                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Players old and new!

Some of you may know that at one point last year, RSI tried to pull together an
arena in which role-playing in the personals and in spotlights would be a significant
(and rewarded) feature. Though it didn't work out, the idea remains an appealing
one. I would like to propose that we, the players, sponsor such an effort. No
rules, no prizes, just players getting into the spirit of role-play.
I suggest Telorinthe, arena 83, as a place to try this. Telorinthe is the slow
no-tourney arena, and it seems like a good place for this experiment. There is no
large body of entrenched players with other interests. Although some background work
has been done, there is no great, creaking, edifice of old spotlights to deal with.
Very little in the way of vested interests. Perhaps if all goes well, the idea might
catch on in other arenas.
In keeping with the "no rules" idea, I won't say, "Begins on turn ###!" Just
show up when you feel like it and jump in. We'll keep a seat ready for you.

Jorja and the Middle Way

P.S. And I'll try to have at least a short piece each time. No major adventures,
just "the adventure of living." Bring your friends!

"What IS it with that Confession?" Quita Remming demanded, slamming things
around in the kitchen of the Middle Way guildhouse. "He keeps telling me to spill
milk! Why would I want to spill milk?"
Sam Tall shrugged. "He's weird, but this is not news. I'd expect 'weird' from
someone who spends all his time listening to what people have wrong in their lives."
"It'd probably throw him for a loop if someone told him good stuff for a
change," Moris Nahr suggested. "You reckon that could be a secret weapon?"
The outside door slammed open, framing Karin Lo against a stormy sky. "Everyone
out! The river's rising, and Arenamaster Salgreid has called on all of us to help
man and woman the levees!"
"Shoot! Of course--there's a whole mountain of snow upstream, and it's
beginning to melt." Sam Tall reached for his boots. "Of course we'll do what we
can!"

                             Notes from the arena champ.

I certainly never expected that, Confession. I know I said, or someone said,
that talking about stuff doesn't help. I just didn't expect you to get it so fast.

                                    Karin Lo

                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, TELORINTHE? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Of course, we're all terribly impressed
to see SVEN win a fight and gain 22 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, AHTI beat ERIC and
ERIC lost 5 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with the old, in with
the new, as ACCORDION takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old
Duelmaster. Heh, heh. I'm not in a very good mood today, but why am I telling you
this? You want to know what's new, don't you, TELORINTHE?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. TELORINTHE, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
SUDDENLY, THE VAN the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say.
And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know?
It was OLDIES. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, MATS was this turn's
most challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. I notice CONFESSION
challenging down 43 points to fight ORRIE POLLAS, OLDIES doubtless has some rotten
excuse for such an insult to honor. And sorry to say, CONFESSION defeated ORRIE
POLLAS, leaving a bad feeling with the crowd. I think exploitive snob is the term
I'm looking for.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines
through use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
What does the TELORINTHE arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Glad to see the back of this place-- Snide
Clemens

I could say the same about M. Chardinee, but I'm feeling more charitable than you
