- Eric
Cracker Jacks -- For someone so new at this, you are darned good! -- Sanger
Blah. I fought the persistent better. He's not a very dangerous man. -- Sven
Maybe not, but he persists in his betterness. -- Arenamaster Salgried
Contract Bridge -- That was a grand slam? I wouldn't have described it as a slam,
exactly. Effective though. -- Mats
